  1. You DID see my scans of the january 1997 issue of Dream Creation, right? Anyway, I have more to scan, so as soon as I can get myself a two week vacation, that andother projects will get a chance to appear on my busy schedule...
  2. Well it might take some training to spot, but essentially, nick taylor didn't create all that many sounds with synthesizers - he used those too ofcourse, but very many sounds in his productions are samples that he tweaked. Not necessarily of speech though, as it could be anything... Didgeridoos, insects, weird environmental sounds, other instruments, etc. Listen to early Prana material (the Inter 1 EPs, Cyclone, etc) and try to hear what sounds like a synth sound and what sounds like a recording that has been tampered with. When he left Prana, their style changed and they used much fewer samples.
  3. Listen to the Reflecta 12" - it's soooo many samples, and that shows a different approach to composing than what is heard in SWM from the same year. The early Prana stuff is also very much centered around sample tweaking, while I never felt the same way about SWM.
  4. The members are a secret affair, but Ollie Olsen is certainly in, and I would guess some other Psy-Harmonics oldtimers too; I'm not at home so I can't dig out all the records and check for clues. Judging by sound however, the Psyko Disko lads *might* be involved and maybe even Ray Castle. I also suspect Andrew Till and Geoffrey Hales are (or have been) involved. Some of their sounds from around 1996 sound suspiciously Nick Taylor-esque, but he was very very big on sampling, which was never SWM's thing really. I've read several times throughout the years that they are 4 people, and their latest release feature 4 people on the sleeve. I think the booklet for The Hungry Forest shows 4 "dolls" as well, with some weird names...
  5. No it's not. Ollie Olsen is one of four members of Shaolin Wooden Men, although they're not always all involved in every track.
  6. "Jean" is just his middle name apparantly, the name he uses in everyday life os something else - but I can't remember what it is! I know I saw it on a flyer for a party here in Stockholm, but I can't find info on that party anywhere on the net.
  7. I asked on you-know-what-mailinglist-I'm-talking-about if theer was a connection between the two some time back; Way back in 1996 there was talk about they being the same person or some other connection, and I somehow recalled hearing that when I was listening to Brain Food. So did you hear this from my posting or have you too heard it elsewhere? I'm pretty convinced they're not the same (we'd know by now) but there really are some eerie similarities in the music.
  8. My mistake, I must have been very tired this morning - It's blue compilation that has a single card and not a folded (booklet) one. About the reviews of Brainman; It's very unique and certainly not for everyone. And considering that it came out in 1996 I think it's not hard to see how a lot of people didn't "get it". I know I didn't back then, so I bought something else instead. I bought my copy just a few years ago...
  9. Silver compilation? You must have japanese editions, mate.
  10. Not right now, as I'm at work. But it sounds plausible, I think it very well might be blank. For instance, Orange compilation doesn't even have a booklet, it's just a single "card". TIP didn't really go fancy with that stuff...
  11. For what it's worth, I've opened a DJ set with Fluorobrain once. The album is very... different. Some tracks are really cool in the right context, but as a whole the album doesn't quite get to me. If you enjoy early (1996-ish) Sandman stuff it's a must-have. It's NOT standard old-school goa trance, it's way more eclectic and experimental. I would file this under "special music", stuff you never listen to casually but that really hits the spot on those few occasions you really crave its particular flavour. Also, it's a rare old TIP CD so you will have no trouble getting those 10 euro (and more!) back if you decide it's not worthy of being in your collection. So my recommendation is to buy it.
  12. Let me know if you do find it, I might have something to offer =)
  13. Yeah thats a nice one! It's on this album: http://www.discogs.com/release/125566 (vinyl version) http://www.discogs.com/release/66705 (CD version) ...but it was originally released on that Greek CD you got (with 2 years of margin, too).
  14. Damn, boy! How's the Psychaos track? I think it's exclusive to this CD, right?
  15. There were some stuff with the full on-ish bassline sound and the screechy leads popping up in 1997/1998 - wether or not it qualifies as "full on" is difficult to say though. I don't think it had those super-annoying mini breaks with the reverse kicks =) I think there was something on Phantasm and possibly some Transient release in 1997 with this sound... but it's monday morning so my mind isn't really working. And I'm not at home so I can't check. The Etnica track "Full On" came out in early 1996 but has nothing in common with the sub-genre "full on". Koxbox' "Fuel On" also came out in 1996. So the term was used back then, but not to describe the same thing as now.
  16. Another rare Tim Shuldt appearance is here, with the same guy he did Kind Of Intelligence with: http://www.discogs.com/release/201972
  17. I think the first Opsis album is very unique. It has the atmospheres I miss in other "dark psy" and it lacks those annoying, grating screech-leads and fart sounds. Very nice and underrated album. His follow-up was not nearly as interesting though.
  18. Nice offer, but I don't trust those things =/
  19. Do NOT put words in my mouth. I never claimed you told "...people not to have their own opinion". NEVER. I did however point to the blatant contradiction in your statements, which you don't seem to see yourself. First you're saying we shouldn't tell the artist what to produce, and then you yourself write this: It certainly looks as though your preachings only apply to others, and not to yourself. I have NOT made comments as to wether we should critizise the artist or not, wether we should speak our mind or not, or anything similar. I ONLY pointed out your flawed logic, so please don't drag this into being a discussion about something else.
  20. Paging Mr. Logic! How inconsistent can you possibly get, man?
  21. I've checked now and my copy has the same error.
  22. Haha, yeah thats pretty damn obvious. I'll check my copy - I bought mine right when it came out so it's from the first batch (dunno if there ever was a second printing). But even if they printed several runs, they are likely to be from the same master.
