  1. Rita Raga - Flowing Circle Altar Records - ARDEP73 The Polish multi-instrumentalist Rita Raga is my favorite psychill artist (well, actually favorite after RA if you consider RA psychill artists rather than artists that sometimes make psychill). This new (last year ) EP combines blissful ambience with harder and more psychedelic moments. 1. Rita Raga feat. I.M.D. - Green Meadow 05:42 2 Rita Raga - Sea Of Fullness (Cabeiri Remix) 07:38 3. Mina & Rita Raga - Zywa Woda 10:50 4. Rita Raga & Fyre Ô - Wide Blue Sky 06:24 5. Rita Raga - White Blossom (Outro) 03:49 1. Green Meadow Dreamy vocals and a trippy and funky guitar plucking sound over some lush pads make for a seriously chilled out and ambient feeling piece of psychill. 6.5/10 2. The Sea of Fullness The mood starts off slightly darker and slightly more psychedelic here, a sharp pitch bending synth twangs into the foreground and a light sort of glitchy beat plays along with Rita's enchanting vocals. Some nice chord progressions and a bassy kick take over the last part of the track. Nice uplifting gated synths at the end are reminiscent of some of the best moments on her fantastic Mystic Melodies album. 7/10 3. Zywa Woda A more tribal beat here and a more eastern feel to some of the vocals. Lovely bass accompanied by haunting whispering sounds. The production quality sounds great to me. This is my favorite track so far. At the half way mark we get a really nice kick coming in and we're into harder psychill which I found really enjoyable. 9/10 4. Wide Blue Sky With a blissfully mellow opening, the track quickly picks up with the beat and introduces some very, very trippy patterns of sound. A hypnotic folky guitar melody takes over the foreground. This is great. I get a strong vibe of Irish folk music. We get a weird higher pitched voice-like synth picking up the melody and some quiet acidic sounds. If I had to give this a genre, it would be psyfolk. I'm reminded a bit of Posford's work with Celtic Cross and yeah some Shpongle but this is easily as good or possibly even better. It's so addictive I was really disappointed when the track ended. I would love it to go on for 15 minutes! Maybe Rita can give us some extended remixes of some of these tracks in the future? 10/10 5. White Blossom The opening to this with waves of string sounds is so beautiful I could feel the beginnings of a couple of tears starting to well up. We get a gentle, slow beat, some quiet piano sounds, Rita's beautiful voice and a sparkly sound. And just like that this lovely EP is over. Again I wanted this track to carry on longer but it works just right as a gentle outro. 9/10 This is a beautiful EP which I am excited to listen to again, especially Wide Blue Sky which I am utterly hooked on! The first two tracks are closer to ambient / chillout than psychedelic to me, which is absolutely fine because sometimes that's exactly what you need to calm you down. I find all Rita's music incredibly soothing and comforting, a guiding light through any kind of mental voyage. If you haven't heard much of Rita's music before I highly recommend you start with her Mystic Melodies album which is in equal parts soothing, groovy and extremely trippy and there are some harder full on remixes on it as well which were just great even for this old Goa head. Flowing Circle shows she's definitely still got it and has some amazing collaborations. Wide Blue Sky though, wow I want to hear it again right now! 9/10 https://altar-records-europe.bandcamp.com/album/flowing-circle
