  1. Artist: Nervasystem Title: Formasi Voices EP Label: Psychic Deli Date: 1996 1. Formasi Voices 2. Liquid Lifeform What an awesome ep from Nervasystem! Formasi Voices is a growler that erupts with power and Liquid Lifeforms bubbles with dark goa atmosphere. Some of the best stuff I've ever heard from this project. Mdk

  3. Artist: CoaGoa Title: Transcendental Consciousness EP Label: Timewarp Records Date: July, 2014 1. Everything Is Conscious 2. Transcendental Consciousness (Tribute to Nova Fractal) 3. Frozen Love "If you have a golf ball sized consciousness, when you read a book you'll have a golf ball sized understanding. When you look out a golf ball sized awareness. And when you wake up in the morning a golf ball sized wakefullness." Not to mention a sh*tload of golf balls. Coagoa is Alexandar Popovic and this is his debut ep. The first track is smooth and subtle. The title track is more aggressive yet equally layered. Very tasty. The last track...hmmm. For those of you who doubt that inspiration could come from a visit to a sperm back I give you...Frozen Love! That title brings to mind hair metal power ballads and the mother daughter teams that throw their panties on stage. Cheesy right? And make no mistake the cheesy title is followed by cheesy and cliched downtempo music. Aside from the last track this is a fairly good ep. The goa is multi layered warmth, floating and melodic. It sounds great thanks to the production as well as the mastering by Deimos. These days it's not enough to just make goa trance. You have to also be quite a good artist in other aspects which Alexandar did with he being the one behind the attractive cover art. Beatport Mdk
  4. Artist: Various Title: Fill Your Head With Phantasm - Psychedelic Trance Label: Phantasm Records Date: June, 1995 1. Akasha - Beings From Another World 2. Interlect 3000 - Gravitation (Sundog Remix) 3. Quartermass - Kali 4. Mindfield - Sphynx 5. Synasthesiacs - Channel 9 6. Mindfield Vs. Sundog - Ghosts On The Highway 7. Temple of Dreams - Oscillation 8. Sundog - Brain Capers 9. Synthasy - Spiral Journey 10. Taufactor - Red Shift 11. Mojo - Bass Driver 12. Silver & Steel - Dreaming of Disco Valley "Beings from another world have visited Earth before." Regardless of your political preference, this would ah...hmmm...this would explain a lot. The first in the series this compilation had some potential, but not unlike a two day old bottle of coke lost it's fizz near the end. The first few tracks were not spectacular, but solid efforts with the means to sweep you up and prepare you for takeoff with their deep goa sensibilities. Then it got a little too happy and trancey as if the compilers followed the pot luck method of track selection. "Yeah, f*ck it just throw it in there! It's a stew man! Everyone loves a good stew!" The quality and depth found in the first few were noticeably absent in later tracks. Phantasm was a label started by John Ford (Mindfield) and the late Simon Carman and you will find a lot of the tracks by Mindfield, Sundog (John Ford and Simon Carman) and various other side projects of Mindfield. The best thing I can say about this compilation was that while some of the tracks were unimpressive it's a mixed CD and it is mixed well. Hardly essential and I imagine if it didn't have sequels that were far superior this would have faded into obscurity. Mdk
  5. Artist: Various Title: Flight 604 Label: Zion 604 Date: May, 2012 1. Enlightenment (Oforia Remix) - Loud 2. Goa Visions - Adrenalin Drum 3. Spirit of God - Qlipadelic Rhythm & Jikooha 4. Enoch - Aurax 5. Physical Reality - Computer Controlled 6. Narrow Vision In A Wide World - Cymatics 7. Analogue Sunrise - InnerZone 8. Gate To The Past - California Sunshine 9. Evil Echo - 2 Minds Sitting at home with nothing to do but surf the net is dangerous indeed. Add Zion 604 to the labels that I've cleaned out. Damn you Paypal and your incredible ease of use! If you don't know, Zion 604 Records is a psychedelic trance record label formed in March 2012 by Roy Sason, Stephan Spivak and Masafumi Hoshida. An Israeli/Japanese tag team if you will. This is their first release as a label and a first step in their main goal: preserving the Goa culture by spreading Goa music. That can't be a bad thing right? But they say that this is Pure Israeli New School at its best. That word...I don't think it means what you think it means. I recognize some of the artists as being old school, so are these new tracks? But there are new schoolers hear as well. I see you Jikooha. Don't try to