  1. +1. DP's vote is v important in the world of psynews
  2. Lifeforms takes a loooot of listens before it finally hits you. I kinda liked it for a long time, until i listened to it by myself one night whilst a little high, alone in my room and the amazingness of the album suddenly hit me, it all fell into place. I've heard the same thing happens with quite a lot of people with this album and that this is the beauty of it (correct me if i'm wrong?) Dead cities on the other hand... if you dont find that a psychedelic journey through alien, desolate landscapes then there is something wrong with your brain IMO e. and i agree with you on the slackbaba album too. not sure id call it ethnic though, definately not as much as ott anyway
  3. Definately agree to that. I enjoyed entheogenic for about the first two listens. After that I just found that exceedingly boring and hopelessly unoriginal. Not my cup of tea anymore, shpongle are the only ones that can really do it right IMO. And also definately agree with snapihno's post. FSOL are the masters of psychedelic ambient, and the others you mention all rock too. Don't think anyone's mentioned people like: Trentemoller BT (this binary universe, not the early stuff) or Sasha's Airdrawndagger album yet though
  4. anyone heard the new human blue yet? just got it today and first impressions are reeeeaaally good. easily as good as his others, if not better. too early to write a review yet thoughj
  5. I'm with basilisk and the like on this one. Whilst it can be a real pain having to dig thru all the shit to find some good releases, theyre still definately there (especially in the prog scene atm imo, which released some stunners last year). And also fortunately i must say psynews has kept true to itself and the scene: just about all of my favourite releases that i bought last year i bought because of positive reviews here on psynews. It covered a very good percentage of the releases worth buying last year, so keep it up guys, writing reviews on albums you think are worth buying really does make a difference as it shows people like me (and many others) where to look in the scene for the real gems which in turn wll help the producers who are staying true to the scene get more attenton and thus continue to put out great music!
  6. Hello there psynews. I need some recommendations from your wise minds of two kinds of psytrance that i've been vibing a lot lately. 1. Firstly I'm looking for some psytrance that is deep, hypnotic (the most important word here), melodic (but not 100% essential and not too melodic to the point of becoming cheesy), with a good steady rythmn and some nice grooves. Definately nothing too hectic or full on, but rather the more steady/controlled type of psy that can you can completely lose yourself in whilst dancing to it. Whilst most of the recommendations below are progressive, dont feel you have to limit your recommendations to that. Oh and they also dont have to be limited to psytrance, anything that fits the above description is good for me Some examples of the type of music I'm after: Atmos: Metro Deluxe, Umbau, Scent of a tunnel, Transmission in Vein, Ordinary Weekend Doof: The last half of forever, Dawn of a new error Ace Ventura: Psychic Experience, The light, Sao Paulo, Presence Perfect Stranger: Hyperdrive, Those Days, Morning Blues, Truth Chi A.D.: Book of eden, Hammerhead, Beyond the Singularity Human Blue: Atom, Rollercoaster, Carpe Diem, Dream Creator, Memorexis Solar Fields: Black Arrow, Brainbow, Summer OOOD: Free Range (in reference to later bit when the melodies start to kick in), Solar Sway 2. Secondly I am looking for something FUNKY!!. That crazy, make you want to get up and dance your ass off type of psy trance. Full of energy, full of crunchy funkyness. You know what I mean Some examples: Green Nuns of the Revolution: Thunder Thighs, Octofunk, Conflict, Klunk! Eat Static: Visitors, Love Truncheon, Trantaloid Broken Toy: Down on the farm, Change/Derange, Candy, Necessary Roughness OOOD: Free Range, Smoke a lot, Marijuana Younger Brother: Weird on a monday night, The receptive, Evil and Harm, Magic Monkey Juice, I am a freak (Shpongle: My head feels like a frisbee, When Shall i be free, DMT) Thanks in advance!!
