Dasvidanya Ah Power Source clearly all out of f*cks to give. One of the more notable names that was almost a seminal figure in the goa scene. This project (which began as a trio and is now the sole property of Shahaf Shvarzman) beat us over the head with some say their only standout track Goaway. I however believe them to have had at least a few more with Memory Bubbles, Granada, and Skywalker, but clearly if you kicked out their contribution the goa pyramid would still stand solidly. So now it's back and we know the trap that can be a hazard of returning artists. It's a trap that Power Source jumped into with two feet screaming "F*ck it!" all the way down. This album is pure Dacru full-on with goa and trance elements which might require you to get some sunglasses when listening to it as the shiny and modern production could very well blind you. I like what Space Cat did with Sparks and even though it's pretty good we already heard the Filteria Remix of Skywalker on Ten Spins Around the Sun. The Mahadeva remix was also entertaining, but it just made me want to hear the original. Look I was never a huge fan of this project to begin with, but If you can listen to the last track without dry heaving than perhaps you should apply for sainthood. What the unholy f*ck? It's not bad with it's great production and power, but I don't have time for just not bad. There was potential here, but for me there wasn't anything that was particularly memorable. Cydelix - Induction On the heels of the decent yet underwhelming Virtual Jungle re-issue comes a compilation of tracks put together by goa powerhouse Radical Distortion. Hell this could very well be a new release from that duo as their fingerprints are all over this. The release itself is very Greek centric with regards to tracks, mastering, and artwork. And ain't nothing wrong with that. The music is mostly goa trance done well (The Wizard is a powerful track which was released last year, the bouncy Induction, Journey, Voltage Source Remix, and Year 2488), sometimes goa that's a little too fluffy for my tastes (Ammos, Solar Echoes), and then a blurring of the line between goa/psytrance on Ohm Sun. So it's pretty good with outstanding sound quality, but I can't help but feel that the label is in a bit of a rut by releasing comfortable albums. And by that I mean albums that are good, but haven't reached that level which they have in the past. Weird to say that after I just told you that the compilation was pretty good, but I feel it's been since 2015's Robotized that the label has hit a home run. Still, a compilation worth having. And it’s hella fun! We are all just spiritual beings, in physical bodies. I’ve seen things you’ve never seen. Picture a circle, on one end is sanity, and on the other end of the circle, close to insanity but not insanity, is unsanity. Leptons are z-particles. We’re in bat county. I am your guardian angel but Mars needs women; don’t worry, things hardly ever fuck up around here. I’ve never seen anyone move that fast… sounds like some spiritual antiseptic, eh? See, regardless of what you do in life, it all applies. Pay attention for the moments of unsanity and learn to spot when you should be slinking up the world with some slower wizard-esque jams and when you need to get that Doof level acid on. Look for all of the different gods and aliens, because—somehow—they are all true, even when contradicting each other. It all exists, because none of it exists. But the belief, of the stupidly crazy and not real, creates realness. As that’s how magic and faith work. I had tried to record it live but I fucked up the record settings and it was essentially unlistenable. I’ve thought about that set a lot throughout the summer while in airports or backseats of cars, so after unpacking from the Eclipse journey, I revisited some tracks and had a moment of pause. 2017 has been a bloody intense year for so many people. There is a lot of tense energy out there, but within that is the most pure strength and compassion that I’ve ever felt around me. Good people are doing good things and while the short term can feel extremely disheartening; the long term is going to be okay. We need to push out those on-edge feelings though. This set might help you out with that. Take a breath and go with Goa… back to home. Blue Monday (Tribute Remix to New Order) I have always liked this project. Imagine South African psytrance loaded with goa elements. Victor Solsona may not be one of the premier names in psy, but he always delivers the goods. I'm still working my way through his most recent album Eurythmia, but this came along not soon after. It's a name your price wav download of unreleased and remixed tracks dating all the way back to 1999. I believe his strength is the constant evolution of his tracks. His current style is never a stagnant 4/4 full-on borefest, but he interjects new melodies and rhythm patterns. He takes tracks in different directions and is very good at adding atmosphere to provide a more lush sound. And that's what you get here for the most part even though some of the tracks are pretty old. One other thing he excels at is really good break work. Even the uber cheesy remix of New Order's Blue Monday wasn't as bad as it could've been. Usually when an artist releases something like this there's a reason it was never given a proper release in the first place. Not so here. Wormhole is a rollicking good goa track and The Final Passenger changes enough to keep it fresh. Mismo Plastico keeps the goa vibe going, while Dr. Livingstone is a slow burner full of darkness. Tracks five and six are more of what you would expect from an album like this and even they aren't bad. Bottom line this is a great release that doesn't behave like a bunch of older, re-imagined tracks. Oh by the way...can someone explain to me the Japanese fascination with tentacles? Bandcamp