hide. Enlightenment (Oforia Remix)- Ofer's back in play with a remix of a Loud track. Noun, not adjective. I was stunned at how unremarkable it was. Zero twists and turns just straight ahead. Where are the layers? Where's the acid lines? Answer me that Mr. Pigs in Space!?! Don't come in here with that weak shit Ofer. Goa Visions- "If you haven't heard of LSD, you will. It's a safe bet that this drug will make headlines in this country as it has for some years in America." You hear those 303's? Those dogs are barkin! It has a swagger that doesn't hit you at once, but prefers to strike from a distance. I was hoping for a nice climax that would bring all the elements together, but that didn't happen. Spirit of God- Now this is some good new school. It thumps with ever changing leads and arcing pads. Not overly lush with tons of layers, but again straightforward. Twinkling sounds and electronic whistles add to it's nature. For those that are sick of the floating style you'll probably enjoy this. Enoch- Old Schooler Aurax gets things chunky about halfway through with some guttural goa sounds. It pumps and rises to a pretty good climax. One of the most unintentionally sexual things I've ever typed. Physical Reality- "It only comes into existence when it bumps up against some other piece of physical reality." That's what she said. You had to be there. You might not recognize the name here, but this is Eitan Rider (half of Loud) and one of the label heads. This track sounds pure old school with a melody that I swear I've heard before. It builds and bubbles over with maximum twirling potential. Eitan should make more goa, he's pretty good at it. Narrow Vision in a Wide World- "What do you mean? What do you think when you say the word I? I...myself." Either this guy is an old schooler that never made anything or he is fresh as a daisy cause he comes right out and stakes his claim. New guy makes massive old school track. Screaming leads echo throughout as it combines the floating power of sunshine with the aggressive swagger of the dark side. Can't wipe the smile off my face. Analogue Sunrise- Another unknown artist to me with a very busy track. Pumping surely, with noisy sounds and drug samples that tumble over like a waterfall. Some good layering in there and it gets into attack mode at the end. Gate To The Past- If you've read my reviews (and how could you not I'm everywhere...see, look at my profile. Look at it. It even says so) then you know my utter disdain for California Sunshine. For my ears they haven't produced anything worthwhile in over a decade and just seeing them on a tracklist makes me want to send rockets into Israel. Now I know this is a track from 2009 so they can't add to their pile of refuse, but it still stinks. The cornball "The Gate to the Past" sample with that accent and the loud clap is like nails on a chalkboard to me. So cheesy. What's a matter, couldn't fit any guitars in here? I swear I want to start a petition to get them to drop the California from their name. They're ruining it. Gate to the past? Yeah, you wish. Evil Echo- Brothers you say? Hmm...a very cool downtempo track. The melody wavers and speaks of ancient times and deities. Deep bass hums as the trip deepens and you descend into the underground of the Middle East. Old meets young with some glitchy elements and banging percussion. Very impressive maiden voyage Zion. Throw out the CS track and it's even better. You got some old school artists and some new ones making old school. I like your philosophy and I just recently ordered your catalog so you can expect more reviews in the future. Recommended. 6. Cronomi Records is very proud to present its next full length album: “PSYSUTRA- GAMMA PHOENICIS”. Who is better to describe the creative process than the artist himself? In his own words: “It has been a delight to work on this for 6 years. Listen, enjoy and… see you on the dance floor.” A short and powerful description, isn’t it? But you’ll hear what he means when you have obtained this gem. Psysutra will take you on a melodic and acidic journey filled with melancholic atmospheres. Never boring: The tracks are long and complex stories that are made for listening, trancing and dancing! http://cronomi.bandcamp.com/album/psysutra-gamma-phoenicis https://shop.cronomi.com/?page_id=571

