Dumb jokes and superflous comments aside, but Nas' debut album is one of the best releases I have ever heard in my life. As far as hip hop music goes, it is the finest example of a classic mash up between unsurpassed production and furious lyricism, before Nasir Jones went under the whole G rap/thugs/pimps/$$$ trend... My favorite hip hop album, along with the amazing Organized Knonfusion trilogy

I don't think radi reads, he skims through these pages while oscillating up and around the worlds of the internet. Anyways, try out these ol' gems, since you put a TIP track as an example: V/A Black Rhino Orichalcum & The Deviant- Orichalcum & the deviant + just about any pre '99 Psychaos track might do it for ya

Filteria- tiny universe I actually gave this one some thought, and following the criteria set up by some users in this thread, I came up with this track. Why? Well, I think this is where Filteria really shined through, where he really displayed all of his talent, and portrayed a modern classic, with an enormous dose of old school energy. While many of his other work is said to be over the top or flooded with random synths and melodies or being too imitative of the Pleiadians or whaetever... This is just great- it has an old school touch, while soundind unquestionably modern, it is both psychedelic and melodic, IMHO, it is accompanied by a wonderful sample, it has a spectacular breakdown in its mid section, after which it finally builds up to a grand finale, with a superb melody, which is very well constructed, hypnotic, while not being over the top. My two cents. What do y'all think?

Once again I am broke and in desperate need of money. It might seem strange to you, but if you were living somewhere in eastern Europe, I reckon you'd understand. Being chronically broke around here is the name of the game. So, in order to pay my phone bill and all, I am selling the following itmes. To my knowledge, they are considered rarities, but correct me if I am wrong: Texas Faggott- Texas faggott (1999) (Psy Harmonics) http://www.discogs.com/release/58805 Taiyo- Tranzen EP (1994) (Step 2 House Records) http://www.discogs.com/release/109386 V/A Shangri La- a goa trance compilation (1995) (Step 2 House Records) http://www.discogs.com/release/73115 As usual, I don't ask for a fixed price, just give ma a fine offer for all three together, and we can work out a fine deal I might even come up with some more items for sale... I hope, that is...

Hey Moti! I had a fine deal with sualk AKA Klaus from Austria once. I sold hime a huge bulk of around 90% of my Etnica/Pleiadians vinyl releases... He sent me the money, and it was a pretty large sum too. I even wanted to trade, as I thought his budget might handle a trade better, but he felt very uncomfortable about trading, and he insisted on a purchase. The money arrived in about two days time, I sent out the package, the guy was as happy as a new born baby... Turns out it was a great idea not to have traded with the dude...

In this very moment, as we are having this interesting debate, such a line already exists on this forum! If you look (and I reckon you alreday have throughout the years gone by) at the entire review section, except some Speedy J, Sven Vath, Plastikman (I think I saw a review of a 12" of his), some ol' Platipus classics, this forum is ALL about goa/psy/full on/suomi (the list goes on and on...) releases. Only recently, because of a great lack (as you correctly pointed out) of true psychedelic music, or better yet, of psychedelic music as we once knew it, have we (the reviewers) started to look elsewhere and seeked out music which until recent times barely ever found its way in the review section. And I think you know that- just skim through the 1990/1994-2004 review section, and look at the percentage of psy trance music reviewed there: it is an overwhelming majority.
-
You see? Reviewing the likes of Extrawelt, Martinez ( ), Son Kite or whoever else would be expanding other people's horizons, and reviewing other artists Ormion listed would not? That is what I was talking about: a line must be drawn, or we draw no line at all. It does not work on a level similar to this: "Some acts and albums are suitable for the review section because they will get approved by most users, and others are not cool because they risk to get flamed by an avalanche of furious elitists and purists." Whatever the psytrance community is about, by ruling out certain acts and releases, and accepting others with both arms widely opened, not only are you not widening horizons, you are only narrowing them down to a determined selection of music, which has the highest chance of getting praised by forum users.
-
Nemo, I do agree with you, but try to understand Ormion's point before thinking he's just yapping nonsense If this forum was left exclusively to true psychedelic acts reviewing only, this forum is pretty much dead. May be so. Likewise, if you let various other acts/subgenres/albums sneak in, you risk the same end. Why? Because by suddenly broadening the field of acceptability of what is considered psychedelic music, this forum WILL lose whtever it was originally about. It will lose some of its core "fan base" and elder users, simply because they won't find any relevance in what will start flooding the review section. Whether that is good or bad is not up to me. But it will happen. On a personal level, I wouldn't mind. Thus far, you may or have not noticed that I enjoy all aspects of electronic music, except dub or that atrocious sexy-house thingy.

