Now that Ticon has jumped to the better place of trance
rino replied to NEMO.BOFH's topic in General Psytrance
I'm liking it more and more with each listen. And I doubt this is something acts like Vbrasphere and Antix could ever follow. This talented duo are not acting as role models this time around. Ticon chose a road hard to pursue here, a lot of people out there will try to bury this album six feet under ground, but I can see it outshining all the negative critics in the near future and getting the props I most sincerly feel it deserves. Then, on the other hand, I am starting to appreciate releases like this one all the more as my interest in the psy scene is unfortunately starting to diminish. Nothing against the music, its quality, the labels or the artists, it's just that an album like Ticon's newest effort gives me more chills down my spine than my top 5 psy trance albums for 2007. I can't explain it, but I don't want to. Why even bother when it feels so good and stamps ridiculous smiles all over my face. Way to go Ticon. Bravo! :posford: -

Agreed. I gave the album a listen (MP3 copy in my headphones). Hardly would the techno freaks approve this release with a green light. -
What music are you listening to right now?

...trolls... :wank: -
Isn't Last Men Standing a project in which Carlo Paterno, the legendary ex-Etnica member, is involved in? I remember hearing a few of their tracks some years back on some Ibiza-something-something compilation... Cool music, no doubt. Just what it takes to chill under the hot sun with your Margherita cocktail

I'm not the real expert in this territory, but I think you might wanna try some of the following: Toi Doi- Technologic (2000) (Avatar Records) http://www.discogs.com/release/146332 Any one of the absolutely fabulous seven installations on Schlabbaduerst Rekkords - http://www.discogs.com/label/Schlabbaduerst+Rekkords Battle Of The Future Buddhas- Twin sharkfins (1998) (Boom! Records) http://www.discogs.com/release/90941 Battle Of The Future Buddhas- Demonizer (2002) (Boom! Records) http://www.discogs.com/release/61121

From a business standpoint there is nothing wrong with what Kagdila is doing, in fact, it's a pretty damn fine move. Grab the market by the balls and earn big bucks on whatever it is that people want. Hahaha my man, that does not set you apart from 95% of other buyers who just cannot afford the "Fuck the price, this item has got to be mine regardless of everything else" mentality

Use playback! Just let the CD play and put your hands up in the air and wave 'em around like you just don't care... As for the laptops, I stopped acknowledging their existance on the face of this planet. The last one pissed me off to the point of giving it away to my mom who prior to that did not know where computers get switched on.

Yeah. True. I'm getting all confused. Time to go break open the piggy bank and go order a pizza! If it does eventually get sold, I think we'll have an all time psy trance record. Back in its day, I saw the magnificent quadruple vinyl edition of Prana's "Geomantik" go for some crazy sums of money, but that was some years before the once popular media got pushed away to the background, and I don't think it was anywhere near 150 pounds, let alone 200. One other question, if it's not a business secret: in terms of units printed out and distributed on the market, which one of your first two albums would win out? Thus far I always had the feeling that "Breathing Space" was more sought after, despite being the fresher one. Haha, I wonder if any one of you O.O.O.D. guys ever made a clean 200 pounds for your input on recording the albums.
-
Nope, the item is still there. Along with two other copies being sold for 69 pounds, which is still blowing the price out of proportion.
-
I hope it didn't. If for nothing else, then for my own sake. Seeing other people spending 200 quids per CD makes me feel like a rain worm. Let's go look it up, and see if we can find it.

Etnica- The juggeling alchemists under the black light
rino replied to rino's topic in For Sale/ Trade
Nah, that desperate- nevargh! I can PM you a photo of myself clutching my well preserved copy of that album. There are certain items not even starvation can make me part with. God, if only I was in a position to sell Etnica's debut like there was no tomorrow I think the other seller is the same guy who sold Aes Dana's who-knows-which album for 500 euros. -
I'm primarily after their second output. After seeing it go for 200 pounds a few days ago on eBay, I got kind of discouraged though That is more than my bills and monthly supply of food end up costing. And I still didn't start chewing on CDs, so...

Partially agree with Oopie here, on one of your first mixes, Etnica's Microdrive was to slooooooooow, man This mix is nice. I like it. Nothing mind blowung, but no weak moments either. Actually, my biggest and only complaint about it is that it's just too ordinary. Follow me here: out of twelve tracks in your mix, five are TOO known classics. I mean, putting three top class A.P. tunes + two Etnica's monsters from their hey day is always hitting it on the nail, but for most old school fans, it's fast forward material. A lot of people here know these tracks by heart, and they (include me here) are eager to hear some more obscure gems! Be more picky and experimental. Surprise your listeners with old school tunes that somehow might have slipped under the radar. Get my point? Other then that, keep up the good work!

