  1. -Tristan for staying Power! -Goa Gil for 18 hour sets! -Vazik for making my feet really hurt afterwards! But I must say that psy/goa/prog is not really a platform for amazing mixing techniques! When you look at Hip/hop, Breakbeat and even house you see there is a lot more room for "artistry" in other genres! So I would say that the DJ with the best technique is Kid Koala from Ninja tune. Making a live breakbeat groove off 7 turntables at once!
  2. O.K. Now I'm definately with you!
  3. For the classic PPS project sound take snare/tom/hat percussion-loops through "Bit-Crusher" in Cubase. This gives a really low-tech / downsampled sound, while the rest of the rythym section <bass +kick> is clean and full. Play around with Bit-crusher <vst fx > especially on intricate snare loops. You'll recognise the sound! Very X-dream and Wizzy too!
  4. O.k I'm with you! Didn't realise Cujorious was Progressive? Oh well, we live and we learn!
  5. Fair enough. Maybe it's just the party crowd in Hamburg compared to the Cape Town people?! I never heard Dark Progressive before? Or maybe I have and mistake it for something else?!. Gimme some examples... I'm interested!
  6. Yeah, the under 140bpm stuff is not so bad. I started off playing this style 5 years ago, mainly as the last DJ of the morning/day. Nowadays I do hard sunrise stuff. Start Dark, end Light. Just like a sunrise But some of the guys back home in Cape Town are playing this 142-145 Prog/full-on style and it's just not interesting enough for "Night time" music! Or hard enough Here in Hamburg you mostly find progrssive all night! Maybe these guys just speed up the tracks as they reach the A.M hours. It's awful. Prog is perfect for the end of the outdoor party. Slow and groovy. For night time put's me to sleep! I also find that people in the Prog scene take far more drugs to get a kick out of the music! Psy beats twist your brain already! oh, and EP, I took a listen to your stuff and it's cool! You've definately hit the DEEP sound on the head! This is an art. Kudos!
  7. For cheap, good value, good quality mixers try Numark. I have one for my bedroom and it's great. Apparently, the more you spend, the greater the output the mixer. So for clubs and parties I would say top of the range Beringer, but for bedrooms choose Numark And avoid mixers with built-in FX. They are dumb! And tend to be more expensive. There is enough FX in psy already IMHO www.numark.com
  8. Progressive is boring. yawn! It's o.k below 140bpm.... more like minimal. But the faster tracks lack tension and variety. I prefer psychedelix . The only Progressive DJ I like is Creator from Interzone. Label wise, Nano Records would be my recommendation.
  9. Not a huge fan of progressive styles. But I guess this is Tribal Progressive. Anyway.. I like it! le_monde_de_l_art_tribal is my favourite one. Nice production! I'm jealous! Keep it up .
  10. Astrix vs. Atomic Pulse - Valirus < sub6 rmx > V.A - Nu-Clear Visions of Israel / Tip World /2003 LINK maybe this?
  11. Amon Tobin !!!! Saw him DJ and I shat myself! He mixes off 3 turntables, and there are always 2 tracks running on top of each other at any given time! Harsh! I head his new Soundtrack for Splinter Cell 3 and it's scary!
  12. No it was Drum & Bass. Sure, lot's of Trance tracks have samples from movies. But these tunes mostly go unheard cos trance is a little underground, so I guess it's o.k. If you make a tune and it get's onto radio you're pretty f#cked! Also, trance is distributed World-Wide, my friends just had a small time local label. There are some greedy bastards out there. 6 seconds But trance is about music, not talking. So mangle that shit up one time, put some heavy fx and you won't have to worry! Call me paranoid But my girlfriend is a lawyer, specialising in copyright law !!! Hoesit Subsonik?! Isn't it cold up North?! Going to Cape Town next week Am going to be at the Vortex for some Xerox and Illumination LIVE :D schweet my bru:)
  13. Parasense vs. XP Voodoo And believe it or not, Praecox/Bigwigs.... subtle madness! Pure chaos, neatly produced! I'll think of more...
