  1. I've been learning to use my DAW. Here's my very incomplete early attempt at a Goa Trance track, aiming for a slightly tribal feel and lowish tempo (143 bpm at the moment). I'd love any comments and suggestions, even to tell me it's dreadful. The drums need some work I think. The ones at the start are supposed to be 808 style tom toms, but I think the kick maybe interferes with them a bit and they get sort of clicky so I may change them. I like my melody but I'm not totally sure if it matches up that well with the percussion and bass in terms of the timing. If I don't end up abandoning the whole thing I'll probably make some acid lines next and maybe another layer or two, pads and other samples.

  7. Avaris - “The Forgotten Language” Axios Records proudly presents “The Forgotten Language”, a powerful downtempo psychedelic album of Avaris, a side project of one of the most established psychedelic trance artists today, Archaic. The central idea behind this album is a return to ancient myth that tells us about essential unity of all creatures: human beings, animals, trees and other non-human entities... According to this myth, all living beings could communicate with each other and as such celebrate the unified field of existence and meaning. This is the sacred language that allows a shaman to communicate with animal spirits and other spiritual entities. As a contemporary echo Avaris’ album offers us a translation of this language into a unique musical masterpiece that defines a true shamanic psychedelic experience, bringing us back to the roots and the unity with all beings and most importantly, with each other. 1. 10. Artist: Various Title: Portal of Perceptions Label: Celestial Dragon Records Date: May, 2005 1. Ishq - Aphrodite 2. Makyo - Jasmine 3. Adham Shaikh - Ohm (Transfix Mix) 4. Aes Dana - Haze (Celestial Mix) 5. Androcell - Caribbeyond 6. Cell - Twisted Sun 7. Androcell - Fungus Garden (Acoustic Mix) 8. H.U.V.A. Network - Rain Geometries (Solar Fields Remix) 9. Ishq - El Morya What an rich and satisfying compilation. Mixed by Vincent Villuis himself it's 12 years old and still hitting all the right notes. All the projects are established in the downtempo genre and they are doing some heavy lifting. Lots of tribal percussion here with ethereal chants, breakbeats, and trance inducing dreams. Special mention goes to the sublime Ohm (Transfix Mix) which is everything you could want in a dreamy, mystical downtempo piece. I don't believe this sub label of Sonic Dragon Records is around any longer which is a shame because it certainly delivered the goods! Beatspace Digital
  11. Artist: Maiia Title: Shining Dragon Label: Mystic Sound Records Date: March, 2017 1. Tale About the Shining Dragon 2. Princess From the North 3. Natural Energy (Album Mix) 4. Maiia303 - Electric Particles (Maiia GoaChill Remix) 5. Microcosmos (Instrumental Mix) 6. Fusion Age (Album Mix) 7. Eastern Saloon 8. Strawberry Lassy (Album Mix) 9. The Great Bear (Album Mix) 10. Kurbeats - Phony Phony (Maiia Remix) Yes, very interesting. This is Alla Vagner who should be familiar to all who frequent this forum based on her 2014 release Sky In Diamonds on Ovnimoon Records. It was a pleasant surprise and a breath of fresh air to hear the organic sound melded with goa trance. Sure it 's been done before, but man did she do it well. She gets right after it with the goa tinged breakbeat track Tale About the Shining Dragon and Natural Energy. I believe that she is the female equivalent to Hardfloor. Funky breakbeats layered with that saucy 303 riding shotgun. It's truly body moving music with eerie tones layered over top. Mysterious at times, but always engaging with plenty of tribal affects. Check out Strawberry Lassy...lots of Shponglese going on there. She keeps the tracks relatively short for maximum freshness. While not as eye opening as Diamonds, it nonetheless doesn't fail to impress. Mystic Sound Records Bandcamp
  12. Alright this is just a thread to share an artist that I can't find a mention of on the site. I stumbled across Merkaba from a youtube recommendation. 13. Hey all, I've been producing Industrial music for the last 10 or so years and have released on some known labels in that genre so I like to think that I am ok at music, but I think the standards are lower in that genre. Anyway, long story short I have been going back to my "roots" in psy/goa and that's all I want to write these days. My first love is goa, but I can't ever stick to writing one style so my stuff is a mix of the things I like from various genres which include Goa, Prog, Darkpsy, Tribal, and Industrial. I have no idea if this stuff fits into a particular style or even sounds good to psy people. Thematically these songs draw from ancient egyptian mythology and alchemy. Any feedback is welcome!! https://soundcloud.com/wormsoftheearth/tebat-neteru-new-psy-stuff-preview
