  1. I live in Sacramento, and am very close to San Francisco, and even here where dance music and the party scene is huge - Psy events/parties etc are hard to come by. Even though Burning Man is just 2 hours from me, it hardly qualifies as a Psy event though the culture is fairly cool up there. The US just doesn't have the scene that there is internationally. Its getting there slowly though, coming along. You're seeing new projects all the time Aerosis (from the Suntrip label) is from Newbury Park CA where I graduated high school, so thats nice to see. But as for clubs or regular hangout spots with a focus on Goa/Psytrance/Techno- you may just want to start one. I have been thinking about doing just that and opening a lounge focusing on Psy/Chillout/Art here in Northern Cali. We will see. Good luck to you my friend - good to see another psyhead here in the states. Peace
  2. Oh yeah, and are there any really great IDM VAs? I'm always interested in checking out quality comps. Peace
  3. Thanks for the suggestions, I recently started listening to The Flashbulb, Plaid & Ametsub - and I'm really digging it. I go in and out with IDM (I do a lot of rotational seasons with Goa-Techno-IDM-Psytrance-Ambient) and right now I'm back into an IDM swing hence the long time since my last venture into this topic. Great stuff though, so thanks for the recos. Question: What were some of the top albums (or stuff I really should give a go) from say, 2004-2007? I'm familiar with a lot of the newer stuff. Hit me with some mid 2000s classics. Cheers from USA
  4. ΛΛ unreal that guy still gets in here was just thinking the other day how much I like not having him around sorry djzen cheers to mars for having to put up with this guy all the time - thanks friend
  5. Oh yeah and also Lord Shiva - A Revolution In Music (2002) Check it out online Can't for the life of me find samples online to share - but its good stuff. 604ever
  6. Great list. I've been listening to this all day: Summamautikka - Umpimahka (2002) [Finland] Discogs and its full of lovely melodies, effects, layers and spacey yummy goodness. Definitely add this to the list. Such good stuff. Who'd have thought Goa-fantastic'ness from Finland? This track is quite nice: http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=XWIwTKzCvRk Cheers 604ever
  7. It struck me while I was filling out my votes for the best of 2009 poll that I have no idea what good VA's for Chillout/Ambient were released last year. Cmon one of you Chill-heads, hit me with the list of the good VAs from 2009. Cheers 604ever
  8. I added my votes but it should be noted that I wanted to select Wi']['ch - The Hypersub Galaxy - Science of Ecstasy Evan Bluetech - Call of the Wild and they were not to be found. Anyway - as always glad to participate. Cheers 2009 Welcome Goa/Psytrance/Ambient 2010! 604ever

  10. Not sure if it will end up being a "best of" candidate, but I've been really enjoying the new EP by Haldolium - Repainted
  11. So 2 months have gone by in 2010 so far and a lot of music has been released already. What do you think is some of the better stuff out there so far? If you want to contribute to the Ekto essential collection list, you can drop your thoughts here Ekto 2010 Some of my initial takes on best releases... VA - Kartuxo (Twilight) Autonomech - I/O (PsyProg) Progenitor - Electro Bite (PsyProg) VA - Parvatrip (Darkpsy) Wizack Twizack - Space No More (Twilight / Darkpsy / Psytrance) SeaMoon - A Twisted Downbeat Adventure (Downtempo) Alienapia - Goapocalipsis (Goa) and for a different flavor altogether (non psy related) Jaga Jazzist - One Armed Bandit (Nu-Jazz / Freeform) Ok, I showed you mine... 604ever
  12. Great list. I have many of those, but need to check out some new ones. Can't get enough of that SA/Twilight/Darkon kind of sound. Very phat - very psy. Much appreciated. 604ever
  13. Amen to that. Can we drop all the freaking drama and like what we like already? (Of course some of you are incapable, as has been proven, but the question is worth asking) The Psy scene is so filled with jerkoffs and trolls fighting in the forums about this and that - it makes me wanna stop listening. For Pete's sake people - just listen to music and stop waring over what to call it. Sheesh... Ok I'm finished <end paroxysm>
  14. I try not to jump into these debates, but this one seems harmless. I do think that "Goa" or maybe better described "Classic Era Psytrance" say from 1995-1999 just for a sample era, does have a very distinct sound. The melodies and repetition were sort of standardized during this time, and I think the label "Goa" probably most appropriately applies to this sound. Some of the classic Hallucinogen, Koxbox, Pleiadians, MFG, Etnica and so on fits this. Newer stuff that tends to experiment, mix in new sounds, new samples, different BPM or drum beats have mixed up classic Psychedelic music into some newer categories of Psytrance. Now we have some wider varieties of Psytrance ala Darkpsy, Progressive, Twilight, Fullon, Suomi and so on - none of which I think sound anything like what most (or lots people) would call Goa. To say they are the same thing or interchangeable I don't think works here. Goa definitely has its sound, and all the newer styles have theirs as well. Of course there is a new arsenal of producers and DJs making new records reproducing the old sound... for example - E-Mantra, Filteria, Alienapia, Liquid Flow, SynSUN, Merr0w & PharaOM to name some. I would personally classify these as distinctly "Goa" or new school Goa - and not a new classification of Psytrance. I've been wrong about many things in my life, and maybe I am again here - this is my 2 cents. In any case... Here is where I think the poll is served best (or better) "Do you prefer the classic style/sound of Goa or the newer breeds of Psytrance?" Its all good music (well mostly Keep dancing and PsyON - (btw my vote goes for Goa, but I listen to a ton of Psy too !) 604ever
  15. That's awful. Shameful... I'd join the vendetta but what could I do? Sorry homie 604ever