  8. Artist: Carbon Title: Dream EP Label: UAF Date: February, 2014 01 - Shangri-La (142 BPM) 02 - Bergamot (143 BPM) 03 - Jupiter (Green Elf Mix) (149 BPM) 04 - Dream (100 BPM) Longtime Psynews memberand festival leggings wearer Imba is back with a release on his Underground Alien Factory label. Carbon is from Slovakia (a psytrance/goa artist from the Balkans? Stop me if you've heard that one.) and he delivers something pretty nice. Shangri La has lots of evolution with some bubbling and intense fury. The layers are nice and this sounds very raw. Bergamot is old school gritty with popping 303 sounds. Another track that makes a sharp directional turn. Well put together. Jupiter was very spacey, but not my favorite. He closes things out with the downtempo Dream. Homie put a bluesy saxaphone in there! Not afraid to travel the untrod path I see. I think I like the variation and changes in direction the most. The tracks are fast and bring the power with very nice layering. Free at Ektoplazm Mdk
  9. Artist: Various Title: Goa Trance IV The Psychedelic Goa Edition Label: Tetsuo Records Date: October, 1997 1. Syb Unity Nettwerk - Space Puppy 2. Mystica - Expose 3. Psygone - Outer Limits 4. MFG - Alternate Dimension 5. Darshan - Mind Merge 6. Shidapu - Vertigo 7. Aqualite - Wipeout 8. Lochi - London Acid City (Jon the Dentist Remix) 9. Prodenya - Magnetic Fields 10. Bypass Unit - Tunnel Floatation (97 Remix) 11. Vectrolab - Triathlon Testicle Records (tee-hee) delivers again with a CD that today is worth it's inflated asking price. It starts off with a mega ground shaker in Space Puppy and keeps going. Melodies, mysticism, and mayhem. Old school goa on steroids. Sure the ridiculously repeated sample in London Acid City might make you want to dig your nails into your temples, but the 303 growl is too tasty to ignore. Even if the track goes nowhere. The Tunnel Floatation remix is funky as hell, but why so short? Great compilation that showcases some powerful goa. Perfect for those wishing to dip their toe in this pool of awesomeness. Mdk
  10. Hi guys! New track from new project. Stellar Force is Imba & OXI. Enjoy in acid daze https://soundcloud.com/stellar-force/acid-daze
  11. Artist: OOOD Title: Two Dawns Over Baleswar EP Label: Completely Cabbaged Date: 1996 1. Two Dawns Over Baleswar 2. Herbs & Spices "Dude. You don't have to hide in the shadows. Didn't you and Robin come out already? i mean everyone already knew. Oh not yet?!? My bad, my bad...I won't tell anyone else. No worries man...nobody reads this sh*t." Solid EP with typical OOOD evolution. It's not your straight ahead goa and this was smack dab in the beginning of their goa trance period I think, appearing on their Alive album. Both tracks show changes in direction with great layers. Two Tales has a tribal element which was great, but Herbs and Spices was surprisingly good. Mdk
  12. Artist: Nostromosis Title: Wood Illusion EP Label: Self Released Date: 2011 1. Mowgli 2. Wood Illusion 3. Mantras of Druids 4. Ents 5. In the Middle of the Glimmered Trees This is Igor Sidorov and I think he has a new EP out on Timewarp Records. Wood Illusion dates back a few years and is his first released ep. I think he first released it by himself and then I guess Goa Records decided to pick it up, slap on a new cover, and now you have the honor of paying $7.50 for it. And I think it shows an artist that has some great ideas, but also has room to grow. I liked Mowgli and it's many layers and Ents with it's fluid goa melody, but I'm guessing his sound palette was slightly limited. Either that or I just didn't like the sounds he used. The rest sounded like a first EP would sound. Very raw and choppy. As I said the ideas are there and they are solid. Now it's just experience and the execution that will follow. I would love to see him come back to this and remix it. Beatport Mdk

  14. Source Two or three months ago I received first promotional (digital) copy of new Ovnimoon Records compilation – The Call Of Goa and I was asked to do review for it and today I finally managed to write down proper review for this one. What can I say about this compilation? 