  1. Because we are avant-gardish listeners looking for new things, otherwise we'd be all gung ho about mozart and bach and that kind of stuff. as for the question at hand, give Syndrone - Salmataxia a go
  2. That is it, i'm getting my shit mastered by ga2pir from now on. i still need to actually make something, but when that happens i'm calling you buddy!
  3. can i debate that? and not cause i want to be anal about it, but simply because i've heard a fair share of him last year, in fact it's on my best 2008 non-psy fav. music thread. He definately has a spanish name, so he has that going on for him, and his music (the upbeat one) is at times funky, but that really comes with the territory, or the genre if you will. I think what makes him special is hearing the combination old-school, romantic sci fi ambiance (almost like the 50 - 60's modernism splashed all over) with great rhythms and working beats. I don't know, i keep finding his music very intriguing and emotional (he has some lovely ambient tracks) without resorting to the usual cheese.
  4. Few standouts I'm only gonna mention that pop out. I munched everything i could find by Pablo Bolivar, i love his subtle atmospheric take on things. This year it was: Pablo Bolivar - Sci Fi Winter Tales Pablo Bolivar - Gold Series Vol. 1 ( i didn't get around to checking out vol. 2) in that same vein i also discovered Arthur Deep - Atmosphere EP besides that, a few noteworthy: Subsonic Park - Inner City Codes (solid dubby, techy chillout) The Third Man - Clarion Hall last but not least: Carl Craig & Moritz von Oswald - ReComposed - New Mixes By Ricardo Villalobos & Carl Craig .I never thought i'd end up getting something by Deutsche Grammophon, hehe.. but was worth it.
  5. Happy new year i`m 20 feet away from the sea having drunken naps and getting sun burned. Hope this year this place turns a little less gestapo and more psy
  6. hehe, i think it's kind of funny. As if it wasn't already hard enough to sell psy digital music, they are selling the free stuff? if they have sold a couple of copies it's probably too much. I'd go ahead and send them an email, thanking them for initiative and informing them you are expecting your mandatory percentage of every sale. just to see what they say As for commercial music being sold without consent is bit more serious...
  7. You can't contradict yourself in the same thread Mephisto... least of all in the post afterwards. it's an unwritten psynews rule. You can however contradict yourself in the same post, but you must explain why, and the exact hour of the edit must be provided. Going back to the topic. Rock bitch mafia is either in or out, please make decision.
  8. You really should, they're whole idea of creating music always moving forward, never stopping in a comfort zone, is really respectable. Personally, i consider their earlier work a bit more accessible and just plain better. Incunabula and Tri Repetae and the Garbage ep are must-stops in this journey. If you enjoy that side of the coin, there is also Gescom, which is also weird as it is. Perhaps a bit too much at times for me, but you might get a kick out of it.
  9. no i had it bookmarked, but it went down so erased the link. anyway, do tell when is ready to roll... i hate getting dislocated eyes on wednesday.
  10. hmm... does anybody remember the address nice one reger
  11. Not sure if people remember which one i'm talking about, it was the one demonizing super-star dj's? it was great... but i can't find it... help? cheers. damn it, i just found it... seconds away from opening this thread... must be one of those murphy's laws... here's the link if you have no idea what i'm talking and are still interested. http://farmer-glitch.blogspot.com/2005/11/aha-aha.html
  12. this is a slightly unrelated comment, but still has something to with it and maybe is just ignorance talking, but i'd like to still throw up there, ok? let's go... For production purposes it is great to have all those hidden frequencies to play with them and make it all sound really... introspective. and then you spend two pineapples and pear on mastering, or even if it's really good, you still have 80% of the population listening to your music on sub-par sound devices that do not reproduce all those wonderful hidden frequencies... so what's the point? You know what i mean? Yes the music is for large speaker set-up's but half the times they are going to have something half decent to play them the way it 'should' be... does this inquiry have a point? does it even work that way? is it just too vague? Cause it has happened to me. There are a few tracks i've had for years that i re-discovered when i upgraded speakers and is not like i was using laptop speakers before or anything, I'm talking about normal mid-level sony's they produce in the millions, which serve their purpose for just about any normal human being listening to music. So i'm just confused how it all works...
  13. i'm not entirely sure Trentemøller was ever milestone in the psy scene, correct me if i'm wrong.
  14. i was loving the designs until i realized there isn't a 'small' size available and in some a 'medium' size is missing as well. It's not my fault i'm a small guy, but it is your loss i'm not spending my money there. People come in different sizes cheers anyway.
  15. a little competition never hurt anybody and the site looks solid, thanks for the find.
  16. let's just face it, when you have a cover that could be a 'screenie out of a RT game', we probably don't have much to work with visually for me it seems like the screenshot of a mid-80's show on the cartoon network... the music sounds a little more promising though, so that's good.
  17. definitely a well produced album, some tracks are quite good, but i can't help disliking a lot of his melodic work. It sounds really childish to me, as if was listening to some sort of enhanced nursery rhyme. The strange thing thing, is this something he picked up, because "volleyed iron" has a lot more depth even if it's a lot more inconsistent. If we could compare it to similar work; for instance at this point i've been hammering "back to basics" from Gimmik a lot, and especially the first tune, "let's play cricket" which has by any standard childish melodies as well with the markings of older video-game productions (think return to the castle of castelvania), but it does not bother me in the least bit. I don't if it's the fractured drill n bass, or simply taste. Eitherway it's good stuff... For more outstanding melodic work this year, "L' eixample" by Near The Parenthesis is another one not to be missed, even if it it's less beat oriented than this one.
  18. Makes sense to me. Think about the percentage of listeners that also produce their own music when we talk about psy, for some reason in this little corner of global culture it is insanely high compared to other musical styles. It is also a great tool to make sure you purchase original, it's not a concept it is promo. Again makes perfect sense, i honestly never got what was the big hype about him, a friend of mine at the time loaned me 'robotic tongue', and it sounded pretty average to me, same thing over and over again. This was back when I actually enjoyed full on quite a bit, mind you. It's been a while so I could be dead wrong but that is the impression i took with me.
  19. Cheer's, i've snuck my neck in those places before. I actually thought a lot before picking up my in-ear phones and i went back and forth between something big of the same price range. I called my dad up that point, we love to talk about those topics, and he would not stop raving about his Westone UM1. So he kind of slanted my thinking in that direction. I still think in ear headphones are equally good or better depending on what you choose, but i can definitely appreciate the appeal of ear-hugging fluff heaven.
  20. Congrats! i't's a different world. There is a downside, suddenly if the mp3 it's not 320 Kbps and it was encoded like 3 years ago, it's really not the same, you become more bitchy with the quality, you realize you can't live unless SRS iWOW is turned on all the time, it all seems to spiral out of control in your wallet. :drama:
  21. I need to get something comfy like that, my hd25 are not very comfortable in the long run and the sound ain't that great either, they are just good battle headphones for the road. I do love my in-ear UE's but they are not that conformable, after wearing for long sessions my earhole will hurt , i need to pamper my ears with something that has it all... maybe for x-mas, we'll see