The Digital Blonde) Hector Stuardo just keeps chugging along doesn't he? Since 2006 he has released an album every year or every other year not to mention all his compilation work. Dude's a machine. And it wouldn't be such a big deal if half of them were sh*tty, but he puts out quality music each and every time. This album comes on the heels of his last two (Holistic, Trancemutation of the Mind) that have been firmly planted on goa soil. Sure his bass lines aren't very varied, but to me that's the only minor flaw located within. He has this ability to slowly carry you into goa bliss with his melodies, turning the cutoff knob ever so slowly. While he doesn't overload you with melodies he does more with less, building layers around that bass line. The sound is always immaculate and with both the upper and bottom end represented well. Future Stomp Wow if you believe what the announcement thread says sounds like these guys hit a home run. Let's start with this. If you open your debut with a 17 minute track you better know what you're doing. Yeah they did. Luckily this German project seems to have a pretty good handle on this whole psychedelic thing. Coming out of nowhere they dropped this hot potato right into our eager laps. For free. 5 years ago. This album is loaded with long tracks that reside in a variety of psychedelic genres. As others have said that opener was quite spectacular. Very lush and not boring for any of those 17 minutes. Aborigine only has one way to go and unfortunately doesn't come close to the depth or scope of Shaman. Just 11 minutes of noodling. Transcendance is a bit better, but again it fails to maintain the high hopes brought about by the opener. Harmonic Tales is better still with a haunting vibe and more of an alien flare. It's futuristic and heavy. Crossover charges full steam ahead for a pretty good track. Collaborator goes full goa with some glitch riding shotgun. Future Stomp closes it out with some more alien goa. When you make an album that only has long tracks you walk a fine line between overload and boredom. For the most part I think they straddled it pretty well. The album was psychedelic and sounded great even if some tracks went on too long. Is it a classic? Nah, but several tracks kick some ass. California Sunshine - Wonderland (2011 Edit) "It's so weird I've never forgot it." Well, repetition is a good way to remember things. But we'll address that later. This digital compilation arrived out of nowhere from a label that most would be hard pressed to say they had heard of. Regardless of that fact they seem to have gathered an impressive artist list. UX does what he's been doing lately and that's making long, epic tracks that straddle the psytrance goa line. This has a futuristic vibe with an ethereal voice and driving rhythm. Pretty good even if it ran a little long. I wasn't a fan of this reboot of the OOOD track. I don't know if the original artist was behind the reboot, but gone are the gravitas and melodic momentum that made the original such a bad ass. No offense to the artist, but this comes off as a weak Talamasca-esque full-on "ing" of a goa trance classic. The Goasia project fits into an alternative niche in the goa genre. Often people love them or hate 'em. They are definitely different then most of the goa producers today and this track is no exception. It swarms like a uh, swarm waging galactic warfare with a myriad of color. Outside of the lead melody though it's a little thin. Nice, but I would've liked more detail. M-Run has only one album to his credit (still waiting), but what a doozy it was. With that spirit this track is unmistakable M-run. Groove intact with sparkly goa madness throughout. One of my favorites here. Phantom Stormer blasts right out of the gate with an imminently danceable sound. Relentless in your face goa trance. Joyfull Nature is the sole unknown artist represented and this track starts off...well, joyfully. Not long after it assumes the mystical sound of goa beaches with a gentle flowing motion. Like a smooth introduction to the goa producers club. Not bad. Miranda is back (always a good thing) with a decent if not unremarkable effort. I liked the weird voice in the background, gave it an air of mystery. Omnivox absolutely slays with We Are Infinity a track with a boisterous bottom end. Closing things out is an older remake of Wonderland by California Sunshine. Never been a fan of this project and repeating the sample 12 times isn't going to help. The same sample. 12 times. That means on average every 43 seconds you hear this sample. Nephew please. The background sounds added to the alien feel (if you're in the mood to be funny and I always am it could also sound like cats) and this had the potential to be a creepy success. Had. This is a track that I have been recently working on. The melodies/chords are simpler than my other work, but I tried to go for a hypnotic approach with lots of repetition in a "outer space" themed track. Note: I use FL Studio's step sequencer/channel rack only. Not playlist mode. I prefer the step sequencer because I can make the track feel more natural in a "live" way when I record. Criticism is wanted!

