Of course a DJ still has to know some basics about music, such as which keys match, in order to do a sonically perfect harmonic mix. not sure what to think.. but would like to try it out.

FLAC is lossless and it's about 1/2 size of .wavs. yeah, not really for collectors I agree. Someone will have to figure out something for you guys to chew on, though..

perhaps not completely, but it will allow a lot of people who don't want to deal with the hassle of ordering a whole CD for a few good tracks to buy lossless copies of tracks. I don't mind spending 30 bucks to get 20 tracks that I like in lossless format, that's a fact. but anyway, this is not the time or place for this discussion.

Yes or No isn't my favorite comp from Vertigo, though it has some good tracks - like Adrenal Glands (Zik/Matutero), OSOM and Manyface. THe Cosmo track is interesting also.. in general, though, there are plenty of crappy dark labels who release crappy comps - I happen to think Vertigo is one of the best ones, along with Diskovalley, MoE, and Parvati. edit: actually Sketchup isn't the Manyfaces track I was thinking of..

and other styles of psy are any different? compilations with 1 or 2 good tracks (or none at all!) are a norm across the board. so can we not start another genre-bashing thread pls?

People aren't going to stop downloading - the way to go is to sell FLAC or 320 MP3 downloads online, imo.

where did you get this information? I used to work at a used CD store, and we NEVER punched holes in barcodes. In fact, it's hard to do, you have to open the whole CD up, and pull out the insert - you can't put it back in without messing it up one way or another. I am 99% sure most of the punched holes are from promotional copies. Nearly every CD we got at the radio station (and the promos I'd get as a DJ) had a hole through the barcode - even brand new ones that are still in the original plastic packaging. This was in the late 90's - though I am pretty sure this is still common practice, at least among the larger/more established labels that have a stock of CDs designated as promotional material (there are thousands of radio stations, reviewers, magazines, and DJs who get these promos). Also I clearly remember getting promotional CDs from Blue Room - they were sponsored and had a large operation, even opened an office in the US called 'Blue Room Americas' and went to Burning Man with their own theme camp, and a massive sound system - X-Dream played that year. They did a massive promo campaign, so I think your CD might be one of those distributed for free. all this brings back memories.

means it was a promo copy, not for sale. for radio or some such thing.

there's some amazing techno out there these days, glitchy minimal stuff, that goes far beyond a lot of the so called "psy-techno." having said that, Midi Miliz/Spirallianz have put out some excellent tunes, especially the more glitchy and less dark industrial stuff.

who cares if he is cool or not. the last two years of his musical output should be destroyed and never spoken of again. plus he is the leader of an evil cult of sorts...chemical crew. first album was good, though.

how do you like the X-9? would you recommend it over a Rane or Allen & Heath mixer? My main concerns are sound quality (in general and also EQ response) and durability. Ebay prices seem pretty good on it right now.

Penta, when I've seen him, DJ'd his own tracks - both released and unreleased. Both times I saw him play were a near religious experience. The only person I've seen do a true "Live" set is Onnomon - seen him 5 or 6 times and each time it's been very different and unique.

to say any genre of music is bad is juvenile. every genre is like psytrance - 95% of it is utter crap, and the good 5% are hard to find.

it's especially funny to hear that knowing that the majority of the original techno, jungle, and acid house producers and DJs back from the 80s and 90s are black..