20 tracks carefuly selected by Renato Brnić aka Nova Fractal, with over 155 minutes of finest modern Goa trance. First part (Disc 1) contains melodic stuff with artists such as: Mindsphere, Trinodia, Nova Fractal, Agneton, InnerSelf, JBC Arkadii, etc. While second part contains names such as: Asirion, Ajanta, Celestial Intelligence, CoaGoa, Crossing Mind, etc. CD1 01 - Mindsphere - Last Hope 138 8:03 02 - Agneton - Azure Epos 148 6:47 03 - InnerSelf - Hidden Worlds 142 6:36 04 - Psychowave - Supernova (Lunar Dawn Remix) 146 7:01 05 - Arronax & Weedran - Acid Sunshine (2012 Edit) 144 7:36 06 - Hotep & PsiloCybian - Organic Elements 146 6:58 07 - Nova Fractal - Mass Extinction 145 7:53 08 - Trinodia - Zeta Leporis 142 8:51 09 - Javi & SkoOma - Totoro 145 9:21 10 - JBC Arkadii - Fraktal Diving 150 8:46 CD2 01 - Ajanta - Ouroboros 146 7:26 02 - Alien Message - Arc Prime (White) 145 7:17 03 - Celestial Intelligence - Spiritual 143 8:04 04 - Ephedra - Creation of the Moon 148 6:45 05 - Asirion - Muona 146 9:32 06 - Hypnagogia - Angular Pulsation 147 8:23 07 - Gazzuar - Dirty (2012 Edition) 138 6:53 08 - JIS - The Journey 145 8:16 09 - CoaGoa - Algae Forest 143 8:25 10 - Crosing Mind - Trip Through128 8:38 I’m not gonna do review for each track and instead I’m just gonna mark couple of tracks which I find great. First CD kicks off with Mindsphere’s Last Hope track and it’s a great start, a 138 BPM track in style of Patience For Heaven, very melodic, but intelligently melodic, with awesome storytelling and beautiful oriental melodies. Many people liked PFH, so I’m sure this one will receive good and positive reactions too. Next track that caught my attention is Arronax and Weedran collaboration track ‘Acid Sunshine’ with brand new rework which I find great. Acid Sunshine got oldschool feeling but it’s well produced and during the whole track you can feel great acid elements and semi-melodies, love it. Next track is from Psilocybian and Hotep, my fellow croatians, guys who are more into full-on/psytrance side of things (Psilocybian however already made couple of Goa tracks with his side-project Screw Loose) and on The Call Of Goa they’re presenting ‘Organic Elements’ track. What can I say about this one – awesome. It got fullonish kick-drum, but melodic work and arrangement of track gives you feeling it’s 100% goa track. I just hope that they gonna do more of this stuff, well done guys. Mass Extinction track I’ve heard long time ago, but this version is slightly different and yeah it’s Nova Fractal track - a melodic bomb with fullonish vibe, but more on euphoric, euro trance side of things. I’m not that much into that electronica but this track is very nice and fans of Nova Fractal won’t be dissappointed I’m sure. Good job. Number 8 on this CD is mr. Trinodia from Sweden and his track ‘Zeta Leporis’. Oh man how I love his stuff, he is probably one of the most productive guys in scene and I think people should pay more attention to his stuff, I find it brilliant, unique style which combine best from old and new sound with great production and amazing melodies, yeah that is Trinodia. Maybe he doesn’t drift too much into different territories in his production and maybe he got his formula, but that formula is perfect and in my humble opinion, I’m gonna be happy as long as he is doing this kind of stuff, and for people who wanna hear something different, well…check his side projects. Right after Trinodia, we got Javi & SkoOma, two rising stars from Belgium, with orginal approach to Goa trance music, something that would fit super on Cronomi compilations. But hey, this track is a bit different, it’s more melodic and I understand why it’s alongside this company of melodic artists, especially after couple of listenings. Totoro will be ture floor smasher, great job. Second disc also contains couple of tracks which sounds great to me, and first one is opener from Ajanta, a guy who released an EP a year or two on UAF Records and now he is presenting his more darker and experimental approach to Goa. Thumbs up for this, it sounds way better than nitzho stuff and I hope he will do more stuff like Ouroboros track. Celestial Intelligence is another project that I find great and I’m sure you will hear more from them in future. Spiritual is a track that could be more suitable for first cd, because I find it more melodic then a lot of stuff here and style is something similar to Trinodia, very melodic with nice storytelling. Love it. Hungary doesn’t have that much goa artists, but projects such as Geneoterma and Asirion are something that caught my attention and I’m glad that guys are finding their place on big compilations. Asirion’s Muona is good example of creative and interesting goa trance, well produced and I fell in love with female chants in this track, awesome! Track on number 9 is Algae Forest from a guy who runs UAF Records alongside with Imba, it’s CoaGoa and I already heard this one on his Soundcloud long time ago and it’s just great track, beautiful morning atmospheres, amazing layers and melodies, everything in this track is just perfect and in my humble opinion is one of the best tracks on both CDs. Awesome job CoaGoa! Last track on disc 2 is