Your relentless will to constantly urge other users into coming back to your always-on-top sales thread manifests qualities of a skilled tradesman. It is a pity though, that your never ending pursuit of that bear beer keeps the butterflies flying around & outta your wallet.

Oops, I myself forgot to check out Trold's album. Gotta get it get it!

I dunno why I posted in this thread. I didn't spam. I did not agree or disagree with any member on anything. Oh yeah, Elysium's music... But I still don't know why I posted in this thread...

Hey there djmeghan, your minimal techno/tech house mix really got excellent feedback from my friends last night We had some wine and all, and I had no idea what to put on, so I took a look at my recent downloads folder, and saw this "LaLa" titled file, and the first thing that came into my mind was that DJ LaDiDa (I reckon you know her) who had that smash single Bullet some years back... So there you have it- first we all had some quality retro time with Bullet, and then your set took us by surprise. Very well, aw fuck it, exceptionally well done!!! :clapping:

Gus Till - Best Of The Rhino Years Vol. 2
rino replied to U.F.Orb's topic in Artist News and Labels announcements
Oh my! A collab between TF and Gus sounds too awkward to be true! I really wanna hear that one! And Mudless... Aw, yes, Mudless is by far my favorite proggy track of all times! It certainly is the main reason why I put on Third Flight so much -
My immaculate discogs review : What could I add that hasn't been already said about this stentorian release? One vinyl, two tracks, one track per side, and the toughest call is to decide which one of the two is regarded as the ultimate goa trance classic! And tighten a rope around my neck and I still wouldn't know... While side A is definitely the one everyone knows and seems to love, it is for no reason so. This is, hands down, a career defining track, THE tune that made me put these italian lads on the top of the heap. A highly psychedelic and up-tempo track, with not much time to rest or breathe, as it is really packed with a complete arsenal of sounds constantly building onto each other, making it hard to believe such complexity was even possible way back then! I don't even know many today's artists who can reach such layered climaxes, or even create melodies as the lead one here. I won't stop to describe it, as everyone seems to know it justifiably by heart already! The lead melody unleashed on this track, preceeded by one of the most memorable samples ever, just has to be one of the wildest and most intense rides goa trance has ever taken me through. A track which has enough attitude to take on any modern production, IMO, and its magnitude can only be compared to... I don't know, the Trojan Horse maybe? ;-) It introduced me to this genre in the first place, and I can still remember my heart bursting out my chest when I first heard it, as it was nothing similar to any of the stuff released before. An impeccable classic! You shouldn't even have trouble tracking it down, as it appeared on quite a few various artists compilations. Side B, on the other hand, has Antonomasia, which I initially kind of neglected. But only for a while though, as the previous track had me hooked badly. And now I'm hooked to both of them. Well, to put in plain terms, this track has everything you'd expect from these guys back then, and through its almost eleven minutes it displays everything they were good at! Amazing melodies coming from all over the place. Intense, complex, acidic and completely in your face sounds are constantly coming in and out of the track; they develop, climax and sneak out, only to find themselves replaced by even crazier sounds. My favorite of them all would just have to be the marvellous out-of-this world melody kicking in at 04:25!!! How blissfull!!! This is a sample free, old school monster that could still stomp through your whole neighbourhood and leave any block so shook it would take weeks to get rid of the after shock. I really want to find out what were they thinking or taking to produce music so beautiful... The influence of this 12" on the future development of the whole goa/trance scene is beyond words. I would even go so far and dare say that only around half a dozen other 12" releases stirred up the whole scene as much as this did. Without a doubt a milestone release in electronic music in general, and along with the Pleiadians' Identified Flying Object album, this stands as the magnum opus of this extremely talented italian collective. A tough choice between the two, but that might only make you understand even better how good this truly is when I dare compare a two track vinyl release with an entire and proper album. Essential in every sense of the word! P.S.: The only problem is that the chances of somebody "stumbling upon" this release are as slim as making out with Mona Lisa. I keep my copy concealed behind a double protective window with ultra sensitive heat sensors, impenetrable even with x-ray eyes. Whatever. Do not be without this!

