  1. VA - Mysteries Of Psytrance Vol 4 Compiled By Ovnimoon and Rigel Ovnimoon Records Tracklist: 1. Gamayun - Droid 2. Stream Of Consciousness - H-Sunrise 3. Super Light In The Darkness (Twelve Sessions Remix) - Ovnimoon & Via Axis 4. Spaceworm - Braincell 5. The Black Sheep - Tron & Glitch 6. Visionary Plants - Dishka 7. Vortex - Mental Control 8. We Are One - Snag The Sunshepherd 9. The Call - Tripy 10. All Systems Go - Braincell 11. Technology - Holon 12. Fusion 303 - Skizologic & Moonweed 13. Dark Horizon - SHX 14. Skydancers - Vimana & Elegy 15. Rivershack - Declaration Of Unity 16. Deep Existence - Psydeva 17. Unidentified Flying Object - Ovnimoon & Rigel 18. Pseudo Anagram - Psychophysical Transcripts At a New Year's gig I attended this year a great full-on DJ went on right before midnight. The build-ups, the drops, the energy, it sent many a fist pumping through the air, many a hand raised to the air in ecstatic celebration, it was the most alive the crowd would be for the remainder of the evening, merely going through the motions and making the best of the Zenon, progressive and generic full-on that made up the rest of the party. It was self-affirming as I have always been a staunch believer that nothing rocks a party harder than good, old-fashioned, earth-rumbling full-on. It was great to be surrounded by a crowd that was in-tune with that attitude even if we were only able to express that appreciation for about an hour. It seems that in 2015 we may be in a bit of a full-on renaissance where more and more artists are beginning to notice the change in attitude, where the pendulum seems to be swinging away from slower-paced progressive and more toward faster and harder psychedelic sounds. True, the Israeli full-on sound has never gone away but I was never a big fan of that particular style and it is a different approach from the full-on flooding the listening markets these days. Instead, the pendulum is swinging back toward the Braincell school of full-on where the producers are bringing not only energy but also vision back to the style. This year, it's good to be a full-on fan with some awesome full-length albums already put out by Ovnimoon, Koxbox and Drumatik, along with some great full-on EPs from usually progressive producers like Middle Mode and Spirit Architect. To top it off, some jaw-dropping full-on EPs are also out there from the likes of Atoned Splendor, Imaginarium and Hujaboy. If any of that sounds kind of appealing or interesting, Mysteries Of Psytrance Vol 4 is the double-disc compilation you should add to your collection as soon as possible. Following up on the three excellent versions that came before it Ovnimoon & Rigel accumulate quite a few new faces while peppering in the usual suspect of Ovnimoon Records veterans to make sure folks will slap down a few dollars to check it out. It's an Ovnimoon Records compilation so the quality of music is excellent with two great ones by Braincell, a mind-erasing speedball from Dishka and a few masterworks by the likes of Declaration Of Unity, Vimana & Elegy, Skizologic & Moonweed and Psychophysical Transcripts. Surprisingly, Ovnimoon himself, a usual high-paced assembly line of mass psytrance producing, offers up only a "Twelve Sessions Remix" of "Super Light In The Darkness" (produced with the great Via Axis) by way of new material. The other Ovnimoon offering is his co-production with Rigel on "Unidentified Flying Object," previously released on the wildly acclaimed Omnipresent Technology album. Still, both sound great here. Disc One of Volume 4 is pretty decent though limited if listening in on a set of headphones. The highlights of this collection and the peak of creativity and vision belong to Disc Two and sound phenomenal no matter what manner of listening you choose to use. However, Disc One sounds much better on a proper stereo system so the big, bold sounds can encapsulate the senses a bit better. Of the top dogs in this 18-track compilation, Braincell thrills on "All Systems Go," Skizologic & Moonweed dress up a goa tune in full-on clothing with "Fusion 303" (and the goa chirps work very well on this full-on celebration, giving a few minutes of great diversity to the proceedings) and Vimana & Elegy make a tight and awesome stunner on "Skydancers." Top honor goes to Declaration Of Unity, however. Earlier this year, DoU member Ion Vader released his good Expansion goa EP through Ovnimoon sub-label Timewarp and the DoU gang released their Optical Delusion EP through Ovnimoon itself, showcasing their intriguing mix of forest, goa and full-on mashups. On "Rivershack," the producers encapsulate some warm and gorgeous morning sounds, complete with beautiful and catchy melodies that hum through the speakers while the full-on bass keeps everything moving along at a brisk pace. It's a surprising departure from the EPs these guys have done collectively or individually and it is fair to wonder if they just put together one gem of this sort to fit in with the focus of Volume 4. Well, they haven't! Declaration of Unity's full-length Luminescent Revolution (their full-length debut no less) is a brilliant continuation of this track and my personal pick for best full-on album thus far in 2015. But back to this one. If you're after the full-on sounds that you heard last Saturday night in the club while your coke was peaking you're probably in search of the latest albums from Hux Flux or Tristan. Mysteries of Psytrance Volume 4 is the real stuff, the good stuff, the stuff you'll hear out at the smaller local festivals where the educated DJs will be driving the throngs of dread-locked hippies completely mental. In that hour or two, don't be surprised if a few tracks from this great compilation are in that particular set. Psyshop
