  2. Artist: Downhill Title: Silent City Label: Gravity Plus Records Date: 2003 1. Three Years Drought 2. Perfect Man 3. Ed Lab 4. Ground Effects 5. Final Miles 6. Silent City 7. 33 Degrees 8. Weaken Memories 9. Perfect Man (Human) 10. Silent City (Soundtrack) The Delta + Midi Miliz = Awwww....Yeah. This hit me just right. Post dinner with a full belly. Do you like the raw quality of the Delta? Love an industrial, dirty sound? All while...chilling? Then this is the album for you. Tracks like Ed Lab have a funky cool breakbeat and that eerie feel permeates the entire album. It's like I'm tooling around Gotham after I stole Batman's whip. The cover is the color of overcast skies with the dreary melancholy to match. A cold, electronic ride that invites further listens. The melodies and percussion come together to provide a super listening experience. Dig on this.

  5. Artist: Bioscape Title: Living Connection Label: Gliese 581cz Date: March, 2014 1. Mountaintop Meditation (66 BPM) 2. Shaolin Cosmos (60 BPM) 3. Not All Who Wander Are Lost (95 BPM) 4. Underwater Bliss (75 BPM) 5. Explore The Night (90 BPM) 6. Biological Harmonies (90 BPM) 7. Everyday Places & Natural Spaces (75 BPM) 8. Amphibian Dreams (90 BPM) 9. Nature Essence (80 BPM) 10. Storm Comfort (80 BPM) 11. Creation Dub (72 BPM) 12. Living Connection (75 BPM) Reason number 572 why music is better than a baloney sandwich: just because it's old doesn't mean it goes bad. This is Andrew Dyche from Atlanta, GA who is in the business of creating downtempo and ambient chill music for your morning cup of coffee. And business is good. Even though Ektoplazm is undergoing what seems to be an eternal rebirth the links are still active, with plenty of music to discover and sample. This was Andrew's debut and as he navigates between the styles of downtempo music I can't help but be overcome with a sense of calm. Deeply relaxing and well produced music which soothes jangled nerves. The production sounds great and it's physically impossible to be stressed when listening to this. Most tracks are medium in length so they don't fall into the pitfall of overlong repetition. And while that is a selling point (clearly not selling if it's free) he doesn't reinvent the wheel. And that's ok. The dubby bass is prevalent in almost all the tracks, but the star of the show is all the music around that bass. The whole vibe is about slowing things down and seeing all the life in its myriad of forms which surround us, Frogs, birds, insects...The connection. There is some filler and he seems stuck in an algorithm with the way the tracks are constructed. A whole album of similar tracks at this tempo lends itself to becoming becoming background music. A pretty decent album that you can put on and relax. Maybe you're down for a nap or it's that first cup in the morning. Ektoplazm

