  1. You know the adage " the whole being greater than the sum of its parts " doesn't apply more fittingly to any other thing than a good electronic music set . imo atleast ! so lets get everybody's favorite set down here for our listening pleasures .. There have been really good ones like Anoebis' 1994 mix which i have been listening to a lot , i discovered some tunes that i had not heard before ( and more to come i guess! ). What i really like about good sets is that it brings more life to individual tracks than if you hear them in isolation. dunno if you all feel the same way and even albums that play out like a DJ set are much more enjoyable . I still havent heard a grinding set that has had me swaying from the word go till the end .. Lets hear them !

    "V/A - Trancefusion Chapter 1"

Artist: Various Title: Trancefusion Chapter 1 Label: BMSS Records Date: February, 2017 1. Me and My Misunderstood Something - Electrypnose 2. Inner Call - Aumni 3. The Voice of the Universe (Lupin Remix) - The Key 4. Makaranga - Ascent 5. In My Head - Shivatree 6. Three Panthers - Mystic 7. Nothing But the Truth - Hujaboy 8. Quantum Flashes - Reversed Logic 9. Glowsticks - Psilocybian 10. Beyond That Door - Dark Nebula, Datacult Smell dat? That smells like malpractice mixed with a little negligence. What we've got here is a bit of a mess. I mean the beginning of the comp was interesting with an Electrypnose funky electro house effort (please forgive my insatiable need to classify) sounding a lot like Talpa, but then the energy is wasted with a snoozer of a nothing track by Aumna. The compiler must've felt things were going sideways because the resident was kicked out of the ER and the attendings took over. The patient shows some life with the next several tracks with Makaranga showing Ascent at the top of his game. Beautifully dark psy-gressive track that oozes quality. Unfortunately while the doc's were in the hallway hi-fiving and making plans on which female interns to run a Devil's Triangle with nobody was watching the patient. Galloping basslines were not treated and predictable buildups (Three Panthers) spiked and they couldn't stop the bleeding. The chief of surgery (Hujaboy) was brought in to work a miracle, but with just a few days until retirement let's just say that this wasn't his strongest effort. So the patient is seizing, attendings don't know what to do, and the chief of surgery has thrown in the towel. Nothing left but take selfies over the dead body and post on twitter with the hashtag #Neverfoget. Sure Dr. Logic and Dr. Psilo tried their best, but all their work was tepid at best. They called the TOD for this comp and made dinner plans. Dr. Nebula turn out the light when you leave. And he did. Psyshop

    Skizologic - Stimulation

Artist: Skizologic Title: Stimulation Label: Future Music Records Date: September, 2018 1. Dr. Strange 2. Japanic Panic 3. Rhinos 4. Hypersphere 5. Project 2501 (feat. Coexist) 6. Voyager 7. Whiplash (feat. Filteria) 8. Electro Machine 9. Let's Trip Meh. Maor Hasbani has earned instabuy status from me with releases like Robotized so when I dug deep into this I was slightly disappointed. I still bought it, but let me tell you it falls short of his first album. It's mostly psytrance with powerful kicks (he always had those) weird noises, and some goa flavor sprinkled in. When he uses his goa superpower it is hard to resist, but there's just not enough of that here for me to fully recommend this. It also doesn't help that there are no standout tracks to be found. Mind you this is my interpretation and nowhere did it say on the album that he was going to expressly make a goa album. The sound quality is excellent as always and the tracks are decent, but in trying to be either a great psytrance or goa effort it falls short on both accounts. Psyshop