  2. Artist: Trinodia Title: Untuned Visions Label: Goa Records Date: April, 2015 1. Untuned Visions 2. Everything Allright 3. 4th Dimension 4. Intelligent 5. Snapshot 6. Escape 7. Change 8. Unseen 9. Voxel9 - Errors and Trials Trinodia is Daniel Eldström and he has established himself as one of the pillars of the current crop of goa trance artists with albums such as Astral Clouds, Stargazing, and Human History. But before all those great albums he was just like you, trying to find his way and discover his sound. Maybe not you. Cubase is hard, if it was easy everyone would be using it. This digital only release has been remastered and was his second album originally released back in 2004, pretty much the height of the full-on craze. And make no mistake it's full-on as Daniel will proudly tell you. But like most of his compositions the level of detail is off the charts. It's big on atmosphere and oftentimes groove. If the full-on producers today could make music like he made ELEVEN f*cking years ago maybe it wouldn't get rightly sh*t on like it does. This is good stuff with some really thumping beats and you might be able to detect a sliver of the the goa direction his music would eventually take. That being said as fresh and enduring as I think it is, it's full-on so it will never get top marks from a lot of people and that's understandable. Full-on is the red headed stepchild of psytrance. Daddy doesn't love you. I can't say this is essential, but if you're interested in Trinodia's great production of music other than goa trance then this should interest you. Psyshop
  3. Artist: Digicult Title: The Lucid Nation Label: Dacru Records Date: May, 2012 1. The Optimist (vs U-Recken) 2. Microcosmos 3. Rite of passage (vs DNA) 4. Into the heartland (vs U-Recken) 5. Matter of thought 6. Medusah (vs Tropical Bleyage) 7. Last Warning (BeatNik rmx) 8. The Moksha Medicine (vs Hux Flux) 9. Awaken the dream (Tropical Bleyage rmx) Friends. I don't haz dem. Unless you're counting internet friends and I have like...400. So sad. But Belgian duo Digicult (Davy Piessens & Bert De Decker) do and they stopped by to give a hand on their 3rd album. If you're not familiar with their style (shame on you) they create the more evolved and dare I say mature kind of full-on. First I was struck by the great artwork and it instantly reminded me of A Broken Frame by Depeche Mode. Good looking stuff. The Optimist- Here they go with fellow intelligent full-on producers U-Recken who was responsible for one of my favorite albums of all time Deeper Into Man (never mind the gay as sh*t title. What? Please, the only way that title would've been gayer is if it was called Pardon Me Sir My Penis Seems to be Stuck in Your Rectum. *Excuse me a sec...Really? You gotta be kidding me...for that? So what, I can't even make gay jokes now? Sigh* My representation informs me that I need to apologize to the gay community and all who were offended by my previous statement. And that there is nothing wrong with being gay. Said every teen that wasn't excepted by their parents. Ever. Nah, if you're gay, I say be the gayest gay that ever gayed. But for God's sake use protection. If the scientist on the forefront of gay knowledge has taught us anything is that homosexuals are disgusting and probably all have aids. Paris Hilton...alienating every single population group one stereotype at a time. Back to the track it's got a little bit of everything. The Middle Eastern twang of the sitar, evolving melodies, and sufficient sunshine to give the ol' colon a sunburn. But they do it the right way and create a nice story with some powerful breaks. Microcosmos- These two flirt with goa enough to keep them on my radar. This isn't a goa tune, but it feels ethereal with the female vocal and warm break. It's a soft track with melodies creeping in before other leave and I don't think I'm going out on a limb saying it strays into euphoric trance territory with that big, fat synth arpeggio. They wen't all Paul Van Dyk on us. Rite of Passage- See this is where I was a little nervous. If intelligent full on is surfing the big wave, then DNA...how can I put this. They're the fat guy with the cooler spilling water all over everyone as he waddles in search of the perfect spot (never close) to lay him and his 6 sandwiches down only to fall asleep to burn and attract a cadre of seagulls. Sorry gentlemen, but you can only run on your record. I bought a DNA CD once, but I didn't run on it. More like jumped on it. Repeatedly. To the absolute shock of nobody it is full-on, but it is very well produced and comes off very warm and inviting. Good for you guys. Into the Heartland- Back with U-Recken and if you'll pardon the Britney reference, they did it again. These two projects have a knack through effects and melody of turning a simple full-on track into something much more lush. The break is delicious and the whole track has an encapsulting feel similar to Iono or Tesseract Studio's progressive work. Matter of Thought- "How are you feeling? Are you in pain?" Nah, he just grazed me. And now I'm even better as this track takes thumping bass coupled with soft acoustic guitar and runs with it. But they also brought the heat with more euphoric arpeggios. Good stuff, this is how full-on should be done. Medusah- Tropical Bleyage? Sounds like happy hour at the local Applebees. Try their two entrees for under 20 bucks...it's a winner. No idea who this is, but man is