  1. And there's also people immediately trolling over that. Maybe that's the reason too (no offense ) Scandinasia posts here because he likes psytrance like all of us, and it's natural to ddefend what you stand for.
  2. That's a wonder, the wikipedia page doesn't even contain the word "disgusting". It's even weirder as Psytrance is very popular in the californian hipster hitech circles.
  3. I don't know...this is Psynews héhé, so Goa gest first, but thanks everyone for your support ! Once again, the artists are the ones who did an amazing job. Suntrip has only been a facilitator, so their music could reach you with a proper mastering, a nice cover, and great gigs! As far as Suntrip is concerned, I think our best in 2014 was Ten Spins Around The Sun: it showcases very well our core values and it's really a piece of art. But Shakta and E-Mantra are indeed amazing artists and I understand why they were preferred to a compilation. A couple of personal remarks: I think Three Om Three, Ajna, Colors of Goa and Memories From Goa Madness deserved a better ranking. Kudos to Ephedra and Morphic Resonance who are now being recognized for all their sustained, hard work! The rankings show many Neogoa.tk *free* releases, proving once again you can have quality in a free model. I'm thinking particularly about Arronax and Dragon Twins who delivered wicked music! I'm a prog lover too and last year was deceiving : Son Kite, Suntree, Elegy, Elgiva, Lectro Sepctral Daze did a good job but I wasn't struck by anything particularly. Wow there is an Acid release in the rankings! Hardfloor is still kicking after 23 years on the scene !! Hats down, gentlemen.
  4. I have good headphones and earplugs and Celestial Intelligence sounds super good for me.
  5. Psybient invites you to participate to their "Best of the year" poll! Together let's pick the most interesting ALBUM(s), COMPILATION(s) and LABEL, EVENT, DJ, RADIO and some more categories of 2014. the goal is to promote the projects and artists that made you happy through their music during the last year http://www.psybient.org/love/best-of-2014/
  6. ExactAudioCopy 1.0 beta 3 4 (www.exactaudiocopy.de) Hit F10: Detect the features of your drive Make sure Secure Mode is selected (ultra important) Hit F11: External compression > "user defined encoder" by selecting flac.exe in the program path and "-8 %source% -o %dest%" in the command line. In the main window: Insert CD in reader, use Acton menu > (Test and) copy selected tracks > compressed. done.
  7. Be upright. Do what you say and say what you do. Listen to what other people tell/advise you, but at the end of the day, do what you think is good. For example, you don't have to release ugly tracks just because they're made by your friends. Even if you don't have mountains of cash, give artists some money for their work! Be serious. Mastering isn't so expensive, so why do it yourself and ruin the release? Be rigorous, organized. Make spreadsheets, keep track of stuff. Similarly, always try to raise the bar. There's many many unprofessional people on the scene, you don't have to lower the bar to be at their level; THEY have to raise the bar to be at yours. Don't hesitate to delay a release in order to make things square no matter what your guts tell you. You don't like the artwork preview? Find someone else, give it some time. You see you're going to release in the middle of the summer? Delay till september when people are in front of their computers. In a general manner, extra quality will make customers confident, draw more sales and all the little extra efforts will pay back over time. Some people can be hard on forums, especially after a few years where anything you release is thoroughly dissected. Don't over react. Be patient, it takes years before you get a solid customer base and proper exposure even if you promote like hell. And of course, promote, promote, promote. Your release will only se visible for a few days before another wave of music takes the frontpages. Use FB, Youtube, get interviews, release mixes, find partnerships, (co-)organize parties, etc... That's what takes the most time and that's what I wish I knew back then.
  8. So, I'll start the whole sale on discogs this week BUT if you want to "reserve" some, you can have a look at http://www.discogs.com/user/fmars/collection and email me at mars@suntriprecords.com to save on discogs fees. Note a bunch are already sold/reserved (IFO, Mind Rewind, Accidental Occidentalism), but you can just take your chances. I'm planning on selling at the average Discogs price + make discounts on big orders, etc.
  9. Sinepearl is really nice. Else, I liked mine
  10. Hello I just finished updating my whole Psy/Ambient collection on Discogs. 972 CDs. I still have to add my techno/trance/dance/newage and jean-michel jarre cds (100 more). And in a few days I'll put everything for sale. Well, maybe not everything, for, some are very hard to let go (IFO, Twisted, Silicon Trip, Hol Bauman...). But most likely, everything will go eventually. The idea took form when I was dying in the hospital almost 2 years ago. I thought: "but they're going to be thrown in the trash and nobody else will enjoy them". I didn't eventually die but fact is, I hardly pull the CDs from the shelves anymore since I also own my whole collection in the digital format and listen to it that way. So it's time for to let them go and I hope you'll enjoy owning them That's a tough decision I'm taking, with a tear in the eye, almost. I'm used to saying that what's on my shelves isn't in the top 10 biggest Psy collections (probably in the top 50), but it is one of the most comprehensive collections. There's what I considered to be the best in Goa, Minimal, Progressive, Downtempo, Ambient, IDM...and even FullOn, over the years. That's my tastes of course There's also a bunch of CDs I was offered and kept for no reason over the years... Anyway, it's here: http://www.discogs.com/user/fmars/collection I'm letting a couple of friends choose a few CDs first but they already have a bigger collection and won't take many. And you can start checking out what you'd like to buy in a few days. Thanks for your attention.
