  1. To start DJ'ing I bought 2 Pioneer CDJ 100s and a simple Newmark Mixer. Then I taught myself beatmixing and the rest. Get yourself your own gear so you can practise often. Invite people to jam with you and share tips and tricks.
  2. Yeah, try the Step-Filter in Cubase and you can make an "FX loop" to affect your melody loop. This gives quite a nice variation.
  3. THE SUN IS OUT! Pray it stays this way
  4. Thanks heavens humans are waterproof . Should be a good time anyways. gonna see on sunday if things clear up, my babe and I will drive through. It's only 1hr15min away! VOOV last year was fantatsic! I hope the weather doesn't fuck this one up!
  5. maybe this will make you feel better: CLICKY Rain all weekend
  6. I like subtractor in Reason rewired. and I have had awesome results with z3ta in Cubase. Actually it's good for most synthy things! and with bass I do roll-off on the eq at around 80hz
  7. second-hand dat recorder perhaps? I get a loan G4 laptop this weekend. I'll let ya know.
  8. you're right. It'll be some time till it comes out. My Mac support guy here at work is confusing me But he's Polish and can't really speak English so I suppose he reckons the latest G4 is the one. Like the latest batch. So don't go second hand! Or rather get a tower G5, for the processor. So I guess I'm looking at getting the G4 then at 2000 euros G5 would be nicer C'mon Apple, stop smoking and get building you stinky hippies!
  9. gut feel tells me that you should go for the G5. More headroom. And you could always upgrade components going forward. I also know that some of the G4 powerbooks were bad quality - screens fucked out etc., and they learned from their mistakes, so G5 will be more reliable hardware. I am faced with the same decision right now. My plan is to go for the 15" G5 Powerbook ( 2000 euro ) put down a fat deposit ( 1000 euro ), and pay the rest off each month.
  10. 1. WHY DO YOU USE THE TERM "PSY-TRANCE" TO DESCRIBE YOUR MUSIC WHEN IT HAS CLEARLY EVOLVED INTO SOMETHING ELSE? 2. DO YOU THINK THAT SPENDING SOOOO MUCH TIME PLAYING SHOWS HAS RESULTED IN LESS STUDIO TIME AND LOWER QUALITY MUSIC? 3. WHY DOES YOUR LOGO SHOW 1 PERSON WITH A GUITAR WHEN YOU ARE ACTUALLY A 2 -PIECE OUTFIT? 4. SEEING AS THOUGH YOU ARE SO GUITAR-DRIVEN, DO YOU HAVE AN "UNPLUGGED" ALBUM PLANNED ?!
  11. No faster than 145. > Everyone should be able to get into the music. I normally move from 138 to 145 in my night sets and 145 - 142 in my morning sets But a have a bit of a fetish for 142 I must say;) I've found it to be particularly effective with the ladies !
  12. mk-225c the super small travel-friendly one! um.... yes...I saw that! Evolution are quite cheap so you can probably get a few more knobs for your cash. But go as big as you can. I haven't had much experience with the other ones. But why not get a synth? Then you can use it as a midi controller and make hardware tuneage too!
  13. Traktor is awesome. I also like Mixmeister, cos it also shows you what Key your tracks are in. It's not free , but you can download a demo which may be all you need . Mixmeister link good luck!
  14. If you don't like it... don't buy it
  15. Back in Goa in the very beginning Dj's , producers and party people were into Industrial and techno and shit. And when LSD made it's rounds through the parties and producers the sound began to become psychedelic. Acid trance and the original "Goa" sound were born. LSD was not "the reason", but rather " the influence ". And as the years rolled on the sound became more and more psychedelic. After 911 and stricter security in Airports there has been a distinct shortage of LSD worldwide. But no shortage of Xtc for example. This is probably due to the fact that people manufacture their own pills locally, whereas LSD which is way more difficult to make was being "exported" from places like Israel. So yes, people's drug taking habits have changed since September 11 2001. The scene moved more to amphetamine based drugs like E and Speed. And so did the music. And with this change in trends came the Full-on Snowball! Everone wanted it harder and faster and more and more Killaaaaaargh. And a genuine Global demand for full-on is what we have right now. That's where we've been. Where are we going? Hopefully, back to the beautiful beaches of Goa
  16. Great link! And yeah, I must agree with you on T-Racks with psy. But it's a good all-in-one setup which helps you get into the concept of mastering. it's cool to load up the presets and judge how they affect the tune in different ways. here you can get an idea of settings and stuff. Like I said, it's a good beginners introduction. But you are right, it's not a pro psy device!
  17. thanks m8! I may just give it a try!
  18. Sure. A lot of studying. And loads of experience. But it's all in the ears!
  19. Yeah, I took a tune to an engineer in a big studio in Cape Town. This guy owed me some favours so I asked him to do the mastering. He said: NO WAY! Then I asked him where I could find someone to do it. He said "try London!" Mastering is farking difficult! And there are not many pro's around. I understand that it's a feeling that you either have or not. You cannot learn it It's the quest for the Holy Grail! And we are all searching for answers! As an introduction, maybe check out T-Racks. It'll put things in perspective at least T-Racks link
  20. Quick question for all you Cubase users and abusers! If you reinstall Cubase do you have to reinstall all your plugins too? I have reinstalled Cubase a few times, and each time I have uninstalled and then reinstalled all my plugins as well. A friend of mine tells me this is the way to go. But it's quite a time consuming process! Just wanted to know if it was possible to make a copy of your Vst Plugins folder and then copy it back into the directory of a freshly installed SX? your input would be greatly appreciated