  7. Yah that is a problem with putting tickets on sale so damn far away from the date. however, it is shpongle live so i doubt there will be a problem in getting rid of a ticket for the same price you bought it, or probably more, if something does come up at the last minute... This is my thinking anyway, so i just thought fuck it and bought it
  8. Depends on whether you want to watch the concert sitting down or standing up really. I got standing
  9. Tickets just went on sale for this. Got mine Any other psynewsers gonna be making the journey?
  10. Iboga and Ultimae are my top two as of the moment. Both released nothing short of the highest quality last year. Awesome stuff
  11. Maybe so, but I still dont think there are many people out there who can play the synths like joie can...
  12. I come as the bearer of bad news just read this on eat static´s blog which says that Joie has left the band and so the eat static that we have known and loved for so many years is now no more. Although merv is gonna keep em going, it means no more real eat static live acts and no more future production from them I suggest we make this thread into a tribute thread for one of the oldest, consistently brilliant, consistently crazy, and one of consistently spellblindingly amazing live acts that have ever graced our scene. Post your eat static thoughts and memories here....
  13. E. updated again after i finally got my hands on solar fields earthshine. atm tis not quite as good as i expected, but definately in my top 5. Hope its not too late to change my vote, after some more listens of some of the albums of 2007 I´ve changed my mind. My list for psytrance now goes as follows: 1. Perfect Stranger- Changed (this album keeps getting better and better with every listen. I just love the electro/techno influences in some of the tracks, for me its a really exciting direction taken by the artists involved and i hope it gets furthered with future albums...) 2. Eat Static- Declassified 3. Ace Ventura- Rebirth (VERY tough decision between 2 and 3...) 4. Solar Fields- Earthshine 5. Prometheus- Corridor of Mirrors 6. Dimension 5- Transdimensional (feels rubbish to put such a good album as number 6 on my list, but as its a re-release i kind of only wanted new releases in my favourites this year. sorry D5!) My chill list stays the same. Also, I have yet to pick up solar fields earthshine, and I have a sneaky suspicion (judging by the samples, the reviews and solar fields´ previous efforts) that this one may well snatch first place. But not gonna get it til after feb, so i guess this list will have to do for now
  14. I think this is an absolutely wonderful album. Alongside Perfect Stranger´s Changed album as the best progressive, and also one of the very best of the years. This is very different from changed though, whilst that one took a slightly darker, heavier, more electro/techno inspired approach Rebirth is a much lighter, dreamier album that just lets you float away on its melodies. It´s also one of those great album that sounds just as good on medium volume on a home stereo as it does pumped up on a massive system in order to get everyone dancing. Oh, and The light is DEFINATELY the highlight of this album and probably my favourite single of 2007. That break in the middle sets the blood rushing through my veins everytime i hear it. Phenomenal stuff 8.5/10 for me
  15. ah good good. just checking i had all of them, which i do I would also add doofs lets turn on to that list, and, as chis said, chi a.d´s earthcrossing as well.
  16. oooh, this on loooks very interesting. cant wait to pick it up when i get back from my travels
  17. Anyone get this email from twisted: So who reckons its actually going to happen this time then?
  18. And the other ones? Just out of interest Not much to really add to all the reviews on here, amazing album. However, i personally think that Lone Deranger tops it so it gets a 9/10 as such from me.
  19. seems to be quite a lot of love for perfect stranger´s changed album and still no reviews for it. must write one soon...
  20. Psytrance: 1: Eat Static: Declassified 2: Prometheus: Corridor of Mirrors 3: Perfect Stranger: Changed 4: Ace Ventura: Rebirth 5: Dimension 5- Transdimensional (this should technically be higher, but as its a re-release i´m putting it as number 5) Downtempo: 1: Younger Brother- The Last Days of Gravity 2: Asura- Life2 Haven´t bought any other psy chill cds this year im afraid...
  21. no new perfect stranger album set for this year? He played lots of either new or unreleased material at UP, was hoping it would go into a new album as it was fuckin wicked
  22. yup thats the one. should be out within the next couple of months im betting, considering its already finished. hope we get some live shows with the release too, dendron is just the type of music i like to dance my ass off to
