  1. obviously it was indeed it got moved I guess
  2. I was trying to make a point cocnerning the separation between "casual" music (which I just get from batport, put on the mp3 player, play some times and that was it) and masterpieces, which I'd get on vinyl to listen at home. I'd not want the next full on compilation on vinyl. And even the usual progressive psy is already getting kinda repetitous, so I wouldn't want that on vinyl either. These two examples are perfect for beatport. Why? Because in the times we live it more and more often occurs that on compilations only two or three tracks are really good and the rest is just mediocre ... well, in this case beatport is ideal for you - just buy the three good tracks and leave the rest aside and pay only for the good stuff! I wouldn't want this mediocre stuff on vinyl, it would be a shame! And the two-page inlet (inlet, not booklet, note that!) I can do without in that case... The core point to critisize is that the really good stuff, such as Matenda - Natural Development for example, doesn't get released on vinyl anymore! But this stuff for example would be of the kind that I'd put on my record player at home - with crystal clear warm sound ... and oh yes, I look through the inlet aswell here... These cases are where I go buy the release in hardware and would not go to beatport. But industry thinks market-oriented and there are just too few of us vinyl lovers...
  3. that's actually true as well ... but it's not so bad yet .. and I like the idea of beatport and such, no shipping times and all that ... when I have a job and earn good money I'll have an ipod-like thing as well where I load up all the new stuff directly from beatport... but Vinyl is something totally different to that ... the music from beatport would be for casual listening on the portable player, cool and efficient, but the vinyls, that's something special only for listening at home, no disturbances, only sound ... warm, clear, soothing! I'd also not play them often to not wear them off. But this way they'd last until I'm a hundred years old... But anyway, that's all not really that relevant anymore as vinyls are getting more and more scarce But despite the bad news concerning new releases on vinyl, there's still good news concerning the old stuff! This Saturday it will take place again: record convention in vienna! That means once again going through loads of huge cardboard boxes with the fresh smell of cellar and attics all over and maybe, after an hour of searching through a heap of total junk, finding the one or the other gem of old electronic ambient such as early Tangerine Dream or Jean Michel Jarre for a price that you'd not even get a decent newspaper for nowadays ... THAT'S the spirit, man ... look around, there's something like that in almost every town for sure
  4. Well, a real 100% live set is what you'll see when you go to an unplugged concert. Even in the metal scene it is common to run some layers like big choruses, instruments like arctic horns or whatever complex synth layer from a recorder in the back despite that the main instruments such as guitars and drums and keyboards are played totally live. It's just about the reason why you go to a gig. I don't go because I want to see a totally technically skiled live set. Such things are cool, but since it's very difficult to do things live it's quite seldom. The main reason for me to go when some psy artist comes and plays a gig here is to hear his sound! It's at such gigs where you might hear some unreleased treasures or new versions of tracks right off the HD of the laptop of the composer! And that's what I'm after! If the sound is good and the "live act" does at least a bit to keep it a bit dynamic (like this "only one synth layer live"-technique) and doesn't just press play on the lappy that's all I'm looking for. And so far I had the impression that every live act I saw until now did it like that. I sometimes also walked up and asked them and that's mostly what they said, that they had a prerecorded set and played a synth layer here or rearranged a bit there And even if it was all fake from Astal (which I don't believe, the guys were not drunk and they were not just standing around doing nothing), I enjoyed it big time! And that's actually all that counts. And at least I was very happy to enjoy a bit (at least a bit) more of the old stuff than they play on other sets nowadays and not only new and boring remixes (like buzzman said) with maybe People Can Fly thrown in once ... these guys made me finally "understand" oldschool, even if it was just for a few songs
  5. Oh man ... freshly pressed, previously unplayed vinyl has an unbeatable sound quality! A pity there's not much vinyl coming out anymore, everybody releasing on CDs... The last time I saw a Technics SL-whatever on a psy party was probably four years ago - and even there they only used the CDJs
  6. Well, I "know" him as an artist as I have seen him spinning maybe already three times back some years a go in the beginning of my psytrance phase ... but I've never spoken a word with him I would talk to him if I saw him spinning again, but he seems to be on house music now and I've not encountered him on any psy party again... do you know him?
