  1. I never use more than one synth for bass. I usuallly stack two oscillators within the synth itself (saw + sine one octave lower), may also enable unison in the saw osc (up to 3 saws stacked) but not always. I think making hamburgers of synths is more an EDM thing, not very common in psy.
  2. The amount of the info on the subject is tremendous but the problem is how to filter the actually useful info and leave the bollocks out. There are Youtube tutorials, 130+ pages Isratrance thread etc, but most of the advices and tutorials usually boil down to “I use these settings and it works for me”. If it works for someone else, it doesn’t automatically mean it will work for me since the tracks’ key, the bass pattern, the kick are just as important as the bass synth settings (huge thanks to Imba for sharing his bass patch, but I still haven’t even tried it cause I don’t expect it to change my world). So this thread should be more about the basic concepts rather than sharing settings and Youtube (which is also welcome though). So well, what may be important from my experience. - The synth choice. Some people say that every synth is fine as long as it has a saw oscillator and a 4 pole LP filter. This is not my experience, I think some synths do it much better than the others. Sylenth seems to be popular for a reason and I’ m getting the best results with it so far. - The key of the track. I’m writing most tracks in E minor because it’s easier for me to write the melodies in this key, but I guess it may be not the best key for the bass. What keys are commonly used? - The amount of oscillators or waves within one oscillator. Sometimes stacking several saws in one oscillator with locked phase and zero stereo spread sounds better than one saw, sometimes it doesn’t. Seems to work better for one note patterns like in progressive than for jumping full-on bass. - The starting phase of the oscillator – may make drastic change depending on the note length. - The suboscillator. I commonly use sine wave admixed to the saw one octave lower. The relative volume may depend on the key and the bass pattern, I think one note proggy patterns will sound fine with much louder sub than full-on basses jumping over one of two octaves, these usually require way less sub if any. - The filter and amp envelopes. This goes without saying that they are very important but I think they may be mostly set by ear. Highly depends on the bass pattern. - The external processing. All the tracks on my soundcloud have the bass decorated with various plugins like New Year’s tree, but I think none of these basses are especially good. Now I’m gravitating towards minimal processing, basically only an equalizer and a monoizer, al least it is easier to control. As for the eq settings, it was independently confirmed by two guys with very good ears that the harmonic frequencies can mask the fundamental bass tone making the bass muddy (e.g. if the bass is in E, 165 HZ may be a problematic area, where a wide cut may improve the clarity of the bass). What else may be important?
  3. And this is why you are reposting this track? Actually this dude made some serious efforts in copying this masterpiece (still not that good though)

  5. Sicne it has been proven numerous times that T2MU's tastes are directly opposite to mine I must listen to this album asap.
  6. To me this track sounds like average 90's goa, no better no worse (I mean the sound quality, not the music). What exactly you don't like about it? I guess, you may not like some synths, e.g. synth lines starting at 5:40 or 8:22 or 8:50 sound screechy and unpleasant, but there is hardly any way to fix it in a stereo file. This is how the patches were made on the synths. Bacisally the only thing that can be done with a stereo file is to make it stightly louder and fatter, add some bass, maybe slightly tune down some nasty frequencies but don't expect the result to be drastically different from the source file.
  7. Middle Mode do have an album. https://www.discogs.com/Middle-Mode-Another-Dimension/release/7853684
  8. Groovy and energetic, good atmosphere (pads, samples and all that), very good production, some nice melodic parts here and there. On the downside, somehow linear and predictable, the tracks have well-build tension but it often leads nowhere. 4/5
  9. I'm making a payment document. The number automatically assigned to it is 604. I think Psynews should know this very important fact Also I recently noticed that a trash bin near my home has 604 written on it.
  10. The video says it was published in 2014 To me it sounds neither modern nor oldschool, the sound misses both the clarity and punchiness of modern productions and the "juiciness" of old analogue synths and recording tracts. The track itself is ok, but I was never a fan of MFG anyway.
  11. This sounds very good, not only the bass, but the other things too. What synths did you use here? Yes, share the bass plz @Antic. I't a common techique to make the machine gun bass even more machine gun - you bounce a single 16-th note with all the processing and put it into a sampler, then write the bass patterns in the sampler track. As Padmapani said, it also makes sence if you do precise equing of your bass (actually this is pretty applicable to me, I do equalisation based on the root note harmonics, and note changes happen in my basslines very often, so I think I'll try resampling in my next tracks).
  12. Me too, actually. I freeze most other things but the bass always stays in midi cause there always may be a need to tweak envelope, or filter or something else as more synths are added to the track. I know many people (PsiloCybian e.g.) bounce a single note and put it into a sampler so I wonder if I'm missing something , but to me Sylenth's retrigger sounds accurate enough.
  13. Guys, do you resample your basslines? No matter which synth.
  14. No, it doesn't. Your comment really helped we to indentify the weak parts (which is not that easy at all) and improve them or get rid of them. Thanks, that's a high praise from you and I know that you are really picky listener
  15. Never understood the love for this album. Nice overall atmosphere but most of the tracks are too chaotic and hardly distinguishable from each other. Relativ, Sideform, Ticon and many others do the same thing much better. Gave it another go, well, it is actually better than I remember (the first three tracks do nothing for me but it gets better towards the second half). Still, it works better as a background for doing something boring than for close listen. Good sound design, but the tracks almost never really evolve, most of them are like 7-8 minutes long intro. Some nice melodic fragments, but not too much of them.
  16. Removed these, replaced them with more goaish stuff, made fatter and stronger bass Now I think it's almost finished
  17. It is correctly spelled "Zdravstvuite" (Здравствуйте).
  18. Check out this The album was released in 2014 but actually all tracks were made not later than 2005. The last track, Swamp of Sorrow is out of this world. Shaman of the Black Fate Castle is well worth listening too. Sorry, no Youtube but you may listen directly from Bandcamp.
  19. Are these humans? They have arms, legs and heads, they even move and speak, all the "trademarks" of a human being
  20. You are trying to make some very complex stuff without properly learning the basics first. Getting polyrhytmic music right is not easy at all, you should develop the strong sense of rhythm at the first place. Start with simpler melodies, simpler arrangements then move forward. Sorry to say, but this track doesn't sound psychedelic or even just danceable, just a total mess of unrelated melodies. I guess, you are aiming at something like this But if I were you I'd rather start with something like this
  21. The kick is a bit too loud and doesn't work well with the bass (and I have the impression that the bass has some drift, make sure that the osc phase on your bass is retriggered). You need to get more consistent groove in your kbbb Other than that, very nice track, really like the melodies and the synths.
