  1. One of my favourite things about psy trance parties are the visual installations/decorations that always go hand in hand with them. Psy trance rinses every other genre on the planet in terms of the sheer amount of effort that usually gets put into making the party look as amazing, and psychedelic, as possible, So what's been the best visual installation at a psy trance party that you've experienced? Be sure to post pics! Mine would have to be the main room at twisted's 10th anniversary, 88 screens, including loads on the walls and the ceiling! Some photos:
  2. +. I think just about all of the members on this board have a pretty good idea what the term 'psychedelic' is and we should place enough trust in the experienced music listeners we have here (of which there are many) to decide whether an album is psychedelic or not and deserves to catch the attention of other lovers of psychedelic music and in which case should have a review written about it. We all know the psy trance scene is putting out a lot of shit at the moment and so its great (for me at least) to get wind of other releases that are a step above in both quality and psychedelia than what a lot of supposed 'psy' trance artists are putting out. Not meaning to be too cynical and all, but i think if we stuck to only reviewing psy trance albums then psynews is going to start showing a lot of the same faults that the current psy trance is showing (ie lack of variety, lack of psychedelia, lack of innovation, lack of openmindedness etc). Psynews shouldn't have to suffer from the same problems that the psy trance scene is suffering from... Also I don't think we have to worry about randoms coming on here to review some random techno/house album because they saw that someone reviewed trentemoller...
  3. I fucking love ninja tune, one of my all time favourite record labels. Havent got a bad album that been released by them. I wish they would hold record label parties like twisted does, i would kill to see all of the ninja tune guys to play in one night!!!

Green nuns of the revolution has the best use of electric guitar in psy trance in my collection :posford:
  5. November 19th supposedly (my birthday, wooohooo!) But then again this is twisted we are talking about so you are most likely to be looking at a release june/july next year
  6. Balls. Sorry I have to disagree. There´s loads of good electronica going round at the moment. Granted, there´s a LOT more bad stuff going around, but that doesnt mean that the electronica scene is dying.
  7. There is a postal strike in the UK atm, so thats probably why you havent got it yet. Perfect timing as usual
  8. there's a torrent already?!! fuck me people are quick to get these things up on the net. Hows the first listening experience going traveller? Use headphones or surround sound, its much better
  9. the opening to this album is without a shadow of a doubt the most beautiful thing thats come out of twisted thus far Too early to comment on the rest yet, but what a way to open an album
  10. Apparently the album's just been released for download on iTunes. I'm so tempted to buy it, even though i've already pre ordered, as I'm not going to be able to listen the album til november when i go back home and it's going to be impossible to resist when the reviews come in.... Oh and Simon H just confirmed on the twisted board that all the pre ordered copies are getting signed by benji and simon :posford: Edit: fuck it, i bought it. couldn't resist. and it's only £7 Downloading as i type...

  13. yah that's the one, so i'm told. Never seen the part of twin peaks that she's in though. is it good?
  14. Neither of the following are strictly psy trance, but definately match your description: Hybrid- Dreaming your dreams - sounds kinda like a dreamy psy-breakbeat track, with a wonderful transcendental piece of orchestration and beautiful vocals by Julie Cruise I'm gonna get shot for the next one, but I don't care: DJ Tiesto- In my memory - vocals done by one of my all time favourite vocalists: Nicola Hitchcock. She has the most amazingly ethereal, angelic voice and is just a damn right beautiful track, regardless of the fact that its by tiesto
  15. I can't believe no one's mentioned DJ Shadow!!! Endtroducing... had a MASSIVE impact on the electronica scene when it came and paved the way for many more artists who would experiment with sample based music (RJD2, Amon Tobin etc etc) Also Portishead, along with massive attack (who've already been mentioned) were exceedingly influential with their release Dummy. Look at just about every band with a DJ and a female singer and they will almost always recognise portishead as an major influence St Germain is another one. Boulevard and tourist were the single biggest influences on the nu jazz scene IMO
  16. I am sadden to see that you have no reger messages in your boc :)

