I have some in Australia who took me to my first party and got me into this stuff when I used to only like Shpongle and downtempo stuff before that.. Now though a lot of them are a bit "over" psytrance in general and won't go to parties so much unless I tell them they can't miss someone. And of course they don't like goa stuff or even know it, like most in aus.. Seems I went fully into it and still am while they kind of outgrew it a bit or something. They think I'm a bit mad for it and listen to nothing else, but that's not true. Well, mostly Still they come to the big festivals and put their own on as well (variety of styles though dnb etc) so it's good I still have a "crew" back home for those parties.

Lol.. Breakfast at a festival!? I just can't do it. Haha

Nice topic I think you are right in the way it has evolved to an extent. But also, I see everything coming back around full circle, in the future as everything does. What I mean is people returning again to "lo fi" styled productions and tribal based goa. And yeah the darker stuff. There has already been a bit of it, not so much on Suntrip but that's fine with me hah. I think it must be hard for a goa artist these days, trying to maybe capture the spirit of their old favourites while still sounding modern and relevant. IMO, that is what Suntrip has done best, made goa relevant again. And that is a great thing for its continued evolution. You can't please everyone, but I've definitely been happy with the way goa has evolved in the last ten years.

Which artists or maybe just tracks even do you not find special, that it seems everyone else raves about? *Note this is nothing personal to the artists, its just one persons opinion after all, not everyone can like everything Mine, well its E Mantra. As much of a Suntrip fan as I am, and I really do love just about everything they have ever released, he is the only one that doesn't "fit" my style i guesss. I find he doesn't go anywhere with his melodies, and the tracks all kind of blend into one for me. I have never "got it" with his sound and i have tried and tried. Who knows though, i now like some other stuff i never liked before, so i may love it in a few years.

WHATS GOING ON AT OVNIMOON HEADQUARTERS!
Shpongled247 replied to technosomy's topic in General Psytrance
Definitely not quality... Although Ovnimoon himselfs release is quite good sure. I always find it a little suspicious when full on/prog artists churn out album after album, putting out like one every year or so... Just.. How much work went into that? How much have you grown as an artist and improved in that time? How much new creativity/sounds are injected in the next release? The answer usually, upon listening for me, is Zero. Nada. Nilch. None. I think its great when an artist takes their time to hone their craft, and not rush things out just to get played on the next festival circuit... :/ -
Fantastic tracks ruined by mastering/mixing.
Shpongled247 replied to Penzoline's topic in General Psytrance
On Topic: Cybernetika - All of his albums on Ekto actually. I wanted to love them as they are quite creative and different musically, and he has some great atmospheres, but everything is just mixed too far back. I think in this case it may be how he kind of intended it, but I don't think the albums were professionally mastered at any rate. Would like to hear them with a bit more punch some day as i think there is some good stuff there, underneath a murky mix. -

Shpongled247 replied to Penzoline's topic in General Psytrance
This has been a nice discussion to follow To me, I always thought that if an Artist didn't like the way his stuff was mastered by a label, surely they would say something or not work with them. If they weren't happy they wouldn't let it be released no? So questioning mastering sometimes, to me, i see it as almost questioning the artist themselves. Was weird to see Suntrip bought up in this discussion lol. They have some of the nicest and more gentle releases in this scene, (See Khetzal: Corrole, no?) for the type of music they are releasing. Modern, punchy sound that wont sound out of place being played on a huge F1 rig after some prog or full on artist maxxing out the system, while still retaining musical dynamics and character the artist wanted. Those saying the old tracks still work, sure they do, because they are simply great tracks! But frankly, hear them after a night of "modern" music and tell me the crowd doesn't notice a change in "perceived volume" or power. That, whether you like it or not, directly translates to possible decline of energy on the dancefloor. Lastly, Tim Schuldt, as far as I have ever heard is one of the best in the game, and there is a reason he is so highly regarded. Each to their own though and there are certainly people here more technically knowledgeable than me. -