A dark thing that quickly turned into a light thing Goa-ish. Mixing feedback is especially appreciated! I try to stay away from a too clean sound but feel there's a lot of room for improvement in my mixing.

Artist: Jikooha Title: Spacemen Underground Label: Matsuri Digital Date: June, 2017 1. Neo Tokyo Apocalypse 2. Decode Reality 3. Gravity Controller 4. Shamanarchy 5. Shambhala UFO 6. Lemuria 7. Nextgen Odyssey [Jikooha & Asteroidnos] 8. Ecco Weed 9. Mandalavision I hope to go to Japan one day and experience the melding of an ancient culture and a modern metropolis. So many things to see and do. From way over here in the states it seems so foreign and that they aren't afraid to be different. That principle also applies to their goa trance as it doesn't sound like anything currently out there. This duo has been around a long time and they seem to push the boundaries of goa into sometimes loud and abrasive places. Perhaps it's the punk vibe flowing through their veins. It's been five years since their last album Sirius Rising and what do you know this is their fifth album. They open things with an onslaught of analog sounds, thumping beats, and a progressive feel. Neo Tokyo Apocalypse is mostly a positive track, but that vibe doesn't last very long. Decode Reality brings an ominous analog wave pierced with 303 tones as if in warning. It churns and throbs while Gravity Controller oscillates with no less insistence. Not as dark, but still driving. Shamanarchy is tribal and mysterious with intense melodies. Shambala UFO brings guitar into the mix, but merely as a handrail for the electronics yet it's my least favorite track on the album. Lemuria is an addictive track with electric analog sounds pulsing in layers. Nextgen Odyssey has a more groovy and less aggressive feel with ample opportunity for head nodding. Ecco Weed is a more mellow offering that seems to say the album is winding down from its intensity and I believe should've been the final track. But they close with Mandalavision, and the intensity makes a final appearance raising the blood pressure like a new Trump executive order. Their sound is dancing in an underground club until the wee hours of the morning amidst flashing lights and multitudes of colors. Taking a simple melody and twisting it until it becomes hypnotically lush. Before you know it you've sweated through your clothes. As I've mentioned the beat is always heavy and there is an analog presence throughout while adding tribal elements in some tracks. While none of the tracks for me rise to the Etnica/Pleiadians level of detail this was a solid goa trance album and definitely worth the wait. Psyshop

For the lovely party "Divide by Zero inv. Skuttie: BlijeBakkesBijeenkomst The Sequel", I cooked up this special set, exploring different facets of goa trance and beyond. A blend of sunshine melodies, driving acid lines, dreamy passages, powerfull stormers, etc. Since I had to play quite a bit longer than expected, there was a fair amount of improvisation involved, but I feel it came together quite nicely. I would like to hear more tracks with a slower tempo, I think there are not enough. Unfortunately most contemporary artists do not bother to include slower or at least ambient closing tracks in their albums. Most of the time they present their album with all the tracks clocking at +140 bpm. I need more goa trance at around 130 bpm! Who's with me?