  14. Artist: Blue Lunar Monkey Title: Here & Now Label: Tycho Records Date: April, 2011 1. Anahatha 2. Oneness 3. Guerreros Arcoirirs (feat. Deva Sofia, Rupesh Anand) 4. Two Vines (Ayahuasca) 5. We are connected (feat. Wendy Stock) 6. Metta 7. You're not alone (feat. Wendy Stock) 8. Dissolution 9. Here and Now (Ethernal rmx) "You see we all know what reality is, but we cannot describe it." Reality is two kids that want your attention 24-7. A Jeep that works when it wants to and a dryer that doesn't. Reality is having me and my daughter puke our guts out and then next night having my wife and son take their turn. When the dryer doesn't work and kids are puking things get real. I could use a little unreality. Now here's one that probably flew under a lot of people's radar. Daniel Gradilla from Mexico has released one of the most relaxing albums I've heard in a while. This is chock full of soft melodies and gentle percussion. Dubby bass and real world instruments are all over this thing while samples speak of the mind and reality. This is sit on the beach and watch the tide roll in type music. It's slow pace and head nodding goodness will give you that Calgon take me away feeling. Most of the tracks are fairly long allowing plenty of new leads and melodies to take shape. The light strum of a guitar and sounds of nature are extremely calming. Recommended. 15. Genesis, by Astral Waves (28th of April, 2017) https://astralwaves.bandcamp.com/album/genesis Newsletter: http://ymlp.com/ziXnFK https://open.spotify.com/album/7q3OkooNl5PK3UoesKL3bi https://www.beatport.com/release/genesis/2010923 http://www.junodownload.com/products/astral-waves-genesis/3407783-02/ https://geo.itunes.apple.com/us/album/genesis/id1225422028 PRESS RELEASE: Get ready for take off with the new visionary album entitled “Genesis”, by Astral Waves! Astral Waves is DJ Zen (aka Gabriel D.) based in Quebec, Canada. Originally hailing from France, he’s one of the pioneers of the Canadian psytrance scene. DJ Zen created Altar Records in 2009; as label chief he’s been running and managing things ever since. On top of providing DJ and live sets on demand, he also does most of the artwork and audio mastering for Altar Records. His production as Astral Waves has gathered high praise in the psychill scene, along with the numerous compilations he’s compiled and curated for Altar Records (and other diverse labels). His latest offering gives testimony to his emerging status as a very promising producer. This is a deep, tribal psychill journey made over the last three years with the following goals in mind: no repetition whatsoever of any sounds or samples, and maximum inspiration taken from nature, indigenous people, tribal drum rhythms and chants from all over the world. If you’re looking for a soundtrack to activate your inner Warrior of Light, you are in for a treat! And while this is definitely a journey that takes you into the realm of psychedelic chill (with its deep, trippy vibe), it also comes with a nice serving of dub influences, some progressive chill, and strong tribal beats at key points for good measure —hence the title “Genesis”. In fact, it’s a wonderfully diverse album that plays out very much like a ‘best of Astral Waves’ compilation would. And for good reason: this definitely is his best work to date, and his most creative. Each and every sound was carefully chosen and meticulously crafted, providing a unique feeling to the compositions as well as a musical trip to the continents of Asia, Africa, America, and Europe. The album flows seamlessly even if each ‘wave’ or story has a different flavour. It seems that Astral Wave’s intention with Genesis here is to prove that psychill music is more than capable of tapping into our deepest feelings and states of mind. Since the dawn of mankind, music has been crafted to express feelings, sooth fears, express boundless joy and (most of all) get the tribe dancing, moving and shaking. So it was in the beginning, so it is now…Let the journey begin… ............ Track 1) “The Believer”: Genesis starts ever so gently with a long, evolving and deep psychill-dub track featuring the amazing vocals of French/Quebec singer Patrick Bernard —a renowned artist in the local new age and yoga scene. Experience spirit through sound with this thirteen minute odyssey (80 bpm). Track 2) “Ashura II”: offers up a Middle-Eastern sounding track with dark overtones, gnarly bass lines, simple percussion and trippy tribal chants. Suryademah previously released this on Altar Records, and for this album it’s been completely reworked (90bpm). Track 3) “Rain of Shooting Stars II”: the most psychedelic song on the album…using only three samples taken from the well known Alwoods track "Rain Of Shooting Stars”, this is night time music at its finest (100 bpm). Night trippers, prepare to trance. Track 4) "La Danse du Feu" (Dance of Fire)”: the fourth stop on our voyage takes us into the primal forests of indigenous North America, for a raw, tribal journey with this (105 bpm) energetic composition. Samples of nature, spoken Native words, and the powerful kick give this tune its earthy, crunchy feel, while the sophisticated arrangement keeps things interesting. If you’re a fan of ‘A Tribe Called Red’ but looking for something a bit trippier, this song is pure medicine for your ears. Electric guitar by Raph LVD. Track 5) "La Danse de l'Eau" (Water Dance)”: a gorgeous, evolving track with delightful flute lines from AEolia Project, recorded at Altar Records studios during the summer of 2016 expressly for this piece. In addition to grooving tribal percussion, the song also has an amazing climax that takes us on a sunny, positive journey to the heart of mother Africa (72 / 144 bpm). Strong vibes and guaranteed sunshine for all tribal dancers. Track 6) “Optimistic II”: for this one, Astral Waves collaborated with Mobitex (aka Eyal Markovich) from Israel —a country that knows a thing or two about psychedelic music. While managing to keep a very musical feel, this track is a deep dive into modern dub-trance electronica (115 bpm). Track 7) “Inflation Eternelle II”: here we have an Astral Waves version of a joint creation made with top producer Astropilot, and originally published on the "Fall" compilation (released in 2015). Soaring melody lines and poignant key changes take this track to the next level. Clocking in at 112 bpm, get ready for an epic and beautiful excursion into sound, unfolding for your dancing pleasure. Track 8) “Les Liens du Sang (Profondita remix)”: a stunning remix (110 bpm) taken from the last album by Astral Waves (“Magnetique”, published in 2015). With its gorgeous Goa style bass lines, dubbed out arpeggios, and emotive build ups, this track is a pure delight to bring to completion this one-of-a-kind album… ............ In conclusion, Genesis takes you on a voyage through the dawn of time, to the emerging of tribal trance music and spiritual consciousness in various cultures, and ultimately, to mankind's reaching to the stars. It’s a journey you’ll want to take again and again, surfing the Astral Waves created by Canada’s very own DJ Zen! http://astralwaves.bandcamp.com/music http://www.facebook.com/AstralWaves http://www.facebook.com/AltarRecords http://www.facebook.com/ZenAltarRec Astral Waves biography: http://www.bit.ly/2omzwNW More albums by ASTRAL WAVES: http://www.altar.bandcamp.com/album/magique http://www.altar.bandcamp.com/album/mystique http://www.altar.bandcamp.com/album/magnetique http://www.altar.bandcamp.com/album/magnetique-24bits http://www.altar.bandcamp.com/album/yoga-temple-24bits Artwork by Sean Kyle Allum http://www.Elohprojects.com credits released April 28, 2017
  16. Artist: Various Title: Salutation To The Planets Label: Altar Records Date: June, 2013 Salutation to the Planets remixed 8 times. Seriously. Ok. What do you do when you make a weak track that is uber repetitive? Sure that's the honorable thing, but how about just delete it? Or...and hear me out...invite a bunch of label mates over and see if they can clean up your mess. Suduaya is a French artist who has produced a bunch of quality work, but this track isn't close to his best. It was in that mid tempo range and ended up being annoying and very repetitive as I mentioned. That being said, it's the perfect opportunity to take something mediocre and totally transform it into a beautiful butterfly. I rant about this all the damn time. And with this digital release you get 8 cracks at it. Pretty good odds right? Talk about a lazy effort. Technically all the artists adhere to the definition of a remix as some things were different. And truth be told all of the tracks were superior to the original. The By the Rain remix added a dark and evil glitchiness that was greatly appreciated. The Landswitcher Remix had a Shponglesque quality to it. So what's my gripe? While I liked every track but the original they weren't that different that listening to this was tiresome. Take all the remixes and sprinkle them over a few compilations. Easier to digest. So the tracks are good, but as an album I'm afraid it fails. Opportunity missed.
