  1. Too often! When the DJ box is elevated it's o.k. But when you are on ground level it's a different story. Exposure. You hear it at the party - you dance your ass off! - you recognise the preview on Psyhop.com - you say "my Fuck, they played this at the festival! - you hopefully buy it ( if you have the money to spend that is! ) If you don't believe me, then take a look at the "Lost tracks" section of this forum. People say" I went to a festival and heard this track where I woman says something about floating in a sea of bliss or something." Days later the track is identified. and hopefully purchased!
  2. hmmmm good question! Say I play 25 tracks in a set. And I only play 1 track off each cd. This set would cost me 300 Euro. Maybe I could make some money off it at a festival, but at a club gig .... think again. Fortunately, I have a day job, so I can afford to buy cd's. But if my only income was being a DJ I honestly don't think I would buy a single cd. Rather feed myself with the money! So I can understand why soooo many dj's use pirated tunes out there. I have seen a lot of it in my 5 years at the decks. Even some of the big names. Personally, I don't think it's wrong. If some DJ copies my music I am happy! Thrilled in fact. Let him have the 12 euro so that he can survive as a dj and keep playing my music! Dj's bring the music to the masses. Downloading means they can get the music really quickly. Maybe even before release. And that is a good thing. Nothing like having your CD hit the shelves and the song is already a hit on the dancefloor! This is very valuable promotion. The way I see it is if the DJ copies an album that he wouldn't normally afford or have access to this is o.k. He will expose this music to hundreds and thousands of people. Say a copied CD get's played at a festival - let's say 3000 people are exposed to it, and if the DJ has chosen for his/her set then it has a special stamp of approval. It must be an important release. Say 30% of the people decide to buy the album - then that's 1000 x 12 euro. And 12 000 Euro from 1 burned disc isn't so bad afterall! Not to mention the countless gigs the artist would get out of the exposure. Sure, this is just an example, but I guess you see my point. Consumer Piracy is bad. DJ piracy is not soooo bad. In fact it could be very good!
  3. This is exactly the way. Simply reverse it In Reason you will have to make a new file. In Cubase you can just right click the wav and tell it to reverse the file. Simple! One thing that might be a good idea is to: 1. take your kick into a wave editor, 2. Add some reverb to it so it has a longer tail, 3. Now reverse it! You will notice that it has much more of a "whip" to the sound. But yes, this is used a lot But it's good every now and then good luck
  4. Nice one geeza As always, some CONSTRUCTIVE critism Let me begin by saying that this is all imho. I only crit stuff where I feel I can truly give advice and actually like the genre of music to begin with. I am more than familiar with this type of sound and can see where you are aiming at. So.. 1. Bass - Maybe a little less emphasis on the melody of the bassline. With a little less up and down the scale, and a little more groove. Just a step away from melodic towards monotony. ( ref: Sphongle basslines ) Maybe drop out a bass hit somewhere so the bass sets off a bit against your drums. I guess what I'm saying here is less note variation more groove. I would also make it a touch louder in the mix. 2. Synths - great melodies but the synths aren't as attractive as they could be. By this I mean the "patches". Especially the pad-type synth that runs during most of the piece. But if it is Garage Band you are using I realise the synths are a tad limited. If you are aiming for these type of synth sounds perhaps add some reverb and maybe some more delay to get those synths really deep and dreamy. Right now they are a bit too "up-front" and flat in the in the track. 3. Can't comment on structure because it's only 3 min. But I'm sure when you reach 6min mark or so you'll have a better perspective of your ideal structure, length of breaks, what goes where etc. But my biggest piece of advice is to move off Garage Band and get into Logic. Fast! A hardware synth could also give you more colours to paint with. Ben, you have more than displayed your feeling, understanding and your musical talent in this piece. You can hear you have a good ear and an understanding of music. I hear serious potential. I realise you are starting out and stuff but you are seriously ahead of the curve. Get pro tools to match your evident talent and you'll be pro in no time. I like it otherwise I wouldn't have written all these wordz . Hope it's clear enough and you can get something out of it. Keep it up bro
  5. Great stuff! Pin this topic! ... and what about "Musique"? The Q has much more power over the C. Because it is joined by the silent "U". And 2 is always better than 1. Q has also powerful Alphabet Q have Queen, Quiz, Quabble, Quest and dare I say it........Quaken. Q is also have magical powers because it is first on the keyboard. And 007 get his fancy guns and weapons technology from Q. Q is many more than K and C together. imho
  6. Exactly FP. I am good friends with Ans/Reagan/Gareth from Nano, and I am very happy to see them get exposure after working so hard hard for it all these years. I have also had dealings with Shane Gobi and it's great to see Alchemy moving up. What makes me ill is a fat cat like Ministry cashing in on our scene: "PSY TRANCE is an absolutely STUNNING scene happening around the world featuring its own network of artists, labels and parties. To reflect MINISTRY RADIO’S GLOBAL LISTENERSHIP we are proud to announce the latest and most exciting addition to their schedule ‘NEW WAVE RADIO’" I also hope that labels like Alchemy and Nano don't get labelled as "flavour of the month" or "too commercial" because of their association with Ministry. Sure, it's cool for these guys to get exposure. Do a song with Kylie Mynogue or Robbie Williams and you'll get exposure too. But lose credibility. One has to draw the line somewhere.
