  4. Artist: Ion Vader Title: Expansion EP Label: Timewarp Records Date: February, 2015 1. For Deg 2. Ajjna (feat. Root) 3. Trip To Nowhere Ion Vader isn't an artist I've heard much or anything from, but since it was released by the good folks over at Timewarp I thought I'd give it a go. It's a short 3 track EP (Captain Obvious) that has it's roots in several genres. For example, For Deg begins with an uplifting sound and then promptly ventures into darker territory before it rockets into cosmic goa. Ajjna has some tribal chants and is rather uninteresting until near the end when once again, the goa leaks out. The final track Trip To Nowhere is more of the neo-goa style I was expecting. All in all not a bad ep that sounds really clear. Hope he sticks with it as there is some potential here. Timewarp Records Bandcamp

  7. Artist: Psyboriginal Title: Unleashed Label: PsyPneumatix Date: July, 2008 1. Surprize Reaction (feat. Chromatone) 2. Pinche Paola 3. Mind Reader 4. Chicago Style (Feat. Electrypnose) 5. Haul & Oats 6. Direct Flight (Feat. Daheen) 7. Unleashed 8. Out of Ur Mind (Feat. Combinations) 9. Reality Psyboriginal? Hardly. More like Psyboring. Look if you were looking for a Surprize Reaction, you ain't getting it from me. I'm no Mind Reader, but this is run of the mill full-on. And when you say Chicago Style do you mean sending one of his to the morgue? Or deep dish pizza. Cause...I'm on board for that last one. Here's what I can tell you. I'm cranking up the Haul & Oats, catching a Direct Flight to let you know that my disappointment has been Unleashed. You are Out of Ur Mind if you think this is hard hitting night time psytrance. Time for a Reality check. Oh...Pinche Paola...I uh, don't know what the f*ck that is.

  10. 1. Rabbit Hole 2. Insane Monkey 3. Total Disintegration 4. Midsummer Night's Dream 5. Harmony From Chaos 6. Deep Purple Haze 7. The Acid Test 2006 8. Inner Revolution 9. Computer Crash Just when you thought that these guys have started going downhill they released a full collaboration album which is just amazing. It manages to make a great crossblend between the "classic" Space Tribe and Electric Universe sound and full-on. I'll just comment the stand-out tracks. Total Disintegration actually starts with the EXACT same synth sounds as Hallucinogen's LSD... you can already feel that this is gonna be something special. OK, all similarities with LSD stop after the first few seconds, then it goes on like some rather generic full-on, then some oldschoolish acid melodies come in making you wonder if this is gonna cross the oldschool boundaries completly or if it's just a few teasers thrown in. Then around minute 4:00 again some more oldschoolish melodies on top of the full-on progression, then a breakdown - release, again some 303s and then WHAM we are in complete oldschool territory!!! AHHHHH so these guys haven't forgotten their roots after all Harmony From Chaos is another stormer. This one is much more full-on oriented (but in a good way ). It starts with a rolling bassline and Olli Wisdom talking over a vocoder, nothing special till now. But then around min 5:00 it all breaks down, then picks up again with the vocoder and then around 6:00 comes yet another breakdown and then one of the best melodies EVER (yes, that is INCLUDING everything made in the 90s ). This one will definatly be on my playlist for a long time to come Deep Purple Haze is an odd crossblend between rock and full-on, with Ollie Wisdom singing. Well, after Boris Blenn has given us one of THE best trance-rock anthems ever with Meteor I had high hopes with this one... and they have fallen rather short It's not a BAD track but I somehow expected to have more of the Meteor feeling and sadly it just wasn't there Acid Test 2006 is again a bit of a let-down since I was a big fan of the original version. This one just doesn't bring anything new IMO Computer Crash deserves a special mention. It's actually a very cool tune and then all of a sudden around 2:50 there are a lot of skipping sounds and Olli saying "Oh no, the computer's crashed!" and then it's over... nice trick for live performances lol Although the track was so cool I would've liked it if I had the full-version as a bonus or something. I must also say that I'm a bit dissapointed cause there wasn't any remix of The Alkaloid Experiment, I would've loved to hear a new version of that one. Conclusion OK, like most Space Tribe and Electric Universe you have some really killer tracks and some fillers but the killer tracks are sooo great that they definatly make buying this album worthwhile. 8,5/10