  10. Artist: Nibana Title: Earth From Above Label: Self-released Release date: June 1st, 2018 Its hard to want to compliment this album. On hand it deserves all the praise that it deserves, Every moment is filled with emotion that takes you on a journey from start to finish. On the other hand, I find it awkward to praise something that comes from a place of loss and pain. But on listen after listen I find the album to have less to do with pain and more to do with the beauty of life. Kevin has shared his recent journey with his late father to the world and it feels strange for me to give it the glowing review I think it deserves. Maybe I’m overthinking it. So less thinking more typing. Mind in a shell: A beautiful track with fat synths that fill every inch of every space in the room. The talking at the start is completely well placed, a theme we are gonna discover throughout the album. Earth From Above: Another powerful composition that brought me to the brink of tears. Emotions I haven’t thought to seek out from music flood through me as the journey continues up and up. The intensity builds and builds, it just won't stop. Perfect When Comes the Pain: 'Oh shit it's gonna be a sad track'. No, nothing but, nothing but beauty from start to finish. Moonset: Another emotion laden track, slightly more reserved than the others but executed just as well. A Dive into Ether: An intense intro leads us to a more intense track which I never want to end. The 4:40 break is simply too good to describe... Alright I'll try. Ethereal, enigmatic, deep AND not actually a break, just a great, lovely outro. Gods From The Machine: Hot damn can he give me at least one thing to criticise? Nope, not gonna happen, I'd call this a favourite but every track here is. A little faster and more optimistic than the rest of the album, another beauty. Legacy (With Suduaya): Oh shit, he had to go bring Sudu onto a track and it works like a charm. More optimistic still and more covered with beautiful beautiful human emotions. Thus we leave (Ft. Isabella Fabric): Nibana and Isabella prove that through the pain of losing someone close to you, comes a beauty that is a life lived. A life of experiences, connections, creations and belonging. The track itself is my favourite on the album. From where it starts to where it finishes, just wowie. Give me a live band performance please. I maintain the Ancient Greek outlook on death, that dying well is just another aspect to living the good life and a noble thing to be able to achieve. That being said I’ve never lost a loved one to sickness and until this album haven’t been able to picture myself in that situation. Kevin has granted me access into that world and shown me a a range of emotions that I have not been privy to until now. Interesting enough the album takes a more upbeat angle towards the end. Nibana's musical diversity is pretty outstanding and now I can add to that, in that he has a remarkable ability to portray emotion through music. I love every piece of dubby, psybient art that Nibana gives us, but I love this album the most. Big thanks to Kevin for releasing this. https://nibana.bandcamp.com/album/earth-from-above
  11. Artist: Kalya Scintilla Title: Dance The Spiral Never Ending Label: Merkaba Music Date: January, 2012 01 - Rises In The East (80 BPM) 02 - Whomp Shanti (85 BPM) 03 - Bone & Stone (70 BPM) 04 - The Sands Of Grime (90 BPM) 05 - Break Belief Bounce (feat. Alice Spacedoll) (100 BPM) 06 - Listen With Your Heart (70 BPM) 07 - Caravan Planet (100 BPM) 08 - Swaggered (104 BPM) 09 - Way Of The Tarot (95 BPM) 10 - The Velvet Squish (70 BPM) 11 - Dance The Spiral Never Ending (feat. Alice Spacedoll) (105 BPM) "I'm all about that bass, bout that bass, no treble!" Get it big guy. Smooches! "Sure I could get up at dawn..." "Go to a job I hate that does not inspire me creatively, for the rest of my life..." "Or I could wake up at noon and learn how to play the sitar." F*ck you Daisy you can have that little mouse d*ck motherf*cker. Take Asian melodies, some oh so juicy bass, and throw in random glitchy electronic swagger and you've got this album. Originally released in 2012 it is now being offered freely by your favorite free music site. I think this guy loves him some weed based on sample usage and track titles. The album itself is a great mix of ethnic acoustic instruments and the ever present wobbly bass. But it's not just bloops and bleeps around a bass line. I mean that's in there, but there are melodies and intricate layers as well. Some of the coolest things I found in here were drum loops from songs you've heard on the radio. The track lengths are also kept fairly short (none reach 6 minutes) to keep the listener from burn out. Pun intended. Free at Ektoplazm Mdk

  13. It's been six years since the demiurgic duo of shamans, better known as Shamanizm Parallelii introduced their creative work on our label with Psychedelic Dreams album. In the meantime they released two more full-lenght albums with Neogoa and Ae Records (The World In A Drop Of Rain in 2014. and Tales From Colored Tepee in 2016.) and gained attention within psychill circles and community. Now in 2018. they're back with 11 freshly crafted tracks on their 6th studio album - Blue Lizard. Music of Pavel and Arkadii is distinct, but yet very challenging to define with one word, especially on Blue Lizard where they improved their own game of pushing it into the unknown. Sometimes it's oozing with joyful psyrock riffs and late '60s nostalgia, sometimes it explores strange sounds and serves as a soundtrack to deep and immense space. But most of the time it's colorful and trippy downtempo music with a lot of heart and passion. Available in all digital formats here: https://neogoarecords.bandcamp.com/album/blue-lizard Tracklist: 01 - The Blue Lizard 02 - Coyote 03 - Vibrations Of Transformed Consciousness 04 - The Last Trip Of The Ashes Down The Ganges 05 - Apocalypse On Time 06 - In Search Of No Name Captain 07 - Trip Zone 08 - The Mechanical Side Of Time 09 - Dogs, Ghosts And Lots Of Curry 10 - Radio Asia 11 - The White Shaman All tracks written and produced by: Pavel Yashan (vocals, guitars and lyrics) and Arkadii Tronets (synths, drums, mixing and mastering). 14. Having a blast working in lower tempos, new sounds and emotions. This was made as a friday morning jam, bathing in the early rays of sun Made another one this morning, I'm feeling inspired now that spring finally has come to Sweden After many months of snow and freezing temperatures it has now been really nice for around two weeks! Feedback is always welcome, especially on the mixing.

  16. Artist: Maiia Title: Shining Dragon Label: Mystic Sound Records Date: March, 2017 1. Tale About the Shining Dragon 2. Princess From the North 3. Natural Energy (Album Mix) 4. Maiia303 - Electric Particles (Maiia GoaChill Remix) 5. Microcosmos (Instrumental Mix) 6. Fusion Age (Album Mix) 7. Eastern Saloon 8. Strawberry Lassy (Album Mix) 9. The Great Bear (Album Mix) 10. Kurbeats - Phony Phony (Maiia Remix) Yes, very interesting. This is Alla Vagner who should be familiar to all who frequent this forum based on her 2014 release Sky In Diamonds on Ovnimoon Records. It was a pleasant surprise and a breath of fresh air to hear the organic sound melded with goa trance. Sure it 's been done before, but man did she do it well. She gets right after it with the goa tinged breakbeat track Tale About the Shining Dragon and Natural Energy. I believe that she is the female equivalent to Hardfloor. Funky breakbeats layered with that saucy 303 riding shotgun. It's truly body moving music with eerie tones layered over top. Mysterious at times, but always engaging with plenty of tribal affects. Check out Strawberry Lassy...lots of Shponglese going on there. She keeps the tracks relatively short for maximum freshness. While not as eye opening as Diamonds, it nonetheless doesn't fail to impress. Mystic Sound Records Bandcamp