  7. Huh? That's quite wrong. Us men are not more creative than women. The only thing you can say is that women have a different creativity because their brain works a bit differently... But just that female creativity, this rather warmer and more balanced type of stuff (doesn't apply to everything though) is what I like! More females in psy!
  8. I saw Astral Projection live this year. Had the luck that they played a little bit more older stuff than they do usually in their sets nowadays (judging from other AP live reviews on here) as I saw them, which was quite an experience as I've not listened to old school goa trance live before that. But well, of course they played much new stuff as well. And I gotta tell you, I've never felt the difference between the old stuff and the new stuff as much and as significant as in that set, despite that I like the Open Society track. The new stuff has not even half the power than the old stuff... But anyway, if you have not seen them before then go for it! It's a nice experience, they are cool guys and I doubt the music will get much better in the future, so if the ticket price doesn't make you bankrupt I'd strongly suggest to go, you surely won't regret it ... it's Astral Projection, man about the websites I'd advise what Rez said, it's my main source for party infos ... although it must be admitted that this website has its main focus on Germany, Austria and Switzerland...
  9. obviously they are indeed
  10. I saw only Ian Ion alone doing a Koxbox/Saiko Pod live set because Frank E was ill. But it was still a two people live set as fortunately they've got our local DJ Acan to help out and play Frank's part That was years ago. Still haven't seen Koxbox again. But I definitely want to! oh and yeah, this was one of the coolest lives I've ever been to because it was my first one
  11. Good, good! I'll get salary really soon! Fits perfectly
  12. oh please dig through them, I'd be very interested in the list I don't have any special requests though
  13. there is no such thing as a silver and a golden age IMO granted, the oldschool stuff was amazing and it's not played much anymore but if you keep your eyes and especially your ears open you'll see and hear that there is a lot of good stuff around at all times ... it migh only be less known just as there also exists bad stuff at all times ... I'm sure not all of the oldschool stuff was good an example for the fact that there's still good music around: I just discovered Pusherstreet ... and I love that stuff ... no, it's no "goa" sound, but it's good music
  14. dude, I'm from AUSTRIA, a really small country looked upon to be quite "rural" around the world because our whole country has about as much inhabitants as one of those giant big cities in the US ... if they play this here it's definitely played in a bunch of other cinemas around the world as well. Just keep your eyes open, it's not advertised big
  15. Saturn (a big electronics supermarket chain) always had the newest Goa Head volume. Also they have fairly many CDs from Yellow Sunshine Explosion. In the past they also had Spirit Zone releases, I remember prelistening the Beat-ific compilation at Saturn (the prelistening option was cool in the past, you could listen to the whole CD practically as long as you want ... now they have another system though).
  16. Well, Jean Michel says that everything is done live in the video. And I really don't think these guys need attention badly so that they fake around, this is highly professional sound and highly professional players. I got the impression that pretty much everything is done live. At least people play constantly on synths, maybe some sub-layer that only consists of a few sounds was programmed or recorded readily and just a button needed to be pressed and not every note played manually, but the rest I'm pretty sure that they did live ... at least more than 90%. And I also don't think there was any after-mastering or any cosmetics as they did the recording live in front of an audience (only special guests AFAIK), so I'm quite sure they did all that you can see and hear in that video live. I'm only speaking about my impressions though. Otto, if you buy the DVD, be sure to see it first on a big screen, I think this is a must. I won't buy the DVD anyway, can't imagine this really having the special sound atmosphere and overwhelming 3D image quality that I had the pleasure to experience. That synth in the cinema room above the audience with Jean Michel's hand practically reaching into the room to twist knobs on it ... I'll never forget that ... and I'm sure you can never have this at home in that way...
  17. SHIT, THAT JARRE CLIP YOU POSTED WAS A PART IN THE SHOW! EXACTLY THIS ONE! Only that it's not 3D... People, watch that, that is what I saw! The whole album in that style! Thank you, thank you, thank you! Now I have something to show friends But concerning the other dude you mention ... it's not about the skills, my dear devious, it's about the unique atmosphere and the wonderful sound! I don't care that much about skills, there are better players than Jarre. But the atmosphere is uniquely brillant!