  2. Moon Tripper - Hypnotic Frequencies Altar Records - ARCDA130 I hadn't heard of Moon Tripper before, the Dubai-based artist Brad Ashtar. I came across this album because I enjoy psychill and want to start posting reviews of new music here so I was looking over Altar Records' recent catalog. 1. Moon Tripper – Inside Your Head 13:03 2. Astral Waves – Black Panther Medicine (Moon Tripper Remix) 10:15 3. Moon Tripper – Mystical Realm 6:57 4. Moon Tripper – Transcendental 7:15 5. Moon Tripper – Arise 6:00 6. Moon Tripper – Hypnotic Frequencies 6:59 7. Moon Tripper – Dopamine 7:55 8. Moon Tripper – Spiritual Smiles 8:53 9. Moon Tripper – Elevated State 8:00 10. Moon Tripper – Earth's Consciousness 6:46 1. Inside Your Head: This has a lovely long build up with mysterious pads, slow flute, growly synth sounds, what I think is a sitar sound, tribal drums and later a nice kick and bass come in. A little reminiscent of Elysium to me but with the psy turned down and ambience cranked up I suppose. 6/10 2. Black Panther Medicine (Moon Tripper Remix): We start with some tribal voices and cool drippy sounds. The kick and bass makes it sound a little bit dark and we have some nice somewhat tribal percussion coming in then some really trippy melodic synths. Nice. 9/10 3. Mystical Realm: This track is harder and a lot more psychedelic than the earlier ones but still has a lot of ambience. A nice, slightly more irregular beat. 7/10 4. Transcendental: We continue the harder psychedelic theme with this one which is really nice with layers of squelchy synths and still little bits of ambience sprinkled in here and there. 8/10 5. Arise: A mystical sparkley opening with a female voice and some flutey ambiences. Then the driving kick and bass come in quite near the start and groovy synth stabs. It feels more ambient than the previous track whilst maintaining the pace and energy. 7/10 6. Hypnotic Frequencies: For the title track we're back to harder psy again with some really tasty acid lines. The production quality is nice and the pads envelope you with a real sense of depth and immersion. If you only have time for one track, listen to this one. 9/10 7. Dopamine: This sounds closer to pure psytrance to me. The light sort of synth-almost-a-flute melody is nice from about 1:40. Past the halfway mark I must admit I was losing interest a bit but the closing parts of the track were a bit better. As mainly a Goa fan I may not be the target audience. 5/10 8. Spiritual Smiles: It opens with chanting, then the standard kick and bass, and a fairly laid back mood with lots of weird ambient sounds and one meandering synth. Then from around 4 minutes we get nice acid coming in. A trippy breakdown where the chanting comes back. 8/10 9. Elevated State: This one is some crazy mind jumbling psytrance. Sounds to me a bit like darkpsy with the tempo turned down slightly. 6/10 10. Earth's Consciousness: We end with another serviceable psytrance track that's well put together but not really my cup of tea. 5/10 As primarily a Goa fan who also enjoys psychill and ambient but is less keen on modern psy, I find this album a bit of a mixed bag, but the good bits are great and the rest of it I certaintly wouldn't mind having on in the background. I deliberately listened to this before trying any of Moon Tripper's older music. It will be interesting to see if that is more to my tastes. 6/10 https://moon-tripper.bandcamp.com/album/hypnotic-frequencies?label=3714585001&tab=music
  3. I've been learning to use my DAW. Here's my very incomplete early attempt at a Goa Trance track, aiming for a slightly tribal feel and lowish tempo (143 bpm at the moment). I'd love any comments and suggestions, even to tell me it's dreadful. The drums need some work I think. The ones at the start are supposed to be 808 style tom toms, but I think the kick maybe interferes with them a bit and they get sort of clicky so I may change them. I like my melody but I'm not totally sure if it matches up that well with the percussion and bass in terms of the timing. If I don't end up abandoning the whole thing I'll probably make some acid lines next and maybe another layer or two, pads and other samples.

