  1. narkpsy... i like that, very fitting... i got a bit tired of the whole thing. Last time i time i smoked anything and tried to listen to v/a - Humants I got tachycardia and felt physically ill afterwards... it could have been something i ate... i'm getting old... I admit it.
  2. ocelot pointed me his way when he was in finland a couple of years ago. At that point he was mostly pushing out of tracks with the name tuthankamon 5000 (or something like that, i always get the name wrong). Most of those tracks got packed into his debut. I never got around listening to astro on his own, but the collab he did with ocelot and vishnudata is amazing... don't recall the track name.
  3. Funny stuff, some i despise with a passion, some others are like wow... this is kind of funky stuff... I mean even if you are making emotional, or cheese music by who's standards does not matter, but you can still have depth. i mean, Art of trance, was reallllllyyy cheesy, but really deep. isn't electro as genre kind of broad though, some sounds really 8bit, some other is more like house... some can very percussive. people say electro and for some reason, i automatically think "Elegant Universe - Fractal" (drums & roses) I've heard my fair of electro, i hunt down some music they recommended here at times and some is quite good, but this track was the first one that really got me jumping in this genre. Well fractal and Wasteland from vibrasphere. But that's just me though
  4. i play the air guitar, really, really well... especially with astrix. Amazing i have rehersed my timings and my jumps and everything... but i don't have a mix. If anybody has a mix or music... with astrix... and guitars, i wil definately do the air guitar for you. PM me
  5. Delta phase is coincidentally my fav one from that album Chances are you already heard this one, but otherwise give it a go: Link (Tom Middleton) - Arcadian (Artificial Intelligence II - WARP CD 23) http://www.discogs.com/release/1155892

    IDM

Ahh... but therein lies our problem. I don't know how it works for most of you here, but I enjoy some abstract, mildly complex beats, quasi-glitchy, avant-garde... noise... the problem is the right amount. You take it too far on the melodic end and it sounds a bit too sweet for me (kind of like schnauss, which is great, but in small dozes)... take it down the wrong end and all you have is nonsense. IDM (or whatever you want to call it) and especially the good kind, thrives on this union of chaos and order to symbiotically create aestheticism with some degree of originality. In that quest for something pleasant, without forgetting the 'psychedelic' aspect (random, crazy, unusual) sometimes we miss stuff. I.e: rump records, object records, cactus island, and on a more personal level: On An Bast, Funckarma, Karsten Pflum, Casino Versus Japan... Some is just unequivocally sublime: pub, plat, miles tilmann, i'm out right now... p.s: nick, i keep checking out your tips... good stuff.. :clapping:
  7. The only ones that caught my ear here is Nano Buds and squaremeat, the rest i'm not too sure. Oh, ye and the first one...
  8. to write and to read. But i've said that before. I like the idea of shorter stuff. Every now and again i run into something really, really good, but i don't even think twice about sitting down and writing a two page review. I don't have the time for it. I don't really understand what is the problem with permanency and changing impressions. There's an edit button and we're all allowed to change our minds every now and again. Is this permanency problem rooted in musical obsolescence? The idea that something which sounds really good right now, might not in a couple of years? Judgments and tastes change like the technology under which it was created. Just like our machines grow old and inadequate, the music follows course since it is only a reflection of the binary microcosm under which it was conceived. In saying so, I do realize a huge number of people here still think 'old is gold' when it comes to their personal preferences and especially with Goa, but it does not reflect what the market out there is consuming. Is timelessness nothing but fiction in our cyberdelic empire of musical clusters and flouro-stained tribes? Has planned obsolesce sneaked into the fabric of tastes? What happened with talent, the memories it evoked and creativity? I know that is not the case for the majority of people in this forum. i'm just rambling here sorry, I had a beer and got philosophical all of a sudden.