it good. Layers of ripping synths, sliced strings, nimble leads, and powerrrrr!!! Not much to say, but take this one all in. Last Warning (Beatnik Remix)- "I dream...I dream I am floating on the surface of my own life, watching it unfold...observing it." I'll have what he's having. Love the sample and intro with the effect of his words repeated in an evil Hal I can't let you do that warning. Unfortunately that was the best part as the rest of the track is pure filler. Sad, that one had potential. Shoulda called U-Recken. The Moksha Medicine- "Huxley was on his deathbed when he used LSD for the final time." There are plenty of people who like Hux Flux. I am not one of them, but the collaboration here works well. Lead sounds switch and melodies fade into each other. This is back to what the duo does well. The guitar crunch fits in nicely with the robotic and futuristic vibe. Awaken the Dream- And it just don't stop as happy hour at Applebees continues with a Tropical Bleyage remix. And just like the 5th Long Island Iced Tea it goes down so smoothly making me feel warm all over. Insanely full and rich with more ancillary sounds than my knees on a crisply cool morning. Beautifully done full-on that gets mucho replays in this house. Am I going to put a bumper sticker on the back of my jeep that says I Love Full-On? Maybe. It would have to find space between No Fat Chicks and Nuke Gay Whales for Jesus, but this is a discussion we can have. This duo continues to show mastery over this genre creating deep and evolving storyines punctuated with great atmosphere. So yeah, I have no problem recommending this. 6. Declaration Of Unity Luminescent Revolution Goa Records Tracklist: 1. Obliteracion 2. Hypnotic Awakening 3. Luminescent Territory 4. Urban Jewel 5. Canadair 6. Jamaicalien 7. Magick Droplet 8. Prime Consciousness 9. Vista Point 10. Aqua Spirit Of the great full-on albums of 2015, Luminescent Revolution is my favorite. Staggering to think I was unaware of these guys until a few short months ago, staggering to think that of the trio one has a primary focus on making goa, another has a focus on making forest, yet here is a debut full-length where the vibe is warm and wonderful morning full-on. No reason to have seen this one coming which makes the impact of the thing that much more affecting. Of their history here in 2015, DoU member Ion Vader released a good goa EP entitled Expansion through TimeWarp Records. Declaration of Unity themselves then released their Optical Delusion EP through Ovnimoon and showcased an adept skill at blending forest, goa and full-on in one intriguing package, but nothing quite like Luminescent Revolution. The only piece of work similar to this full-length comes on their awesome "Rivershack" track from Mysteries of Psytrance Vol. 4. Both are released pretty close to each other, though, and hardly offered up enough time to register the direction these guys would be heading in here. And, of course, if you're unfamiliar with Declaration of Unity then all of this is pretty new to you anyway. Unfortunately, "Rivershack" does not appear on this album but it should have. It's beautiful, catchy, melodic and would have been one more shining jewel on a sterling album. Perhaps unfortunately, too, is the absence of Ion Vader's goa sounds, much more prevalent in its chirping and synth solos on Optical Delusion. The most one will get of goa on this album is the depth and emotion of the tracks themselves, and maybe that isn't such a down point. Interestingly, among all these full-on basslines and warm and relaxing morning-time vibes, more of a focus is put on the forest effects which quite often adds a lot of moodiness and atmosphere to the music. Sometimes, as on "Vista Point," things get too far into the murky forest sounds and the warm vibe of the album itself gets lost. Meanwhile, on "Luminescent Territory" standard and ultimately uninteresting full-on fails to captivate. Those are the down points. Everything else here is great. The energetic gems of "Canadair" and "Jamaicalien" are afternoon outdoor gems, ready to fill a dancefloor while offering up depth and emotion that has quite a bit of fire in its step for the at-home listener. "Magick Droplet" is a psychedelic masterwork, a track that offers up something new and impressive on each listen. "Hypnotic Awakening," "Urban Jewel" and "Prime Consciousness" are great filler tracks that would likely outshine many other tracks if they were offered up individually on a compilation to be compared against the work of their peers. The centerpieces of this album, however, the truly shining moments, are the introduction and the conclusion. The stunning and hypnotic "Obliteracion" enraptures and entrances the longer it plays on. There's quite a bit of transporting magic in this one made all the more impressive because on repeat listens the effect is replicated each and every time. "Aqua Spirit" offers up a bit of techno and progressive vibes while the full-on bass keeps everything moving along at a brisk pace. The addictive vocal samples add a lot of bounce to the track and makes this one of the more celebratory of the bunch while it offers up a bit more attitude than found elsewhere on the album. It's a great closer, definitely, but to these ears it's more of a fantastic one. Three greek producers walk into a studio and it sounds like the beginning of a bad joke. The punchline here is more funny-weird, though. Goa and forest producers, one would think, should come up with something more weird and experimental when they put their heads together. Luminescent Revolution is anything but. It is excellent full-on with a morning vibe so nothing goes about beating the listener over the head. That warmth in its sound makes it a very special listen while all the melodies, depth of sound, production values, direction changes and loving attention to detail assure this one is a keeper and a very strong listen for a great long while to come. I did not see this one coming. But knowing what I do about these guys now and how good and unpredictable they seem to be at what they do, I probably won't see their next one coming, either. And I look forward to that. Psyshop Declaration Of Unity
