  1. I agree that most of the Zenon stuff seems very psy to me. Edgy, trippy, experimental, progressive for sure, but still psychedelic. Big ups to Sensient for a top class label with great artists. @Elysium curious... where do you fall with music from labels like Timecode, Nexus Media, Yabai, Insomnia, Exogenic, Hadra, Glowing Flame? Psytrance or some newer evolved form of something else? Trying to really get a stronger grasp on where you're at with Psy or not. Great topic btw - glad this forum has opened its own path. b00m everyone!
  2. Clearly no one is more qualified than you Exactly my point - I think they used to put out more psychedelic stuff and now its definitely prog.trance.house.pop.commercial etc etc etc that I just don't like Hence my original comment that I thought they were headed in the wrong (or one I don't like) direction b00m
  3. Obviously someone from the label is more qualified than you to say what they are all about. I mean this is not even a question. Your points are taken, my friend. Some people call certain music psytrance that you don't - that's ok. We get it. Can we go back to some top 10 label lists now please?
  4. call it what you like in this forum you will see everywhere references to all the artists and popular releases on Iboga at least here it is meant to mean "progressive psytrance" which is why I refer to them as a psytrance label Of course I understand the difference between progressive trance and psyprog - and I believe that Iboga is starting to lean to the more prog-trance/tech-house/pop-trance side of progressive and I happen to not like it That's ok right? After all this post is supposed to be just a place to list favorite labels - maybe dropping my extra 2 cents with "headed in the wrong direction" was a bad idea Either way I still love some Iboga stuff, but I'm not sure about the new stuff
  5. Cool - thanks for the link! Keep makin music my friend
  6. Not because of trying new things - I'm never against that - but because its going commercial/house/pop and getting away from some of its gritty/progressive roots. Not opposed to new styles and different sounds, but IMO as a psytrance label they are taking a turn for the worse. Just my opinion though.
  7. I must update my list to include Yabai Records Insomnia Records two great ones that have a lot of good stuff coming out lately. All the new SWOG (second wave of goa) labels are pretty nice too Underground Alien Factory Cronomi Sita Ezel-Ebed Space Baby Tranceform cheers to all the great new goa stuff... keep up the good work
  8. Give it a go anyway - it makes it fun having to grind to find a list. That's the sport of it - having to see who makes your cut and who doesn't. In any top 10, there's always deserving 11,12,13 etc that you just have to make the call on. Cmon you can do it! b00m
  9. So sorry - now I see what you mean - those other artists are not in the poll list. I think you could still list a top 10 even if they are not in the list. Curious... you don't have any in your top 10 that are on this list? I'd like to see your list... Peace
  10. This one is just supposed to be a top 10 / favorites list - not intended to be an all inclusive catalogue. Thanks for the link though
  11. And Nervasystem btw, sounds more psy than goa to me (at least on Stardust from 1997) < listening now btw because you brought it up great little ep from them. Definitely has goa qualities, but like I said, the way the term has evolved, a lot of people I think would call this psy even though it is from the jewel of the goa era 1997. Anyway - I am now referring to the old school stuff as Goa, and the new school goa as Swog (second wave of goa) If you like the name, use it - spread it around. Peace and Love and Psychedelic Trance from the USA!
