MODEM FESTIVAL 2015 (Momento Demento) Welcome to MODEM 2015! - If you are here already, that is probably because you are as excited as we are about the next edition! We have moved the date little from last year to help accommodate more people at an easier time of year, so for 2015 the festival will be held between the 19-24 of AUGUST. Just like every year, we have already been working on the next edition for many months - Managing the logistics of such a demanding site is a very large and complicated job, but we still feel it is one of the most beautiful locations we could ever have for a festival, and continue with our efforts to improve all areas of the site - We want to make your stay with us as comfortable as possible while still maintaining that raw natural feeling of being out in the forest or by the lakes. V-Storm - Survivor Who's ready for some full-on? F*ck yeah Manchester! Anyone? Look I know it's not cool to listen to this type of psytrance. The vast majority of it is formulaic and derivative getting nowhere like a three legged dog. So yeah...not cool. Like bumping some Billy Squier at your kids high school. In a jean jacket. Leaning on a camaro. What a loser. But I have to hop between subgenres lest I get burned out and fed up. For that reason I'm all over the place. Think of me as a teacher. Just...with a lot more F word. The rule for me is to never dismiss anything out of hand as you certainly could miss something. And if you piss on this you'll miss out on some pretty good tracks. Wrecked Machines and the Zen Mechanics Remix straddle the psy/progressive line with good, bouncy tracks with some delicate touches. Great opening salvo which is unfortunately wasted after the Quantic Fusion and Cyrus the Virus diversions that remind me you can put a silk hat on a full on compilation, but yadda yadda yadda. With the soft vocal tacet on The Persuaders I had to grow a Taliban beard and yell at my wife for driving a car just to make sure I was a man. Commercial Hit is just that a commercial euphoric trance track full of melodies and bouncy acid leads. The whole thing is very shiny. And while I felt let down by the Suria track (no depth, just straight ahead), the Freaked Frequency one was varied and the V-Storm closer was a powerful punch in the gut. So it starts out very well, takes a nap in the middle, and then shines a bright, full-on light in your face before rattling some windows. Not bad. But a deep impact...I think you're reaching there. It's hard and aggressive (at times being an all out bombastic assault) with ample metallic sounds and cool samples. If you think the South African sound is all over this then give yourself a cookie. MMD is that label from the dark continent not named Timecode or Nexus Media. This album is perfect for when you wanna get all aggro and break some sh*t. Girlfriend slept with your best friend? It is for my money one of the best psytrance tracks from Boris and quite possibly my favorite of all time. Luckily that Skazi nightmare has yet to be wrought upon us and we could easily just download the one we want from Beatport. Of course this album is not just a one hit wonder with almost equally brilliant stuff from CPU (yes, that one), Space Tribe of course, and an acidic choon from Theoreme. Well worth a purchase. Mdk

This is Sebastian Claro who dropped this one album and then went on to govern the small country of Luxembourg. Maybe. Probably. Sh*t I don't know. What I do know is that before a life of possible political corruption and questionable soul singer blind dates his one and only album was a powerful mix of goa and psy. Not readily seen in 2003, otherwise known as the year before we were introduced to Suntrip Records. Respect is full of deep psychedelic thumpers with the aforementioned goa licks. The melodies aren't the elaborate kind like you would hear today, but the dark atmospheres and effects capably fill the void. Good album and just a cup size away from very good. I would say this is similar to the work of Fractal Glider. So if you liked his style of music you should check it out. Mdk

I don't know if there's a Yoko Ono situation going on here or what, but changes need to be made. This is stop and start sample heavy pablum with no depth whatsoever. I've stepped in deeper puddles. I don't remember having this much trouble and stress with the first child. God knows it sucks that's why he blesses you with the power of short memory. We are right there, right at the precipice of not having to deal with diapers. It's so close I can almost taste it. Really I can feel it. And I did. Kid was playing with the Kindle on my bed, leaning on my legs whilst I attempted to grab a few winks. After multiple denials of having to use the potty, I force her to go. That's when I felt it. Through her pants, on my pants, all over the comforter to the sheet and even on the cooling layer. If you're a parent then you've probably been there. I swear nothing is safe when you have kids. I mean do you have any idea how long it takes to dry a comforter and sheets? As I'm standing there berating this poor 3 year old and comparing her to a dog that pees wherever the f*ck it wants to I realize I've gone to far. It's very stressful and I'm learning that there isn't a lot of reasoning with a 3 year old. Ahhh....this too shall pass. So anyway this is basically Scorb and all the people he invited to the studio to muck around. And I'm telling you he should stick with this formula. It's stomping good twilight psytrance with a groovy sway. Evolving melodies and well timed breaks make this fun to listen to. Hell I'll put it out there...this is the best thing I've heard from Mr. Connor. Artists like Concept, Deviant Species and Neural Rectifier Syndrome bring scratchy sounds and acid splatters creating a futuristic mix. It's got a dark flow that remains consistent through the entire album. Stratagem is one of my favorites as it is rumbler that grows in intensity, slowly building with some wicked power. The label with the signature kissing door knocker is back with another chapter in the Psionic series. It's a digital twilight ride with a copious amount of acid, lasers, and well manipulated samples. Some tracks have a theatrical quality to them, but one common thread is dark power. It's what they do. Blistering tracks like Substances and Definitely Dead have that rapid pace and swirling energy. The girl interrupted sample in Substance D is delightfully twisted. Right up my alley. Most of this compilation is top notch with only a few misses near the end. Great sound and furious energy. He has released music on Blacked Out Recordings, Sound Break Records, Divergence, KindCrime Recordings, V.I.M. Records, Music Dark Records, Ego Shot Recordings and Dirty Drop Records. Z4thoichi is the project which Javier E.R has been immersed in for the last few years. Javi started listening to 60's and 70's music when he was a child and at a young age he knew it wouldn't stop there. Being a drummer, percussionist, bass player and autodidact, he has always been interested in all types and styles of music from all over the world, imbibing his soul with everything he has listened to. In 1998 Javi started a punk-rock band called Paper Plane, where he played the drums and he started to realise he really loved creating rhythms. From then on, he has been involved in many different bands, contributing and learning. In 2004 he discovered psychedelic trance and the rave scene and he went to lots of psychedelic nights in Decades, an epic bar in his home town Seville, Spain. Those experiences encouraged him to participate in the scene and share his feelings about the music. In 2005 Javi founded a psytrance collective called Psylocibe with some friends from Seville that offered their particular vision of psytrance, throwing indoor and outdoor parties featuring the best djs of the Andalusian scene. From that point on Javi has been very active, playing at free parties and clubs in Spain such as El Tren and Quilombo and also at important festivals like Kuruputo Festival (Argentina)and SkizodelicMind Festival, Connection (Spain). In 2010 Javi started producing psychedelic tech funk/psybreaks under the name Z4thochi. A very promising career path soon emerged which was fortified by his tracks being remixed by renowned artists such as Andy Faze, Charlie Kane and Forufreezer. 2013 was a very productive (and busy) year for Z4thoichi. As well as moving to London from Seville he released 4 quality original tracks alongside 4 remixes plus a wicked Memtech remix, which went out as a free download. 2014 has been equally positive starting off with an excellent System 2 remix followed up by a storming collab with Chris Voro called Genesis. A remix for the mighty Martopeter was released shortly after along with another first class remix, this time for Blacklist. You can listen of all of these releases on his Z4thoichi soundcloud page.
