    Flyh - Flyh

I think this is a wonderful album. And the cover is great too! I think the cover pretty much sums up the whole album: "Unconventional" Amazing stuff. Completely catergory breaking. Incredible music, incredible production. well done johan! You've made my job a little easier! looking forward to more
  2. well, that puts things in a whole different perspective then! You are an inside man! Just didn't want you to think I was a Gay cyclist Freak or something! You are so right dude. There are a lot of CD's getting released today. More so than in the"Glory Days"! Back in the day 9/10 cd's were great. Today it's 9/60! Just because there's a lot of shite being released, doesn't mean that the quality artists have quit and no great tunes are being put out there. Dig throught the dirt and you'll find the diamonds! Also, we have much higher expectations of our releases. Back in the day we just accepted everything because it was "New" and "different". Today our tastes are more defined and we expect more. But this is a good thing - it pushes artists forward.
  3. dropped it in cubase sx and so far I can get no sound out of it??? Maybe cos it's late and I'm tired Will try again tomorrow...
  4. Eina! I almost completely forgot about those. Go figure! A psychedelic so well engineered you have no recollection of ever taking it! power!
  5. Not quite! Let me explain... These are Hoffmans! LSD blotters printed with the image of the "first trip" when Albert Hoffman finally succeded in making Acid all those years ago! He ate some LSD-25, and then thought that it didn't work. He had failed 24 times already. He then got on his bicycle and road home. On the way the LSD-25 kicked in really HARD! He had finally created his wonder psychedelic! So the first trip was by the man himself on a bicycle! Wheeeeee! These blotters came out in 1994 to celebrate the aniversary of LSD. They were then reprinted for the Global Millenium Trance Party in Cape Town in 2000! These are actually called Hoffman 2000's. And they made the SA2000 party that bit more colourful!!!! Aaaaah, I get so nostalgic! For more psychedelic heritage check out... http://www.blotterbarn.com/
  6. Psycho The live recording version.
  7. You are so right! The customer base is changing. And so are the attitudes of the producers. As a producer, what would you do: 1. Release completely fresh, original, underground sounds only to get fucked by downloaders and end up like countless other labels like T.I.P World <part 1>, Flying Rhino and Spirit Zone. or 2. Release something for the masses, so someone out there would actually buy it? I think we have ourselves to blame. Psytrance is in a pretty desperate state at the moment, and all the labels I have spoken to in the last 6 months have all told me that they are suffering thanks to downloading. They have a business to run and bills to pay. If they are not being rewarded for their originality then they'll just rather sell-out and hopefully scrape together an income. In the past we have heard amazing original sounds from the likes of Etnica for example. These are 2 Italian boys who have very very wealthy families. They live in Ibiza and can make tunes whenever they feel the urge. It is not their source of income so they have a lot of freedom. Logic Bomb is another great example of making "art" for fun, rather than living off it. Producers today actually need to make a living out of this music. and so they try and please everybody to make some cash to at least live comfortably. Something with mass appeal stands chance of being purchased by the "OMG I just discovered Trance!" crowd. Sure, they can make money off gigs, but there is a lot of compettition and they may only be the "new hot thing" for a year or two before they are forgotten and left behind. SO. IMO there is about 20-30% quality psy being released right now. Support these artists!! BUY their cd's. Don't copy them. Email organisers and suggest that they play at the festivals. And if you feel that labels are selling out and aren't giving you what you need, then tell them too. They need to know consumer reaction. The scene is all about you. You can shape it. Reward originality and individuality! Buy good releases and the focus will move from quantity back to quality!
  8. Infected Mushroom - Muse Breaks < off the latest album? >
  9. The National scene of South Africa is actually a style of music which is a combo of Deep House and African Hip-Hop. Mainly sung in Zulu. It's called "Kwaito". You may even like it EP. No actually you'll find the artists are all "Kwaito clones", probably Anyway. Kwaito is Black music and the majority of the country is black too. Psy-Trance is predominately popular with a fraction of the white minority. So Psy fans are about 0.00716% of the total population. So on a National level, Psy-Trance is Seriously underground. That's why the S.A Psy-squad work so damn hard to get anywhere!
  10. Yeah, unfortunately Damage got Skazified! That's because Skazi took him under his wing and groomed him into a Skazi clone! Poor Fellah! But he's been producing from Israel on Skazi's label so I guess he has been hanging around with the wrong crowd
  11. It's not over yet dude! The bomb is still ticking. And the producers are getting better every day. Progress! And other internationals are starting to copy S.A stuff! I am starting to hear Rinkadink clones emerging! It's early days for us. We haven't reached the Israeli threshold yet! Have you heard Tickets latest stuff? It's sure to redeem your faith!
