    Ticon - 2AM

What is psychedelic = SUBJECTIVE Hence why i think dark psy is about as unpsychedelic as psy trance/goa trance can get...
  2. Sounds good to me. Writing full reviews can be veeeery time consuming...
  3. If you like them then be sure to check Aes Dana, Rena Jones, Carbon Based Lifeforms and Celtic Cross. Some of the best brain massage music ever And if you like ott then pick up slackbaba's and the beat goes om. little more upbeat than ott, but awesome nonetheless
  4. One of my all time favourite chill out albums, with my all time favourite chill out song: Air Song. This album practically defines the word 'soundscapes'. 10/10
  5. Been listening to this lots as of late, awesome mix my friend: fantastic selection and great mixing. would have loved to have been there and danced my tits off to it
  6. For me, this album stands alongside Son Kite's Colours as my all time favourite progressive album. So much variety, so many sounds, so much intricacy... Outstanding from start to finish. Not really much to add to all the great reviews above, so I'm just gonna go ahead and give this album an 11/10 Favourites: 2 (!), 3, 4 (!!), 6 (!!!), 7 (!!!), 8, 9 (!)
  7. Basilisk that Sonify EP is fookin AWESOME. haven't been this impressed by an ep for a while... anything else on your site that resembles this? and you know if has any other releases planned?
  8. No one? I wanna see the results! Gonna be a close one this year for sure...
  9. Done Still gotta write that human blue review... Got some good compilations this year too. Ah so little time
  10. Best morning trance album of last year IMO, surpasses even Vibrasphere´s latest effort (which I also liked a lot). Beautiful, emotional, relaxing melodies that you can just float away to.... Gorgeous. Some more upbeat, slightly funkier stuff with a nice housey/loungey feel to it on here as well which I also like, although the album is at its best when those morning melodies are shining through. Favourites: 1, 2 (!), 4, 9 (!!!), 10 8/10

  12. I wouldn´t exaclty call the following poppy/housey but they all have a similar vibe to models on cocaine: Beauty and the beat - The sogfiles (and their singles on compiliations) Brisker & Magitman (debut album out soon but they have loads of great singles on comps to check out) Duca Human Traffic V/A - Kinky Beats V/A- Riding Out V/A- Stereo Slave V/A- Trash Art D-Noz & Beckers- City lights Tegma- Lo-Fi Adventures Sebastien Leger- Planets Maelstrom, aka DJ Emok- S/T And possibly Haltya- Book of nature (although might be a bit too weird for what you´re looking for) Really enjoying this type of music atm, granted may not be the most inventive, complex music in the world, but it reeeaally makes me want to dance and always puts me in a good mood
  13. yas, that be right. i´d never heard any of the singles before though, so it was all new to me
  14. Beat you to it As i said in that topic, raj has also put one of their songs up on his myspace (the because track) I like it much better than proton pusher
  15. ive been listening to that tune on myspace quite a bit lately. really addictive The song from the video´s not quite so good though
  16. Theyve just put a rather amusing video of one of hteir songs up on youtube: funky shit
  17. Artist: Tegma Title: Lo-Fi Adventures Label: Tribal Vision Release Date: Feb 2007 Tracklisting: 1. In All Ears 2. East Block (CCCP mix) 3. Circles 4. Computer Disorder 5. Who Stole My Oscillator 6. Monday Star 7. What The Fuzz 8. Twister 9. Crank Up 10. Lo-Fi Adventures Like it or like it not, it seems that the veins minimal tech/tech-house/electro-house are becoming more and more an integral part of the psy scene. Lots of influential psy artists (Son Kite/Minilogue, Ticon, D-Nox & Beckers, The Delta/Extrawelt, BLT/Perfect Stranger etc) have either set up new projects dedicated to the genres or have started incorporating it into their own music, whilst big psy festivals such as Boom and Universo Paralello have recently started up ´alternative´stages also dedicated to pumping out these styles. I´m not really complaining though, as I´m a strong believer that music should be continuously evolving rather than getting stuck with the same formula for years on end, and because I'm particularly enjoying these crossovers that are coming out at the moment: I find them generally on the whole, to either be much more psychedelic that 90% of the full on that´s coming out at the same time and if they're not psychedelic then there's a high chance they will make me want to dance a hell of a lot more than 90% of full on too. Tegma are the next group to jump on this