The way you wrote it makes one thing the whole techno scene is snobby. Not true. Say and write what you want, it just ain't true. Snobby magazines don't deirectly imply a genereally snobby scene. The Source is a very arrogant and snobby magazine, but the hip hop world and culture is not snobby at all. Once you get past the thugs, drugs, Gs and hustlaz, you realize it's not. Not true. I partied out in Berlin one too many times, and just as in every other city I've ever been to, there are total snobby idiots and narrow minded fools, and naturally there were some really cool, open minded and full of understanding dudes as well. The Detroit gang has become pretty closed within its own boundaries during the past few years, but it's such as world wide phenomena and it covers such a wide spectrum of styles and ideas that calling it snobby is a little over the top. Don't you agree? What I've come to notice over the last few years is not snobby behavior, but the type of compulsory switching over to the minimal style because it became popular... I mean, some of my favorite DJs/producers changed styles over night because it was popular. Hell, I for one occasionally enjoy minimal, but when one has enough, it is really enough. What the hell? If you wanna wild out on a techno party, you gotta listen to that brain drilling schranz thingy, or just slowly groove to the sounds of the likes such as Vilalobos, F.E.O.S... Hahaha, the Chicago movement... Dunno what to say here, has been a while since I haven't payed any attention to the Chicago house veterans and all, but the last I remember, overall it was one of the most happy and joyous scenes around Oh yeah, Ticon's newest album? I had no idea it was even out. Gotta go check it out. -
You're right! Herbs & Spices and Kundalini are the only two tracks which have the 1995/6 recording date next to them. I got things mixed up then... Oh wait, 25 quids for "Free Range"? And then people get pissed off when you tell 'em how psy trance is an elitist genre. Fuck, you gotta win the lottery first in order to properly enjoy the music.

Hey Colin, I understand that the album itself was published in 1996, but in the booklet it actually says that some of those tracks were recorded throughout 1994/1995 during various live gigs. Is that correct? As for the price, it's down right ridiculous. I cannot be unfair and say I can relate to your situation, as it must be weird seeing your own work going through the roof (price wise) and you getting a piece of the cake is out of the question Anyways, an amazing album it is, maybe if the prices were more acceptable, it would reach a wider audience and recieve more appreciation.

Spooky stuff. I usually don't dig ambient stuff, but this mix came as a pretty new and refreshing addition to my feeble ambient music collection. Prior to this I was not really aware of this darker side of downtempo music, but this is cool. It sure does get my sign of approval, for what it is worth.

Etnica- The juggeling alchemists under the black light

That was rather fast. Good night. -
Here you go, the discogs link where a user is selling a MINT copy of Etnica's debut album for a "humble" 75 euros: http://www.discogs.com/sell/list?release_id=75256&ev=rp As far as this one goes, chances are slim you'll ever again come across another M copy of this extremely rare classic gem for a reasonable price. Good luck! May the fastest finger win :drama:

Nah, the last compilation I heard bumping out of somebody's stereo containing anything remote to that forgotten genre dates to quite a few years ago. Let alone the last time I heard it on a party... I guess it got ran over by the whole french house wave which seems to be the largest house trend since the invention of colored vinyl. Operating with state of the art equipment and having the skills of a surgeon won't get a DJ far. If the music does not move the crowds, mixing skills certainly won't. As many stated above, a moderated combo of both works just fine, but I am always more inclined to respect a DJ with mind blowing tunes and modest mixing skills than viceversa. The heavy weights of electronic music have it all. No wonder they're considered heavy weights then, right...? Er, right, great conclusion

As a whole, "Violent Relaxation" is a more accomplished piece of work, be it idea, music or production quality wise. It works best, at least for me, when listened to starting with the uptempo CD, and then slowly sinking into your comfy chair while toning things down with the chill stuff. The texture of the tracks is on a whole new level when compared to the debut! The tracks show a more mature side of the trio, some real "that is how it should be done kiddos" old school goa trance. However, disregarding all the justified praise it has recieved during the years, "Violent Relaxation" does not contain my all time favorite Total Eclipse tracks: Waiting For A New Life, Partycles and Blade Runner. If you are a nerdish DAT collector, do not be a cunt- just send me the Blade Runner remix via PM.

Jesus Christ this is A - M - A - Z - I - N - G - ! - ! - ! Despite the fact all of these tracks are very well known to me, they are perfectly mixed, the entire mix is like an adrenaline shot in your chest- Pulp Fiction style!!! The Vox track came in as the nicest surprise here- it's sweet when the oftenly neglected croatian producers get squeezed in between an arsenal of well renowned legendary artists. This mix kicks major ass, sir :clapping: :clapping: :clapping: :clapping: :clapping: :clapping: Tearing the roof off in 5... 4... 3... 2... 1... I'm out & reaching for the moon!

Hey! I don't recall either that "Violent Relaxation" was plagued by any vocals or exaggerations in the sound applying departments. But I do remember it as one of finest albums from the era. The first disc shines through with a collection of intelligently crafted goa trance monsters, while the second one has some of the most excellent downtempo tunes ever recorded. What a great album. And no, "Delta Aquarids" does not fall far behind. I'm still trying to hunt down that Blade Runner (remix). No success thus far...

The above quoted tracks are my three all time favorite ambient tracks I reckon. The first being the single, absolutely finest piece of ambient music I have ever come across. From my own arsenal of tunes I add: Pleiadians- Celaeno Shpongle- ...and the day turned to night From Within- Snake charmer From Within- ALL 3 tracks from the seond installation of this classic and utterly unbelievable trilogy!!! From the shorter tracks I absolutely adore the following: June Rashava & Senzar- Beautiful you Solar Fields- Time slide Miranda- Weightless Speedy J- Lanzarote Generally I like long, dreamy, story telling ambient tracks, like the three I quoted above. In order to work for me, ambient music must slowly evolve, lure you in inch by inch, with its underlying harmony and subdued melodies and sounds, pushing atmospheric soundscapes to the forefront.
