  1. I've recieved some stuff over the past 2 days: Etnica - The EP (yaaaay! my 90's etnica/pleiadians/cc collection is almost complete now, just missing the lunar civilisation cd single) Human Blue - Stonehenge (another step towards completing the spiral trax collection, at least the older stuff) Qlab - Q1 Pan Tarhei - Magick Tromesa - Stereopian (for the singles, I'm just missing 013 and the last 3 now) Elysium Vs Worm - Yemaya (FINALLY! Such an awesome 12", yet didn't find a copy in good enough condition until now) Laughing Buddha - Karma (just missing one TIP single now (031), then it will be complete!) Various - Goa Räume 2 Various - POF Trance Collector vol. 2 Various - Nataraja (I had the vinyl already, but what the hell =) Discogs is still a bit shaky so no links - didn't have the patience.
  2. David, update the page already! I need to order two copies PRONTO! =) I've been sitting here reloading it for hours...
  3. Heard procs play the duck off track live last night... Holy fucking mother of hell.
  4. Amen! In order to be successful, you need to do your own thing and do it well. Sounding like everyone else is not a recipe for success. Sandman has always been something unique and special - it might not appeal to everyone, but if you're making psy-trance you are in a niche genre anyway, so why not make the most of it? I find it difficult to see how anyone could be disappointed with a Sandman album that is dark, weird and eclectic - The darker and weirder, the better! It will just show how flat and dull the current full-on is, and someone really needs to show that... Psy-trance shouldn't be everyday music, it's special music. And Sandman has always been among the most special, so I think the Sandman fans are very open for strange and mindfucking music.
  5. You KNOW you can count me in on this =) Looks really solid, have heard some of the tracks before and those alone make it worth every penny.
  6. You dont often have an LFO on the pitch of a sound, do you? That's usually just done on effect sounds, and those don't count anyway =) An LFO on the filter will make the sound appear to travel up and down in frequency, which might be what you're referring to. But that's just an illusion as the "focus" shifts between the overtonesand undertones of the sound, while its original note and octave remains intact.
  7. I think it's because it's "close enough" and that the frequencies are still in the right position relative to eachother, i.e. the "spectral width" of the notes/key/mode isn't altered, it's just shifted. (did that make any sense at all?)
  8. For spectacular scando-style nature, norway is the most accessible, but northern sweden is utterly amazing too. But it takes a LONG time to go up there by train... As for Sweden, here are a few quick things: It's currently about 30 degrees here in Stockholm. But in case of rain, you could maybe bring a long-sleeved shirt and an umbrella. If you're going into the mountains you could do with a windbreaker and/or thin longsleeve shirt to block off some mosquitos... but it's really hot up there too right now, at least in the daytime. Stockholm, Gothenburg ("Göteborg" in Swedish) and Malmö are the 3 largest cities, in that order. I think you'll have more fun in these than in smaller cities, unless you're interested in the Swedish countryside, ofcourse =) Some suburbs could be hostile at night, but it aint no bronx =) And I have a hard time seeing how you could end up in those anyway. Just be aware of pickpockets in the main shopping streets of the big cities, as with any european city. As for restaurants I'm no expert since I'm both allergic and a vegetarian (and thus don't bother eating out much). I could think of more fun things to do with the money anyway... Flea markets are not my thing either, but I could point you towards some record shops (of all genres) in Stockholm if you're interested (let me know in a PM). Since you're not going by car I don't think you'll want to buy tons of stuff anyway, it's hard to fit furniture on the train =) As for general tips... see if you can book some hostel beds etc ahead of leaving, as it might save you some money. Google should be able to help you find some. Sweden and Norway don't use the euro, we have our own separate currencies. In Stockholm, SOME stores accept the euro but they're very few and just concentrated to the tourist areas. If you're really nice and polite I could guide you through Stockholm since I am on vacation as of today =)
  9. Vibrasphere - San pedro, perhaps? haven't heard the talamasca track so I don't know.
  10. You obviously haven't heard this recording. Koxbox is, admittedly, a bit of an aquired taste. I didn't see their greatness when I was your age, but today I realize that they were truly the leaders of the genre in terms of psychedelic music. It's truly art, not just some colourful party music. I don't think everything they did was great, there were a fair amount of misses among the hits, so to speak... but at their best, koxbox were the masters of the genre and this live recording is from their creative peak, IMHO. Truly amazing stuff. If you want to discuss koxbox any further, I suggest starting a separate thread. I'd be glad to contribute, but let's bring this one back on topic now.
