Hi everybody Since I discovered Psychedelic Trance, there are approximately 1-2 years I have never ceased to observe what I had observed in the Hardcore scene, Industrial, Rock,...etc : there are so many styles and sub-styles that it becomes a mess to find a way and we sometimes end (or even often) to nonsensical debates about how we will appoint or not appoint, define or not define, this or that music or this or that style. Obviously, if you find an ugly lack of agreement/spelling well hidden in the bushes, an incomplete definition, or one of your prefered style/artist thatsmasheseverythingbutreallyeverything that is not referenced, feel free to sh*t in my face please let me know, it will be corrected in the shortest possible time if need there. Master Margherita - Blue Fish (Sunrise Mix) Afro Dots is a very ambitious album - twenty-two tracks long with a meandering spirit that crosses several different styles of mid-tempo and down tempo styles before its journey is over. Naturally, with so many tracks in the offering, there is a lot of throw-away material here, approximately half of the tracks by my estimation. These filler tracks are mostly droning, experimental, uninteresting bridges to the album's better and more memorable moments. What is contained in those memorable moments is an album almost split into thirds - one-third techno, one-third down tempo, one-third dub. In fact, for an album mostly marketed as down tempo the first third of the album - and the first third of great music - is techno masquerading as down tempo. Some of it is dirty ("Sync Mode (Midi Mix)"), some of it is dark and rhythmic (the remix of Kliment's "3db") and some of it is pure beauty where well-known classical is married creatively to some dance-friendly techno (the remix of [De]composer - Etude Simple II "Aleksej" - one of the best on the album.) "Bump Ride," another mid-tempo gem, encapsulates Master Margherita's nice progressive psy flavors. The acoustic guitar and didgeridoo performance from Mr. Pink and Elvis Lobo, however, are the gems of this one. The sum of its awesome work speaks more to Margherita's overall vision for good and groovy music rather his ability to do it alone. Nice collaboration on this one. The invigorating hand-drumming and riotously infectious guitar strings of "Freude," co-produced with Ermetico, ushers in the fine down tempo moments of Afro Dots, with another equally effective moment in the same style cropping up at the end of the album playlist on the heavenly bliss of "Sei Otto (Hibernation Remix)." The dub segment of this album shows Master Margherita saving the best for last. Here the slow-rolling head-bobbing excellence of his dub style offers up gems on "Tyrel Dub (Belgaroth Mix)," an excellent remix of Grouch's "Indifference," a dark yet magical number filled with addictive female spoken word on "Spirit Dub (Ghost Mix)" and a co-produced beauty made with The Positronics on the delicious "Scrumptious (Shorcake Mix)." Afro Dots is a pretty long album and for half of its time it is not particularly interesting. However, with a little bit of careful editing, what is left is half an album of eleven stylistically varied and very well executed musical ideas. It is a gorgeous marriage between some great synthetic beats and some even better live instrumentation. It may be only half a great album, but what a great half that turns out to be. Bandcamp

Wharf "I have made this album during winter time in Denmark and everyone that knows the danish winters knows that it can feel like a little ice age, which is exactly what Maunder Minimum was." - Martin Spanner Zimmerman, Beat Bizarre Martin's own question at the end of that quote was, "Maybe you can even feel some of the cold in the music?!" Maybe, but not too likely. Maunder Minimum is some pretty warm and optimistic music. Beat Bizarre has always been a very fine purveyor of techno, making his take on the genre a bit more creative than most others, with results that come across as much smoother and classier than his peers. Maunder Minimum, however, takes the Beat Bizarre classiness, the Beat Bizarre smoothness, and raises his art to a whole new level of elegance. By combining relaxed and grooving techno with relaxed and grooving afternoon progressive psy the results are lovely and very much on the order of Minilogue and Son Kite. As with those techno and progressive psy legends, Beat Bizarre melts the borders of genre classification and comes up with a monstrous twenty tracks worth of material, with results that are sometimes techno, sometimes progressive, sometimes not so easily defined, but definitely of the utmost quality. When asked, Martin says, "I really don´t want to put myself in a genre box. I make the type of music that I feel like and that can change from day to day. Even if I had to choose a genre, I wouldn´t know which one that´ll suit me best. I mean, this new album streches over at least four different genres and even then I find a similarity in the tracks. For me it´s about making the music you love and not so much about following today's trends." The beginning of this lengthy trip contains some fine gems, such as "Alternative Realitys," the techno-heavy "Connect The Dots," the sunny bounce of "Cultural Dumping" and the uber-groovy trippiness of "Infobesity." Late in the album, quite pleasingly, not a single filler track is to be found as more smooth and classy productions, such as, "Terra Incognita," "VeloCity" and the excellent "Wharf," await. The strengths of Maunder Minimum are very dependent on the time of day when they are heard. The earlier, the better, when one's personal hustle-and-bustle cannot interfere with the intricacies of the music, where the subtle energetic sounds of this Beat Bizarre master work are not forced to compete with any stressful outside influences. There is magic aplenty in this collection but not allowing the tracks their own time and place only serves an injustice to them. When asked if twenty tracks, easily two albums worth of material, was too much and if he was concerned with running out of ideas, Martin said, "It could have been longer, but I saved some tracks for another time. I´m more concerned that I will miss some of my ideas in the making. The inspiration can come to me from almost anything and anywhere. Even when you least think it, an idea just pops up in your head and you need to capture it somehow. That can be quite a challenge. But mostly the ideas come when I sit in the studio and just have fun playing around with all types of sounds and music genres. I don´t think that twenty tracks is too much for one album, if the twenty tracks don´t all sound the same. "I really very seldom listen to the type of music I make myself but I have to mention a few electronic names that have inspired me for this album. They would be Son Kite/Minilogue, James Monro, Extrawelt, Pan-Pot, Atmos." Credit him then for accomplishing a very lengthy piece of magic, at twenty tracks long, that never feels like it is sticking around much longer than it should be. Also, with that impressive list of influences, not a single track in this album sounds like a copy-cat but instead stand as very much equals to much of the sounds, moods and creativity within the canon of any of those artists. It's psychedelic trance with a techno spirit and you would think that with artists like Tim Schuldt and Cydonia there would be some engrossing tracks. Something evolving with twists and turns. Alas no. All of the tracks seem to drone on in an endless march towards the end of a cliff. I suppose it's ok for the first 30 seconds, but when you start looking to see how much time is left on each track it's not a good sign. Keep it moving people, nothing to see here. Mdk

hi Guys I had less than a week in which to write and produce a electro track using only the samples provided by the organiser ( function loops ). This was a challenge to get this done time and the prize will certainly be worthwhile should I win. Anyone know the name of this track? I've been searching on Discogs to no avail. https://clyp.it/k3qleh1y I'm not sure how to classify this. It starts off sounding very much like acid techno with it's thumping 909 kick and 909 snare... but then the pads come in with the distorted Goa riff making it sound a bit more like Goa trance. The sound clip was taken from this video: Any help would be much appreciated

You know the adage " the whole being greater than the sum of its parts " doesn't apply more fittingly to any other thing than a good electronic music set . imo atleast ! so lets get everybody's favorite set down here for our listening pleasures .. There have been really good ones like Anoebis' 1994 mix which i have been listening to a lot , i discovered some tunes that i had not heard before ( and more to come i guess! ). What i really like about good sets is that it brings more life to individual tracks than if you hear them in isolation. dunno if you all feel the same way and even albums that play out like a DJ set are much more enjoyable . I still havent heard a grinding set that has had me swaying from the word go till the end .. Lets hear them !