  11. Artist: Dark Nebula Title: Dreamfuel Label: Digital Psionics Date: March, 2006 1. Unwanted Emotion 2. Mary Poppin Pills 3. My Domain 4. Dances With Werewolves (feat. Scatterbrain) 5. Our Priority 6. Kraftworld 7. No Religion 8. Pheromone 415 9. Clinically Insane (feat. Fractal Glider) 10. Round & Round (Live Mix) (feat. Kluster) "Your prescription for unwanted emotions!" Ok, let's see....I'm feeling, how am I feeling... *looks to sky for answer* like I no longer want this CD. "I let my guitar speak for me!" Oooh...that's unfortunate because your guitar annoys me. As a matter of fact your leads which sound like guitars annoy me. "There's nothing left for you but a slow death as your lungs fill with toxic gasses!" Seriously? I'm only up to the third track. Your marketing skills leave a lot to be desired. And I liked this track with its heavy acid bent. That is until the cheering crowd showed up. "Your safety is our number one priority." That's funny because I thought it was to make fast bass lines. Throw in some samples and acid here and there and you have a Dark Nebula Album. There are moments where I like it, but more where it just drags on uninterestingly. "My music is a pillar on which whole worlds have been built." Now that is just cocky. But I like the creepy sample. Surprise surprise another fast bass line and sample. This one had a little more groove, but it's missing something. Electric Universe and Space Tribe do the same things, but I suppose they do it better. Can't quite put my finger on it. It just misses the mark. Well, that and the "singing" on No Religion. Not fantastic. "You can't run from your past....you'll end up running in circles." Need I say more? I've got it. The melodies aren't as competent and easy to grab hold of, but I also think he tries to be psychedelic for psychedelic's sake. Instead of making a bomb track it just feels like a bunch of unfinished phrases run together. A lot of sounds and weirdness thrown in one pot and then just shoved in the neighbors faces. With the cover I wanted it to be a night time tour de force, but wishing for it doesn't make it so. It's not bad, but I judge music on how much I would like to hear it again. I don't need to hear this again.
  12. I had a bit of time on the weekend to attempt a remix of the "astral terror dark trip" Its about halfway done with the sound design and processing. 15. Artist: Various Title: Planetary Nation 001 Label: Planet B.E.N. Records Date: December, 2004 1. Rinkadink Vs. Gataka - Lost Laundry 2. D-Tek - Liquid Interface 3. Talamasca feat. Schyzotrop - Action 4. Electric Universe - Murphy's Law 5. Xerox & Illumination - Tribal Metal 6. Nomad - Fantasy 7. Tim Schuldt - Stand & Drift 8. Planet B.E.N. - Your Own Reality 9. Organic Noise - Factor X 10. X-Dream - Fall Out (Remix) Ah f*ck, look what you did...you upset the gay. What in the holy f*ck is going on with that atrocious album cover? Someone decide to raid granny's attic? A dime store Indian, a Pikachu looking motherf*cker with a bullhorn, a monkey with his fingers in his ears. Hell that'll tell you all you need to know about this travesty. Remember when Planet B.E.N. made good music? Seems like an eternity ago. Anyway this music is top notch, grade A, sh*t. I'm sorry if you're offended, I don't have time to hold your hand and pat you on the back and say everything will be all right. Cause it won't as long as you keep producing excrement of this magnitude. Hell I think you have to go back two decades to find a track from Talamasca that doesn't make me wanna stick sharp pencils in my ears. The samples in Action followed by the guitar solo felt like I got a paper cut on my dick and stuck it in a jug of lemon juice. But hey let's keep the guitar train rolling with Tribal Metal. Ugh...I wanna puke. Anyone think that Nomad's Fantasy was to annoy anyone who heard this track? Cause he did. I honestly cannot comprehend how you could manage to assemble so much sh*tty guitar trance in one place. And f*ck those who say it was made 11 years ago, I'm sure there was good music made 11 years ago. This was a conscious decision to lower the bar for some quick cash. You would think that a compilation comprised of artists that made some of the most psychedelic tracks in history could not reach this master level of suckitude. Surprise! I think this album just gave my computer herpes. See that? Brian just pissed all over your legacy. I'm not linking to this garbage. F*ck that.