  14. WELL! Mates of mine back home took samples from Disney's "The Jungle Book" and landed up in court with a fat lawsuit! Disney were well pissed! They had to pay the legal fees and luckily managed to make a settlement with Disney which resulted in them having limited distribution < South Africa only > and paying a hefty percentage of their profits for royalties. So they didn't make any cash out of the tunes, which is quite annoying when music is your income! They fought the law... and the law won! There is so much piracy of music and films these days that the big players are keen for any fight! Especially when it looks like you're "copying" their material. So, sure use all the samples you want, just stay the hell away from Disney! And get O.J Simpsons Lawyer!!!!
  15. I've heard him talk about this before. She has great production, the best money can buy. A good reference for mastering and final mix and stuff. One of the other Twisted guys told me that he references Britney before! So maybe it's because of her production. Combined with her sexual magnetism
  16. The trance-killer himself, SKAZI, tells us that anything over 6 seconds and you're in shit! I guess he pushed the limits before, seeing as though half of FIGHT CLUB is in his tunes! So maybe he's right I've always wondered if this is the Law? Anyone know anything? it could keep many of us out of jail in the future!
  17. Great! I got this cd on release date and a month later I saw them at SA2000. Wow! They played a full live set of the Great Unknown, stretching each track out as much as they could! Then 2 days later they offered to play again cos the party was extended. Yay! They played the same tunes again and basically repeated their live set, again! Coolest thing was the second time was a completely different arrangement! A little slower, more mellow, dreamier and tracks lasted way longer. It was a mazing to see a truly "Live Band" up on stage that had full control over what they were doing. These dudes used to have a rock band years ago and now they're like these middle-aged digital rockheadz! They are true musicians. And this album is timeless! In 2005 it still stands tall.
  18. This is a pretty cool application for making kicks. I think it's still shareware Stomper We should make a little kick folder for psynewsers out their somewhere... happy stomping!
  19. Hey Ben! How the hell do you get in? Can't find a place to signup or anything??? Or do they just hate me? keep on rocking bro! Vielen dank aus Hamburg!
  20. Amandla! Skragg/Rabdom is a mate of mine and I'm really chuffed for these guys! They've been working damn hard and they've stayed true to who they are. I think this is the best Timecode release we've seen so far! Nelson digs it too!
  21. by "flip" I mean "reverse". So you reverse it, add delays, render and reverse it again! etc. so hard to explain! u right cinos!
  22. NI Battery But mostly I use Reason's ReDrum Rewired to Cubase another element that comes into Psy is reversing stuff! Reverse snare, kicks, crash cymbals... even melodies. A great trick is to lay down a synth hit or stab, add delay and a pinch of reverb and render a new wave. Then flip it! It sounds crazy! Your sound bounces closer and closer...louder and louder and then dissppears! Try it! Or Flip a sound first, then add delays and stuff, render it, and then flip it back! Your sound is playing forwards normally, but the effects are backwards and happen before the sound! Also really spacey stuff ...sounds inside out! These are just little "tricks" you can put into your tune to make it more interesting. But to make a good track in any style of music you first need a great "hook". The rest is just decoration! good luck and have fun!
  23. Germany is cool for Full Moon Festival and Voov. But I definately recommend spending a few summer months in my hometown, Cape Town!!!! There are outdoor parties every weekend during summer. The Calendar for summer is already full of dates 6 months before. The people are great, it's cheap and the music is really really good. You got everything in Cape Town. Underground and commercial quality events. And some of the most beautiful places to stomp in the world! And the best weather! Yay for Cape Town! Amandla!
  24. dj mylo

    Ticon

Yay! Ticon roolz! And they already won the prize for funniest trance track title ever! "The Clown smells like Gasoline" nice one Nemo! booooooooooom!
  25. If you ad a little compression to your final mix, longer release times equal a more pumping track.