from maestro Crossing Mind who blessed us with brilliant album on Suntrip in 2012 and now he returns with Trip Through Unconsciousness, a 128 BPM track that perfectly close this compilation. You know what to expect from this guy, so I’m not gonna review it, it’s 110% Crossing Mind awesomeness. Conclusion – this compilation got some really great tracks and some which I don’t find that much great but overall it’s a wonderful compilation worth buying. It needs couple of listenings to get it as a complete thing but when you get it than it will take you over and you will play it on repeat all day long. Good job Ovnimoon Records and Nova Fractal, this is hell of a rehersal for a new sub-label ‘Time Warp Records’ and I’m sure you will be big players in future! My favorites are: Mindsphere (!!!), CoaGoa (!!!), Crossing Mind (!!!), Trinodia (!!!), Ajanta (!!), Arronax and Weedran (!!), Javi & SkoOma (!!), Psilocybian & Hotep (!!), Nova Fractal (!), Asirion (!), Celestial Intelligence (!)

  16. Artist: Sky Technology Title: The Pleiadian Connection EP Label: Timewarp Records Date: September, 2013 1. Life or Coma Dream 2. Lemuria 3. Stars Come Down 4. The Pleiadian Connection My son is at the stage where if he likes something he gives it the thumbs up. If he really likes it he holds up both his hands and says, "10 thumbs up!" The other day he said my chocolate chip pancakes get 11 thumbs up. I turned around and shouted, "Put your pants back on!" Sky Technology is Dmitriy Kolosovskiy and his style is a fusion of the power and barely restrained chaos of Filteria and the hypnotic cosmic spaceflight that exemplifies E-mantra. Pretty high praise methinks. This is melodic beauty for sure, but thanks to some Italians anytime we see the word Pleiadian attached to a release we tend to lose our sh*t a little bit and maybe have some unrealistic expectations. But it is an effective marketing strategy no? I think everyone who listens to goa trance these days knows this guy is supremely talented. From his EP's Time and Space and Next Visions the ahem, sky's the limit for this guy. And for the most part he delivers here as well. He begins with a thick and complex downtempo track Life of Coma Dream. This is the coalescence of many layers and when the comparisons to E-mantra come to mind. It's beautiful. Lemuria is a no holds barred melee if a little uninteresting and Stars Come Down blows through brick walls with its power. Not a lot to chew on, but still very good. The last track typifies what I think Dmitiy is capable of. It's also some powerful, churning goa trance that will captivate as it cycles through its progressions. Loud and dense it is an example of the Filteria E-mantra hybrid. E-Teria if you will. And that's how I would describe this. Very good, but not great. I give it 7.5 thumbs up thereby ensuring that my pants remain securely fastened around my waist. Beatport Mdk
  17. Artist: Screw Loose & Lunar Dawn Title: Mental Well Being EP Label: Timewarp Records Date: Coming Soon 1. Screw Loose & Lunar Dawn - Big Crunch 2. Lunar Dawn - Ananke (Screw Loose Remix) 3. Screw Loose - Mind Jelly "It's as old as the solar system yet we've found that it contains the building blocks of life." It's a good time to be a fan of goa trance. Techniques are better, sound quality is improved...It wasn't that long ago where we were treated with only a few releases a year. There are several reasons for this, but any Dj will tell you that playing goa trance isn't going to support a Faberge Egg obsession. Maybe not even a three egg omelet habit. Thanks to labels such as Suntrip, DAT Records, Cronomi, and Zion 604 new releases are much more common keeping that spinning top going. Enter the next level of distribution and digital labels like Neogoa, UAF, and Timewarp have our proverbial cups running over. Timewarp is the newest one and has already released a string of quality goa trance EP's not to mention The Call of Goa compilation and Magnetic Field by Tavi. Sasa Dukic (better known as Psilocybian) is one of the best psytrance producers you should be listening to. His latest effort Dreamtime will be out in October and let me tell you it's off the hook. Like all great artists he isn't content to just be good, he apparently likes to challenge himself. So here as Screw Loose he teams up with Lunar Dawn (and oh yeah doesn't he have an album on the horizon?) on a three track goa EP. Mushrooms? Is that Fred Astaire? On crumpled canary paper? O...Kay. His bubbling and invasive form of psytrance serves him well. Nothing too fancy, he stays in his comfort zone with layered melodies designed to entrance. It's well produced and sounds crystal clear. They refrain from going over the top and leave the cheese in the fridge. Call it subtle goa more interested in soaking you in atmosphere and building a track rather then firing you into the clouds. I also found that the more I kept listening to it, the more I liked it. This guy is so good he could make f*cking yodeling album and I think I would get it. Until then, get some mental well being. Me likey. Coming Soon! Mdk

