  1. yes.. small secret underground events in the mountains are fun indeed. though they've been getting bigger, you still get to know and make friends with almost everyone.. we've been trying hard to keep it real and non-commercial, and so far we've had success.. but back to the original thread now.
  2. well, we do have a couple of monthly events in Denver coming up on Jan. 7th and Jan. 28th. and I shouldn't say my judgement is based solely on Colorado - I travel and play quite a bit around the US, and in general the variety in music has increased a lot since the scene started growing again back in 2001-2002 or so.
  3. didn't like this album as much as Idea FX.. too retro and housey for me, with some exceptions. btw, Horns and Hoofs are based in Russia, not Poland. The last V/A was the first one with Polish artists on it. Usually is't all Russian tech.
  4. very dark industrial feel to this album, not much for the headiness that makes a lot of tech stuff so yummy. not my favorite boshke release.

    v/a Lyserg Lesson

agreed. This CD is more of the commercial dark psy full-on style, not very psychedelic to me at all. Phatmatix and Osom tracks are nice, though.
  6. This is somewhat different from what I expected. I liked some tracks (most notably #5), but most tracks here have a really dark/industrial feel to them - not a bad thing, but honestly I enjoyed Procs older tunes a LOT more - with their bouncy trippy happy forest trance. I mean, this is almost as dark as Ghreg on Earth..
  7. Ocelot is "raving darkpsy?" wtf?
  8. eh, Psyfactor got really pissed when I commented on his album on Isratrance. to the effect that I don't "understand" his music. It seems that he equates people who don't like his stuff with not understanding it. It's not a very intelligent choice for the artist to make because there will always be lots and lots of people with good taste who just simply don't like his music.
  9. well, judging from our underground scene here in Colorado, the variety in music has increased dramatically. we are not very commercial here at all, so not a lot of poppy tunes - mostly very psychedelic stuff here. People have gotten kicked off the decks for playing top 40 psytrance before.
  10. on the whole label argument, the variety in the music has increased, while the overall quality has decreased. it's a trade-off.. i would never want to go back to when there were only 10 labels releasing most of the music. everybody was playing the same shit all the time, you'd hear the same track at every party for months. boooring.
  11. just because you don't think it's a quality response, officer, doesn't meant it isn't. not everything has to be dead fucking serious, you know..
  12. really? I thought Funraiser was brilliant.. though not quite as accessible as Pentafiles, indeed.
  13. why you tellin us? go tell the labels they shouldn't exist.

    "Dark" Psy

totally different genres, imo. modern dark psy isn't atmospheric or moody or melodic, really. it's just very twisted and psychedelic music.
  15. that has nothing to do with the quality of the music, imo. though I didn't like the Psyfactor album very much, there are some people who did. subjective taste plays a role here... I think the Psykovsky album is decent, some very interesting tracks on there, probably will see some play from me.

    "Dark" Psy

eh.. if you can't find "dark" stuff that's good, you are not looking hard enough.
  17. These kinds of threads seem to bring out the biatch in people.
  18. are Filteria and Misted Muppet positive or negative factors here? besides, the Talpa album was ready in 2003, but came out 1.5 years later. 2005 pwns 2004 completely and utterly. All the kick-ass 'dark' ultra-psychedelic music from San Fran, France, Scandinavia, Russia, etc etc.. and some quality morning psytrance also. looking forward to the psy-fi next year..
  19. heh.. funny how 500 is "limited" release now, and 'underground' is another marketing term. I'm with Gnome.
  20. Wow what an awesome compilation - tracks 2,3,5,6 here are EXCELLENT! more interesting and psychedelic than anything else released this year (on par with a couple of other comps maybe). some of this stuff makes Derango sound dated (which it kinda is anyway). the Zik track is kick-ass - watch out for two of his albums coming out in February (under Adrenal Glands and Matutero, i believe), he is probably the hottest producer in the galaxy right now. . Quasar album also ready - coming out on MoE this spring, afaik. also I think Tsabeat released a track on Gi'iwa's first comp under a different name, I forget which one it is..

    Artifakt - Artifakt II

classic in the making? perhaps.. my bet, though, in 6 months this album will be totally forgotten. i guess we'll have to wait and see..
  22. I liked new ones from Luke Vibert, Chevron, Proem, Four Tet, Isolee, Jason Forrest, Kid 606 (!), Richie Hawtin's Transitions, Sound Tribe Sector 9 remix album (Perspectives), and some other stuff.. waiting to hear the new Bonobo now.
  23. well, 'tis true if you're talking about their older stuff. but if you heard some newer Fractal Cowboys tracks.. or a live set.. the most mindblowing psychedelic music i've ever heard. At times I could hardly say it's psytrance, it's gone so far past the boundaries of the genre. I wouldn't know what to call it. Maybe psy-IDM. Zik's live set was impressive as well. I have yet to hear Derango live. I hear they're coming to the US in May though. And Metalaxis/Polyphonia - their music is so fucking far beyond, it sounds like it was made by aliens. Ocelot is good, but having heard his live set 3 times, he doesn't induce the same type of experience in me as those other acts. You could also try Ghreg on Earth - his stuff is much more minimal, hard, and deep. I personally don't like it as much, but I know quite a few people who literally have orgasms when he plays.
  24. if I start a thread "Shpongle makes full-on" will I qualify?