  12. As always no particular order: 1. Antares 2. Goasia 3. Filteria 4. Merr0w 5. E-Mantra 6. Radical Distortion 7. Alienapia 8. Agneton 9. Afgin 10. EVERYTHING ON UNDERGROUND ALIEN FACTORY RECORDS that's my 2 cents anyway. Lots and lots of great new school goa and just to throw it out there - I have started referring to it as SWOG (second wave of goa) If you like it, start using it - maybe it will catch on. Long live Goa, and long Live Swog!! Cheers
  13. I think at first, Goa was just a term for the trance revolution in sound that was happening back then, but it has evolved in its meaning. Really now the term Goa is used in reference to all the very melodic masters of the past like Hallucinogen or Astral Projection, Etnica etc and to all the new producers bringing that sound back to the forefront like Ra, Filteria, E-Mantra, Alienapia etc. A lot of people would say that ShadowFx, Autonomech and OneTastyMorsel are mostly today's progressive (Zenon Prog anyway) and Orichalcum is mostly Psy and Metal Spark gets tagged with Psybreaks (and maybe first to do so) I guess what it boils down to is what you think is or is not Goa - which will be the subject of debate for all time. As for me - I tend to use the whole melodic thing as a way to organize my music library which basically uses Goa - Psytrance - Downtempo (and goa is all melodic, psytrance contains dark, progressive, suomi/freestyle, fullon, twilight & chillout is everything from beatless/drone to psybient etc) Hopefully this clears some air and if not, I'm sure the debate will rage on. Cheers
  14. Truly... and I also forgot TIP Thanks for the reminder. You know how it goes - blasting away on a list and just post it... Next thing you know. Anyway Cheers for participating everyone. Keep it coming
  15. Yeah, it really is a shame that with a resume that includes Behind Blue Eyes Flowjob Antix FREq Ace Ventura Beat Bizarre Phony Orphants Maelstrom and ofc Perfect Stranger that they release that new Snow Flakes VA - which is really commercial pop sounding house trance or something too bad long live better Iboga days
  16. I search for top 10 lists and so on all the time and here on Psynews I have found favorite albums, tracks, djs, festivals etc but I have not seen a good list of top or favorite record labels. As I am always looking for great recommendations, or to see what people are in to, or to spur on a healthy conversation about things I present the Top Psytrance Record Label list (forgive me if this thread exists elsewhere, I just could not find it) My list has a few different angles - and it can look like this Current absolute favorites (a top 10 list) -no particular order, though the top 3 pretty much are at the top for me TOP 10: 1. Timecode 2. Suntrip 3. Zenon 4. Sonic Dragon 5. Hadra 6. Nexus Media 7. D-A-R-K 8. Phototropic 9. Glowing Flame 10. Parvati Classics: Dragonfly Blue Room Released TIP Matsuri Spirit Zone Honorable Mention: Iono Ektoplazm Triplag Nano Digital Psionics Kagdila Antiscarp Underground Alien Factory (though their stock is seriously rising) Headed in the wrong direction: Iboga HOM-Mega Make your list, have some fun, start some conversation, discover new labels and new music, rediscover some classics, be nice to each other - and as always PsyON (PS - I'm really looking for some standout Chillout labels as well (something not called Ultimae - nothing against Ultimae, but I know that one Cheers
  17. When the music is good - I feel like I'm totally transported to some other place with no war, no sickness, do death, no work, no drama, no pain, no bills, no hate, no pollution and NO OTHER NOISE. Just me and the music. Granted, the music has to be good. Goa/Psytrance is the greatest musical experience I've ever had, and I can't get enough. For me the best - Goa Trance from about 94-97 South African / Full-On Night / Twilight Zenon style Progressive Darkpsy ala Tumult, Sigilweaver, Shenanigans This stuff just gets me to the right place. When I close my eyes - I see nothing, just hear and feel the music. PsyON
  18. Thanks for the link, I am well familiar with the Ekto link. I just love getting info from the psy community here and really dig the best of lists THOUGH MORE PEOPLE NEED TO VOTE!! (Mars thats for you) Anyway - cheers to everyone - PsyON
  19. Good tip. Thanks again. Hit up Mars with the idea again. I don't see why they couldn't pin it up at the top of the respective year's reviews page. Great idea.
  20. Thank you my friend. Tell me, how far back does Psynews Best Of go back? Anything behind 2006? Always interested in exploring new music - it helps to have the recommendations. Thanks again - peace. (And yeah "Waves" deserved much better than 34.)
  21. Been looking back through the archives trying to find the best of 2007. Was there one? I found 2006, 2008 and ofc the new 2009. 2007? Cheers all.
  22. Its ok, I won't hold you responsible.
  23. From my experience just about every movie I see with a club scene or whatever, its always super commercial club trance garbage. And I always think to myself "I wish these movies would put some good music in the club/party scenes - this movie would be so much better" But alas you always get Tiesto or Van Buuren or whatever is on mtv at the time. Sad...
  24. PHYLUM SINTER - FROM UNITY TO SEGMENTATION (IDM) - [En:peg Digital 2009] Discogs Decided to change it up today. This one is very chill, very moody, very glitchy and still smooth. Really digging it.
  25. Goa Trance - Techno - IDM - Psy Trance - Ambient