  17. Artist: Sky Technology Title: Spirituality Label: Timewarp Records Date: October, 2016 1. There is Enough Room For Everyone 2. Dancing Elves 3. Spirituality 4. Cold Ies 5. Somewhere In Travel 6. Enlightenment 7. Hypnotised 8. Trance Asian Express 9. Shamanic Dream 10. Words In Collision So the lord of chaotic goa made...a downtempo album? I'm listening. Dmitriy Kolosovskiy from Kiev is a guy that has taken goa to places that may make some feel uncomfortable yet refreshed at the same time. Like when you decide to wear your wife's panties for the first time. And realize this is who you were meant to be. "Dude, you told your wife you wouldn't leave the house. Just sayin' she's gonna freak." And much like his uptempo style it might not be what you'll expect. Well, maybe you would. He recently released a small EP of slower tempo music with his Free Spirit EP. But let me tell you this is not your father's Ultimae albums. First you're not going to be napping to this. It may be downtempo, but nobody told the instruments that. Second, it's not a pure goa album although there are touches to be found. Dude, so what the f*ck is it? Interesting as hell that's what it is. As I mentioned it's a downtempo album that seems fast, sometimes with frenzied melodies. Almost as if he wanted to make lower tempo music, but he couldn't help himself and some of the chaos got out. The tribal elements are well done and there are plenty of layers to dig through. He's experimenting here, pushing the sound and structure of his tracks, more than casually flirting with techno. It's a chill album that takes the listener on a journey and perhaps shatters any preconceived notions. I will say because it's in that grey zone it isn't the easiest album to digest and for that reason it isn't on the top of my playlist. Psyshop Beatspace
  18. Artist: Shantifax Title: Delete Automation Label: SarnarSchourt Records Date: December, 2011 01 - Formatio Reticularis (122 BPM) 02 - Hushushush (85 BPM) 03 - One Thing (95 BPM) 04 - Ancient Fields (feat. Irrsinn) (118 BPM) 05 - Desert Trip (feat. Tommy Mirror) (120 BPM) 06 - Aquarius (138 BPM) 07 - Grau N (137 BPM) 08 - Out Is In (90 BPM) Although I wasn't personally a fan of his second album, his debut speaks to me. It's very creative, floating amongst genres like a butterfly. So much so that it is difficult to properly pin down just where it belongs in the electronic music spectrum. Which I'm sure is just the way he wants it. Tracks may begin as a downtempo excursion, but then promptly jump into a more uptempo jaunt, only to return to a slower feel. The percussion really grabs with tablas and changing rhythms. Very imaginative where no track sounds the same as they evolve. There are a lot of twists and turns yet it doesn't sound like disjointed musical phrases thrown together in a patchwork fashion. Just when you think you've wrapped your head around where he's going, BAM...he switches course. He even goes a little dark with Ancient Fields. Lots of didn't see that coming moments. Recommended for those that want something a little different. Free At Ektoplazm
  19. Artist: Pineal Title: Cauda Pavonis Label: Blue Hour Sounds Date: December, 2012 1. Squaring the Circle 2. Cauda Pavonis 3. Pantalika 4. Stregatto 5. Nostoc 6. Zeta Landscape 7. Prime Numbers 8. Gravity Waves 9. Yonisphere 10. Induction 11. Moonbase Alpha This reminds me a lot of the Kaaya Project sound with its tablas and worldly vibe. You'll hear dubby basses melded with guitar painting a dreamy naturescape. Pineal is Domenico Canzoniero from *spoiler alert* Italy and his debut is a combination of real world instruments as well as some dissonant sounds which give the tracks an irregular feel. Certainly is interesting. Sometimes it plods slowly along (Stregatto) or it gets a little busy (Zeta Landscape). The whole thing is a little odd and can be difficult to fully embrace. There isn't an absence of melodies as much as there is a collection of sounds. Soundwise it's great and crystal clear thanks to your boy Aes Dana who did the mastering. Not for me, but if you're in the mood for something different give it a go! Psyshop

    Hakkah - Shaman

    1. The Call -07:56- 2. Shyvaya -06:52- 3. Incantation -09:02- 4. Tribes of Libalayera -09:40- 5. Meditation -06:32- Shaman looks like to be the most recent release of Hakkah, a project transmitting from the forests of Bordeux and lying hidden in the underground of psytrance since a few years. Pure goa trance with old school progressive and tribal feeling is the content of this extended maxi ep (or mini LP). The music is very evocative and well-produced, mostly midtempo yet powerful. If i can describe this with few words, it's chilling, deep, driving, tribal, colourfull & lightful in a sober manner. Listening to these wonderfull cuts makes the time disappear. If i can draw lines that would be for sure with the old school sound of X-Dream, and hints of Laughing Buddha, Moksha, Medicine Drum. One of the best releases of the last years and i wonder if it has gone unoticed or underrated. Unfortunately, this is only a web release and it deserves to be physically pressed for sure. Totally recommended. This was available through the Ektoplazm platform few months ago, but for some reason not anymore. --> Bandcamp