bandwagon. Whilst the album is still mainly based around the progressive roots of Tegma, it has a much more techy, mechanical feel to it than its predecessors, incorporating elements of minimal, house and electro. Do they do this well? Yes. Do they do it as well as some of the other psy artists who have also taken this direction (listed above)? No. Is it as good as their last two albums? No, definately not. But that´s not to say this is a bad album, it´s just that it´s pretty damn difficult to top a) the music that artists such as the ones above have lately been putting out and B ) Tegma´s previous efforts, Around the World in 80 Minutes and Encoded/Decoded, both which are amongst my all time favourite prog albums. Don´t get me wrong, there are some absolutely great tunes on here. East Block, for example, starts off with some driving, chunky minimal tech before sliding effortlessly into pounding progressive trance. Computer Disorder, Who stole my Oscillator and Monday Star all prove that Tegma are capable of writing the incredibly hypnotic music that they´re famous for (although not quite as well as before). Crank It Up on the other hand, whilst being a liiittle cheesy, will certainly tear any dancefloor to pieces. But, whilst this album is certainly good, one can´t help feeling slightly disappointed given the strength of Tegma´s last releases. It would definately be very nice to hear this on a dancefloor (lot´s and lot´s of deep, heavy energy present here), but it´s no way NEAR as psychedelic as their previous efforts and really lacks the magic of the Around the World in 80 Days and Encoded/Decoded. But then again, I am kind of glad that Tegma did take their music in a new direction rather than just re-releasing a tried and tested formula as so many artists do. It´s just a shame it didn´t quite come out right. Score 7/10
  18. It´s like the mixing of the mixed version of Left Behind, but yeah there´s definately room for oneself to mix with
  19. Artist: Haltya Title: Book of Nature Label Exogenic Records Release Date February 2008 Tracklisting 1. Nature's Secret 2. Rainbow Funkster 3. Finny Funny Finished 4. Kawaii Bushido 5. Borboleta Purpura 6. Daisy Chain 7. Between the notes 8. Mean Green Monster Machine 9. Firecracker 10. Make it look like an accident 11. Fry 12. Mothership 13. Walking On Sunshine As some of you may have gathered by now, I do enjoy my funky music. When I´m not on drugs, music with a funky vibe to it is usually the only kind that really makes me want to get up and dance like a fool to. Haltya´s last album was a perfect example of that kind of music: trance beats with REAL funk and jazz elements to it. I loved it. Book of Nature however, goes waaay beyond that album and is really a rather amazing achievement if you ask me. There are still the elements of their trance beats with lots of live funkyness over the top, but this time you have a whole bunch of different genres thrown in on top, all blended together with such crazyness that you often have to stop and ask yourself: What the fuck am I listening to here?? The whole album is absolute madness and very, very weird from start to finish. It has so many twists and turns in it and so much great experimentation you can never know what to expect next. Which is precisely why I love it. So nice to hear something this FRESH sounding To me it sounds like what might happen if Merv Pepler, Raja Ram and Mr Scruff teamed up to write an album and took waaaay too much amphetamine and LSD in the process. Whilst it always keeps very funky beats throughout, it can get rather intense at times with so many strange noises going on that you feel like your brain might explode, which gives the album a great juxtoposition of being so funky that it makes you want to dance like a lunatic and yet being so strange that you almost can´t dance to it. That´s about as far as I can go to describing this somewhat undescribeable music methinks, you´ll just have to buy the album and listen for yourself if you wan´t a better idea of what it´s like. Trust me, I very much doubt you´ll regret it. Favourites: 2 (!ooh yeah, what an opener), 3, 5 (now this is twisted jazz...), 6, 8 (wtf???!!), Fry (!!), 12 (the ending to this one is just ), 13. Score: 9/10