  16. Artist: Various Title: The Science of Music Vol. 1 Label: Global Army Music Date: April, 2013 1. Abomination - Yabcoder (Abomination vs Shameless Remix) 2. Zinx - Knowledge 3. Brainwash & Klacid - Space Technology 4. Sick Addiction - Into Magic 5. Rubix Qube - Continuity Vol. 1? You mean there's more of this dreck? Oy. Lest you think this is some ground breaking sh*t let me assure you that the only science this contains is gotta pay my rent throw some sh*t at the wall oh look these guys will release it junk science. Before those sh*tty movies ruined the term twilight, this would've fallen under that category. Only it doesn't. It's not dark and it is more akin to the glow-stick noise trance masquerading as proper night time music. The leads are annoying and the stops and starts are plentiful. I'm most surprised at the presence of Mr. Qube's track. He's usually much better than this. At least it was just a digital release and didn't further pollute mother nature with an actual CD. I'm sure it's on Beatport, but their new site takes too f*cking long. Ain't nobody got time fo' dat!
  17. Goa Gone Postal A Ballet of microdots doing jewish dances underwater. A bit more kinky and mischievous than the other tracks on this album. Sets you on a plane and warps your horrizon. Working on it had that odd feeling as if goa smelled just a bit too much catnip and is now running around the house smashing into things. Sega should make this game, hey someone did make Goat Simulator, so why the heck! This one has korg electribes all over. The Korg ER1 is doing drums and crazy percs and the Korg EM-mkii is doing lots of silly things here, for examplethe goa style odd leads. The scope modular as usuall is contributing crazy stuff. There are also some random AM radio transmissions recorded and sequenced into the track. have fun!
  18. Lotus Feet Records, recently established as an independent record label in Pristina, Kosovo, is proud to present its debut compilation, Lotus Rising. Their aim is to stir up the psytrance scene while delivering quality underground music to listeners worldwide by offering space for talented producers to present material favourable to the label’s concept: groovy night-time psychedelia with powerful bass lines and positive vibrating sounds. In their words, “We believe that contributing creatively and sharing our vision through sound is the only way of awakening and interconnecting our souls within this planet and beyond!” While working on this first compilation the label had the pleasure of working with DJ Fedro AKA S.E.T.I. who unfortunately passed away in this time. As he was a great inspiration for the release of this compilation it is now dedicated to him. R.I.P. Mastered by Monno @ Bimmelim Soundlabs. Artwork by Urtina Hoxha & Edvin Susuri. 20. Artist: Trinodia Title: Untuned Visions Label: Goa Records Date: April, 2015 1. Untuned Visions 2. Everything Allright 3. 4th Dimension 4. Intelligent 5. Snapshot 6. Escape 7. Change 8. Unseen 9. Voxel9 - Errors and Trials Trinodia is Daniel Eldström and he has established himself as one of the pillars of the current crop of goa trance artists with albums such as Astral Clouds, Stargazing, and Human History. But before all those great albums he was just like you, trying to find his way and discover his sound. Maybe not you. Cubase is hard, if it was easy everyone would be using it. This digital only release has been remastered and was his second album originally released back in 2004, pretty much the height of the full-on craze. And make no mistake it's full-on as Daniel will proudly tell you. But like most of his compositions the level of detail is off the charts. It's big on atmosphere and oftentimes groove. If the full-on producers today could make music like he made ELEVEN f*cking years ago maybe it wouldn't get rightly sh*t on like it does. This is good stuff with some really thumping beats and you might be able to detect a sliver of the the goa direction his music would eventually take. That being said as fresh and enduring as I think it is, it's full-on so it will never get top marks from a lot of people and that's understandable. Full-on is the red headed stepchild of psytrance. Daddy doesn't love you. I can't say this is essential, but if you're interested in Trinodia's great production of music other than goa trance then this should interest you. Psyshop
