  1. This is not technically a caleidoscope effect, but I used the term caleidoscopic to refer to the mirrored style. And more importantly, it's not fractals - I think you need to look up what fractals are. Per definition they're not even graphics. So caleidoscope I can take, but don't call this fractals. And the misalignment wasn't totally my fault =) But if you don't like this design, thats fine. Just don't judge it by something it isn't trying to be.
  2. Not UK but at least on the right side of the pond: http://www.groove.nl/. They have it in stock for £11.49 - big and reliable site, despite its horrible design. Did a quick search on amazon uk and hmv, but neither had it.
  3. I haven't even had time to investigate... I was going to guess for Peter Huber but somone's already posted an update to discogs (pending) mentioning that. Post here once you know, ok? =) shit this reminds me I have to mail Peter as well...
  4. Pyrogen is indeed totally amazing. I listen to it pretty much every day, and it just keeps getting better. And if the day comes when I grow tired of it, there's the other 7 tracks to wear out =)
  5. Originally it wasn't symmetric/kaleidoscopic actually =) I wouldn't say I made it as a direct tribute, but obviously Matsuri's design legacy has had an influence. I wanted to make something colourful and mesmerising that could represent the music well - I felt the last one got a bit too dark for the music, so I like this one better. And to do it in "classic goa style" was natural, but I wanted organic stuff rather than having it totally computer generated - analogue synthesizers need analogue graphics. Goa trance aesthetics like this isn't perhaps the height of "good taste", but I can't help being a sucker for this sort of stuff, while at the same time appreciating the tribal vision designs.
  6. I don't mind seeing them come out at once, and I would actually expect them to help eachothers sales, as they show two different sides of the artist. For example, when Michael Andresen released Solid State as 12 Moons and Higher Grounds as Healer at the same time, I don't think they sold less than they would have if released a year between. I'm really really looking forward to both albums here, and I can't decide which I want more... But since AHS - "Puke In The Dust" is one of my favourite tracks of all time, I must say I hope for more of that flavour on the Suntrip album.
  7. I was just listening to Visitors - "Tiny Little Engines". Pretty damn unique. Overall I think psy trance needs to experiment more again - song structures, keys, sounds, mixing - all of these are way too standardized right now. You don't absolutely need a sharp attack on the kick, you don't need a 16th note bassline, you don't need to separate each sound in the mix, you don't need to use the same presets everyone else has. If some of the big producers would start focusing on making mind-altering music rather than following the psy-trance dogma, I think this music could reach a broader audience once again, like it did in 1996.

    ?

Saw this a few days ago - bloody brilliant =) And yet I consider myself a DJ... And I too have been guilty of standing facing the DJ way too much, but usually my excuse is that it's where the speakers are, and I want good sound. I still fondly remember the days of quadruple speaker stacks. One of many favourite quotes from that comic: "You really fucking think you're going to impress people with glowstick shows?" and also the word "trancetard". Lovely =)
  9. Depends on the size of your collection =) Once you've got it all in though, it's LOVELY! I can't imagine life without Discogs anymore. If you have 2000 records, you can be done in a weekend, easily. And I bet you'll find lots of stuff for your wantlist in the process... I've been too lazy to post in this thread lately, I might get back to it soon.
  10. I was a bit bummed to see Astral and Beyond Colour shoot up so much over the past few days - I was planning to bid since I've almost got a complete TIP collection (but missing these), but at these prices I'll pass. I have both on vinyl anyway, and I have the Substance CD version of the astral album, so it's just for collection purposes. That money will be better spent on other discs. However, I am VERY confused over the price for 3D - that's not even the first edition! I can see the original custom sleeve go for a lot (it's very cool), but this? It's nuts. BTW I have 3D first TIP edition, second TIP edition, TIP promo, japanese edition, and TIP triple vinyl =) I think it's my record for trance, 5 versions of the same album...
  11. I don't have all that many magazines, but will get to work on the Dream Creation feb/march 97 issue now. I'll scan selected ads and articles from 96-97 issues of WAX as well.
  12. I scanned a few right away: http://ukiro.com/pressreleases/ Note the mention of TWO upcoming Organic Noise albums in the TIP022 press release, for example... I wonder why that never happened? I'll go through my vinyl shelf and look for more press releases later.