Hey all, I've been producing Industrial music for the last 10 or so years and have released on some known labels in that genre so I like to think that I am ok at music, but I think the standards are lower in that genre. Anyway, long story short I have been going back to my "roots" in psy/goa and that's all I want to write these days. My first love is goa, but I can't ever stick to writing one style so my stuff is a mix of the things I like from various genres which include Goa, Prog, Darkpsy, Tribal, and Industrial. I have no idea if this stuff fits into a particular style or even sounds good to psy people. Thematically these songs draw from ancient egyptian mythology and alchemy. Pleiadians - Moon In Your Window (Morphic Resonance Mix) Undisputed king of goa trance Cristian Fernandez has attempted to produce an album in the face of overwhelming odds. The odds of seeing the bloated orange president's taxes seem like a sure thing when compared to remixing arguably some of the greatest goa trance tracks of all time. Music from the Italian's projects (Pleiadians, Crop Circles, Etnica) is sacred and I suppose if we had commandments in the goa scene most of their music would be on it. The tracks are special and some would argue that you should just leave perfection alone. What he has presented here are remixes, his interpretation of tracks that meant so much to him. It took him over three years to do this and he did it without any files to provide a roadmap. As a musician I'll tell you it is incredibly difficult to copy an original piece of work with such detail. But he did what a remix is supposed to do and that is to create something fresh while keeping the spirit of the original work. The sound quality is stunning, just stunning. The tracks are f*cking blistering, evolving, relentless masterpieces. At no time did I think his work was subpar or that he failed to capture the glory of what was done in the past with perhaps one exception. Maia. That track in its original form is just a beast and at least to my ears what goa perfection sounds like. That said his version didn't make me want to stop listening. Far from it. I just took it as something different and a great goa track to be added to my library. This entire album is superb, melodic goa trance and I'll go even one further. His 2nd remix of Taygeta and his last remix of Moon In Your Window is better than the originals. This quote by gfp1 in the Artist News and Label Announcements thread is something I agree with: "All in all, the challenge undertaken to create Trip to the Stars was massive and I have to respect that. It is a difficult proposition to win. Simply recreating the originals would just make people want to go and listen to the originals, while altering the core of the tracks too much might turn off people who enjoyed the originals. Morphic Resonance found a healthy balance between the two." Bottom line for me is that DAT Records has once again delivered a powerhouse and if you are a goa fan this is a must have. It's the very foundation on which you build your character and what you go on to accomplish in life. K.O.B. is Jannis Tzikas and the alternate personality if you will of his more widely known project Filteria. While the latter is defined by melodies and is pure goa music through and through the former is a mash of styles relying heavily on the psychedelic aspect. This album is more concerned with driving rhythms and allowing the music to evolve. Sometimes building, sometimes deconstructing. It's robotic (not meant in a negative way), futuristic, and oftentimes the sound choices can sound metallic and harsh. But there is no mistaking who is behind this project as his goa soul shines through quite clearly. And sometimes angrily (which I like). The title and artwork accurately describe what is located within, a combination of forest and goa all tucked neatly under an umbrella of psychedelic psytrance. While not my favorite release from the vaunted Suntrip Records it continues to prove that they are not all sunshine and rainbows and haven't forgotten that psytrance indeed needs to remain psychedelic. Kurbeats - Phony Phony (Maiia Remix) Yes, very interesting. This is Alla Vagner who should be familiar to all who frequent this forum based on her 2014 release Sky In Diamonds on Ovnimoon Records. It was a pleasant surprise and a breath of fresh air to hear the organic sound melded with goa trance. Sure it 's been done before, but man did she do it well. She gets right after it with the goa tinged breakbeat track Tale About the Shining Dragon and Natural Energy. I believe that she is the female equivalent to Hardfloor. Funky breakbeats layered with that saucy 303 riding shotgun. It's truly body moving music with eerie tones layered over top. Mysterious at times, but always engaging with plenty of tribal affects. Check out Strawberry Lassy...lots of Shponglese going on there. She keeps the tracks relatively short for maximum freshness. Artist: Psychedelic Quest Title: Morning Trip Ep Label: Timewarp Records Date: March, 2017 1. Morning Trip 2. Crystal Moon 3. Lunar Circles 4. Crazy Forest Dude....where are the f*cking cookies? That's how this short digital ep from longtime producer Leonidas Giotis makes me feel. The sound is great, but it is what I term new school stagnant. It finds one groove and rides it all the way home. It's got a very happy and uplifting sound, but man it just doesn't go anywhere. All the tracks have similar arpeggios and feel a hell of a lot longer than they are. Sorry, but I cannot recommend this one. Far too weak on depth and details. Timewarp Bandcamp