  7. Commercial Hippies from Nano Records use Ableton for their live show. It certainly does the trick!
  8. Money. That's what this scene is focussing on right now. People are trying to make a living out of psy-trance, before people were focussing on art and fun. The real money is being made at events/shows, and artists are always on the road. The result is low quality/fast produced "laptop music". There is not enough time spent in the studio. But the good news is that there is still quality out there. You just have to sift through the crap to get to the goodness
  9. why appologise? Afterall I only posted it for YOUR approval.
  10. Just found this on the web. It's a full guide to Electronica with sound/track samples and all. Click here Study hard. The exam will be next Monday.

  14. Mono is not bad if it is used for effect. They say you should have a lot of stuff in your mix in mono to get it really pumping. BTW: RHCP - Californication is recorded in mono.
  15. Brilliant! Lateral thinking indeed! Nice one thanks
  16. yeah, midi is always the answer! Thanks for the tips guys.
  17. cool trip bro. thanks. but I'm still certain this function exists in SX. any other clues chaps?
  18. a sincere review follows my man refreshingly different! Cool direction. Nice to hear guitars in a more creative way, the guitar sustain especially sounded fresh! As a guitarist myself I have always wondered why psy-guitar riffs always have to be so cheesy and lame?!! But this made me sit up and listen! On the negative side, or rather positive criticism side: - Needs more structure. Sounds a bit like a jam. Needs a balance between intense and chilled out areas, building up/layering of the sounds to give it a bit of tension and keep it interesting for the dancefloor. More sequenced fx could help solve this perhaps? -Lacks groove. Full of awesome sounds and melodies but the "funk" is a bit lost in the arrangement. - Too many different sounds/fx/stabs. Throw some out, repeat others. But fuck, it's great to here someone out there is heading in a new direction! I am sure you guys must put on one hell of a show! Hope you can use this input Good luck!
  19. How do you replace Wav files in your sequence? Like, say you have a sample in wav format which plays every other bar, but want to change it for another wav with the same positioning/sequencing... how do you do it? Sure you can just delete the files and replace them one by one - but is there a feature in Cubase where you can Replace a number of instances of a Wav file with a new one - in one click? I have checked out the sample pool thingy and even looked in the manual but I can't seem to find the answer any pointers would be greatly appreciated
  20. Shaft.... check this out. It's an article about Powerbooks from Computer Music. Old, but good - they still talk about the G3 powerbook, but there is some cool insight into the laptop and Powerbook world. They did a test! They ran Logic on a G3 powerbook with 24 tracks of audio, plus 16 virtual instruments and it coped... not bad eh?! But they did say it was bad for direct recording... CLICKY I still want one. mmmmmmmm..... EDIT: just found this too: CLICKY2
  21. don't waste any more time with Fruitypoops! Get onto Cubase or Logic immediately!
  22. ReFX Vanguard Even has 303 presets! enjoy
  23. I like it. Although the presets are a bit overused. But it's really tweakable! Have you checked out ReFX Beast? Asteroid.... these are ( IMO ) cool synths: Z3ta Albino Pro 53 Beast Vanguard Mercury Absynthe FM7 Reaktor