    Hydraglyph - Euphonics

Artist: Hydraglyph Title: Euphonics Label: Nexus Media Date: June, 2007 1. Red Tide 2. Nowhere Near (Shady Mix) 3. Somebody Else 4. Piece By Piece 5. Nightmare 6. Evenflow 7. Astraction 8. Venus 9. Tetris Bender 10. Ultrasound (Rmx) It's raining/sleeting/snowing right now and for some reason I decided to say a few words about this release. We are all familiar with the quality of Nexus Media at the time who were on the forefront of powerful, sinister South African psytrance. This was the second release from Andrew Morgan & Mark Ackermann. Aside from the Condition Black remix I found their debut Kinetic to be a steaming bowl of meh. So....low bar everyone. Now normally Ormion and I are simpatico when it comes to the blessing that is this type of psytrance. He didn't care for it, but I liked its punishing, dark vibe, It was bruising, mechanical, and came at you with a sense of foreboding that still sounds pretty good today. Parts sound dirty...like discarded, corroded metal and I like that apocalyptic atmosphere. Now let's be clear it is not without its flaws. Some empty stretches and questionable sound choices and samples can make the eyes roll a bit. South African Full-on is still full-on. And certainly some projects have done it waaay better. But 12 years old...things tend to get a little stale after that amount of time and I felt this still had some freshness. Far from a classic, but I also don't think it is remotely close to a flop. 6. My brother is doing a full Ironman Triathlon tomorrow, so I figured I'd match his effort (/s) with a 5 1/2 hour mix. When I was conceptualizing this mix, I was heavily inspired by Simon Posford (of Shpongle) after he came to my city a few years ago with an army of psychedelic weapons and blitzkrieged the dance floor for 4 hours. His ability to weave a variety of styles in and out of each other was simply astonishing - like he was a swiss-army knife of psytrance. Channeling Posford, I have selected a kalaeidoscopic spectrum of flavors spanning several genres, styles, and tempos. I wanted to challenge the listener to interpret a variety of shifts in ideas and emotion - as subjects of mad techno experiments, psytrance, and colorful breaks. If you have followed my catalog over the years, you might notice that I double dipped on some of my favorite tunes in the breaks section Flegma - Sundarbans [TesseracTstudio] FLIX - Atonalities in Life [Spiral Trax] Dj Tomsten - Extra deep repaer [Tombstone] Lampé - Crystal Cave [Digital Diamonds] Stoertebeker - Robinson Jr. [Digital Diamonds] A:B:S - Litmus (3ska Remix) [Kiosek] Daäna - Little Animals (Trilingo Remix) [Digital Diamonds] Enertia-sound - Broken Robot [Mistique] Durs - Caravan [Uxmal] Human Element - Evolving [Iboga] Acröfen - Nausea (Trilingo Remix) [Digital Diamonds] Interactive Noise - Rewire (Durs Remix) [Spin Twist] Karlos Rush - Lisergik Lab [Speedsound] Jon Bovi - Wad Morld [Madabeats] Gunslinger - Mystic [Open Flame] Meat Katie & Dylan Rhymes - Roll Player (Hedflux Remix) [Lowering The Tone] Sphera - Micro Poetry [Dacru] Human Element - No Rush [Iono] DJ Noise - North Star (Sunday Evening Edit) [Voice Noise] Mervit - 360 Degrees [Power House] Etherica - Deep Feelings [Sting] Futura Music - Bealtaine [Furthur Progressions] Bionik Vokolder - Shiva Tribe [Speedsound] John 00 Fleming - We Close Doors (One Million Toys Remix) [JOOF] 4000 KROMOS - Chemical Punks [Speedsound] ManMadeMan - Do You Believe in UFOs? The first part quite conveniently wraps the techno/psytrance bit up at exactly the 3 hour mark, and then the last 2.5 hours (part 2) are breaks. https://soundcloud.com/ziptnf/sets/relative-eternity Image source: boxtail Download the whole thing here: Ziptnf - Relative Eternity (5:33:14) 731MB ~320kbps

    Jacob - Enjoy the Ride

Artist: Jacob Title: Enjoy The Ride Label: Spin Twist Records Date: 10/12/18 Tracklist:- 01 Where all Begins 02 Sound City (ft. 4i20) 03 Durs - Serendipity (Jacob remix) 04 Fake Idols (ft. Mandragora) 05 Binomial (ft. Harmonyc) 06 Energy Around You (ft. Juiced) 07 Wobbly Girl 08 Synergy (ft. Basscannon) 09 Music is 10 We Come in Piece (ft. Mandragora) 11 Fly Away (ft. Juiced) 12 Enjoy The Ride You really don't need to look much further than Spin twist Records if you're after fun clubby proggy tunes that will get a crowd jumping. Their last release I listened to was Therapy by Fabio which was perfect for a dark club with friends. Now Jacob has come out with a perfect album for a hot summer day, cider and friends. While not particularly psychedelic or trippy and pretty much non stop prog, Enjoy The Ride is a bunch of fun from start to finish. I listened to it while walking through Swedish forests in the sun today and I can say that it fit the mood perfectly. Punchy kick drums, rolling bass lines, lots of catchy vocals and melodies. In fact, if like me your only source of vocal music is a selection of tracks by Sade and Dido but at the same time you still enjoy your words then this album will hit the spot. Instead of following the typical 4 to the floor prog pattern Jacob keeps his music interesting by chopping his beats up while retaining all the rhythm. Most tracks start with cool dubby or breakbeat sections that spiral off into prog wonderland and most end in ecstasy. While some tracks feel like they are going to be typical pieces I can assure you that Jacob doesn't let anything get boring, typical or dry. Favourites: 4, 7, 9 and 12. Tracks 12 is a really really good downtempo piece. https://www.beatport.com/release/enjoy-the-ride/2396790