  9. It's difficult to recommend stuff in that sense because -personally- vibrasphere is difficult to top or equal. But basically, I would give Son Kite a go, the old stuff might appeal to you, Tegma as well, old and new... but mostly the newer stuff. Compilations, maybe Battle Royal (ZMA), stuff like metronome, heliotrope. I'm basically trying to mention music that made keep falling in love with psy trance when i was discovering vibrasphere back in the day and those names come up . I really liked Beat bizzare at that point as well, but is not what fits the vibrasphere profile. Basically what i would recommend doing, is just exploring the labels of artists you like. In Vibrasphere's case Digital Structures has a very high standard and has released truly noteworthy releases through the years: - Jaia - fiction - the compilation Chillosophy 2-3 (this is very much in tune with vibrasphere downbeat material) can't think of much else right now... something slightly newer might be... Flowjob but i frankly found it shallow and uninteresting (taste is taste). Keep exploring and checking out compilations with names you know... who knows what you might find... rare gems and strange stuff that suddenly klicks and changes your musical inclinations all of a sudden. -
  10. For something slightly different but heavily psychedelic try: Our Sleepless Forest - Debut http://www.discogs.com/release/1244093 Start with "Aircastles" That's what i would call the full immersion experience in ambient. 've been falling asleep to this gem nearly every night this week.
  11. who is doing the mastering for this again? There's really good material here either way, Lost in luxor is a bit of monster just like #6
  12. I don't know if it's well known, but Matt also has a chillout project with Andreas Lingbrand, mixing number of interesting influences under the name Yggdrasil. Most of what is on their myspace page does not do justice to the music they make. Really quality stuff all the way. I'm not sure if there are future plans to release something, but I hope so, cause the music deserves to be out there. Interestingly enough, i did an interview with these two characters a year ago now, probably, which never saw the light of day, and i'm going on memory here, but i recall Matt mentioning he was a huge Posford fan. So that might explain a thing or two. Anyway, for the record I have not heard this, but I hope to soon, when i have something this entry will be edited with valid content
  13. Why would you not use this precious time to sleep instead? I love music but nothing comes between me and my pillow time.
  14. When we arranged to release vapour online last year, i honestly thought we could get around it. Since we were running the shop the names where there and the few promos downloaded from the store by friends from the artists were presumably respectable. Then one day some guy from russia bought the wav version and a few weeks later one of those groups had picked it and it was on the web. Never found out if it was him or some Japanese guy that paid with a fake credit card (if it was fake i have no idea why the payment processor accepted the request and then booted it, beats me) but got download it anyway. I had actually tried to release it with one of those groups and someone was helping me with that. I want to release lower bitrate, they wouldn't have it... all they promised was a good promo sheet with contact info, etc, etc... At that point sales where not all that bright so, i said fuck it. Let's see if this scene does work for something in the promotion department. Then another group picked it, shipped it... and... from that day on it was clear that the measure did not really help on sales. I think what basilisk is saying makes a lot of sense. If you have a strong on line marketing going on, with a number of reputable on line shops to buy the release, you have a web site, or some websites talking about it, linking to some shops, that's the best you can do on this day and age. Unless you know shady people in russia :drama:
  15. seriusly, finally eh? it's been a good while. I honestly thought with all the waiting we'd have some collaborations between them though, sadly no strings attached. Still good to see what they do as a whole.
  16. Dejavu project - Zen (live version) ? always loved those vocals by the end, too bad the thing as whole was so damn monotonous.