  21. Return to the Source - 21st Anniversary Reunion event! Friday 1st August 2014 @ The Electric, Brixton. London. 10pm-7am 21 years after their original collaboration RTTS are reuniting for a special party celebration at Brixtons Electric, formerly known as The Fridge and home to one of their famous residencies. In keeping with the original ethos of their parties, the venue will be converted into a modern day dance temple. A huge seven-pointed star will be marked out on the dance floor. Shamans will bless the space with sacred water from Glastonbury, incantations and incense; crystals will be placed at specific locations around the dance floor to focus the positive energy; thus creating the intentional Sacred Trance Floor which provided the foundation for the legendary RTTS events. The room will be decorated with fluorescent images depicting The Ancients; including Pagan, Native American, Mayan and Extra-Terrestrial deities, and the trance will begin with a colour coded guided journey through the Chakras by Leyola Antara of the Sushumna Ritual Dance Theatre and author of Kundalini Dance, Sacred Alchemical Evolutionary Keys. The whole night will be a magical indoor festival comprising fire performers, drum ritual, flying angels, market stalls and Chai tea served in the Ambient Café; and fresh fruit supplied to party-goers as they leave. 22. Artist: Various Title: Limitless Label: Koyote Records Date: 1997 1. Menis - Fluff Killer 2. Virtuart - Time Cruncher 3. Encens - Venus Zen 4. Semsis - Mind Games 5. Miranda - Timeless Worlds of Space 6. Xenomorph - Nevrotoxin 7. Underhead - Unify Feeling 8. Miranda - Concorde (Transportation Mix) 9. Encens - Spirit It Transgression 10. Ominus - Sunimo Signs of the coming apocalypse couldn't be any clearer. Of course you have your plagues, famines, and earthquakes. Those are easy to see. I mean they were written down. It's in print. But I invite you to dig a little deeper. Clearly 8 full seasons of Full House angered the powers that be. Ugh. Normally I wouldn't want to punch a toddler because they sh*t their pants and that's enough punishment, but... I believe Snoop's introduction of izzle to our lexicon and every white pre-teen's adoption of it thereafter is cause for concern. *Thumbs thru bible* Where's that in the back somewhere? The Hilton-Kardashian-Lohan triumvirate, also known as the 3 stooges principle has wreaked more than its fair share of havoc on our innocent planet. By the way can we all agree that the video camera has become the lighted movie theater floor to our downfall? Now that it is readily available mothers of three and sleeveless git-r-done hillbilly's are unleashing torrents of sex tapes in hopes of becoming the next trio of idiocy. Sorry Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama...didn't mean to rain on your GDP. But most importantly it's how this compilation never got reviewed. It's comprised of some of the biggest names in the goa trance genre with blistering tracks laden with acid and melody. 303 sounds are the rule here and it is old school all the way. Every track is stellar with absolutely zero filler. Is it because these tracks are readily available on other compilations? I will concede that it is not essential for that reason, but to not have it's rightful place on the review board is unacceptable. So if the world is gonna end and I still have electricity in my bunker underground, this one is coming with me. Mdk