  11. @Anoebis: I agree Samothraki 2002 is memorable. I'd driven from Paris to Belgium in order to take the plane with Anoebis and his friends. It was just after the Psynews Summer Launch party we'd organized together, it was at a moment where strong links were drawn...Suntrip has its deeper roots in that summer and these parties (we even met Jannis, who had yet to become Filteria, for the first time there). But still, it's not in my top3, probably nr4. 1) The music festival 1998 in Paris where I first attended the Osmose Party (Total Eclipse, Xerox & Freeman, Elixir, Oforia, Hallucinogen, Space Cat, Astral Projection, and Max of Etnica) and a few hours later the next day, another daytime party on an island of the Seine river with Bamboo Forest, Psychaos and X-Dream to name a few... I literrally collapsed after that! BTW a small anecdote about the Osmose party: Max had been playing fabulous stuff for less than one hour when one of the promoters took a microphone and announced the party was over. It was 11AM and yet people complained!!!! So he said "ok we're going to strip down the party place and we'll disconnect the sound system last!". So we could keep on dancing! Crazy times... 2) The "Ultimae" Ambient night at the Aurora 2009 festival, Greece: Asura, Aes Dana, Solar Fields, HUVA Network, Cell, and so on......Impossible to describe. I remember collapsing on the beach during the Cell live act and watching at the stars, astounded to be allowed to live such a moment...I took a nap in my tent, watched the sunrise, and came back to see CBL, Eat Static and more...just too good to be true. If you weren't there, you just missed a once in a lifetime experience. 3) Some smaaaaaaaaal party in Belgium, called "Hakuna" on Feb 6th 2004. It was a very peculiar context: back in November 2003 there had been a huge police bust during another gig where Astral Projection had played, lots of drugs had been seized, and it was very delicate to organize anything after that without having your party shut down. So on the evening of Hakuna, which only featured local DJs, word was out that the police were watching...and everyone left his "products" home. The outcome was that at 11AM the next day, e.v.e.r.y.o.n.e was still dancing with a smile on his face!! After all these years, there's still a photo of that party with us dancing arms raised in my living room. Ah, there were others, like that goa party under the lighthouse of Portinax, Ibiza; like some Old Is Gold or Fractal Gate parties in Belgium, and you never know what the future may bring, but as of today, those above are my top 3
  12. Progressive: Iono Music Goa: Suntrip Records
  13. Same thing. I keep a folder containing symbolic links to everything I like
  14. Yes, we heard about him first in the autumn 2013 I think, thanks to his Petalic Vibes Remix. And he made a break through in 2014. He's going to improve on mixing, that's always a difficult issue for those artists who have a lot of layers and screaming sounds (remember Filteria 10 years ago ?)
  15. It's a good album, full of ideas, very psychedelic.
  16. Exactly 15 years ago, Children, young frenchman started goatrance.free.fr, which later became Psynews! For those who didn't know, it aimed at replacing a failing UK website called "TRiP" which was focused on reviewing Goa Trance music releases, on CD and vinyl. A group of enthusiasts from all over the world quickly joined Children and brought their own tributes by reviewing their own albums. A few months later, goatrance.free.fr got its own domain and became Psynews.org. You can check the full Psynews history. After lots of adventures, Psynews is still there, some of its early contributors are still very active in the scene. Thanks all for your support!
  17. I searched in my archives, and all I have is a book about trance music production... I find a lot of so-called esoteric videos though. What comes to mind first and is pretty close to what you're lookign for is the Goa 20 years book which exists in German an English. http://www.goabook.net/ https://www.psynews.org/forums/topic/60389-goa-20-years-of-psychedelic-trance/
  18. Celestial Intelligence extracts online: http://suntriprecords.com/release/cat/SUNCD35/
  19. I don't pay attenton usually, as long as it makes me move, but I checked your examples and that's right: if you want people on the dancefloor to look like Indians circling around a totem, that's THE bass to use! It gives crazy feelings
  20. Done https://soundcloud.com/anoebis/anoebis-the-history-of-goatrance-1995 Oh and Mixcloud too! https://www.mixcloud.com/draeke/dj-draeke-fractal-gate-mix-july-2011-outdoor/
  21. Yes that's because the [media] youtube links are rewritten with a static scheme (http) whereas the rest has become https. So browsers complain about "unsafe content". There's 2 solutions: - either update the content rewriting rules with https (I'll do what is possible) <= Edit: it was possible but I need to rebuild all the posts now - or ask your browser to display "unsafe content" on psynews (on Chrome, use the little shield on the right of the address bar).
