  1. Need help English speaker seeks proper pronunciation of the word "Suomi" someone break it down phonetically for me? Would be greatly appreciated. (been listening to Not My Cup of Tea comp all night, and finally just have to know) Cheers
  2. rude man, just plain rude still not sure why people say stuff like this too bad everyone chill, listen to music, and just be cool to other people peace and psy
  3. really really great thanks for mentioning this one listened to it today, and loved it what a great way to chill at work deep, intense, smooth, intricate, wonderful cheers
  4. murphy- thanks for being cool on this one, I appreciate the suggestions and all the insight regarding particular releases I spent the entire day listening to Venetian Snares/Kettel/Funckarma/Wisp/The Flashbulb pretty enjoyable experience I'd have to say - a lot of warm, dubby, downtempo, chillout kinda stuff but very electric, robotic, stimulating, pulsating, vibey cool stuff - I was surprised I liked it as much even my wife commented all day that she liked the choice of listening music so cheers for a bunch of good stuff I work a graveyard shift (11pm-7am California time) and I will be attacking a lot of the noisier, more harsh and aggressive stuff tonight at work keeps me sharp and awake which is important at my job... anyway, thanks again for all the info - maybe I will keep this IDM in my holster and add to my rotation of old school goa and techno peace PsyON
  5. so murphy, I'm curious... great list of faves, but for the new listener, do you have a fav album or two from the artists in your top 10 to get someone started? love to see a list of great albums, so much out there to sift through, this could help narrow it down cheers
  6. idm is a brand new world for me I've listened to a lot of the common stuff you'd hear if you google "IDM" but I'm taking in as much as I can for me, I don't think any of this stuff will hold the power of old school goa trance just seems like an insurmountable task really thanks for all the suggestions though, and for the comedy found in this thread - truly some classic stuff I don't care who you are, that line about Borat was funny anyway... I'll throw in a vote for Speedy J - A Shocking Hobby its hard to classify some of this stuff as just techno or just idm or just minimal or whatever so many influences in each record, but this one from Speedy sounds just as intelligent and challenging for the listener as any of the stuff I've heard from Boards of Canada / Venetian Snare / u-Ziq / AFX/Aphex Twin / Squarepusher / Autechre and for the record, an album I think is truly amazing (and no one has yet mentioned) is Mike & Rich - Expert Knob Twiddlers... if you have not heard it yet - check it That's my .02 Cheers everyone b00m <old school goa is still the best music ever made>
  7. Ok - I'm starting to get into the whole dubstep idea but I CAN NOT STAND any of it that is filled with constant hip-hop and reggae sounds Can someone make me some recommendations for good stuff (new and classic) that is just really great dubby music without all the ghetto influences? I'm interested, and waiting for the right suggestions... Cheers
  8. Psyreviews is a waste of time. But I kinda think that about most review sites. Really non of them are objective and don't really rate quality, creativity or overall contribution to the music of our scene but rather just reflect the reviewers preferences. And IMO its not even good for a laugh anymore, just a waste of time. Again, just my 2 cents. I'd rather spend the time listening to the music and figuring out what I think of it than to spend it reading someone elses thoughts when really they don't matter. When you think about it, no one's opinion truly means anything but your own. After all, its you who has to buy it and listen to it - so who cares what someone else thinks? Especially when the review only really exists for bashing (in most cases) And with darn near everything available to listen to, sample or download online, you don't actually NEED reviews to decide what to try - its all out there at the click of a button. Anyway - <rant_ended> sorry... PsyON
  9. @Lemmiwinks I agree - gotta have some variety through the night to keep it interesting. Even at my work (I do a 11pm-7am shift) I play certain types of tunes for different hours, and its different every night. Gotta keep the flavour changing all the time to make it work. At least thats the way I like to do it - of course there's no opposition when I'm spinning for a party of 1 - but you know. I find that each night is sort of its own monster with its own demands and sometimes that means fullon, or goa, or progressive trance, or techtrance, or progressive house, or darkpsy, or suomisaundi, or techno, or minimal or chillout or blah blah blah I just like to keep it diverse. Not sure who killed who, but I'll take the darkpsy stuff over the poppy fullon thats being mass produced these days. Seems like 3 out of 5 new releases is poppy poppy poppy.... not sure its for me, but it seems to be the order of the day. Why can't we just old school for a while? haha Cheers, and PsyON
  10. Really dig it. Thanks for the links to the download. Its 128, but who cares when its free music! Anyway - cool thread, thanks for sharing. PsyON
  11. OMGsh I cracked up a lot through this video. Thanks man - I needed a good laugh today. Peace PsyON
  12. Goa trance in the early 90s? NO WAY!! And discogs? THANKS - I had never heard of it.
  13. Thanks a bunch for the links - great stuff. Love your website too - I will be checking out many other tunes. Cheers and best of luck If you ever play a set in Northern California....