  11. There are some efforts being made to clear the rights for a re-release actually - so until that is completely settled for a yes or a no, I'm not spreading anything. And I have a copy of the original CD master as well, so no need to rip the vinyl =)
  12. As a manic collector I have aquired some super-rare stuff over the years. First some Blue Room Released goodies: Etnica - Intense Visitation Never released first version of the Tribute 12", about 50 copies made. I have two =) This is the #1 jewel for me personally, as I absolutely love the track. Etnica - Asian Code Another version, but without Tribute - this has Astral Way on the flip. 6-10 copies made (!!!!!) Koxbox - Live At Burning Man 1996 Double vinyl album set for release on Blue Room (BR031). 9 vinyl test pressings made, no CDs were ever pressed, but there was a master made. Fools And Tools - Hundreds Of Sunsets This was originally set to be released on Blue Room, BR063, but since they took too long to get it out they released it on Twisted instead. But there were about 3-6 test pressings made with the BR063 catalogue number, and these have different track versions, not released anywhere else. I have two of these, since I bought all the leftover blue room office stock this past winter. This is not on Discogs yet, since I need to figure out what these other mixes are called. I know that at least one of them is unreleased, and thats the best one too =) Johann - ??? This was the original BR027, but it was cancelled and Etnica's "Plastic" was released instead. There are only 6 test pressing in the world. Not on Discogs yet since I need to figure out what the tracks are called. Various - More Signs Of Life There was a full triple vinyl version scheduled for release, but it was cancelled at the last minute and they just made a single 12" sampler instead. 6-9 test pressing of the full compilation were made. Not on Discogs, I've been too lazy to submit it. And from some other labels: Goat Ranch 7 - Ain't Goin' To Goa Quirk remixed this Alabama 3 track without permission under the Goat Ranch 7 alias, and pressed around 50 single-sided whitelabel copies for Pyramid / Return To The Source 004. AWESOME track! Goat Ranch 7 - Specific / Nanoteque Krembo 008, never commercially released. Don't know how many were made, but it's very very rare. Noth tracks were released on vinyl later though, on Psychedelic Krembo 3. The Infinity Project - Time & Space EP BFLT09 on dragonfly, promo only that was never commercially released. I think 50 copies were made but I haven't been able to confirm this. I also have all but one of the known Infinity Project Releases on obscure UK label Fabulous as well as their 1991 debut on Atmosphere Records. There's probably more that I can't recall right now, but I have to dash off to the gym now =)
  13. Turntables do change tonal pitch when altering the play speed, ofcourse. BUT - there are some CD decks that do NOT do this! They use real-time time-stretching in one form or another, to have the tonal pitch intact, or even independently adjustable from the tempo pitch. This would ofcourse allow for amazing fine-tuning of track transitions. I'm not sure which models/makes have this feature, but I've seen it mentioned for many years... Now I'll cook up a simplified example: If a track has a 16th note bassline, all on the same note (say, C), thats the only note we have unless there are melodies or pads playing. Drums don't have a tone, normally. Sure you can pitch a kickdrum and it will sound brigther or deeper, but it has no basic resonant frequency. So in mixing something else in on this 16th note bassline track, anything in C will work, regardless if it's C minor, C major, C phrygian or whatever mode you can come up with. EDIT: Actually, anything that has C in its scale will work. C doesn't even have to be the base note of the scale. So our imaginary track in this example is mixable with almost anything! /EDIT So let's complicate things a bit: If it has two notes in the bassline, C and D# for example, and maybe a pad playing in these two as well, you cannot from this alone deduct wether the track is in normal C minor or in phrygian mode, because they both "fit". However, it's not C Major, because there is no D# in C major. So what I'm trying to get to is that the range of compatibility is much greater than your theory allows - As long as the individual notes played can all fit into a reasonably normal mode it will sound ok. Since the "mixing area" of a track is seldom filled with every note the key or mode of the track allows, you don't run into unmixable tracks as often as you'd think. Phrygian (popular in old goa) is a bitch though, because of its two half-tone intervals per octave. These can really screw you over if you end up with a mix containing 4 half-tones in sequence, like C, C#, D, D#. This will sound awful, and requires some serious EQ skills to pull off. But a transition between two tracks in major keys can result in a phrygian mode if they're in the proper different keys. So song A will sound cheerful and song B will sound cheerful, but in the transition between the two it will sound ominus and mysterious. So while it may be technically and musically kosher, it might screw with the emotional flow of the mix because of how the two scales interact. The easiest way to check this is by testing it. If it sounds ok it is ok. I hope this helped =)
  14. The pictures are the tracklist =) There was a north-american version (if memory serves me correctly) with a tracklist, but I really like the concept of nameless tracks. Brilliant album btw!