    K.O.B. - Identity Mash

Artist: K.O.B. Title: Identity Mash Label: Suntrip Records Date: May, 2017 1. Check In 2. Folie a Deux 3. Klecks 4. Grandiose Thoughts (Original Version) 5. Inculcating Ideas (Filteria Mix) 6. Identity Mash 7. Cousin It (2017 Mix) 8. Check Out feat. BOTB "I'm two people in one!" It's important to know who you are. It's the very foundation on which you build your character and what you go on to accomplish in life. K.O.B. is Jannis Tzikas and the alternate personality if you will of his more widely known project Filteria. While the latter is defined by melodies and is pure goa music through and through the former is a mash of styles relying heavily on the psychedelic aspect. This album is more concerned with driving rhythms and allowing the music to evolve. Sometimes building, sometimes deconstructing. It's robotic (not meant in a negative way), futuristic, and oftentimes the sound choices can sound metallic and harsh. But there is no mistaking who is behind this project as his goa soul shines through quite clearly. And sometimes angrily (which I like). The title and artwork accurately describe what is located within, a combination of forest and goa all tucked neatly under an umbrella of psychedelic psytrance. While not my favorite release from the vaunted Suntrip Records it continues to prove that they are not all sunshine and rainbows and haven't forgotten that psytrance indeed needs to remain psychedelic. 14. Artist: Aion Title: Scepter Of The Machine Construct Label: None yet I don't think, Maybe Kali Earth soon? Release: September 3, 2018 Tracklist: - 1. Scepter of Ra 2. The Construct 3. Insane Cyborg Aion is Norwegian trance producer who has gifted us with a 3 track ep with a range of different influences and styles. No matter what style is being used, you will hear notes of melody, with full body, low acidity, low tannins, rich buttery synths, with a spicy finish. Scepter of Ra - A proper slow intro has you unsure what this track is gonna be. But the beat kicks in eventually and the track really does develop beyond your expectations. Where'd you hear those eastern melodies in Norway Aion? Oh sure the internet. This track is a complete banger that I more than like. Without a doubt my favourite. The Construct - I guess we know what we are in for now so the dramatic intros can disappear. We have now entered blissful psychedelic territory and I don't want to leave. Insane Cyborg - You know from the second this track starts that it's gonna be some heavy full-on. It's fun to be right. I don't normally find much to say about full-on but after getting to like Aion's style in the last couple of tracks I am more than well lubed for this banger. The beat tempo changes, melody, synths pretty much the whole shebang is pleasant. Not once does the track get corny or predictable. I don't know what they feed you there in Norway. Wait yes I do, it's the Surströmming isn't it? If tinned fish that needs to be opened outdoors is what it takes to make great music then I'm ok with that. Unlike your fermented salted Herring I can take this ep with me on an international flight. Apparently Kali Earth Records is gonna pick this release up but it's available for NYP as the moment in Aions band camp page. https://aion.bandcamp.com/releases

    Psychowave - Chronicles Ep

Artist: Psychowave Title: Chronicles ep Label: Spacedock Records Date: July 27, 2018 1. Elephants In Pocitos 2. Fight Like A Woman 3. Life Waves Psychowave has produced two tracks which have found their way into my favourite list. His ear for melody and production technique is a treat and sends me into euphoria every time I listen. The new ep comes complete with some pretty artwork done by Natan himself and 3 tracks containing plenty of funk. Elephants In Pocitos - Not as many elephant sounds as I was expecting but still a well produced song thats got a fat baseline and trip atmospheres abound. Fight Like A Woman - Yea declare a never ending battle that you can escape from at any moment but subject your enemy to at any moment at your discretion. Yea that’ll do it. Great trippy song with good development and huge drums pounding away. Life Waves - A quick lesson on waves and a great collection of melodies intertwined with one another. My favourite of the three but just by a hair. This aint no Sunshine Reborn, but a less melodic more psychedelic trippier blast into happy land. Well done to SpaceDock for their continued support of a great artist, who has managed to avoid the norm of the Brazilian psytrance scene and produce Goa blasters. The title of the album suggests more eps to come in the same vein, I'm looking forward to those insta-buys. https://spacedockrecords.bandcamp.com/album/sddg014-psychowave-chronicles-ep

