Yay, I'm glad this section has been restored The last movie I saw was Choke. It was pretty good, based on the book of the same name that was written by Chuck Palaniuk, who also wrote Fight Club so expect a pretty crazy ass story line with lots of twists and turns and even more laughs along the way. It gets a 7.5/10 from me. Next film I reeeeally want to watch is darren aronofsky's (director of the fountain and requiem for a dream) new one: The Wrestler
  2. About £15. haha. Although I do like buying CDs for the sake of making my cd collection look nice, I buy them more to support the artists I like so if the only way of buying a rare CD is buying it second hand for a ridiculous price and I know my money will to the seller rather than the people who wrote it then in such circumstances I have no qualms about illegally downloading said album
  3. pretty sure that that was matt posting there, if you look at his other messages. I too shall click once a day if it means we get a new GNOTR album
  4. Amazon's selection is usually much better than play's IMO. You can find most releases on their, and usually for quite cheap prices if you go through the marketplace rather than with amazon direct.
  5. Not an album, but feel I need to comment on Audiojack's new remix of Holding the Moth. Trippy, groovy, intricate, proggy techno at its best Can check it on beatport.
  6. why doesn't goa gil do sets like this anymore? Would have to loved to dance to 7 hours of music like this when i saw him last instead of hour after hour of stroke inducing dark psy
  7. A definate +1 on the etnoscope and Phutureprimitive recommendations. Can't believe no one's mentioned around the world in 80 minutes by tegma yet! Classic album!! Also Sound Field's EPs are great too, and you cann get them for FREE from basilisk's ektoplasm site (here (!!!) and here)
  8. agreed. absolute stunner of a tune. All the first 3 tracks in fact are all amazing, kind of falters off a little bit after that but still worth getting.
  9. Really good year for me. Got loads of releases that i love: Perfect Stranger: Free Cloud (neeed to write a review for this one. def my favourite of the year) Ticon: 2am Kino Oko: Alphabetically divided highway Haltya: Book of nature OOOD: Fourthought Human Blue: Base basket buffet (still no review for this stunner either! argh!) Electrypnose: Funked Up Ra: 9th Distant System: Spiral Empire Eat Static: back to earth V/A: Cabaret Ace Ventura: Re:Boot The Zap!: Big Bang Tegma: Lo-Fi Adventures + loooooads of psybreaks singles which have been killing it this year. No albums to mention yet though... Still want to get my hands on Atmos, Vibrasphere, Talpa and AKD before i can vote though... Looking forward to 2009 too, hopefully we will get a new shpongle, younger brother, BT, the Eat Static's 20th anniversary album, allaby, son kite, solar fields, Slackbaba, Atomic Drop and many more i'm sure. And Exogenic Breaks should put out some more good releases, and Broken Robot records (Far too loud's new label) willl be up and running in 2009 which is also rather exciting.
  10. Portishead: Third Headphonics: Evolution of Funk D-Nox & Beckers: City Lights Mr Scruff: Ninja Tuna And loads of singles, but I can't be arsed to go through my collection and remember which ones were released in 2008 or in 2007
  11. I am also very pissed off with them. But to be fair, earthcore are currently launching a law suit against twisted because shpongle pulled out of their concerts in march because earthcore didnt pay them (earthcore is sueing them for slander and loss of business apparently...) Still it would be nice to hear from twisted a single update as to why and how long this has been delayed for, but their fans have got absolutely nothing so far from the twisted HQ...
  12. I'm actually going to this now FSOL LIVE!!! :posford: :posford: Will be sure to rub it in as much as possible when i get back
  13. you shud come across to the UK for one of the festivals he usually plays at (glade or waveform) Don't think eat static are that well known outside of the UK! But yeah, they are definately one to 'see live before death', on a par with green nuns for the best live sets I've ever seen! and I can't stop listening to those new tunes on those videos, sooooo good. I just love the female vocals on the one on vid 4 and that monstrous bassline of the new one on vid 3
  14. Merv is still most definately holding his own on the famous static live sets. Different set up now (not as much line synth work ) but still wicked! Vid 1 Vid 2 Vid 3 Vid 4 Thoughts? As good live as they used to be with both of them? Merv's also working on a 20th anniversary new album apparently. He played a couple of the new tracks last time i saw them at waveform and they were fantastic! e. you can hear one of them on the fourth video (pretty sure it's a new one, if not then i want to know where i can buy it ). and also another one half way through the 3rd video, which has been going round their live sets for a while now, which is an absolute TUNE!!
  15. Just remembered eat static have some awesome latin tracks, will see if i can fit one of them in :posford:
  16. Legend! Cheers for the recommendations rino, I'm beatporting the ones that are on there now and will find the other ones asap. E. those ending tracks you posted are wicked but waaay too hard for the type of set i'm gonna have to play. It's for a student event, so the whole set has to be pretty accessible and as funky as possible. they will certainly serve for another day though Can't find most of the latin tracks on beatport and can't access slsk from here so will to check soon!