  15. Yeah, he's certainly one of the pioneers of the sound, always pushing forward. Also, I can't really recall hearing anything from him that was ever bland or dull - there was always something special about his tracks. What's he up to these days btw? (The irony here would be if he's into progressive house...) I need to dig out the two Snake Thing singles on TIP when I get home, it's been way too long since I listened to those.
  16. It has NOT been hacked - anyone saying so are just spreading rumours or making shit up. This is what's posted on the discogs forum by Nik, one of the two people working full-time with Discogs: So, there you have it. For more info, try to check the source in this thread - it's slow but should be working if you're just a bit patient.
  17. A joke doesn't have to have a punchline, it can also be a sentence expressed in a humourous or light-hearted fashion. This is how I read E.P.'s stuff about country music, while others here clearly took it completely seriously. I'm normally a pretty serious person both on- and off-line (I rarely fool around with nonsense posts/threads etc) so this is unsual coming from me... but really, lighten up. A person that I think should worthy a mention in this thread is Gilbert Thevenet. While he might not have been the most influential person ever, his sheer amount of output qualifies him for the history books I think. He was also around from the very beginning, so I consider him one of the core people of the genre. And for those who have no idea of who I'm talking about, Gilbert is the man behind Trans'Pact Productions and aliases like Guarana Cupana, Subliminal, D.M.A., N.A.T., Goa Experience, Progressive Transe, Martin Cooper, Loren X, and of course Asia 2001. Probably a whole lot more too, but since Trans'Pact and it's sublabel Subliminal were very secretive about the real names behind the release, it's hard to tell.
  18. I have listened to psy/goa trance for 11 years and I have seen them live. I've even played at the same party, right after their set (and I actually got big applause afterwards, which they did not =). And I actually agree with Cinos - while I understand and respect that music is an individual thing, I for one don't consider them very influential or interesting musically. They failed to impress me live as well, on all occasions that I've seen them ( I can't recall how many times it's been). If some of you think Logic Bomb is the greatest ever, thats fine ofcourse. But I personally don't get much out of their music neither for home listening or seeing them live, and I think my experience in this scene should rule out the possibility that it's due to immature ears or whatever. To me there is nothing to "get", it simply doesn't do anything for me. You're all just bashing Cinos because he's young and thus, according to the logic you seem to use, somehow not entitled to an opinion such as that... but all these rebuttals praising Logic Bomb like they are gods of the genre are just pathetic. Objectivity went out the window for you at least as much as for Cinos when he made his initial statement. And kids, lay off E.P... why is it that ANYTHING he says must be twisted around and used against him, no matter what? You're acting like it's some manhood ritual where you must prove that you can out-argue a veteran, no matter the topic or logical justification. If he makes a joke, you're on him like starved wolves, but you leave the bazillions of outrageously silly threads alone as long as he's not posting. Grow up. Now, back on topic: As for the most influential people on this scene, I must add Masayuki Kurihara (Masa / X-Tron) and Ray Castle. Do not underestimate their value in the early days... and Masa is still a very important name thanks to his parties etc.
  19. Koxbox - Life Is... (Blue Room CD5" version, already had the vinyl - now I need the version on Orange Records with the extra track...) (edit: the word "Life" was somehow dropped from the title)
  20. Goddamnit I recognize those sounds... not the track itself, but the sounds used. But I can't remember what artist this is! Very frustrating... I know I have a track somewhere with almost the exact same sounds, but a different arrangement and different melodies, so it's probably the same artist. I'll come back to this thread if/when I figure it out =)
  21. You guys need to start using Discogs.com... but it's down at the moment =) I can verify that the Trance XPress 12" is indeed by the very same Dimension 5, but there was a techno act called Dimension 5 too, that later changed their name. My vote would go to the remix of Iron Sun, that I think is only ever released on a 12" on intastella... never saw it listed on a CD.
  22. I don't have it, but I think the alternate mix was more adapted for radio play, hence the shorter play length.
  23. http://www.procs.info in short: Swedish guy named Mikael Stegman, album coming on Trishula Records.
  24. 4 new, all CDs: Orion - Metamorpheus Various - Distance To Goa 1 (sadly the re-release with green cover) Various - Distance To Goa 2 (sadly the re-release with green cover) Various - Full On Vol. 1 (had the vinyl already) no discogs links 'cause I'm lazy like that.
  25. X-Dream have always experimented, even though most people think of a straight 16th note bassline when speaking of them... But just skip through the tracks on Irritant and compare the bass styles and you'll see what I mean. But as for the craziest bass work ever, I will vote for Procs - it's really TOTALLY different from everything else. Man I can't wait for his album... gonna try to catch him live again this weekend too.