    ZEE - Id.Entity

Artist: Zebbler Encanti Experience Title: Id.Entity Label: Gravitas Reecordings Release: June 5th, 2018 1. Id.Entity 2. ZEE & Woulg - Flesh Out 3. ZEE & Of The Trees - Let Me In 4. Trance Humanism 5. ZEE & Prismatic - Caverns 6. Journey To The Centre Of The Artichoke 7. ZEE & Hlafred - Immanent Flow 8. Id.Entity (Mr. Bill Remix) 9. Exit Stance From their website: Zebbler Encanti Experience (aka “ZEE”) is an audio/visual collaboration between video artist Zebbler and electronic music producer Encanti, based out of Boston, USA and Valencia, Spain. Remember the first time you got lost listening to Psytrance? Finding yourself in a state of complete bewilderment, unable to predict what was going to happen next, looking around for someone to share your confusion with, desperately trying to figure out if it would be ok to pick your laundry up a few days late? Or do they give it away after 2 days? No it couldn't be two days. They can't hold onto it forever though can they? whats the time limit then? And will they tell me off when I arrive or is it normal? whats normal though? Wait a minute is this the same DJ? Well thats pretty much what you get with duo ZEE. It’s a beautiful thing to find an album as completely messed up, crazy and unique as what ZEE produces. Whether you like the style or not their ability to dance between 4 different genres in one song so seamlessly is a worthy of a mention. From the entire Gravitas crew ZEE gets me moving in the most directions at once. The album cover accurately portrays their style, one look and you know you're in for some psychedelic madness. Psychedelic madness that will help you push 104 when you’re in a 100 zone, any track from a ZEE album will get you there. While the last albums I listened to from them Inner G and Freakquency were all about the drop with elements of trap and trance throughout most songs, here we get an even amount of glitch, bass, trance and trap, all heavily psychedelic of course. If your not a fan of the style I wouldn’t recommend listening the entire way through. But I’m sure the style or craziness of a few songs here might make you say ‘huh, what the heck just happened? Lets do that again'. Zebbler Encanti Experience has a way of making sure that you have no idea what's going to happen next and almost always pulls it off. Favourite tracks 4, 6, 9. https://music.gravitasrecordings.com/album/id-entity

    Moonbird - The Indescribable

Artist: Moonbird Title: The Indescribable Label: Self-Released Date: August, 2013 01 - Gates Of Haraom (75 BPM) 02 - (An)other Dimension (145 BPM) 03 - Punishment System (148 BPM) 04 - Jazz With Wartuba (145 BPM) 05 - The Small Sorcerer (136 BPM) 06 - How To Style The Drive (138 BPM) 07 - Sound Gamma Radiation (154 BPM) 08 - Violet Noise For 7 Days (140 BPM) 09 - Circle Of Stones (152 BPM) 10 - We Are Light (Full Mix) (148 BPM) I sincerely hope that the psychedelic community is visiting Ektoplazm on a regular basis. It has been an invaluable resource for great music that would otherwise have been relegated to the unheard bits and bytes of the internet. They truly have something for everyone regardless of taste. Vytautas Paukstelis is from Lithuania and at this time this is his only release. Is it darkpsy? Forest? Psy or progressive? A little bit of all actually. The details (effects that amplify the atmosphere and where I think his strength lay) stand out on the downtempo intro and dark tracks like (An)other Dimension thrusting the listener right into the ancient forest. Jazz With Wartuba is creepy with liquid hallucinations and the dark vibe is palpable. I love the break in How To Style the Drive...involving. Sound Gamma Radiation is part darkpsy, part...Suomi? I dunno, but I enjoyed it. If I had a criticism it would be that some of the details and atmosphere get lost in the overwhelming beat and bass. It's accessible for the casual listener (even if it's a bit all over the place) and while far from my favorite album I was glad I gave it a listen. Some good ideas in here. Free at Ektoplazm