  21. Artist: Various Title: Mind Your Own Isness Label: Phantasm Records Date: June, 2006 1. Alien Project - Mover Over 2. Eskimo Vs. John Phantasm - They're In Trouble Now 3. Sirius Isness - Sanctified (Cycle Sphere Remix) 4. Absolum - Surprises Upset People 5. Sirius Isness Vs. Earthling - Call of the Wind 6. Bliss Vs. Painkiller - Out of Phaze 7. CPU - U-spin 8. XSI - Alchemik Machine 9. Sirius Isness - Breaking The Matrix (Talamasca Remix) I had a whole review written for this, but I lost my phone so I'll give you the jist of it. Yep...that about says it. Look nobody is more horrified at the fact that I resorted to a Marky Mark gif more than I, but if it walks like a duck... As a label how can you put your name to this blatant full-on cash grab? It's disgustingly boring full-on nonsense. Stops, starts, tired samples that were f*cking sleepy a decade ago. I don't think the saddest parts are the tracks themselves although there's sufficient material there to cry yourself to sleep. Nope I believe it's the wasted potential exhibited by these artists. All of them have done better than this and at this point it seems they're just out for rent money. The lone bright spot would have to be Absolum's Surprises Upset People with it's raw power and the grooveability of Earthling's track. Man I wish I would've minded my own isness. Psyshop

Mr. Peculiar - Funny Mushrooms Hmmmm...I seem to be mired in mid 2000's full on when it comes to reviewing. Well can you blame me? There is a lot of it. This particular subset of psytrance exploded with so many cut and paste releases, each one being a carbon copy of the next. Fragile Planet Records was gone almost as soon as it appeared which is a shame because they seemed to be on the right track. This compilation is an example of night time psy music that pulsates. It's dark, melodic and powerful with a great atmospheric feeling. I know cause I was rocking this at 4 this morning. Wasn't at a party or anything like that. Just woke up and needed some music. As with all compilations there are some weaker moments, but the majority is solid. Unlike Ketuh Records who went out like a wet noodle, this label's final output made some big boy noise. Shift and Killer Buds in particular really own on this album with Mr. Peculiar also putting in a strong showing. If you're a night time full-on lover this one should already be in your kit. Recommended. Psyshop
  23. Artist: Various Title: Psychic Imprint Label: Ketuh Records Date: November, 2006 1. Gappeq - Rite Machine 2. Lagun - Soul Cube 3. Boogieman - Space Dementia 4. Spiral - Leptospiralosis 5. Whicked Hayo - Hayo 6. Silent Horror - Victim (Final) 7. Khopat - Droid Sequence 8. A.P.E. - Power of the Quantom 9. Trold - Karma The last CD from an underrated label. Releases included Sonic Pantomime, Alittle Lunacy, and Interfiber Skunk from Killer Buds. Ah what could've been. Their specialty was dark psytrance without any of the cliche's of darkpsy. Thumping beats, melodies...think of a tanner TImecode. With their final opus they keep it dark. Very dark. Unfortunately for a guy like me who likes melodies and depth this wasn't their finest work. Lots of metallic sounds and thumping basses, but not a lot else. Five tracks in and I'm still looking for anything to grab hold of. Power of the Quantom and Karma have some redeeming qualities and felt like proper night time psytrance. Perhaps they finally succumbed to what plagued most darkpsy around 2006? Whatever the reason they really went out with a whimper. I cannot recommend this CD unless you're in the business of throwing money down the toilet. And if that's the case I have three toilets and they are all very hungry. Here...you can place your money right here. Why am I wearing a bugs bunny costume? Duh, it's Thursday. Psyshop Beatspace

The other Side of the Scale ALTERNATIVE CONTROL feat. DJ AQUAPIPE 6. Alcohol 220V VS INTERACTIVE 7. Restricted Files INNER ACTION 8. Ambush ELEC3 9. After Hours ESKIMO First off I love the artwork. Very beautiful that has me finding new stuff in it the longer I stare at it. Second I know what you're gonna say. So much music and you choose to review something right smack dab in the middle of the full on tsunami? Yes, because I'm trying to clean out the hard drive. But news flash this ain't going. After you get through the disappointing Z-machine and Eskimo effort, this compilation takes a ride on an all black bullet train. Eerie atmosphere and twilight textures rule as movie samples tumble down causing me to smile in recognition. There is good layering here with punchy bass lines and rhythmic leads. A few buildups but nothing like the crap that comes out today. Very enjoyable and holds up well some 8 years later. I have it in sh*tty quality and a part of me wants to buy it again. But another part of me says if I do, it should come with a punch in the face. GoaStore Mdk