Asura, since you went heavily off topic, I won't follow you and spam my own review thread, BUT... 1) Once I pay MY OWN money for a release, I am entitled to expressing MY OWN opinion in any possible way I feel like, and especially on a public forum. Whether it is positive or not, that is NONE of your business, so please, stick to reviewing only. 2) Does the fact Etnica requested Aes Dana to do the remix make the track necessarily good? No. 3) For your information, Aes Dana is most probably THE producer who made me start liking ambient/downtempo music, and I appreciate his music and releases very much. Does that mean this track is good? No, it sucks. Badly too. And I am entitled to write that a thousand times over and over and over again. Why? And why not? It is, after all, my opinion. I am very, but sincerly very happy that you enjoy that track so much, beacause it just makes me glad to see people from all around the globe connecting to music and all, but please, keep your frustrations out of the review topic. We all cannot like the same things, and we are all allowed to express our opinions however we want. Be it rude or not, it is not up to you to judge me. I will not edit or do anything to my original post, as I think it is good the way it is.

As far as compilations go, I'd recommend: V.A. Peace Therapy vol. 2 (2006) (Kagdila Records) It's not really ambient, but very fine chill/downtempo.

what ever happened to crop circles "tetrahedron"
rino replied to technosomy's topic in General Psytrance
As far as my knowledge goes, money is the issue. I think too much money has been asked by some of the ex-Crop Circles members in order to licence those tracks for publishing. Same reason why heavily sought after albums like "I.F.O." won't ever be re-released; they ask for too much money. But please do correct me if I am wrong. -
After all these years, "Dreamfish" still has the potential to mesmerize the most demanding hard core chiller. My ears still acknowledge Hymn as the nicest ambient tune of all times. By saying that, though, I am certainly not being god awfully original, but I could care less. The first 46 minutes and some change of this album, which consist of two tracks, School Of Fish and the before mentioned Hymn, are the most enjoyable moments ambient music has ever provided me with. Nowadays I rarely ever play this album beyond Hymn's ending point, and to be frank, I never thought I'm missing out on that much... Hymn is the official definition of the less is more theory, as its structure and melody are fairly simple, but you won't track down a redundant milisecond in it. The first two tunes are sonical voyages, launching you on some Voyager, Star Trek like journey! Needless to say, they more than justify the purchase of Dreamfish. An essential release, whether you're a Namlook freak or not.

What music are you listening to right now?
rino replied to Sputum Rotgut's topic in General Psytrance
Dreamfish- Dreamfish (2001) (Avatar Records) (reissue, remastered) The first 46 minutes of this release contain the finest two ambient pieces of work I have ever heard. The other two tracks are nothing spectacular, but good God, School Of Fish and Hymn are just -
Hahahaha, I like the way you always stand up for the guy. It seems you really like the guy. And let me tell you something: I use to be an enormous fan of this man/legend, but I suddenly lost interest in his music/style about 15-16 months ago... I can narrate epic novels about mr. Hawtin's releases I own, and the countless times I've had a blast listening to them (ALL originals), but since you're such a crazy ass dedicated fan, I won't share with you a great good deed I'm about to do with my Richie/Plastikman stuff... You'll think I went bananas! P.S.: I agree with you though, objectively speaking, DE | 9 Transitions is his magnum opus, for whatever that's worth now... I simply don't enjoy that music nowadays. I, on a personal level, still enjoy Decks, EFX & 909 the most though: the part where he plays around with Minus Orange/Minus Yellow/Let Your Body Learn is too good to be true. IMHO, his legacy and legendary status are guaranteed, but his music does NOT amaze me any more... I never thought I'd be saying that, but Richie bores me to death now. The end.

Why did we end up in a world that dj's are more important than producers?
rino replied to Ormion's topic in General Psytrance
What you said above is the same thing I said, just switched around See: a talentless idiot can make it not even knowing how or why he made it, while a producer packed with ideas and talent, and balls to carry them all out can remain incognito for an entire life time... That's why I said it takes more than just talent. How I define success is not relevant; it's a subjective matter- be it money or satisfaction on a more personal, should I say spiritual level... -

rino replied to Ormion's topic in General Psytrance
Now to a certain extent I agree with you. But, it seems to me that what you're saying is the equivalent of not going to soccer matches any longer because all the cursing, shouting and wilding out ruins the game for you... It's an integral part of the match, and I cannot even come close to imagening a party where everybody would just quietly pay maximum attention to the music. But maybe I just got you wrong As for the producer/renown relationship, I agree with you. But that is the unfortunate rule (one of) of life: the fact you have talent won't make you necessarily successful. It takes much more than just gift and being blessed with more ability than others to pour it into success.
