indeed, what you said above sounds quite interesting never heard of Mantrix before ... but I checked it out And in the past you did really trigger the playing of every sound live on stage - no pre-mastered layers? Respect ... I think there are very few artists who have ever done that. I understand though that it greatly reduces the possibilities and limits creativity when you have to trigger everything manually and thus you switched to the pre-mastered layers which can be controlled one by one. Leaves you with more possibilities and better sound quality ... and that's a good thing. It's exactly the way I would want it ... the artist still performing the tracks live by arranging the layers on stage and modifying them here and there or adding melodies or whatever ... I wouldn't ask for anything more. And you still got the live drums and guitar ... that sounds like it's gonna be a splendid live experience when I come to see you performing one day! You know, in many cases when there's a live set announced here and the project is just one person then you just got a personal appearance from the artist, most sounds coming from a pre-mastered CD or laptop set and one or two layers played live on a synth, a few knobs twisted and that is it. Or they screw the playing of the two layers and focus on arranging (which is mostly just pretentiousness, because it's pre-arranged ... but whatever). But that is it. When you're just one person you are pretty limited in this way anyway. When it's two persons it's mostly that one arranges and the other one plays the layers. And when it's three or more persons then you can do even more - one does percussion layer, one does guitar layer and so on... I wonder how people like Atmos do their live sets? Do they like I stated it with one person acts? Or are they just DJing? Anybody has seen Atmos?

well, you must have liked it, there is no other reason anybody here on Psynews would go on such a gig except that he likes Eskimo, because everyone on here knows how bad he is! just kidding Though I'd be interested what devil rode you to go to an ESKIMO gig???

Because of the recent discussions I'm interested which artists are actually still making a real live set? Or at least as live as it can get? Or not even THAT live, but you know, finding the balance between pre-mastering and live performing, delivering a partly mastered, but still fresh and interesting set with at least some playing or improvising done live? Who still delivers LIVE sets that make you smile? I'd say artists like Son Kite (they're doing one track "as live as it can get", one track from CD, one track live and so on ... good approach, fresh sound and enough playing around (one word: violin) - that's what I call nice), Etnoscope (live drums, live synth ... I don't know their liveset politics, but what they delivered was undoubtly pretty live, even having one or two tinywiny errors at one point or two - but those are not bad, they make me smile, because of these little errors I know they are doing this thing live and not from CDs!), S.U.N. Project (the drums were live, some synths, the guitar ... enough elements to keep it interesting I think) are doing pretty much live. Unsure I'm about Tegma, Mittelstandskinder Ohne Strom and Prisoners Of The Sun ... it all looked pretty live what I saw (not just hiding behind laptop) and it were good sets, but I am not fully sure, don't know their liveset politics ... although I definitely gotta say it was good even if it was not much live. Also Quantum State or Grapes Of Wrath didn't just hide behind their lappy ... but still, I know too little to say anything definite.

oh yes, mostly the "live set" of nowadays is just the artist making an appearance and the pressing of some knobs... sad but then again it's necessary to pre-master sets or parts of them in advance in the studio or wherever because first the sounds will be more polished and well arranged (and not in the stress (and drunken-/stonedness) of a party) and second it's never possible for one or two persons alone to do EVERYTHING live simultaneously. the best artists are those who pre-master partly, but still keep enough room for live playing around and stuff, making the whole thing a good, playful, fresh experience...

Best (I prefer the word "outstanding", as I can't name a single best one): Koxbox / Saiko-Pod (they (well, it was just Frank ... Ian was ill, but you still have to say "they" because DJ Acan was jumping in for some parts so that the audience can still experience a set that is somewhat live, you know) delivered a 5 hour live/DJ set and at the same time it was my first psy gig with an international liveact too ... absolutely great experience), S.U.N. Project (that whole night was perfect, not just them, but the whole night ... unforgettable for me), Etnoscope, ... These were the most outstanding ones ... but in fact all international liveacts that I saw until now never really sucked real bad ... even if the set was not so good, the overall vibe was never negative - EXCEPT at the following gig: Logic Bomb ... unfortunately, unfortunately ... Logic Bomb are actually quite good, I know, but that one was not good. It was only one of them two guys - the other one was ill - and nobody did help him (like Acan did with Frank, I told above). So it was basically just DJ set, you know ... and the set didn't really catch me ... and in addition to that the high entry fee and the not-so-nice people made me somewhat more and more pissed off until I really got bored with the music and ranty with all the everything ... this was the ONLY gig where I left the psy floor before four and waited in the chill until the first metro goes. I really hated this evening. Unfortunately, unfortunately ... could have stayed at home and would have been better off with nerve and money