  7. Djantrix Twisted Reality Digital Om Tracklist: 1. Twisted Reality 2. No Side Effects 3. DNA - Djantrix & Spirit Architect The two great tracks on Twisted Reality should be paired with the three great tracks from Spirit Architect & Djantrix's Liberation EP (reviewed here). Stylistically they are absolutely identical, five tracks from three guys who are obviously having a whole lot of fun just fucking going-for-it. The lead-off track can be disregarded, it is nothing special, just common full-on where the same effects, delays and sound structures are used, making it on par with so much that is out there from lesser producers. "No Side Effects" shows Djantrix has some good talent of his own and the awesome power of Liberation was not just the result of the talents of the Spirit Architect duo. "DNA" is a fantastic showing where Djantrix and Spirit Architect team again for another winner. If all you pick up is this EP, well, great. Two out of three here are pretty damn good but it seems almost foolish not to pick up the other EP and increase the number of quality tracks by just over double. Spiritually, neither of the EPs have much to offer. This is just pure body music, intense and wildly energetic full-on. If that's appealing then you won't want to miss these two (or five) tracks. 8. Artist: Various Title: Re-Start Label: Utopia Records Date: September, 2005 1. Bizarre Contact - Freedom 2. Phanatic - Restart 3. Passenger - Tranceforum 4. Vibe Tribe - Liberation 5. Freaked Freakuency - Our Way To Paradise 6. Ananda Shake - Fashion TV 7. Elec3 - Stigma 8. Deedrah - Self Oscillation (Ananda Shake Remix) 9. Alternative Control - Have Mercy "We are the ones who must transform the dream." Hit that button Stimpy! Hit it! Make them all go away! If you're searching for that compilation that is jam packed with color by numbers full-on well step right up! Need more guitars in your psytrance? No problem! Tired of intricate melodies and deep atmospheres? Look no further. This is cotton candy sweet for those who want to remain unencumbered with thinking outside the box. Acid samples seem out of place in the way that Neil Diamond would throwing down a freestyle at the Apollo. And holy sh*t did Ananda Shake f*cking castrate the classic Deedrah goa track. Criminal. Aside from Our Way To Paradise this is the proverbial turd in a punch bowl. Why the hell do I keep doing this to myself? Psyshop - Not available? Consider it a public service.

    VA - Parallel Worlds

VA - Parallel Worlds Womb Records Tracklist: 1. Ketale - Multiple Occasions 2. Atoned Splendor - Alien Possession (Pan Papason Remix) 3. Yar Zaa - Genetic Modulation 4. Mind Evolution - Quirky Element 5. Pan Papason - Sea Breeze (Goa Is Calling Mix) 6. Double H - Rise of Glory 7. Champa - Zef (Pan Papson Ibiza Mix) 8. Psique - Astrologic 9. Pastrix - TinTiri 10. Millennium - Grab The Knowledge I tuned into this one to check out Atoned Splendor and Yar Zaa. Unfortunately, Womb Records head Pan Papason drops the ball on the Atoned Splendor remix, turning "Alien Possession" into some generic and forgettable full-on. Spanish producer Yar Zaa, on the other hand, does not disappoint (though he rarely does). "Genetic Modulation" is fantastic, an air-tight full-on production with plenty of layers, excellent effects and not an ounce of wasted space. Definitely one of the best in this collection! Pan Papason redeems himself later in the collection on "Sea Breeze (Goa Is Calling Mix)" with a solid floor-filler that brings much more passion to this compilation than his generic remix. Unfortunately, the goa mentioned in the title does not occur, it is name dropping rather than a style approach. A nod to the producer, also, for his "Ibiza Mix" of Champa's "Zef." Even if the track is not one of the highlights here it's clear that the attempt and intent are there even if the quality falls a bit short. Ketale's "Multiple Occasions" is an interesting one. I enjoy the morning progressive vibes flowing through the music but, unfortunately, the psygressive effects, build-ups and climaxes are just too generic, too by-the-numbers. Those factors kill off an otherwise good track. It's a decent but disappointing opener to the compilation. Double H's "Rise of Glory" is excellent, a persistent full-on groover that works extremely well. Psique's "Astrologic" is a full-on gem that works less successfully as dance-floor material but its trippy experiments make it a weird and wild mental experience. The collection closer on Millennium's "Grab The Knowledge" gets high marks for creativity. The track's direction changes and use of tribal samples are diverse and wildly successful making it a very sweet conclusion. There are some gems in this one. A listener has to wade through a few duds to get at them but by my reckoning five of these productions are worth hearing a few times. Parallel Worlds has some very good full-on that is less concerned with today's trends and more with good old-fashioned, passionate dance-floor energy.
