  1. I'm not too fond of new year's eve myself so I'm gonna keep it quiet with my gf and my parents. Cozy cozy. Every time I went to party on new year's eve it turned out shitty and a disappointment anyhow so I don't even bother anymore. I guess it's all about managing your expectations but well, I've found out that the cozy new year's eve actually suits me the most!
  2. My favorites for 2011: Artifact 303 - Back to Space VA - Erta Ale VA - Mind Rewind Antares - Exodus This is it for now, have to check out some more releases though. Very curious about the new Solar Fields and CBL albums and Porta Mento.
  3. The first time I heard psy was at a new year's eve get-together (end of 2007) of a couple of friends. We were quite baked when one of them put on cities of the future by infected mushroom. I immediately knew that was it. Then dropped for the first time a few weeks after that and got my initial interest confirmed. Psy is the shit! I then went on a journey through the genre's of psytrance, at first it was on and off because it took me quite a while to find what I enjoyed most. My other friends at the time listened pretty much only to dark, but there was something lacking to me. Then I found the old school (Transdimensional by Dimension 5) sound and that has been my love until now. I also tried out some ultimae, mainly Solar Fields at first, but fell in love with psybient too. Before all this I was more of a passive music-listener. The music I listened was the music my friends gave me or what I had heard somewhere else and liked. With psy however, I got the motivation to really dig into it myself. Has been enormously rewarding I must say...
  4. I got my gf a boxset about bach, with a book about him with images and essays and 6 cd's. Looks pretty fancy, even if I say it myself I got my mother the greatest hits cd of pink floyd, my father a book about photographing with your iphone, my sister a book and my sister's bf the "kick-ass" graphic novel. I got myself 2 pioneer cdj 100-s and the new solar fields and cbl albums as well as distant system's spiral empire Then I got a behringer 2 channel mixer and a new shaver from my parents, an eau de toilette from my gf (it's called dB ), a book-cheque from my sister and her bf, a book from my aunt and some money from my grand-parents ^^ Very happy (let the dj'ing begin!!!!)
  5. "Unsurprisingly, therefore, within EDM, the names of innumerable subgenres generally refer to fairly specific musical features, and can therefore be considered to be “actual” genres. While stylistic variations are present in styles like drum and bass (“liquid”, “techstep”, “jump-up”), these are in most cases fairly subtle. In psytrance, similar observations can be made; “dark”, “morning” and “suomisaundi” are all essentially variations of “full-on”. The names “dark” and “morning” might imply a binary opposition, but in actual fact, there is much in common between them (i.e., sixteenth-note bass lines, bass/kick drum sounds, unexpected stops/quirky sounds, etc.)." (from The Local scenes and Global culture of Psytrance, edited by Graham St John, 2010, page 116-117) Edit: Woops, wasn;t actually going to post this, must've posted it by accident.
  6. Downloading as we speak! Curious about this one, tracklist looks goowd I'll comment more when I finished listening! (Goat Ranch mixes are instant download no matter what anyway)
  7. Awesome study music ^^ Nice to see that you used Flaksystem by Amos, it's one of my favorites in the genre! Very well mixed, great set.
  8. The uptempo from Solar Fields is very nice as well: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=peDk47HJ8hg
  9. Did you honestly think antares' dreaming universe is creepy? Interesting view on it... To me it's a beautiful floating track (I don't know if you know, but that track was released this year, so it's pretty new ) Try some stuff from Bubble btw. http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=BBNek_6FOgI&feature=related Granted, it has guitars, but it also has a very laid-back vibe. This isn't really my cup of tea but I think you might enjoy it... Also, which is very much my cup of tea: Vibrasphere!
  10. Good question... First one that comes to mind is RA. Well he at least kept his high level of sophistication...
  11. You should definitely check out the album cosmic experience by electric universe! Seems to fit your taste pretty well. I'll try to think up some more though.
  12. A new suntrip compilation and the new crossing mind album!
  13. holy damn, that tracklist is too sweet. Insta-buy for me... 3 new artifact303 tracks alone make this worth the purchase!
  14. Very nice forest comp indeed! My favourites are Dohm's and Gioll's tracks. However, that last track, the first time I heard it, I laughed my ass off! Awesome use of that song imho, for the humor a the very least ^^
  15. As of late my top three tracks are Deflo - Tio Mate Artifact 303 - Magnetic Fields Prana - Taiyo (Chakra Remix) But that's over a period of half a year... I try not to listen to tracks too much at a time, out of the same fear rotwang has... I rarely listen to one specific track too, I rather put on an album. So in my case, it would be better to look at what's my most played album atm, and that is... Dimension 5 - Second Phaze. But also VA - Resonance Mood and Artifact 303 - Back to Space.
  16. Damn you're right! Can't believe I forgot to include it in my list... My favourite from Total Eclipse by far!
  17. I've got the same problem as Abasio really. I quite often link to old and new psy on my facebook profile but the one's that like it or comment on it are my friends who listen to psy anyway, or in some really rare cases open minded people who enjoy a track or two but just don't want to "dive" into the genre. On the other hand, if I let people who do not know the music listen to some tracks the most recurrent answer is that they don't "get" it and hence don't want to listen to it. Or, it drives them crazy (well I always tell them that that's the same thing it does to me, or what it should do, but even that they don't seem to get. "Why would you listen to something that shakes you out of your ordinary rut?" is what a lot of people seem to think.). My point being, psytrance will never appeal to the whole world, because it is more or less an acquired taste, and is closely correlated to a way of thinking and a lifestyle that is too radically different from most people's. I'm not saying you shouldn't promote it, I would love for everyone to experience the things I feel when listening to a good track or dancing to one at a party. Also: "Getting media attention is, for an underground scene, the kiss of death."
  18. I completely understand what you are trying to say. I've had the same feelings, but couldn't really point out why I was a bit disappointed with the album... I don't think it's bad however, it just doesn't arrest my attention that much, probably for the exact same reasons as Jon's. Aside from that, I found it refreshing to see a goa artist make a whole down-midtempo album, since it deosn't happen too much...
  19. Filteria - Galactic Rays Filteria - Total Planetary Being Sky Technology - Ancient Race MFG - Why Deedrah - Alien Dick Pleiadians - Electra Psykovsky - Lastbus Madrus Savage Scream - X Mash Hard Megalopsy - Devenir Cosmos Kindzadza - 0923141030 Fungus Funk - F people Shift - Cerebral Cortex Off the top of my head. Also some of my favourite tracks ever!