No review for Lost Buddha - Untold stories? ?
Shpongled247 replied to exotic's topic in General Psytrance
It got lost in a sea of uninspired tunes around that time for me. All tracks were too similar and nothing stood out that much. There was so much good stuff coming out as well that I didn't and still don't have time to listen to anything but the best. Goes doubly for goa stuff for me.. -
Share you experiences with meeting psy/goa artists in real life
Shpongled247 replied to Ormion's topic in General Psytrance
Talpa, was a really nice, funny guy when I met him tripping in the sunrise to his set outdoors. Talamasca was a good guy too, let me get a photo with him hah. I didn't mention his new stuff sucks though lol. Blackstarrfinale, what to say haha Luis is an awesome guy only met him once but really chilled funny dude. U Recken, seemed ok maybe caught him on a bored day.. Prometheus mmm only briefly met him humoured me with Simon stories. Oh and Hux Flux is indeed a funny fellow lol, as was Tryambaka. -
Scientists Discover Normal Looking Psytrance Fan
Shpongled247 replied to Imba's topic in General Psytrance
London scene is about 80% "normal" looking people, with far less dreadlocks and tye dye than u might find at a festival. That was weird to me when I first came. Australian parties are much rarer and a more kind of underground thing I think. A lot more hippie ish looking people, as most normal people don't know about them as they aren't on every weekend. So it's only the people really into it that go. The beauty of it the world over is indeed the diversity and idea that anyone is welcome. In saying that though the you can spot troublemakers a mile away in London.. "Chavs" I think they call them here? Usually have no idea about the music, are there to get fucked up and are incredibly drunk and sleezing on girls and killing the vibe. Thankfully they are booted pretty promptly if its a decent crew putting it on. It's funny that Anoebis has the most "psy" heh, look, because he is the most normal, sober, nicest guy of all haha. Probably gets a lot of disapointed people asking him for stuff! -
Goa trance scene on the Balkan Peninsula
Shpongled247 replied to Richpa's topic in General Psytrance
Nice post Richpa, really cool to see how it is growing so much there. No wonder you are having amazing lineups at parties like this http://www.psynews.org/forums/index.php/topic/68528-balkan-goa-fanatics-presents-suntrip-records-10-years-anniversary-11121307/ at the moment! Maybe the balkans is the next belgium? haha. Anyway, im interested as to what the goa scene was like in the old days there? ie, was there one at all do you think? or is it something relatively new that has sprouted the past years. -
I moved to London from Australia, well for 2 years at least (working "holiday") with my gf. Have been working a lot, but only when i want, and in turn have been able to travel around europe a fair bit for that so it has been great. The best thing i have ever done actually! Only have about 8 months left or so until my Visa runs out. People back home, when i speak to them, sound as if they feel like we have been gone forever, but to us it has happened so fast, which brings me to the the next point. Time does indeed seem to speed up. The last year or so have literally flown by for me, even though (because?) i have crammed in more life experiences in that time than ever before.. Hopefully i can cram in a lot more in the rest of my subjective time then, hah.

Radi: Go to a psytrance party/festival. Any one that you can. I promise you will meet some beautiful people. And have some experiences that enrich your life... It's just...a no brainer seeing how u like the music already..

At least to me it is.. These past years I have lived I realised over a third of what will be my entire existence on this earth.. And I believe I have lived it to the maximum. I've lived, loved, learnt and lost... And it has been incredible. Quitting a job of ten years to follow love to the other side of the world at the drop of a hat, leaving my friends and family, was the best thing I could do to grow as a person. I guess I feel incredibly grateful everyday to be having the experiences I have had and will have. My question is, are you living the life you want? Are you happy in your existence, your one life?

I actually forgot to ever vote after going to about 5 times. Ffffff. Goood to see things turned out as I would like tho haha. Thanks for all the effort!

Jesus Christ... This thread has at least been entertaining I guess but get a grip man! Are you seriously asking "if I write high quality music is there a chance of it being released?" Just... Wow. Also, I listened to your stuff and disagree with mars, it needs a lot lot lotttt of work before it should be released on any label. Not being nasty just my opinion. You should strive to make the absolute best music/art/whatever it is, to the most perfect level you can, For Yourself. Then and only then others will hear your passion and dedication you have put into it, and might just come asking to release your stuff. Writing music "to get released" is just plain wrong. Do it because you love it and you have a burning desire within you to do it. Or do it as a hobby. Or don't do it at all.

Haha c'mon man! Had me excited for a second.. While the "Best Off" is great in its own right I don't think it's a spiritual successor to Tumult. Something is missing, and for me it's a consistent flow and journey through the course of the album. Probably because HH album is more a compilation.. One that I love. Still Waiting for another pure Derango album. Purosurpo and Sanatonic Audio Trips are filling the gap in the meantime!

Samples sound awesome, going to pick this up. Specially like the last two tracks! Really nice.

Getting closer and my excitement is building! Have been trying not to think about it for the last few weeks as I've been dying to see Filteria for years. Not to mention the rest of the lineup! haha! Leaving for Amsterdam tomorrow then to Antwerp the day of or before the party. Can't waiiiiiiiiiiiiit! Joske, save a Suntrip shirt for me if you have some huh! See you there! PS: will it be crossing a fanboy line to get Jannis to sign a cd for me? haha.

^ Thanks for that link! Buuuut doh, on listening its.. not for me :/ Think i might have almost heard one goa "ish" melody in there somewhere among the full on basslines...offbeat basslines and galloping basslines.. Skip to 21:45 if anyone wants to hear for themselves... God dammit! Why do i get my hopes up about stuff like this!

Definitely don't get a job, man I been working in offices and studios for ten years and sometimes you can hardly see with the amount of red mouse laser lights being thrown around. It's just intense. That's one word for it. It's definitely the most important factor of gaining employment/growing as a person.