  10. Spirit Architect & Djantrix Liberation EP Dacru Records Tracklist: 1. Liberation 2. Fluorescence 3. Full Moon Forget the shitty album cover, try not to pay attention to the busy and senseless graphics going on there, try to look past that overly dramatic block lettering announcing the artists' names up at the top. This is not Israeli full-on masquerading with spiritual imagery while secretly making music for the fist-pumping guido who thinks its cool to wear his sunglasses in a dark club past midnight on a Saturday. This EP deserves better than that cover. Granted, it's almost good but it does look like someone's pastel kit puked on the rest of this thing. And the dude in the middle...my guess is the graphic artist just ran out of ideas. Spirit Architect and Djantrix do not run out of ideas, though. This trio of producers absolutely kill it where it matters the most. The Spirit Architect duo are Ovnimoon Records veterans and many, many moments in these three fiery full-on tracks they showcase exactly the sort of sound that landed them that prime gig to begin with. These are three floor fillers, pumped full of energy, energy and more energy. Make no mistake, though, there is nothing derivative or typical about these productions. In fact, Spirit Architect and Djantrix use enough progressive touches throughout to add some nice variety, even the samples are held to a minimum but used effectively and all three tracks have awesome and tantalizing effects. Lest it be forgotten that these are made for the live crowd (though this is awesome at-home listening) they all feature great build-ups and climaxes that don't feel like you have heard them before. The best place to hear this is out in the woods in the middle of an afternoon where the crowd is empowered from having killed the night and have no intention of turning away from the party at hand. This is peak-hour stuff - festival peak-hour, that is, when in the afternoon everyone comes out to play - when nothing surrounds you but trees and sunlight and familiar faces and ear-to-ear smiles. Liberation is an EP that deserves to be played at those moments for those kinds of people. Great stuff on this one!
  11. Declaration Of Unity Optical Delusion Ovnimoon Records Tracklist: 1. Intrinsic Darkness 2. Parallel Deception 3. Optical Delusion "This is a rather complex issue where we come from musically speaking. And it has to do with the fact that definitions change a bit through the years and new ones occur. Generally, we have the dark psy approach which is supposed to serve the pure pagan side of trance music. We also have the goa side which sometimes has the intention to be equally old-school. While many people may see huge gaps in the these approaches, we can observe some awfully common ground. What happens if you make dark psy a bit brighter or Goa instrumentations a bit more covert with forest principles in addition?" - Spectrum of Declaration Of Unity I happen to like this project quite a bit, being a big fan of style mashing, and Declaration of Unity takes a very interesting and entertaining approach to that subject. Optical Delusion is a full-on stomper, a twisted and mystical dark psy and forest journey and a chirping and positive goa lift, all wrapped up into one bold, powerful, body-rocking package. That said, if these three Greek producers continue tinkering and experimenting with this approach, for as good as Optical Delusion is, we may find that this EP is nowhere near as good as the material that may yet emerge. "Parallel Deception" is the best track here and the strongest indication of the potential of Declaration Of Unity. It's a track where the layers of all three styles are excellently measured out. It is where the full-on drive is at its most invigorating, where the background forest mysticism tantalizes the imagination the most and where the goa effects add excellent texture to a dance floor gem making it as much a playground for the mind as for the body. It is where dark seance chants in the background can suddenly emerge in the foreground as uplifting positive shaman chants, where the dark most definitely corresponds to the light. Excellent stuff! One-third of this trio is Ion Vader (his 2015 goa EP was reviewed here) who executes on some good full-on goa ideas on the title track and "Intrinsic Darkness." Spectrum and George Koutsourelis, the third member of this creative project, also bring some great levels of work to these tracks. The forest-y mysticism is pretty enticing and all the nifty effects add some very good layers that are pretty fun to pull apart on repeat listens. Good concoctions on both but not the complete package of quality that the second track contains. Kudos to Ovnimoon Records for seeing the potential behind this one and putting their seal of approval on it. There are some very good ideas running through Optical Delusion and it's refreshing to see the label release an EP absent of any signs of progressive. As for Declaration of Unity themselves, here on their second EP, job well done, fellas! This is a good one and worth checking out. Don't be surprised, however, if by EP number four or five these gents are releasing stuff that becomes absolutely astounding. This project has the potential to be something truly remarkable. Beatport
  12. This mix represents the last entry in the mathetmatic psytrance trilogy, and my final effort at blasting out some heavy duty psytrance. I think I'm going to take a much needed break after this mix. I originally started mixing because nobody else was playing what I wanted to hear. Right now I need to find new inspiration, because when I keep playing the same type of stuff every year, I can't stay interested. I've pumped out over 60 mixes in the past 6 years, and I felt that I might as well finish where I started. My very first mix was called Midnight Complex (it was terrible, don't bother listening) so the title pays some homage to that very first mix. I also find it highlights my overall taste; high variety, complexity, and energy. So I'm going out with a bang. This one is packed with the best psytrance I could find from 2014. Huge amounts of energy in this one, and I hope I'm sending you guys off right! I'm not retiring forever, you may see a mix or two pop up from me in the future but this is the end of Ziptnf for now. Dirty Saffi - Umami