  17. Hallo everyone, I'm supposed to be doing a dj set for a charity event for refugees in colombia soon and want to play a bit of latin electronica to fit in with the theme, but having trouble finding some that's still got quite a driving beat but with some good and very funky, but not ott, latin influences. The only track i've been able to find so far that i like is latin lovers by monica kruse. Any recommendations from anyone here? Some techno mixed with latin would be perfect as that's what most of the rest of the set's gonna be made of. Also a song with a good climax at the end would be good as would like to finish it with something like that... Cheers in advance
  18. that was indeed a most excellent thread. although i think yahel covers may even have more potential ;)
  19. I think we should have a photo shop/caption challenge anyway, it's kinda related to psy trance and it would be highly amusing
  20. do a youtube search for extratone speedcore and listen to what comes up. The whole genre is just laughable to me Like nemo, I just simply don't understand these genres of music. I mean completely do not understand it, and i don't even get how other people can actually enjoy listening to that. I've tried going to a hardcore party before and lasted about 20 minutes before I felt like my head was going to explode and i had to leave. My friend is a hardcore producer and he says that the rule amongst hardcore music is 3 bars the same, 1 different and does not like music that doesn't follow this rule Breakcore a la venetian snares however is a different story
  21. Antix- twin coast discovery? Yes ok i have to agree with that. There is still certainly lots of room for experimentation within the psy trance genre itself without necessarily progressing into other genres. Albums like artifakt's the magus, ra's 9th and your own new one this year goes to prove that It's just using the same formula within these genres that becomes so unbearably annoying and frustrating along with the thinking that often accompanies it whereby anything that doesn't stick to this formula is instantly discredited as not being 'psy trance'
  22. Also, as a side note but related to the above post, this is also why I believe mr Posford has such a diehard fanbase (myself included): he is one of the few artists out there who brings something new and interesting into the scene with every release that he puts out. This is the reason why I buy any of his new releases anyway, even if some of his newer stuff isn't as draw droppingly amazing as his older albums.
  23. Close mindedness is IMO the biggest cancer of today's scene. I personally welcome all of the new outings from psy trance artists that use certain elements of the genre but combine them with techno, breakbeat, electro, minimal etc etc, even if it means that its not necessarily as psychedelic (in the psy scene definition of the term, which is generally pretty narrow IMO) The full on, progressive and goa formulas have all been worked to death and it deeply annoys me to see people criticise music just because they don't consider it to be 'psychedelic' and instead can't judge it for its own musical value (the psynews thread for the reviews of trentemoller's album sums this attitude perfectly IMO) Music needs to continually evolve and progress in order to stay interesting.
  24. Here's the track listing from our first show yesterday so you can get an idea of what you'll be in for on the show: Trentemoller: Take me into your skin Danny Byrd: Supersized Younger Brother: All I want Boxcutter: Endothermic Kino Oko: Made in Satisfaction Crystal Method: Trip like I do Xploding Plastics: Treat me mean I need the reputation BT: Flaming June
  25. Hallo there fellow psynewsers! Using this thread to inform you all of a new radio show that I am starting with my friend Henry tomorrow that I thought some of you might be interested in tuning in to. It's called Eclectic Electric and is dedicated to all genres of non-commercial, eclectic, interesting and just damn good electronica, both old and new. We also intend to do artist, genre and technology spotlights, live mixes, mini-mixes and interviews (hopefully.) I think a lot of people on this forum would like the type of music that we plan to play, so do tune in! We're also interested in promoting DJs and unsigned producers across the world, so if any of the producers on here have recently written a track that they feel would be worthy of hearing on our show then feel to get in touch, send it to us and hopefully we'll be able to get in on the show! Also if you're a DJ we'd be interested in playing any mini-mixes that you've made (mixes of around 10 minutes in length chopping and changing between a few tracks), so again feel free to get in touch, send us your mix and we'll get it on the show. Similarly, I know some good, signed producers lurk on this forum so if you live in england or happen to be anywhere near birmingham on the weekend and fancy coming in for an interview to promote your stuff then get in touch and we'd be glad to have you on the show! I'd also like the utilize the vast music knowledge that lots of people have on this forum, so if you're really a digging a track as of late (preferably one that has been recently released) then use this thread to let us know about it and we'll get in on next weeks show. The tracks can be from any genre of electronica... Would be REALLY helpful if people could do this, as we can't keep fully up to date with everything that comes out, so keep those tracks coming! You can also use our facebook group to do this, as well as to keep up to date with the tracks we play and news etc about the show. The link is here You can tune into the show every saturday at 9pm GMT anywhere in the world from our net broadcast: http://www.radio.warwick.ac.uk/listen/ or if you live locally (coventry/warwick/birmingham) then you can tune it at 1251 AM. So, hope those of you that manage to tune in enjoy it! We are rather excited