  18. Artist: Saluberrimae Title: Time Is A Flat Circle Label: Neogoa Records Date: March, 2017 01 - Trapped Inside (95 BPM) 02 - Jesenné Prebúdzanie Do Letného Rána (80 BPM) 03 - Jennifer Connelly (80 BPM) 04 - Time Is A Flat Circle (70 BPM) 05 - Loophole (70 BPM) 06 - The Abyss (95 BPM) 07 - Čiernobiela (70 BPM) 08 - Frozen (110 BPM) 09 - Večerná Ciga Na Balkóne (80 BPM) 10 - Gestonkenflapped (70/140 BPM) "I had a dream last night when I woke up, I remembered it but...just a moment ago...huh. It's gone" The downtempo/psychill side project of Lukáš Bartošek (Goatree) is a nice mix of dub, chill, and ethnic music with real instruments. There is so much to unpack here with a bunch of great ideas. A lot of the tracks have a repetitive phrase which brings a sci-fi feel as if big brother is watching. Very mechanical and sets the stage well. The title track is a pensive thinker that exhibits a slow, hypnotic burn. Loophole has a slow awakening like a beast being preparing for a strike. Čiernobiela has a post apocalyptic feel with a ponderous hip-hop beat. Reminded me of NIN Reptilian. Frozen turned into an industrial influenced crawl with a very throaty 303. Was that a bit of Southern guitar licks on track 9? Felt like a hot summer day on the Mississippi delta. So what it does, it does well. While I liked the ideas unfortunately a few did not realize their potential. Either there wasn't enough evolution or the great bits didn't last long enough. The jazzy elements in tracks 2 and 3 just weren't for me. It's good music and I like where he's going, but for the above reasons it misses greatness. But just.
  19. Artist: Blue Lunar Monkey Title: Here & Now Label: Tycho Records Date: April, 2011 1. Anahatha 2. Oneness 3. Guerreros Arcoirirs (feat. Deva Sofia, Rupesh Anand) 4. Two Vines (Ayahuasca) 5. We are connected (feat. Wendy Stock) 6. Metta 7. You're not alone (feat. Wendy Stock) 8. Dissolution 9. Here and Now (Ethernal rmx) "You see we all know what reality is, but we cannot describe it." Reality is two kids that want your attention 24-7. A Jeep that works when it wants to and a dryer that doesn't. Reality is having me and my daughter puke our guts out and then next night having my wife and son take their turn. When the dryer doesn't work and kids are puking things get real. I could use a little unreality. Now here's one that probably flew under a lot of people's radar. Daniel Gradilla from Mexico has released one of the most relaxing albums I've heard in a while. This is chock full of soft melodies and gentle percussion. Dubby bass and real world instruments are all over this thing while samples speak of the mind and reality. This is sit on the beach and watch the tide roll in type music. It's slow pace and head nodding goodness will give you that Calgon take me away feeling. Most of the tracks are fairly long allowing plenty of new leads and melodies to take shape. The light strum of a guitar and sounds of nature are extremely calming. Recommended. Muezzin These 2 brothers are of one mind and that mind has a mission to create psychedelic trance soaked in goa elements. Their debut album is a great example with layered tracks that don't hover in one place for long. It's not just full steam ahead and the nuances are quite enjoyable. Their talent for genre mixing is on full-display and I'm impressed with the atmosphere they create. The album is a bit of an uneven effort with some filler near the end, but they show good signs of depth and dynamism with their music. And they got better with their 2nd release Wave Shell. Ottesen offers up a compendium of previously released tracks, remixes, and special album edits. His last album Time Is Now was pretty damn good so like a good psy and ambient listener I like to check in with Ektoplazm from time to time. With this release (under two project names) he's all over the downtempo and chill map. The music is smooth and relaxing (loved Another Orbit Around The Sun) with plenty of detail to keep your attention. Don't believe me? Homie made a track with a bpm of 70.6! Precision. He picks up the pace at times with breakbeat tracks like the shimmering Wait For It which then becomes a pretty formidable goa track. The tracks are short for the most part, but far from snacks. I didn't find one track that I didn't enjoy and the last half of the album I'd say is a slow drift through the silence of space. Well worth a listen. Free at Ektoplazm