Dirty Saffi Umami Bom Shanka Records Tracklist: 1. Psychedelic Freedom Fighter 2. Is It Organic 3. Seek & Enjoy 4. Your Breath Stinks - Dirty Saffi & Satya 5. Space Rats 6. St George 7. Snowdonia 8. Coco-Nutters 9. Rock N Roll 10. Dubslap Dirty Saffi are very much a walking double entendre. By all accounts this UK husband/wife couple are very much the polite-and-proper individuals one would expect, very sweet people who give a little bit more than what was agreed upon. That is, of course, in as much of that polite-and-proper English manner as dread-locked, tattooed, facially pierced folk can be, I suppose. For instance, on a recent trip to Toronto, the Saffi duo of Psymmetrix and Nuky stayed much longer in the city than was expected and in turn offered up a couple additional gigs that were not expected of them. Leading to the next point, the name itself. As Al Psymmetrix states, "Saffi is hindi for cleaning." And a dirty cleaning is exactly what this music is. The moment these two begin to rock, politeness, manners, consideration are tossed out the window. Their sound is based on hard-rocking body music and, quite frankly, they seem to give not a fuck if you're in the mood for it or not. Umami (the fifth sense of taste for savory meats) is pretty explosive stuff. Perhaps not as rhythmically complete as their 2013 debut Beauty And The Bitch or as diversely imaginative as Psymmetrix' last solo outing on 2011's No More Milking It, but still extremely effective. If you're looking for complex melodies, enrapturing layers of sound, pretty progressive or stimulating intellect than you're looking at the wrong collection of music. This album requires that you turn the brain off so these primitive beats can go straight to the body to work their magic. There's a lot to like here if you're into full-on though I'm not sure there is one main highlight or single track that stands out from the pack. There are some tiny differences that are noteworthy, especially the fun quirkiness of "Coco-Nutters," the bombastic rhythms in the spare-no-feelings of "Your Breath Stinks," the beastly beauty in "Snowdonia," the deliciously odd imagination behind "Dubslap," the energized liberation of "Psychedelic Freedom Fighter" and the potent one-two punch of "Space Rats" and "St George." This is simple and primitive, no-frills full-on, the antithesis of the Nano sound found in most well-dressed psy club parties where sense of taste is extremely underdeveloped. Umami is good, fun, messy, sweaty music, very much a dirty cleaning for the soul, very much a meaty and savory flank of full-on goodness. Bom Shanka BandCamp
  15. Mechanical Species The Guardian Of The Forest Forestdelic Records Tracklist: 1. Guardian of the Forest 2. Freunch 3. In The Cyberforest 4. Holographic Nature Don't be thrown off by the label name or the cover art, this is a full-on EP and a damn good one at that. Because everything about that art screams forest music, maybe Mechanical Species felt obliged to use some of those wonderful effects and frequencies in his deep, driving work. It sure does add some great dimension. The openers on "Guardian of the Forest" and "Freunch" are very good, go-for-it full-on. Steady bass lines rumble through the tracks and all the effects wizardry Mechanical Species lays down is quite good. Very effective lead-ins for the highlight on "In The Cyberforest" where the suggested listening is through a proper set of speakers for optimal effects. The bass rumbles and grumbles, the effects tantalize and the pacing is deliriously good. The gorgeous piano melodies in "Holographic Nature" make this second best in the collection. The energy blitz contrasted against the sublimely gorgeous and tender keys is fascinating and beautiful. Very well done! All in all, "Guardian Of The Forest" is great and powerful full-on with mentally delicious forest touches. Kudos to this Swede for putting these two disparate styles together very well under one bold and dynamic outing. ()
  16. Drumatik Illegal Space Activities Reloaded Temple Twisters Records Tracklist: 1. Cosmic Prayer - Drumatik & Airi 2. Time Out (Edit 2014) 3. Magic Tragic (Remix) 4. Tranceformers (Edit 2014) 5. Great Escape (Edit 2014) - Drumatik & Airi 6. Scary Doors - Drumatik & Airi 7. Mirage (Edit 2014) 8. Lost In Storms (Edit 2014) - Drumatik & Atomental 9. Illegal Space Activities (Edit 2014) 10. Restricted Area (Edit 2014) 11. Inner Activities - Drumatik & Airi From what I have been able to gather, "Illegal Space Activities" was originally released in 2013, tweaked & edited in 2014 and now re-released here for 2015. I'm not sure of the back story, if Drumatik was not pleased with the original (although that version does sound very good this "Reloaded" edition does sound better, much more space in the songs, all the layers aren't bunched together here,) or maybe he felt it deserved more attention than it initially received. Whatever it is, this version of "Illegal Space Activities" is fantastic! It comes with two tracks not available on the original (three if you're fortunate enough to get the version that contains song 12 "Go With The Flow (Edit 2014)." Don't miss it if possible!) and for many of these moments, as promised with that awesome and imaginative cover art, it is a wicked full-on and twilight romp through