  12. It's a great scene down there and I miss it tererribly. It is the definately the setting for some of the most incrdible psy parties you could ever experience! And the DJ and Producer community is growing and growing. Cape Town is the epicentre of this thriving scene. We have been spoilt in Cape Town. All the best of the Worlds psy acts are flown in throughout the year and there is an outdoor party every single weekend of summer . There are around 20 party organisers fighting for dates! The weather is amazing and the venues are incredible. The result is a melting pot of inspiration and creativity. And somewhat compettitive environment which leads to artists pushing the boundaries harder and harder. These international acts spot the local talent and the likes of Shift, Damage and Rinkadink were the first to leave the country to Israel and U.K to collaberate and release with international labels. There are also home labels like Nano and Timecode which strive to preserve their individual sound. Another label to watch out for is Afrogalactic Records, they are doing some mad underground shit! New rising stars at the moment include Phyx, Slug, Corona, Broken Toy, Artifakt and my own personal favourite: Tickets! Also watch out for the Commercial Hippies from Nano! And especially that mylo guy I am not sure if S.A is the future. I know it's been psy-trance's best kept secret for a while now. And there are a few more diamonds waiting to be discovered! But Cape Town is a little isolated and week on cashflow, distribution and production values at times. And the more we are exposed to the resources of the rest of the world, the bigger the S.A snowball will get! I am so pleased that S.A is becoming a big international player, and I must agree the sounds are refreshing when you compare them to the rest of the albums getting released out there. I guess it's because South Africans have to try harder! It shows in the music! Keep up the support guys! Thank you for Flying South African Airways!
  13. Get the P4 with Hyper-Threading! Works for me! Cool for when you Rewire or slave and have 2 applications open and running side by side cos the chip has 2 pipes !!!!. ... and AMD is so gay! he he ... just kidding Macs are solid. But PC's have more "easily available software" if you get my drift!! I know AMD is a good gamers chip. Multimedia and all that. Don't know anyone who uses one for sound so I can't really say. Just stay the hell away from the Celeron. The only sound software this thing can handle properly is Winamp!
  14. It helps! But honestly, a sober mind makes better technical decisions! However. The best thing to do IMO is produce music after a party where you have eaten psychedelics. Like immediateley when you get home. You get the "psychedelic perspective" of the music throughout the day/night, and then go home with a head full of sounds and inspiration. Then you apply what you have learnt. Psychedelics won't put music notes in your head. But will help you to interperet music that you hear. It's a great source of inspiartion and context, but not music theory!
  15. Dude. I use Sennheisers. For 5 years so far. And I must admit I haven't had as much working experience with the Beyers. You seem to know more about em than I. I guess what I was trying to say is that if you produce music then you probably also want to do live performances or maybe DJ too . And Sennheisers are great for both! Bargain! Oh, and even 1hz of lower bass makes a difference to a bass-junkie like myself. get both! Shit man, buy em all! Even the little ones you stick in your ears!
  16. Yeah, the Sennheisers have a much better bass response. I would reckommend the Sennheisers because they were originally made for studio use. Only recently they moved into the DJ market. They won't help much for mastering, as you have read, but they are sweet if you are doing a live/dj show! And for making music they rock too, cos the bass is sweet! It almost feels like it's coming out of a giant rig! go Sennheiser!
  17. cetranlien If EP says it sounds like Wizzy Noise, take it as a compliment man! They rock! I wrote a track last year and gave it to a DJ connection of mine. He said it sounded like CPU! I thought it was a bad thing, but it wasn't because this dude liked to mix CPU in his sets. So my track and the CPU track go well together! What more could a psy DJ want??!!!! Consistency! He actually gave me a major compliment. And was very pleased I gave him the tune. So take it the right way! Anyways. You will still develop your own style, as will I. We are all learning. I know EP complains about clones, but hey, they are getting recording contracts and there is a major demand for their music right now . And the party crowd don't honestly give a shit about who's copying who, or what track rips off another track. They just want rocking beats to dance their asses off! Keep it up. And stay inspired
  18. gonna miss this one, but I'll see ya all at VOOV! Yeeehaaa!
  19. top of mind .... oforia altom protoculture zorba hard, but twinkly! not really my favourites, but maybe the melodic morning sound you're looking for
  20. Which one is you E.P? Left or right?
  21. Sub6 for a seriously solid album. Almost every track is top drawer. With a close second from Misted Puppet!
  22. O.k then... try a snare/clap! They also make the kick sound like it's delayed so it rolls more, maybe this?! You can use a subtle delay on your kick or write in softer hits between each kick ie K-kkK-kkK-kkK.