  18. Oh man, I just got home from this amazing show You might know it or you might not know it, but Jean Michel Jarre will release a 3D DVD with a film of the newly recorded version of his first album Oxygene on it. The release date is 30th November, according to Amazon and the release will be called Jean Michel Jarre - Oxygene 3D, Live In Your Living Room. I already saw this piece, just an hour ago - in a CINEMA! Yeah, that's right, they let the DVD "release party" take place in form of one - and only one - showing of the piece in a 3D cinema here in my town. And a friend of mine and me, we had tickets! It was amazing. The point is, the DVD shows 3D film footage of a live recording of the Oxygene album. A complete live recording with all of the old equipment! And since it's really a total live performance Jarre also doesn't play alone. "I recorded this piece on an 8 track recorder back then, so you need also 8 hands to play it live" says Jarre in the beginning ... and yes indeed, it's him and 3 other people playing the whole Oxygene album live in one go. Granted, it's practically just a DVD recording, but the fact that the film footage of the gentlemen playing was shown on a big 3D cinema screen and the 5.1 surround sound was coming from the professional cinema sound system really made this an experience I didn't want to miss. I heard sound layers I never heard before - well, how should I, all I own is a very old Oxygene vinyl from the 1970s, no sound overkill back then. The film footage just shows the dudes playing, but even that is an experience since they really do it on the old equipment, meaning sometimes they gotta tweak knobs on boxes practically as big as my cupboard. And sometimes the 3D effect is used in a nice way that especially comes good on the big cinema screen - sometimes it looked like the synth was in the room above the first few rows and Jean-Michel practically reaches into the room to twist a knob ... really cool. And also other instruments he used ... really, really worth watching. But it's IMHO only worth watching on a BIG screen and on a professional sound system! I will not buy this DVD, never, it would only ruin the good overwhelming experience I had and I'm not keen to see this all on a small TV screen even if it was 3D ... this could never come close to cinema! My mate liked it a lot as well, he's a big Jarre fan just like me. Although he thought there'd be more 3D effects such as visuals. There are practically no visuals. The dudes play in front of a visual screen, but you see it rarely. But I didn't miss visuals, it was a pleasure for me to see these guys playing live on all this old equipment and all so alive on this big 3D screen with awesome sound. Totally, totally, totally worth the money! The point is, there were not too many people around either (big big cinema room, only 25% full if at all), so it had even an intimate atmosphere although it was in a cinema. So if this ever is in your town GO SEE IT! IT'S A MUST! And keep your eyes open, this is not advertised big. It took place in a very big commercial cinema here and even though they hardly advertised it except for two little posters in the main lobby outhyped by all the other cupboard stuff of the other films. Have a look out, this is totally worth watching especially in a cinema! And if you can't see it in cinema, go buy the DVD
  19. Another one bites the dust. Although I don't care too much about Spun. But the statement on psyreviews is quite good. Hits the nail.
  20. right. chill. let the artists take their time and the final result will only get better. but what if you are run over by a truck in three months and it comes out in four months? that's called bad luck. (I'm waiting for an album too, bro. Really bad. REALLY BAD. I don't even want to say which one, every time I want to mention it my mouth cramps itself into a scream. So you know how bad it is.)
  21. Bangin' progressive? Stuff that makes you shake your arse? I can think of: Ticon - Texas Magnusson ... DAMN YES! Atmos - Luxor ... it's the bassline, baby Chris Pointdexter - Darkness ... I prefer the original, some swear on the Ticon Remix ... try both, this is a gem Sonic Cube - Subminimal (Sonnenvakuum Online Remix) ... a real good one for the ass shakers oh and I second the mention of Tegma - No Time
  22. that's the spirit!
  23. Real traditional austrian music is something I quite dislike. But there's a cool and innovative duo who mix traditional austrian music elements with modern sounds: ATTWENGER. I'm a really big fan of them because they like to play around with sounds and language in a good way. Add an edge of left wing political vibe and weed smoke and you have a full concert hall with everything from punks to hippies in the audience who all dance to the same humppa beat ATTWENGER! listen to that stuff, these boys can make really cool music http://www.myspace.com/attwenger
  24. yeah, just what I always say: bring that psy shop list back on, mars, please, will ya? A few updates from some of the users here about local shops they know and it could be a really good resource without much work...