the outer limits. There are no tracks here that are instant classics, nothing that you will likely recall the morning after, but while it is going you cannot hope for much better. If boiling energy and full-on intensity are attractive traits than do not look beyond Drumatik & Airi's stellar pairing on "Scary Doors" and "Inner Activities." Too, Airi makes a great co-producing appearance on the wicked good full-on opener, "Cosmic Prayer." That track is the best one here and solid proof that when Drumatik & Airi get their heads together magic happens more often than not. (Though that "not" part does occur on "Great Escape," one of a couple of mid-album tracks that feel less than the rest.) From tracks one through four you are provided with some stellar full-on. You get the great "Scary Doors" nestled between two not-so-great tracks right there in the middle but beginning with Drumatik's pairing with Atomental on "Lost In Storms" the twilight music is deliciously overwhelming and sends this awesome collection off to its bombastic conclusion. For fans of full-on and twilight, I highly recommend this one. It's a helluva journey and, apparently, more than a bit illegal in certain parts of the galaxy. "V/A - West"

Artist: Various Title: West Label: FreeAnce Date: December, 2008 1. Mr. Peculiar - West (Mindelight RMX) 2. Shake - Shaked World 3. Twilight - Super Sonic 4. Mindelight - Dynamite 5. Ananda Shake - Love, Secrets, and God 6. Under Beat - Turbo Brake 7. Eclypso - For the Girl 8. Mindelight & Sharigrama - We Are One (Mindelight RMX) 9. Blue MD - Higher Oh f*ck this one was hard to swallow. I'm not going to beat around the bush with this one. I'm just going to give you some advice that you should really follow. Ok...just skip the first two tracks unless you feel like stabbing your ears with a sharpened pencil. It's not until Super Sonic that you get to some full on that isn't bottom of the barrel type stuff. There is of course a western theme so you have to put up with harmonica's and boogie woogie type nonsense. If you didn't know that when you bought it or for some ridiculous reason bought without listening then please follow the following steps. Go to the nearest automobile, open the car door and stick your penis in, and then repeatedly open and close the door with force. Listening to this will have the same effect. It's science. Where were we? Love, Secrets, and God is the type of full-on that is what you would expect Ananda Shake to create. It's like cotton candy, good for a time but after a bit it'll just give you a headache. Turbo Brake was so unflinchingly uplifting I felt it should've come with it's own hashtag. #suckmybuildup or #Ish*tflowers. One of the shining lights on this disaster was For the Girl with its funky bass line groove, but it eventually reverted to full-on diarrhea. Mindelight seems to be the chief offender here (Dynamite deserves two f*ck yous) and his third track makes me wish someone made him go get pizza so they could replace his tracks with the sound of dial up internet. The merciful final track provides the final kick in the pills with a house like vocal that claims she will take me higher. And what could be more psychedelic than a trumpet. Get the f*ck outta here with that. So let me be clear. There is absolutely nothing psychedelically redeemable about this compilation. It's full-on to the bone and mostly sh*tty full-on that as you can tell by the beginning of the review will bring about certain dry heaves. Sorry about your junk...it's the only way you'll learn. Psyshop *Link provided so you can be as miserable as the music made me Mdk
  18. Open Tribe Between The Kicks Monkey Business Records Tracklist: 1. Dread Dean - Yajamahe (Open Tribe Remix) 2. Madness 3. Monragala 4. Simple Formula A great four-track outing with one official remix, one unofficial remix, one essential listen and a rollicking climax of "Simple" full-on. Not a bad way to begin at all, taking Dreaddean's sinisterly good "Yajamahe" and remixing it to great effect (seriously, do not miss the original version http://www.ektoplazm.com/free-music/dreaddean-patterns). Here, Open Tribe scales back on the forest-heavy chirps of the song, messes around with the fascinating tribal chants and comes up with structural patterns that makes for one delightful interpretation. A very, very good opener! I spent most of "Madness" wondering how close Open Tribe was daring to get to The Prodigy's "Smack My Bitch Up" and wondered if he was striking on the same chords and melodies by accident. Til later in the track he slides right into a note-for-note reworking of the classic. A remix in every way except for the title itself. Good full-on but I wonder if it is disrespectful to not acknowledge the source material. "Mongarala" should make it on to your personal must-hear list, this one is beautiful full-on. Moody, evocative acoustic guitar samples, wicked good energy that never gets overwhelming and melody and sample drops that occur in exactly the right places at exactly the right moments. Tastes change throughout the years but the truly great tracks will never leave your collection. "Mongarala" is one of those tracks. It is an outstanding accomplishment. "Simple Formula" is less on the creative front and more of a straight-forward full-on floor-filler, very much a testament to its name for pleasing, got-for-it, party-time psytrance. A good and clean conclusion to an often surprising and very well made four-tracker. It is full-on but it is also surprising how often Open Tribe keeps the rowdiness from getting in your face. Much like that beastly storm gathering up power on its album cover, "Between The Kicks"' allows you to watch the awesome beauty from a safe distance while still managing to awe with its earth-rumbling and awe-inspiring sounds. After a several initial