  8. Released:11 Jan 2019 Style: Ambient, Downtempo Bandcamp Tracklist: 1. Cat and Mouse 04:57 2. Beyond the Radar 06:03 3. Hobo Sapien 06:21 4. Colour of the Sky 06:06 5. Dance of Light 05:58 6. The Great Super Mango 06:26 7. Tolticken 03:58 8. Out of Body 05:54 9. Tree Frogs 07:51 Spatialize is Neil Butler, an ambient producer from UK, who is also known as Dreaming Tree. This is his fifth outing as Spatialize, an ambient project that has been alive and kicking since 2005. Neil's music appeared on a fair number of compilations for labels such as SAS Records, Disco Gecko, Mystic Sound Records, and others. If you like rhythmical ambient that can at times delve into the 4/4 territory, then you will appreciate this effort. As usual, I will give a short description of each track with individual rating, and then summarize my thoughts at the end of the review. I also need to add that I like to evaluate each track separately and don't see much point of talking about the album as a whole. REVIEW 1. Cat and Mouse 04:57 The first track is rather upbeat and goes into proper breakbeat territory from the very beginning. It's not too fast or anything, but it isn't much of a chill out track either. The harmonica sounds evoke memories of OTT's Halucinogen remixes, and those are clear influences here. It has a really nice production and some live saxophone comes in the second half of the track. The sax doesn't sound cheesy or anything, and it actually fits the jazzy vibe of the track pretty well. Overall, a nice little intro track that sets the mood for the whole album. 3/5 2. Beyond the Radar 06:03 Now this is where the album really starts. Psychill vibes are all over this track that runs on a slower BPM than the previous one. Then, the soothing vocal enters the scene and makes everything roll. Swirling melodies caress the ears, and the harmonica is back once again, which is not a bad thing at all. Everything in the first half of the track sounds very, very nice. After a moderate breakdown in the middle Spatialize adds a bit of intensity with the help of an electric guitar, but its completely subdued and doesn't scream in your face. The "acoustic" guitar takes the lead at the end and nicely rounds things out. 4/5 3. Hobo Sapien 06:21 Track #3 has a fantastic intro, very cinematic. The dramatic overtones are supported by a pulse rhythm in the area of 100-110 BPM. It isn't exactly a dance track, but you could easily make it a bit faster and turn into some weird house track. Once again, the guitars and, I think, a violin emerge and play around chopped up male vocals until everything boils down to another dramatic interlude. In the last third the sax is also back, but this time it's a bit funny and doesn't really know where to go with the mood set in the first part of the track. But maybe that's how Neil wanted it and who am I to judge. 3/5 4. Colour of the Sky 06:06 Colour of the Sky truly begins at around 2:30 when a sitar introduces a synth melody and a female vocal. These intertwine and create an incredible effect. I really like this track and would say that this is probably one of the best psychill tracks I've heard lately. The sounds of various instruments create their own whirlpools or pockets of sounds that make the entire track shimmer. I can't describe this any better, just listen to it. A fanastic psychedelic track. 5/5 5. Dance of Light 05:58 We're back on the 4 on the floor territory with this rather generic track. The rhythm is similar to Hobo Sapien, but the ideas in the track are far less interesting. I can't really say much more about Dance of Light, it's just bland and recycles previous ideas in an uninspiring way. 2/5 6. The Great Super Mango 06:26 Here is an example of a track that once again recycles the previous ideas on the album but in an interesting way. It's not the highlight of an album, but it doesn't just run through the speakers in an unnoticable fashion, but actually creates some friction within a listener. I guess it has something to do with the choice of the instruments, which are basically, the same as before: a guitar, a harmonica, and a sax. Probably the way they are processed also has something to do with the intriguing atmosphere of the track. I am not a producer and can't really judge this too well, but one can clearly hear whether an artist has a certain motivation or one simply goes with the flow and improvize as they go. In any case, it's a solid track, but nothing you haven't heard before. 3/5 7. Tolticken 03:58 The shortest track on the album is also the most beautiful one. There is no sonic trickery involved, just lush melodies interrupted by short rhythmic bursts. It finishes before it even begins properly, and it really feels like it should've been much longer. If it had extra 3-4 miniutes in it, then the rating would be higher. 3/5 8. Out of Body 05:54 Experience shows that all 4/4 tracks on the album have been underwhelming. The same goes for Out of Body, which is a nice track overall, but with the same recycled patterns as before. Not much is happening here throughout the entire run of the track. But if you enjoy the sound of an acoustic guitar, then you will definitely appreciate it. 3/5 9. Tree Frogs 07:51 The final track saves Beyond the Radar and sets the high standard of the first half of the album once again. The flute is the king of this track and it has so much power that the result is nothing short of magnificent. I would say Tree Frogs is in the top 3 tracks of the album, which also includes Beyond the Radar and Colour of the Sky. Music like this is truly inspiring and I'm glad that Neil decided to close the album with such a strong production. It leaves the best possible impression. 