  17. That sounds exciting basilisk! Best of of luck. From my own experience the only wisdom i can shed is to make sure you get a proper server to handle large download requests. You know how that worked the last time On real world talk, it's a hard bargain from cd distributors, there isn't much trust out there, while they are all saying "we preffer to have our own digital service" they do nothing. Some websites have made advances like cytopia getting the trust of labels, but nothing noteworthy that really grabs a big market sector. If you can get one big distributor to trust you, then the doors should start coming down. In the meantime, there's a hard fight ahead to prove physical distributors digital is the way to go and its ok for them to open their entire catalogue. Not mention Costs will still remain prohibitively high because the distro wanst their piece of cake in the digital world too... so the costs will be about the the same. At that point buying flac for wave for the same price of a CD or even higher makes no sense. From that perspective, if you want to get the digital market you have to straight to the labels, the serious ones that float on their own. A big share of the current labels rely on their distro to cover miscellaneous costs like mastering which are later deducted from the earnings and thus some level of loyalty. Off course, as soon as you start going around the distro's and they notice, they will do everything within their power to shut you down. On the good side, the effort might be the spark needed to show everyone digital can work. A good start would be a coalition or union of labels dedicated to releasing stuff online, but you need something that sparks their interest. All this stuff is near taboo when you start taking about going against the people that really make money in this business... the distros. Some other labels are so fiercely independent, they prefer to do everything themselves and will not accept any help or services. I have probably writen this same shpiel a couple of times now, sorry, this will be the last time, i promise. p,s: One thing i find curious, a lot of people here have no problem with the piracy distributors, the source so to speak, and apparently even they seem bothered when their wares is spread via p2p, yet why don't they do something to stop it? if it bothers them so much, how come they don't just quit? wouldn't that stop the problem? i mean, just go into any p2p, now imagine there's no mycel, etc, etc, etc files ripped by them, what are you left with? that's my point.

    Reviews

yeah, kind of s shame a number of us stopped the whole review process . After that, I've honestly started to loose a little faith in them as they can be so subjective, so like Anoebis pointed out, comparing what you are reviewing to other material is very useful. Not only that, but i also think the shorter a review is the better. I don't know you, but after i stopped writing long-intricate reviews, i stopped reading them as well. I can't seem to hold my concentration long enough to read through the whole thing. It's also basically how humans look at web pages, we scan things, we jump around, we go back and forward, but is very hard to keep the concentration on something for longer than 15-30 seconds. I do realize sometimes with compilations and the such it's hard not mentioning each track. Sometimes it's equally hard to write down 3 and 4 four lines for some random play. So i don't know just my two cents in the water regarding this matter. I could put this into practice do it myself, and sometimes i do run into one or two albums i just feel like shouting about and writing a review, but i never get around it.
  19. nice info. thanks! will definitely keep an ear out for that new project, it sounds... very diverse...
  20. I've searched far and wide for a similar sound, alas without much success. I think the main difference between SA and the rest of contemporary electronic dub is the feelings it evokes. It's minimal but filled with emotion. Dub with a soul. Legion of Green Men has been evolving towards a similar sound, bit more awake. Now i've honestly just heard the stuff they release with Interchill, I don't really know what else is out there, but "letters never send" from v/a - Bliminal evokes a similar feeling for me, or at least just a similar smile and a nod of approval. Guess that's not much to go with. Coincidentally, just last week i was at work during my lunch hour with about an hour to kill, so i laid back in a small couch we have in the office and dozed off to Carrier Track. I wasn't tired per se, but i felt a little nap could not hurt. My co-worker woke up me up when "Dust" was just finishing. I was completely gone. That was the nicest nap i've had at work in a while. Good times.
  21. my best this year included little psy: matter of fact the list includes no psy emancipator - soon it will be cold enough Jens buchert - Intersphere unkle ho - circus maximus Genji Siraisi - Censorsh!t Pt. 1: Bad Monkey v/a - chronicles of the deep the rest i'm not sure it was 2007.
  22. I love it, i'm still running through the first play but i can already tell it's gonna get some milage on these speakers... Thanks a bunch for sharing, it's got soundsignature all over, but i notice things improving and maturing even more. You are not on your way, you are there congrats
  23. and how long have you been biting yourself? back on topic... i had a malay girlfriend and one x-mas she went back home and she went to a huge rave in some mountain (asking for name here would be useless). Basically she said she saw a Dj girl that play played psy trance on this event. Off course her name escapes me and i was getting her into psy, but god knows what she played... so... it's little information... but I do know there's been at least a few events.