  23. Artist: Lost Buddha Title: Untold Stories Label: Phototropic Records Date: March, 2011 1. Transfiguration (Anti-Gravity mix) 2. Lost in a crystal sphere 3. Psyramid (Live mix) 4. Tabernacle 5. When the universe was created 6. Southern Oracle 7. Ataraxia 8. Lost in paradise 9. Mysteries of the women "If you want a job done right I have to do it..." All right, f*ck it I'll do it... Lost Buddha is Filipe Santos as well as a truckload of other aliases. Some would add asshole. Perhaps crazy motherf*cker. But I'll throw another one at you. Genius. F*cking genius. Yep, he's alienated a boatload of people with his destructive attitude and erratic behavior., but he also made some of the best goa and acid trance around. It seemed like it was effortless for him. And you wanna talk prolific? He was everywhere. And he gave away the vast majority of his work. Just gave it to us. Like this release. Well the first iteration of this collection of tunes released as 320 mp3's on Metaphysic Records back in 2007. The one I'm reviewing is the most recent in which you had to throw down some coin. The one where only the first three tracks hadn't been released. Concerning Filipe, I don't know if he was on drugs, an alcoholic, or just a raging douche pickle. I had nothing to do with him so his actions never affected me in the slightest. People that knew him and worked with him will probably tell a different story. If they want to speak of him at all. There is no excuse for being a dick or acting hurtful and if he did that (pretty sure he did) then he deserves his pariah status. You cannot rub everyone the wrong way especially when they are trying to help you. But in the end every artist will ultimately be judged by his work and when it comes down to the music the guy was just brilliant. Layers upon layers with a powerful boost. His compositions were forever evolving and imminently danceable. His sound was full of lush atmospheres that seemed to always be in attack mode. This entire album while not the most varied goa trance is straight ahead spectacular. This comes with my highest recommendations. Beethoven was beaten and exploited by his father which led him to self medicate with drugs and alcohol. Famous playwright Tennessee Williams who wrote A Streetcar Named Desire and the Glass Menagerie was also an alcoholic and a drug user who just happened to have a sister with schizophrenia that underwent a lobotomy. Hemingway was another raging alcoholic depressive who committed suicide. Like his father. And sister. And brother. And granddaughter. Now I'm not equating what Filipe did in our little corner of the world with the colossal achievements of these gentlemen, but sometimes it is the demons, the mental illness with which the person does battle that can foster those periods of creativity. I hope Filipe was just young and immature and hadn't figured out how the world worked. But if he does have a mental illness let's hope he gets the help he needs so as to not follow the path of these unfortunate gentlemen. I don't know you enough to miss you Filipe. But I certainly miss your music. Psyshop Beatspace Mdk
  24. Artist: Various Title: Close Encounters - Psychedelic Trance From Worlds Unknown Label: Hypnotic Date: 1997 "Tell me something my friend. Ever dance with the devil in the pale moonlight?" Oh Hypnotic. Only you could make a 2 CD compilation of two artists. Sure there are multiple artist names, but it's still just two guys. Martin Nielsen and Michael Kjeldgaard. Apologies Martin I've never heard of you. But Michael...ah, Psygone by any other name is still Psygone. This is a compilation with acid trance, techno, dream trance...basically Hypnotic took all the sh*t in their pantry and made a f*cking casserole. And let me tell you there's a lot of generic sh*t (most of it from Martin) to be found here as if they got their hands on a Roland MC-505 and recorded the preset sounds and patterns. Believe me when I say my finger was constantly hovering like a Japanese tiger mom over the skip button as a lot of this is really terrible. Even Michael recycles sounds on his tracks, but by Hans Christian Andersen he still shows why he's Psygone. That snap crackle pop of his 303 is the real deal on tracks like Tasmania and Stripped. But if you're looking for Optimystique then get your sad face on because you will be disappointed. Even the goa nature is tempered by house or dream trance. Flow? You better take that cohesive idea somewhere else. But for those of us on the hunt for the elusive white whale of storming goa that hasn't been fished out of the ocean of mediocrity this is a boot at the end of your fishing line. Mdk
  25. Artist: MFG Title: Magnetic Activity EP Label: Transient Records Date: 1996 1. Magnetic Activity (Remix) 2. Overlord (Remix) Silly black man. Plastic on couch means a bad ending for you. This is what I'm talking about. Old school goa trance that is in a continual state of flux. More ethereal than physical it is evolving, spiraling, and twisting. Overlord is I believe a typo, and should be Overload, the same track from their 1996 album The Prophecy. Both are bad ass. Mdk