releases on Iboga, the duo crafted their own unique morning sound that resulted in releases on Tribal Vision, Flow, Plastic Park etc.. Shortly after, their debut album "Support Normality" Flowjob began touring the international trance circuit, playing around the world in countries like, Japan, Australia, Mexico, Brasil,Israel, Usa Canada and most countries in europe at festivals such as, Fusion, Glade, Maitreya, Full Moon, Midnight Sun, & Universo Parallello, and many others.. "Zentertainment" their 2nd album was released in 2008, with a more upbeat vibe.. Tracks like "Tomorrow Returns" and "Dont believe in Mirrors" quickly became dancefloor hits. In 2009, Mads left the project due to injuries that made long studio sessions and flights impossible. In 2011 came the third Album "Sway" on iboga Records, and after several EPs and compilation releases the 4th Album USB Ready came out in November 2013. USB Ready a more mystic and dark side of Flowjob, though as always from a humourous perspective.Joakim is now working constantly in the studio when not on tour, new tracks are constantly in process and 2014 already has many releases and gigs planned. 20. Artist: Various Title: Remixed Label: HOM-Mega Productions Date: April, 2005 1. Psysex - New Wave Hooker (Domestic & Pixel Remix) 2. Psysex - Altered States (X-Noize Remix) 3. Psysex - Come In Peace (Illumination Remix) 4. Psysex - L.S.Dance (Psysex Remix) 5. Psysex - Alien Cop (Eskimo Remix) 6. Psysex - High Times (Nick Remix) 7. Children of the Doc - Bionic Bong (GMS Remix) 8. Sex On Mushroom - Dirty 80's (Wrecked Machines Remix) 9. Psysex - New Wave Hooker (Violet Vision Remix) 10 Psysex & Star-X - Star Sex "Would you describe, in your own words, what happened that night." Who died? The reason I ask this is because when this was first recorded as sold on Discogs back in 2008 (three years after it's original release) it sold for a paltry $5.66 $5.66. My kids can't get a happy meal for that. Now it's common knowledge that people on Discogs can be somewhat delusional when setting an asking price. Admit it...it happens. They tend to overvalue. For example there is a user that is asking for $53 for this mid 2000's Israeli full-on. C'mon that's just off your meds ridiculous. Udi's grandma needs to get back to baking cookies and stay off the damn internet. I know he's your bubbie, but he'll be alright. However in November of 2014 it sold for $25. That's an increase in value of 442%. You don't get that kind of appreciation unless somebody is pushing up daisies. Trust me this Whitney Houston cocaine mirror is gonna put my kids through college. Too soon? So now I'm scouring the internet to see if Udi died and not appear like the biggest dick in the universe. Found his Facebook page and he recently celebrated a birthday so I'm guessing he's still of this Earth. Seems like a likable enough guy. But let's be honest this album is a compilation of Israeli full-on remixes that will stay with you about as long as dry fart. I would argue the cover is more well known than the music found inside. It's actually not that bad even though it's close to as full-on as you can get. I found it enjoyable in spots and really liked the breakbeat un-full-on Violet Vision Remix of New Wave Hooker. But an almost 450% increase in value? Either one of these artists kicked the bucket or someone's about to go full-on OJ. Mdk

  22. Artist: Various Title: Machine Head Label: Phantasm Records Date: May, 2004 1. Eskimo - Show Me the Money 2. Black and White - Flipper 3. Z-Machine - Drinking Dreams 4. Mindfield Vs. Dickster - Slide (Groovy People Remix) 5. Azif Ewuz - Hyperdelic 6. Jumanji - In Da Jungle 7. Eskimo & DJ Vlado - Jinja Ninja 8. Eskimo - Party Pooper 9. Dynamic - Virus Infection 10. Gundam - The Strike "Got a machine head, better than the rest!" Machine Head by Bush in the 90's was the mother f*cking jam! Decked out in Timberland boots and a flannel shirt I was ready for a night out. A decade later a new machine head erupted onto the scene which quickly had me dusting off my Pearl Jam CD's. But this ain't grunge. It's just...grungy. Full-on by the usual suspects. From 2004. Let that sink in for a minute. Hindsight is always 20/20, but for God's sake the first track is called Show Me The Money. Looks like it pays to be the progeny of John Phantasm cause his boy is all over this thing. That said there are some bright moments. Jumanji's In Da Jungle being one of them. Wait did I say moments? Clearly I misspoke. This is like boner pills for full-on lovers. Music like this makes labels like Compact Records wake up with night sweats. Virus infection? Isn't that redundant? Bah, this whole f*cking compilation is redundant. Clearly this is for lovers of carbon copy cut 'n' paste full-on only. So...when's Nirvana getting back together? Mdk

Bolts through that motherf*cker with middle fingers blazing* FREEDOM!!!!! Yeah it was this painful. We all know what this is. Avi Algranati has been around for a long time and has had some good tracks. Let's face it when you're in the business for two decades you're either a big part of it or you just didn't know when to leave. But really...was anybody asking for this? I know now it's his 20th anniversary, but he did this four years ago delivering the full-on remixes of his full-on that nobody was craving. At some point you have to admit you have a problem so you can get help. Look I'm not gonna lie to you some of the tracks had moments where I was bouncing. But it's Halloween candy in late November. Yeah you'll eat it, but soon you'll look in the mirror and descend into a self hating shame spiral and buy a gym membership that you can't afford and that you won't use. Maybe it's time to stop trotting the old whore out front and trying to make a buck on how she used to do reverse cowgirl. Beatport Mdk
