  1. This might be a clever way to reduce Bandcamp fees, and the total price might still be the same, but when I see $12 for shipping my only reactions are "ripoff" and "don't buy". It actually reminds me of all the crappy products you see on TV for $10 plus $20 for "shipping and handling". YMMV
  2. You do realize that your rave reviews are driving up the price of these albums. FEEL THE POWER!
  3. Lots of labels have distinctive sounds and styles. That's nothing new. Some people like Nano, some don't. I think the problem here, stated bluntly, is that Laughing Buddha just isn't that good. Yes, he was originally part of Cosmosis. Yes, he's worked with a lot of well known producers. But has he produced anything great or distinctive by himself? Nano's style isn't the problem. His collaborators aren't the problem. JVK is the problem.
  4. Is this available anywhere else besides SoundCloud (listen only)?
  5. I've always thought that Mexican Jesus was the weakest track on Infernal Angel. I always skip it. Anyway, glad to hear that Scatterbrain is back in action.
  6. I thought it was OK but not great. The plot had a lot of holes and the ending was too contrived. Inception was better.
  7. Try Globular http://www.ektoplazm.com/index.php?s=Globular
  8. Most of the Paraphone (Benjamin Klages) and Electric Sheep (Paraphone JV) tracks scattered throughout the Cosm albums are pretty good. Many of the remaining tracks are produced by one guy (Peer Schmid) under multiple names. I don't find those tracks nearly as consistent.
  9. One member of the duo is Arkadiy Tronets, who's also produced a lot of good music as JBC Arkadii.
  10. I'd be curious to know the results if one of the major labels (eg, Suntrip, DAT, Zion 604, etc) would try the following pricing experiment: Issue a new full length digital album by an established producer for a minimum price of approx 4 EUR / $5 (with the customer option to pay more if they want). Of course the producer would have to agree and the music would have to be good. A parallel CD album release would be optional. Would total digital sales revenues be higher or lower with such a reduced price? Just a thought.
  11. One advantage of Bandcamp is that you can work with them directly, which lowers costs and increases flexibility. Some labels and producers use Beatspace to indirectly access Bandcamp, and their album / track prices almost always seem higher than their peers.
  12. You may be used to higher prices in Europe, but 10-12 EUR for a CD, plus international shipping costs, is a non-starter for me. There are very few CD albums, modern or "vintage", where I'm willing to pay that much or more. There are also very few albums where I want to buy all the tracks, another disincentive to purchasing CDs. Obviously, CD collectors feel differently. However, I am perfectly willing to pay reasonable amounts for high quality digital downloads available on a timely basis (ie, within 2-3 days of the album release). My definition of reasonable is approx $1 per track, with a 20-30% discount if you buy the entire album. Of course labels and producers are free to charge whatever they want, but don't be surprised if music fans are resistant or use file sharing. I do believe that many music fans want to compensate producers, but there are limits, and high prices create an "all or nothing" scenario. Finally, pricing strategies should acknowledge the volume of new music released daily. Much of it is good, and a very small percent is great. As a fan, I'm not just allocating money, I'm allocating time. I am less likely to spend time listening to new goa or psy if I perceive the financial cost as "unreasonable" compared to alternative activities (including previously acquired music). I'm not saying this is fair, but it happens.
  13. Sonic Elysium - Mahaon (2011) Sonic Elysium is Alexey Mamzelev and Igor Gorbachev from Moscow. This album has received some recognition but maybe deserves more. The last three tracks are collaborations with Zirrex. http://www.discogs.com/Sonic-Elysium-Mahaon/release/3298358 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BXTDZg4aqXE http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5TFoG649hHk
  14. I liked most of his Spaceware album (after the first two tracks) from a few years ago.
  15. For those who might be interested, here's a link to a chart of Beatport EDM sales by genre for the last 10 years: http://mixmag.net/feature/industry-insider-10-years-of-beatport-stats
  16. Is it more aggressive to launch rockets on Israeli civilians, or to attempt to protect those civilians by stopping the rockets? (And if you don't like the Israeli's response, what's your alternative?) You might feel differently if you lived in Israel. However, everyone is entitled to his own opinion, and reasonable people may arrive at different conclusions.
  17. In all fairness, if you're going to criticize the Israeli army, let's at least mention Hamas's deliberate policy of using Gaza civilians as human shields for rocket launchers, weapons depots, and military command centers. Many so-called neutral UN facilities also serve the same function. Hamas has no more concern for the welfare of Gaza civilians than it does for Israelis. (How come all that cement ended up in tunnels rather than houses, schools, hospitals, infrastructure, etc?) Israelis are defensive because there's always a double standard. Let's at least hold Hamas accountable to the same standards that the international community always applies to Israel. Hamas shouldn't get a pass just because we have lower expectations for thugs and terrorists.

  20. Also available on Bandcamp: http://misledconvoy.bandcamp.com/album/tickling-the-dragons-tail Ring Wraith was the only track that sounded somewhat similar to Pitch Black.
  21. A pretty strong EP overall, but "stays in his comfort zone" is a good description. 7.5 / 10
  22. Just downloaded this album from Bandcamp the other day (only 3.50 EUR): http://ypsilon5.bandcamp.com/album/binary-sky Didn't really like Gaseous Blob, but the other tracks are pretty good, especially after you listen to the entire album a few times all the way through.
  23. There's a lot of good music but you have to sift through too many releases to find it. Nobody has that much time, and it doesn't really help the producers.