4/5 --- The first half of the album is much stronger than its second half. I really wanted to put this album in one row with my favorite chill out albums from the past, but I just can't do it. It has a lot of interesting ideas and the production values are strong, but there just seems to be not enough fire or inspiration for it to be truly outstanding. The highlight of the album is definitely Colour of the Sky. This track is so complex that I would dare any producer to figure out how it's done. But it's not just the complexity that really makes it stand out, but the ideas in it are dare I say innovative. I'm just really happy that I could find something that is so musically meaningful in this album. And that doesn't happen too often, even when I listen to some of my favorite artists. I'll be returning to this track at moments when I seem to lose any interest in music, just to remind myself that those precious moments of awe can still exist in the current psychill scene. With all that said, the album is quite good, but not remarkable, so the final rating of mine would be: 3.5 out of 5

  10. Covid-19 Blah blah blah... Been away for over a year Blah blah blah... Let's talk about the things that matter...Music Androcell - Chronicle Yeap, that's right. It's time for Tyler Smith to enter the few artists that are part of Digital Reprints' catalogue. I first "saw" rather than "heard" Tyler's art through the cover of the excellent compilation Natural Born Chillers. Although I am not a fan of faces in cover art in general, there was something in that one that really struck me. That made me dig a little deeper and was surprised to find out that the artist responsible had released an album as well. After my first listen of Emotivision I knew he would be up there, with the rest of my favourite artists on the Psydub/Psychill genre. Since then, he never failed to deliver a high quality, emotional release time and again. Only problem being that the last physical release was in 2014. A remixed album and several EPs that followed after were always on a digital format only. Which is a shame really, for us, the people that take pride showcasing their collection of those magical, silver discs. Don't worry though because I (and you) am here to put things right. Four discs on an 8pp digipack format with artwork and layout provided by Tyler himself. Three of the discs will comprise material never before released on physical format and one will be a collection of tracks from various compilations. The music will be presented in a chronological format showcasing the evolution in Androcell's sound. Please follow the link for more info and to pledge. Project is already funded and only 20 copies left. http://kck.st/3ieso0s

  24. Zen Baboon - Re-Visited http://kck.st/2u5WcGK https://digitalreprints.bandcamp.com/album/re-visited-kickstarter-project Amazing, isn't it? Digital Reprints has already 10 releases under her belt. That means You have contributed in bringing 10 amazing releases in our space-time continuum. So what now? One place we haven't yet visited is the Mediterranean. I know it's still the middle of winter (this side of the globe at least) but before you know it Spring will be here. And there is a duo, located in beautiful Portugal who know exactly what music to provide to lift your spirits and take you towards a sunny journey. That duo is known as Zen Baboon of course Henriq and Daniel released their debut album, Suber, in Elektric Dream Records on 2013. It was a fine mix of Chillout, Downtempo, Lounge and Ambient music, masterfully balancing between the two extremes without favouring one over the other. It was their first, and unfortunately, their last physical release. After the critical appraise of their debut album, followed releases on various compilations. It was 3 years later, in their own label (Baboon Clinic) that their second album was released. At the same year is when Zen Baboon became more productive releasing various EPs. In 2019 their last album saw the light. An astounding release of downtempo tunes accompanied by spoken words and poetry. But what about the music collectors out there? The fans that take pride on showcasing their collection and having an exhilarating feeling when they are actually holding a release in their hands? Probably you have already pledged even before you reached these words but in case you are new to Digital Reprints here is what you get. By helping us reach our goal you will take pride knowing that you helped bring a truly limited release to existence. A 4xCD digipack with the albums Origiro and Beat Generation and 2 discs with various tracks compiled by Henrique himself. But that's not all. Almost all the tracks will be alternate versions of the ones currently available. Either remastered, edited for this release or remixed for live shows. And just 100 copies worldwide. What else is there to ask? Oh yeah, 10 copies (only) will be signed by Henriq and Daniel.
  25. Point - Human Music Catalogue: DigitalDiamonds069L Format: Album Released: December 2019 Point’s (GER) album, Human Music, is undefinable. It's a lesson in sound design, expressively presented as a new breed of intelligent dance music. Its warm, rich and supple analogue textures will immediately engage you while meshing you between ripples of hybrid genres. Compositionally, it carefully progresses into symphonies of sombre etherealness then morphs into pronounced primordial rhythms. His third LP is a veracious nourishment of the soul and will have you feeling like you are standing on the edge of the earth. Get it: https://www.digital-diamonds.com/index.php?id=digitaldiamonds069l