  20. Artists: D-Nox & Beckers (+ guests) Title: City Lights Label: Progress Tunes Release Date: March 2008 Tracklisting: 1. Spielen HATFIELD AND BECKERS 2. Where Is The Love BECKERS 3. Crazy People (D-Nox and Beckers rmx) LOGIZTIK SOUNDS 4. Keep On HATFIELD AND BECKERS 5. Toronto D-NOX AND BECKERS 6. Paperboy (D-Nox and Beckers rmx) LUETZENKIRCHEN 7. Inside out (D-Nox and Beckers rmx) VISIONARY FT. MYKEL 8. What Is Real (Make U Move Mix) D-NOX AND BECKERS 9. Blew (Beckers rmx) ANTIX 10. Don't Sleep (D-Nox and Beckers rmx) SUGIURUMN 11. Something For Your Mind D-NOX AND BECKERS 12. Look At That HOMERUN 13. Alphavella VELKRO, D-NOX AND BECKERS As mentioned in one of my posts earlier, it really took a while for D-Nox & Becker´s new direction to click with me. I got Left Behind quite a while ago, listened to it a few times, thought it was cool but didn´t really pay it that much attention. When I saw their new compilation, City Lights, I thought I might give that one a try as well so I bought it, again listened to it once and thought the same thing. However, the second time I put it on (I was pretty stoned at the time I must admit), the music suddenly clicked: all the beats, bleeps, sounds, melodies, the amazing rises and falls in the music, everything all just melted together and I was completely hypnotised. I listened to the whole album straight through (something I rarely do) and loved every track. Later I also put on Left Behind again and the same thing happened (even though I wasn´t stoned that time ), and it´s now probably my favourite album of last year. And City Lights is proving to be my favourite so far this year. I personally don´t understand why people who reviewed Left Behind said they didn´t find this style of music to be psychedelic at all as I find to have lots of nice psychedelic undertones: it really sucks you in, has lots of weird sounds and bleeps that are constantly morphing, changing, rising and falling throughout the tracks. City Lights still very much follows in this vein. I´m not going to go into detailed descriptions of D-Nox & Becker´s style, because 1) I actually find it pretty difficult to describe/pigeonhole. It definately has a good minimal vibe throughout but I find them to be quite a lot crunchier and more upbeat than most minimal artists I´ve heard; and 2) because the vibe is still very similar to their previous album (if it ain´t broke, don´t fix it eh?), so those who are familiar with that album should know what to expect. I also think that Goannes nailed their style on the head with this few words describing Left Behind: That description is most definately applicable for City Lights as well. However, there are some noticeable differences between the two. I´d say that this album has a more upbeat and funky feeling to it than the last album, with more housy elements and more grooves than Left Behind (think of more songs in the same vein as Pick Up). Ít´s also has a more ´bleepy´ feel to it in general than Left Behind (think Shanghai), which is good for me as it´s all these crazy bleeps that I really enjoy about D&B´s music. Therefore, it's safe to say that City Lights is more club/dancefloor orientated than its predecessor, and as such is a little less experimental and one could say a little more commercial. But to be honest, if that´s the case then I really don´t really care as this music is currently top of my list to hear played on a big soundsystem dancing my ass off to it All in all, I think I prefer this album to Left Behind: it´s another absolute stunner of a release by two of my favourite producers of the moment. Favourites: 1 (!), 2 (first two are wonderfully hypnotic), 4 (!), 7 (so funky this one...), 8 (!!), 9, 10 (! jazz and minimal, love it!) 12, 13 Score: 9/10 NB: There is little new material on this album, it is basically a mixed compilation of some of their best tunes and remixes from last year. However, it's still worth picking up if you already have most of these tracks IMO, if only for the lovely mixing on the album that gives it a wonderful flow and makes it easy to listen to your favourite D&B tracks one after the other
  21. Sounds just up my street, am downloading now. But any chance of the set list please?
  22. Just about all of the ones from within the psy scene have been covered already, but heres a couple from outside it that have quite a nice psychedelic vibe : Future Sound of London: Dead Cities, Lifeforms, ISDN The Orb: UForb, Adventures beyond the ultraworld The KLF- Chill Out Kruder & Dorfmeister- The K&D sessions (not exactly that psychedelic but one of the greatest chillout albums ever IMO)
  23. I really hope they pull out all the stops and get a good string & brass section along with the other musicians for this. That would be so amazing!! :posford:
  24. Main stages I hope. I personally prefer his chill out stuff but i find it better for home listening rather than when at a festival. And i reeeeeeaaally wanna be on dancefloor that plays brainbow and black arrow