  17. some stuff like that: Human Blue- Electrolux Atmos- 2nd Brigade Doof- It's about time Perfect Stranger- Learning=Change or Changed Broken toy is also quite IMish
  18. I've never heard any morning side that have incorporated jazz to that extent. Maybe the odd sax sample, but i'd hardly call that a psy-jazz crossover...
  19. The static are back! And WHAT an album to come back with. I've been on a bit of a honeymoon period with this album over the last month or two and so didn't want to review it in case my opinion of it changed over time. Well... it hasn't, I still bloody love this album. Out of all the static albums I own (abduction, science of the gods, crash and burn and b-world) this has quickly become my favourite, and by quite a long way as well, which is really saying something. This album has everything that you (well I, in any case) could want from a psy trance album: hypnotic melodies; funky grooves; lots of brain melting psychedelia and cracy, cracy synths and effects; loads of energy but with floaty, spaced out chilled moments as well; experimentation within the genre and with other genres; some great buildups and moments of supremem twistedness. And, so let's get on with the tracks: Invasion- I was a little apprehensive when I first heard this as the opener, thinking it might set the tone for the rest of the album. Fortunately, it doesn't. It doesn't have much energy and the samples are almost too oldschool to the point of being cheesy (even for eat static!). It does work well as an opener though: it's got some spacey floaty melodies with some funky beats. I like the way it works now after repeated listens: it almost feels as though on this track you are watching a sci-fi program, but towards the end of it things start to get a progressively weirder until you realise that your actually being pulled into the sci-fi program 6/10 Sucker Unit- This is more like it! Starts off with some alienesque ambience and droning which is kind of freaky. Especially if played loud. The chessyness is gone now and you know your getting sucked in... In comes the first psy trance beat of the album which builds and builds and builds until it literally sounds like (the musical equivalent of?) an alien invasion. Then the main beat cuts out again and in comes some squelchy, funky techno with effects going all over the place (sounds awesome on headphones/surround sound). The last minute of the song has an great build up and goes absolutely mental for the last minute before moving onto the next song 8/10 Trantaloid- The next four songs for me are the crux of the album, and are now four of my all time top rated psy trance songs. Trantaloid is exceedingly hypnotic, with a deep, dark, driving beat. There is a fantastically twisted part from about 3.20-4.00 where a strange voice that sounds like it's going 'woah, woah, woah, woah' is repeated a few times before getting sped up until it spirals out of control, the beat then cuts out and is replaced by a deeeeep bassline drone that morphs into a bassline that sounds like it had been somehow hiding under the previous one. Again, the end of the song speeds up again until we have some fantastically dark, mean psy trance. Genius song. 10/10 Deadly Amphibian- The most psychedelic song on the album. More traditional psy trance than the rest of the album, but done exceedingly well. How the fuck they did those synths that come in around 0.40 I do not know, but they sound awesome. I remember hearing the part at 2.30-3.20 (the meanest part of the song) for the first time when they played it live and I actually had to stop dancing because I couldn't understand what was happening to the music. Brain melting indeed 10/10 Sin Quest- A little less psychedelic and a bit more mainstream trance than the other songs, but still great with lots and lots and lots of energy and a absolutely monstrous beat. I especially love the alien invasion trance effects that come in at around 3.50, anyone who isn't jumping up and down like a nutter to this part is deaf 9/10 Tractor Beam- Takes for itself a psy trance structure but uses a drum and bass/jungle beat. Not quite as twisted as the last ones, but very, very hypnotic. 9/10 Pachama- The tempo gets taken down quite a big notch here which is quite disappointing. This is quite a cool song, with almost a trip-hop beat and some great spaced out effects. Definately scores points on ingenuity, but kind of an anti-climax considering the last 4 stormers 7/10 Visitors- Another fantastic full on track. Very alienesque and very funky. I love the way the main melody comes back and forth in waves throughout the song. 9/10 Brassneck- Where did they get this opening sample from?! Very, creepy... This ones a bit more midtempo but still retains a good level of psychedelia. As Snapinho wrote, the chopped up vocals work like a treat in this song 8/10 De-Classified- Very trippy and very otherworldly downtempo song. Great melodies floating all over the place. 8/10 So all in all this is a definate: 9/10 for me
  20. I'd love to see a psy trance-jazz cross over, especially if it was done with a live jazz band and a psy trance producer. Like what St Germain does/did but instead of using house music, using psy instead. I can already hear psychedelic versions of songs like so flute and street scene in my head... Twud be quite hard to pull off without sounding cheesy though... Edit: it was also make quite a cool psy chill crossover, with gentle jazz melodies weaving in and out of softly hypnotic beats, floaty synths, and spaced out effects
  21. Something to wet your appetites Nice review Just got an email from twisted too saying the 'final' release date is going to be 15th of October. The question is do we believe them this time?
