how old were you when you first

Im still stuck in tracker-land, I use Renoise, which is a modernised VST supporting tracker. Its evolving into a pretty formidable program. It was cheap, thats the real reason, and its got ASIO and 32 bit float output. So its no FastTracker II, definitely kilometers away from Impulse... Renoise site Soon though, its cubase... -

well if youre gonna be that specific, what about 1:00pm trance? How about 11:23AM trance? Morning trance goes well enough all day long. Well enough, it would seem, enough so that most parties are like this. If you really want to formulate the perfect hour for each tune, I guess, umm, more power to you (?). You never really know until you play it, what time its most appropriate.

Im listening to the Sound of Music soundtrack, as redone by Bathory. Actually Im listening to Digital Energy System, trk 2 on the album Digital ACid System. really trippy stuff with really fat bass. http://www.discogs.com/artist/Digital+Energy+System -
I like to have other-than-psychill songs as well, I keep any kind of music that would fit the atmosphere in my chillout cd case. Thats all its really about, atmosphere. Most of the time I dont try to beatmatch, many chill songs are widely dispersed along the BPM range so unless you have a cd player wiht +/- 100% its not even possible. Usually I just play outro-intro. Its not dance music, anyway, so why not have it broken up a bit? If you do manage to beatmatch, it does sound cool. Just keep in mind the flow, keep it where you want it, let it go where you want it.

I guess its a matter of preference if you have the bass and kick at the same time. When Ive tried it it didnt quite sound right, bass and kick mashing together... it was a while ago though, been avoiding it, maybe I need to try it again... But if your making fullon killargghghghg... It also depends on what kind of bass sound you use, if its pretty similar to the kick it may do the whole too-much-bass-in-one-hit sorta thing, adding a ton of distortion. In my experience, at least. But, also in my experience, a sine kick with a saw or pulse bass, or a saw or pulse LFO, sounds fine. And again its also a matter of what sound you want. In my experience yet again, for "dark"psy, it sounds mashed up if you have the bass hitting on the kick. But a bass note sustaining over the kick sounds fine. Kalki: usually I do the same as you do, make a bass and rhythm then kinda jam over it til I find something I like. But Im still very unhappy with my results, so maybe you shouldnt listen to me!

Now that you've mentioned it, I can really see what you mean about the .1 pitch... I seem to be able to make a decent match but I can see where another decimal place would help. For what they are my 100s are ok. They do the trick! Thats what its really about, playing music, so people can dance. They dont necessarily come to the party to see the dj mess around...

such a sweet album... fitting epitaph... trk 5 was previously released on Multiple Personalities, Terminator vs CPC. the samples from trk 6 and 9 are Pink Floyd
-
Just make sure that the kick is not hitting at the same time as the bass. basic bassline: (K=kick B=bass) K-bbK-bbK-bbK-bb (galloping doof doodoo doof doodoo) KbbbKbbbKbbbKbbb (OMFG killargh fullon bass, also the same for darkpsy) others, mainly found in prog: K--bK-b-K--bK-b- (doof badoof ba doof badoof ba) Kb-bK-b-Kb-bK-b- (dodoot dadoof doot dodoot dadoof doot) hope this helps, hope you can understand what Im gettin at... -

Ive only used pioneers and once one of those Numark all-in-one things (mixer and 2 cdplayers in a box those are crap) The cue and jogwheel on the Numark made me eager to return to the Pioneer. Someday Im gonna have a pair of cdj-1000's.... someday....
-
well as far as I know Pioneer has the best anti-skip technology. THats pretty important, especially with psytrance. Plus all those effects kinda clutter the interface. Maybe Pioneers last longer as well? I dont know, Ive only had Pioneers. ive got the cdj-100s's and Im happy with them, regardless of pitch percentages or whatever. Lepton: You're actually the first person Ive ever heard say anything bad about the cdj-100. At least its got a jogwheel, some of those cheapass packages (GEmini Im lookin at you) dont even have that.

trk 2-Bluetech and Shulman-Midnight Bloom ahhhhhh.... nice relaxing morning-at-work music... -
when I make a bass in C it stands out quite a bit more than other notes, louder and more forceful. could be what I use to make the bass (303 sample).

I got this a while back and listened a bit, didnt really jump out at me, then just the other day I put it in the player again, its really much better than I thought! The Darkabba track jumped out particularly, a great example of what's being done in the San Francisco bay area.