  16. A lot of people may say that the new stuff does not carry the magic of the old... but I say bollocks... the new stuff is truly good, complex and carries the spirit of the Old School. Truly enjoyable, memorable, danceable, and trip-able. Great stuff. Thanks for this project. Long live Goa - new or old. 604ever
  17. +1 Loved it - very nice debut - and nice review. Cheers
  18. Hey all Recently (in the last 30 days or so) I purchased brand new an Akai APC40 controller for Ableton Live. Just this last week, unfortunately I lost my job, and am looking for a way to pay some bills. Sad to say, but the APC is a luxury I can not afford. It is for sale, we can discuss price, I am basically looking to get just about what I paid for it back no price gouging or nonsense here. I can email pics or whatever you like - but you should know its absolutely brand new, mint perfect in every way - includes the box, cd, all original packaging materials, power and usb cable. Ships from the USA (Sacramento area California) and you can use Paypal, send me a money order, or just send a check. When everything clears, the item will ship right away. I am on eBay a lot and have a flawless record if you'd like to check my history. I'm honest and there will be no jerking you around. Send email if you are interested to ariscotle@mac.com - ariscotle is also my eBay handle - you'll see me, I'm in Rocklin CA. Cheers to all, and I hope to make some producer or DJ very happy with this awesome piece of gear. Maybe one day when I land a job again, I'll find my way back to it. Have a wonderful day all, contact me any time. Peace -Scot
  19. It's gotten so dirty here, that I may just cancel my psynews account and just focus on listening to music again. What the hell are we doing here anyhow that its come to all this nonsense? And if people would never say a word to any troll, they would lose their power and go home. Sorta like ignoring the school bully who calls you a pussy every day trying to entice you to fight. Stop caring and they will stop posting. On topic - I really do love all the stuff I've heard from Suntrip and I hope they release tons and tons and tons more. I have no real opinion on whether it is classified as this or that or is old or new or whatever, its just music. And it sounds damn good to me. People - just listen to the music and be nice to each other. Life is way too short for all this bollocks. Peace & as always PsyON
  20. @Antic Terranoise is fantastic got the whole catalogue and I'm really digging it Not exactly fullon like you said, but who cares, its good stuff cheers
  21. I'm getting to where I also hate genres/classifications etc But it is true that without some form of general direction, it is hard to find music these days or to even know what you are trying to look for either way - some of the various artists I enjoy: Speedy J - (mostly techno) - a ton of his stuff is good - check out "Loudboxer" and "A Shocking Hobby" Nagual Sound Experiment (usually called dubstep) Evan Marc & Steve Hillage (downtempo/chillout) Pete Namlook & Klaus Schulze (experimental electronic / downtempo) - check out their "Dark Side of the Moog" series Psilodump (couldn't really say what this is but it sounds sorta IDM'ish - its on Demon Tea so know that its messed up in the head) Dusty Kid (newer tech/minimal/progressive sounding stuff - try his new record "A Raver's Diary") La Baaz (the record Clubbrausch is a very nice tech/prog kind of sound) Flying Scorpions (sorta goa sorta psytrance sorta suomisaundi - very different and cool) try the 2003 album "Lippotena Cervi" Sibilant (spacy kinda psy'ish drum & bass sounds) - his album "Proper Filth" is truly nice Cybernetika (the "Atropos" album is also very DNB'ish and psy at the same time - its free on www.ektoplazm.com) thats a little list to start with for now probably could think of more, but those are some artists I really enjoy that fall outside of normal Psytrance fare Enjoy PsyON
  22. That is very high praise indeed. I enjoyed "Portrait..." so maybe I should check out this one. Not sure how quickly I would throw out "greatest book ever written" but this is art we are talking about here and it is always subject to opinion Nonetheless, I will give it a try Currently I'm in the middle of "Walden" for about the (dozenth) time [can't seem to get enough of HDT) But I will check into Joyce soon - I was looking for a next read recommendation anyhow, so thanks And anytime someone is looking for the most fascinating, life-changing, mind-altering, earth-shattering, awe-inspiring read of all times I always highly recommend the Bible. Good day to all, PsyON /and/ ReadON
  23. great stuff again my friend cheers to you and ekto and drumlore and omnitropic for putting melody and harmony and chill and phatness into the world on a regular basis love it peace from Sacto CA USA
  24. sorry mate despite all the commentary here I decided to give it a listen anyway it just comes up short really loose, no particular groove or congruency missing a lot production-wise and the real trouble is that there is not a single track that makes me say (or even think) - DAMN I GOTTA HEAR THAT ONE AGAIN I'm not going to slam you as a person or whatever but I have to be truthful, I just don't think this release has anything of value to offer except of course that you made it - and cheers for contributing music to the world its more than I can say for myself at this point thanks for making music PsyON
  25. For some reason I have not been getting updates on this post since I made it Really glad to see its gotten some traffic. Thanks for all the wonderful suggestions. So many comments as to whether or not this one is "fullon" or not - and thats ok with me I get the general idea. I guess the more energy on a particular release or track the more "fullon" it comes across as No matter to exact labels - I'm just glad to see the participation coming along so well. To add one to my own list I have to say that I recently heard Twisted System - Core VA - South African Vibration Shotu - Conception Cosmo Circle - Never Land Killer Buds vs Xtatic - Killer Instinct Psywalker - Inverted Vertigo Delirious Noon - Launch For Lanctus and really thoroughly enjoyed them all... any other suggestions? please keep em coming. and wherever you are in the world today - Happy Thanksgiving from the USA. PsyON