Progressive trance house from Balance 008 compil..
RTP replied to Manuser's topic in General Psytrance
genious post, Charlie AS for the tune ... nice, but I think it's already too housy for me. I am actually a fan of psy-house/club crossovers, but in this one there's just no psy anymore. It lacks something ... it's too monotonous, you know. No matter where I skip to, it's always this beat - no break, no change ... somewhat monotonous. Background synths nice though. -
oh I always thought that stuff is so rare?

I'm dead serious!

What if I hate both the hippies and the chavs? Go on, hang me.

Eskimo will fix it he will come with his killer fat bass and together with Skazi and Infected Mushroom it will be a nice party that does make you happy, doesn't it?

AHAAA - now I finally get why people always refer to the Astral album as Trust In Trance 3! So this isn't even the real goldie, the two Trust In Trance compilations released before are even more sought after... Am I right?

horrific videos The Shpongle one is cool though ... except Raja maybe

You know what? That's an incredible backup idea if my house burns down! Great! I always was fearing about my CD collection in such a case! Now I have a solution!!! Thankies I'd copy all of them BTW. Or wait ... not all ... probably not all metal ones ... but certainly psy, everything psy!

Psytrance or Goa music can not or only very rarely make me cry. I listen to this stuff to be HAPPY, not to cry I generally don't listen to music to cry actually. But it's not that I don't cry to music at all ... it's just ... psytrance can for me actaully not achieve these deep emotions. Mike Oldfield - Celtic Rain made me cry...

erm ... link broken?

Oh my... Nooo, not Spiral Trax please ... it was my favourite label for quality scandinavian music Shit... Rest In Peace. *sheds a tear*

yeah, indeed cool I wouldn't have thought either that I'd find somebody here who'd love that remix of the "Is Anybody Out There" track as much as I do
-
aye ... this is a damn, damn good song... I really loved it back then. An epic trance masterpiece. Nowadays I dislike it though, I hate this trance stuff, even if I try to be tolerant and all that, I can't like it very much anymore as hard as I try ... but still, I'd say this was one of the best trance tracks ever for me! I also never found anything quite like it ... tried the Magikal Remake of Willow, but that wasn't as good as this one. Well ... what stuff did I love back then ... hmmm ... some that I remember (not the ultra best ones maybe, but certainly in the top ones - for me at least): DJ Tiesto - Urban Train (you can hang me for that, yeah, but I loved the song, can't do anything about it ... hate Tiesto though ) System F vs Armin Van Buuren - Exhale Sonorous - Protonic (Ronski Speed Mix) RMB - Deep Down Below (Humate Remix) Shane - C'Est Muzique (Armin Van Buuren Remix) Marc Et Claude - I Need Your Lovin' (Darkmoon Remix) Autumn - Lava (Megamind Mix) Mauro Picotto - Rosso O Nero Plastic Boy - Twixt E-Wok - Go Back Talla 2XLC vs Taucher - Together 99 and of course - how could I forget: Talla 2XLC - Is Anybody Out There (DJ Taucher Remix) this one is even good until now

You know ... after the second listen I must say the part from 5:07 to 5:32 in that song I find quite good but the rest is crap ... 25 seconds good 7 minutes 29 seconds (=449 seconds) bad that's 5,2742616033755274261603375527426 percent good 5 points out of 100 -> result: utter crap

It's a good idea. But also I'm of the opinion that it's difficult to reach the right organizers... You know what I somewhat think? I think you'll get a load of responses like "we are good organizers, we always pay our artists, we never do bad and what a dork are you to actually think that we would not pay artists etc..." and the organizers who really got some shit on their stick will shut up and never reply a word to you Still, it's worth the try