  14. At this point I'm not even sure I want my friends to discover this music and like it. Because even if I could get them to give it a chance and they finally ended up listening to enough of it to think "ok I'll get such and such album" they will never get it or understand it even if they like it enough for the occasional listen. And then.... trying to have them talk to me about it from some "who cares" point of view or God forbid, tell me why so and so (insert classic masterpiece artist here) just sucks and that the old schoolers are short sided and don't understand the new wave or whatever??? I don't think I could bear it - I'd just rather they still like Metallica or Justin Timberlake or whatever mainstream music fans are into these days and leave psy alone. I've been through this with all my friends before with jazz, death metal, thrash & progressive rock. Just can't sell em what's not on mtv sadly. I'll just keep my music to myself and continue to listen to "how the hell can you listen to that boom boom crap all the time?" and deal with it. I live in my own happy psyworld anyway - it doesn't need any unwilling visitors
  15. Now you've got me jonesing to hear it Been scouring online to try and find it Might be a while I love the old stuff, something so organic and magic about the music then Wonder how this one will be... Thanks for the thread

Cheers
  18. seems all the hubub was for not no guitars and really cool songs not sure why all the drama over guitar sounds anyway closed minded is no fun way to live but I don't actually concern myself with what everyone else likes for my money, I dig the record hope you all had a great 4th of July... peace
  19. Great stuff. Finally some serious creative darkpsy for 2009. Really liked it enough that I went and got his other 3 albums. They are all pretty good as well so far. Making my way through the discography. Hooray for CPC PsyON :posford:
  20. Seems to me almost the faster and harder a track hits the more I want to move my ass and when I do move that thing, I can find a way to move to the beat no matter the tempo... That's the beauty of dancing, if you can move your body, you can find a rhythm and get into it. I mean maybe some over the top darkpsy stuff at 160 or 170 is harder to find a groove, but by and large 135,140,145,150,155 is pretty danceable IMO anyway, I have no real good suggestions for you to match with Guetta and so forth Find some house music my friend...Psy might just not be your thing... Peace
  21. you should, pretty good stuff cheers
  22. Maybe I'll be inviting abuse here, but so be it... Why the hell does anyone give these threads the time of day? Someone posts a random hater thread saying so and so sucks and then everyone chimes in and so dignifies the post. What would be SO much better is to leave this dreck undiscussed, it might save us all some time to really discuss music and make new discoveries. +1 to rino as well...
  23. +1 for EvsY I also have enjoyed Sir El from Troll Scientists as well as Quacktastic from Crazy Ducks last year But to be honest, I have not even heard of a lot of Suomi stuff except for the names you always hear like Troll Scientists Luomuhappo Texas FaGGoTT Mandalavandalz Salakavala all of which I have heard and enjoyed at least some of but I would dig hearing more... Suggestions? oh yeah, I also heard Haltya - Electric Help Elves and thought it was pretty nice. In the spirit of the thread, I'm giving another spin to EvsY... good stuff
  24. I agree with a lot of folks on here that there have not been tons of stellar releases but I have really enjoyed quite a few from the 2009 offerings. Sure some of its cheese, but so what? If you can dance or chill to it, why not? Here's a selection of what I have at least enjoyed this year along with a general category... (please don't get all upset if you disagree with how I categorize the releases, they are just for simple reference) Yotopia - Connect the Dots (prog) Wi']['ch - The Hypersub (darkpsy) Vibe Tribe - Destination Unknown (fullon) Unwashed Tomato - Shovel Ready (darkpsy) Troll Scientists - Sir El (suomi) Transwave - Frontfire (goa/psy) Talamasca vs XSI - One (fullon) Solar Spectrum - Planes of Existence (prog) Solar Fields - Movements (ambient) Side Liner - Crying Cities (ambient) Shift - Dirty Signal (twilight/sa/darkon) Psypsiq Jicuri - A New World (fullon) Psykovsky - Da Budget (darkpsy) Principles of Flight - Chaos Opera (fullon) Phonic Request - Skulls and Bones (fullon) Penta - Give Me Five (darkpsy) Ocelot - One (ambient) Neelix - You're Under Control (prog) Mute - On/Off (prog) Merr0w - Born Underwater (goa/psy) Malice In Wonderland - Mad Moments (darkpsy) Mahamudra - Simplicity to Complexity (fullon) Maelstrom - Lights On (prog) Killer Buds vs Xtatic - Killer Instinct (fullon) Jesus Raves - Sick Brain (darkpsy) Hypnotic Mushroom - Obscure Forest (darkpsy) Hujaboy - Cut the Power (goa/psy) Geko - Poison Flowers (fullon) Frozen Ghost - Sin For Dinner (twilight/SA/darkon) Fitalic - Shanghai Road (prog) Filteria - Daze of Our Lives (goa/psy) Far East Ghost - Emperor (darkpsy) EvsY - Virtuosi Di Quosi (suomi) Dragon - In.Formation (darkpsy) Disco Hooligans - Clear Skies (fullon) Day.Din - A Place to be Real (prog) CPC - Subliminal Messages (darkpsy) Bluetech - The Divine Invasion (ambient) Afgin - Astral Experience (goa/psy) I'm sure there could be more, but these are some albums I have taken in on occasion and had a good time listening to and probably would spin again. Hope this gives you some suggestions to work with - cheers. PsyON