    FULL ON

While I haven't listened to all of the above (and I own just vol 1 & 2), number two was a real bomb back when it came out in 98, and it still brings back nice memories =) The first was a bit uneven and had some filler tracks, while on vol 2 I only dislike the last track - all the othes are really really good. And it has Double Doper on it, damnit! Heck, even my girlfriend has vol 2 =)
  14. I finally got myself a scanner 2 days ago, so when I have the time I will go through the magazines I have as well as my now rather thick pile of old press releases - How about you add a table column in the new ekto database for press releases eh? =)
  15. *nice* bass =) Don't be afraid to make it really really dark - no need for higher BPMs or a fuller bassline - just make it eerie and ominous as hell! There is a niche to be filled there, noone seems to take that concept as far as I want... The reverbed-stabs-over-progressive-beat-niche, on the other hand, is fairly saturated.
  16. Not all that rare - don't pay over 10 euro (excluding shipping). I think there's one on ebay right now, actually.
  17. Ouch - this is a tricky one! You're the first I'll contact if I find another one, but DAMN it's rare... The "20-30 copies made" statement in its Discogs page is what Richard Ahlberg, who ran the label, told me when he gave me my copy.
  18. Word. But a lot of DJ's can't even stick to a fucking theme for more than two tracks in a row, they mix whatever they may randomly flip up in their caselogic's. And for the love of god, someone pry the effect knob off of the DJM600 first if you necessarily have to let these fucktards up there, because I do NOT need to hear another set with the fucking flanger caned in EVERY. SINGLE. TRACK. Anyway - My beef isn't necessarily with single-sounded albums (although I do crave some variation), but with the fact that you nowadays can't tell the artists apart - it's one sound per the entire genre. As I've said about 18000 times now, remember when you could tell a transwave track from one by etnica, a mwnn track from one by hallucinogen, a green nuns track from one by total eclipse? That diversity is gone, and while you have a wide range of styles (from housey prog to full on and the "dark" stuff), there are very very few who have their own distinct sound. Back in the 90's, a sonically thematic album was fine because it was almost guaranteed to be different and thus interesting, but today it's a whole other story. Apparantly most producers think that you have to pick a sub-genre formula, and stick to it no matter what. Same kicks, same basses, same production techniques, same structures, same fucking mood in every track. And since you can always count on me to retort any Filteria criticism: While Sky Input has a limited range of sound styles, it still stands out from the rest of the scene like a monstertruck at a Fiat factory. That's something that can't be said for very many albums in the past few years. But yeah, it could do with more variations in sound, I'm nagging him about this every time he's making a new track =)
  19. Loren X - Defenitive Perception It's really just a compilation of tracks from his singles on Trans'Pact and Doss House, but as an album its a very nice and consistent journey. The music is lush and yet raw - primite but still emotionally refined. It's taken me a while to fully appreciate it, and anyone who got into this scene later than I might be put off by the oldschool production and simple structures, but to me this is a real jewel, and one of the reasons I'm so determined to get all Trans'Pact vinyls... there must be more tracks like these!
  20. Try this URL for a bittirrent of the mix: http://www.ektoplazm.com/tracker/torrents/...set_MP3.torrent it *should* work, if not I'll get on it in the morning.
  21. I'll look into a BitTorrent solution for them (at least the Howling Dawn Mix), and will post here when/if I solve that.
  22. well it's not like I had the biggest crowd ever (I played the closing set and it had been a cold night):
  23. I've ended a set with Snap! - "Rhythm Is A Dancer" =)
  24. Hedningarna - "Graucholorfen" (pitched up slightly maybe) That track is just so amazing. I WILL open a set with it some day, if I can jsut figure out how the hell I'm supposed to maintain that mood throughout the rest of the set... and for electronic music, a morning trancer from the club side that would go well in the sunrise: Moon Project - "Moments Are Forever"
