Rest assured that I will go over the other aspects of the track once this issue has been resolved =) Since I dabble in production myself and also DJ, I'd like to think that I can give fairly useful feedback. But as I stated before, I think it's pointless to do that until the track is in better shape technically.
-
I find it peculiar that you aren't more concerned about this - For me the timing and "thightness" of the track feels totally ruined because of those glitchy notes, and this also destroys the entire flow and atmosphere. I think it's a very serious flaw. Every single millisecond matters in this type of music - try moving the bassline of a track back or forth a few milliseconds and notice how the percieved speed of the track changes greatly - it is CRUCIALLY important to have the timing right.
-
Yeah, some note that should be on a 1/16 grid seem to be about 1/64 off - so it could indeed be quantization. But don't you agree that some stuff in the track sound glitchy and rhythmically "wrong"? I think it's very obvious.
-
There was an israeli style of goa trance in the late 1990's that was called nitzonot - it's much happier and cheesier than regular goa trance - it's ultra-melodic and hectic. In short, the style is just called nitzo. And comps stands for compilations, meaning CDs with various artists.
-
Neato! While I already have it, where did you get yours? This one is painfully hard to find, I was very lucky to find one that was still sealed earlier this year. It took me like 2 months before I decided to break it open =)
-
Sounds very nitzo... so I can't help you, since I'm allergic to that sound. But see if you can download som nitzo comps and I'm sure you'll find it.
-
Perhaps this is true for some, but I rip Jannis (Filteria) apart whenever he sends me some demo that isn't up to par =) Yes, Cedric knows his shit. But for me, this is way too cheesy. Very sweet production and much more melodic and euphoric than most full-on these days, sure - but it still sounds much too stale and "sober" to me. I want intoxicating music, which I think is not too much to ask from a genre called psychedelic trance. I hope this track is the start of a new trend, but I'll sit back and wait some more before I pull out my wallet.
-
The lead is much too guitar-like for me, the vocal samples are utterly pointless and it needs more layering and filter sweeps - but it is indeed a step in the right direction... Perhaps the gig in Sweden with Filteria had some influence on him =) (I wasn't there but I heard the crowd didn't cheer nearly as much for Talamasca...) The key changes are annoying though, and the track is too cheesy. Full-on needs more mystery and hypnosis.
-
Maybe you should look up "metaphor" instead.
-
No it doesn't depend on the definition, it depends on your misconception of the term "holy grail". The meaning of that expression is fairly well established. Read up on the Holy Grail here, specifically the "Modern interpretations" bit.
-
I haven't said that its status as a holy grail is connected to my opinion - you, on the other hand, did. 42 people have it in their wantlist on Discogs, which to my knowledge is the only way in which we can measure how desired it is. So lets compare this number: Pleiadians - I.F.O. is wanted by 35, Transwave - Hypnorhythm is wanted by 30, Hallucinogen - Twisted by 16 and Astral Projection - Trust In Trance by 18. Let's check some compilations too, for fairness sake: Order Odonata (1) - 12 Yellow Compilation - 28 First Flight - 20 Global Psychedelic Trance Compilation Vol. 1 - 18 Blue Room Released Vol: 1 - Outside The Reactor - 10 These are much easier to find and this of course lowers the wantlist numbers, but thats beside the point. A holy grail would not be a holy grail if it was readily available at your lokal IKEA warehouse. In fact, I'd like to know if there is a single goa trance record that is more sought after than Accidental Occidentalism. How then, can it NOT be considered a holy grail? So regardless of what you would like to think, this IS one of the holy grails of goa trance.
-
I think the €250 price tag begs to differ. And your personal preferences has nothing to do with wether it's a holy grail or not.
-
Several reasons... musically: - There are 3 CD-exclusive Pleiadians tracks on this disc. While they are much earlier and more crude than their later releases, the characteristic Pleiadians/Etnica sound is there, and I absolutely love it. - The two Transwave tracks are among the best they ever did - although they are also available elsewhere, they are no less amazing. - Overall this has a lovely mood and sound to it, which for many represents the way goa trance sounded when they first got in contact with it. I know that you (being much younger) came into the scene several years later, but for me, this compilation captures the essence of goa trance very well. This makes it very valuable for me. and then there is the materialistic value: - Symbiosis was a very important label for many, and personally it's one of my very favourites, more so than bigger ones like Spirit Zone, Flying Rhino or Transient. Having the very first CD from such a label is very rewarding for me. - It's very, very rare. The collectors value of this CD is absolutely insane. I've seen it on eBay ONCE, and it sold for about 250 euro. So when I got the chance to get ahold of it, I did what I could.. and succeeded. The chance might not come again for several years, and when it does, the price could very well be even higher. For a deeper understanding of my thoughts on record collecting, see this post and the other ones I made later in the same thread.
-
It cost me quite a bit, but it was almost entierly a trade, with some extra money in between. Either way, seeing as how this is one of the holy grails of goa trance, it was worth it =)
-
It IS very unsynced still. Something is very fucked up with the midi timing in that studio... No point in reviewing it in other aspects until that issue has been addressed.
-
At long fucking last: Accidental Occidentalism Now jsut missing the original Orion CD and the compilation Funk on CD to have a COMPLETE Symbiosis collection, including the never released Balagan sampler...
-
Another step towards a complete TIP Records collection: Growling Mad Scientists - The Growly Family http://www.discogs.com/release/70353 ...and a cheap one for completing the label: Zone Tripper - Biocult http://www.discogs.com/release/112317 Just missing number 5 & 6 here, but they're very low priority... And then this monstrous release (note - 40 page 12" booklet!) Deathspell Omega - Kénôse http://www.discogs.com/release/475082

Back To Plastic and UGCDS is pretty dead as far as I know. There is no longer a physical store and I haven't seen or heard from the owner, Thomas, in a very long time. Try the mail address if thereis one, but he could take weeks to reply even when it was active. There is bound to be a lot of old stock somewhere though.
-
VA - Return To The Source - Sacred Sites 3xLP (had the CD already) VA - TIP Singles 3xLP (Had the CD already) I'm slowly getting closer to a complete TIP records collection - I have 67 of their releases, so I'm only missing 9 now, 10 if you count the regular 2xLP version of Orange Compilation.
-
for a slight goa connection, henrik "nordvargr" björkk is actually a friend of ulf "weirdo beardo" gustavsson =) nice to see wirikuta picking up the distribution of releases like these I must say.
-
No, another Leo. No releases so far, but apparantly an amazing talent - there will be a track by this Leo and Filteria on the next Filteria album. And about the filteria bashing here - while everyone is entitled to an opinion, I think many of you need to give his music more time. Also, the new material is very improved in terms of structure and storytelling. For full power, blasting melodic trance, noone can touch his stuff. And I'd say that even if he wasn't a friend of mine. How some of you can consider Ethereal a worthy competitor is beyond me though, because to me it goes nowhere and lacks any structural dynamics. (edit: typos)

Too lazy for links, but I got these the other day: Enertopia - magic for eternity (CD) Electric Universe - One Love (CD)
