  1. Whew...they mean business over there at Sub Terranean. Know how I know? Classics with an X. That's edgy and not f*cking around. But while it's true a few of these are classics you can find them all over the place. Cool thing is this album is dirt cheap so it'll save you some green if you don't have these. But if you're reading this I'm sure you already do. Few things... I hate...absolutely hate Jiggie of the Sphinx. That riverdance melody annoys the crap outta me. Astral Warrior is the track with the oft repeated sample which kinda takes away from its greatness. Don't know if I'd call the last three classics (I wouldn't) but they're still good tracks. So the title of the compilation is mostly correct with a few wtfs.
  2. "Who's nutty enough to do a thing like that?" Ah...I see you went with the more toned down shirt for your job interview. Jesus tap dancing Christ how many epileptic seizures is this guy responsible for? Olli Wisdom is a cornerstone of psychedelic trance from his beginnings as a goa artist to his evolution into a purveyor of ridiculous clothing. He's been making music longer than some of you have been alive and has earned credibility. So this ambitious gathering of his best and brightest over 2 albums is long overdue. Now let's be honest, like a lot of artists who've been in the game as long as he has he's had some...questionable tracks. As I've mentioned before his album covers made more of an impact than some of his work. I mean seriously who can forget the Holy Father behind the ones and twos? But when he gets it right you're in the presence of greatness. The 2 CD collection puts together tracks from his albums as well as stuff from compilations he's appeared on. They range from psychedelic goa stormers to his brand of acidic full on. The tracks with the goofy sound effects or guitar approximations I could do without. Surprise surprise the ones made with Simon Posford are pretty damn good. It's a 2-CD compilation and my 2 cents says that the first disc is great and the second is much weaker. By a f*cking country mile. Now Discogs says it's remastered so even if you're not a Space Tribe fanboy it's pretty cool to get these updated tracks under one roof. Psyshop
  3. Artist: Slum Title: Sunflowers of Today Label: Sunflowers of Today Records. (Really?) Date: May, 2008 1. Deprive of It 2. It's Luckylife 3. Don't Miss the Aimed Loot 4. I Don't Think That We Are Defeated 5. My Turn, Again 6. Get Close Behind Men Only of Pretense 7. Season of Counter Attack 8. Go and Go, Anyway Go 9. We Must Choose 10. It Expands Toward The Sun What in the holy f*ck? Look I try not to stereotype Japanese entertainment, but they make it so f*cking hard. Chubby dude in a diaper and a knee brace rubbing his belly whilst tentacles wave on his arms. For God's sake the machine gun out of the chick's ass is the least unusual thing here! Japanese people must be aliens. Ahem. I like sunflowers. Not sure which is cooler the album cover or the poorly translated Ingrish track titles. This is Shuji Ichimura who is apparently the James Brown of Japanese psytrance. Actually I made that up. Maybe he's the James Woods of Japanese psy. Now that doesn't even make sense. Anyhoo...this is his 2nd album and like all things Japanese it's a little out there. But since we're dealing with full-on it's a welcome change from the tired crap we've been force fe over the years. Take sounds that would be unpleasant by themselves and put it with a bass line and a hi hat and that's where we are. The power is there without most of the annoying things full-on hoists upon the ears. As this unfolds and I get wrapped up in images of smiley Japanese high school girls in ultra short uniforms engaging in ridiculous cosplay against a backdrop of intense colorful flashing lights while sumo wrestlers perform an awkwardly choreographed dance routines. I suppose this happens on the streets of Japan everyday. I don't know I've never been there. The album is a loud and pumping barrage that makes no apologies for its straight forward approach. It's more in your face than melodic, but it will get you moving. Sometimes it gets a little too heavy, but don't discount the havoc his dissonant style could wreak on the dance floor. Acid, guitars, funky last track...there's a bit of everything in here. Psyshop
  4. Artist: Vedama & Spies Title: Photonic EP Label: DAT Records Date: December, 2015 1. Vedama - Photonic 2. Vedama - Scanate 3. Spies - Ceremoniak 4. Spies - Backwash 5. Spies & Space Dimension - Ritual Rise 6. Spies - Backwash (Space Demon Remix) DAT Records have had an awesome run with nary a misstep haven't they? They just keep bringing back music that people clamor for and most times making it even better. Yeah I.F.O. was great...but a 3-CD I.F.O? NSFW *choir sings Hallelujah! Hallelujah!* Draeke could probably release his nephew's 6th grade piano recital and rack up sales. Not saying that he would, but *yells at nephew* "B flat! That's a B flat f*cker! We'll stay here all night! All f*cking night! You don't think Antic can't tell the difference between a B flat and an A sharp? Think again!" So I bought this EP with the Pleiadians and Opale (f*cking awesome by the way) EP and I'd never heard of these projects. Of if I had it went to the memory graveyard swimming in a pool of bong water or Doritos crumbs. Did I need it? Did I even give it a listen? Nope, but it's DAT so your just do it. Where the Opale EP was powerful melodic stuff that could've come from the mind of the Pleiadians or old Astral Projection, this is more of a crunchy style. Somewhat dark that blurs the line between goa and psy. Perhaps experimental where chances are taken with quality results. Backwash throws some tribal elements into the mix, but it gets truly psychedelic with the ever changing Ritual Rise and the Backwash Remix. While not my favorite DAT Records release (how could it be?) it's a solid psychedelic journey and might appeal to those who need a break from the classic goa sound. DAT Records Psyshop
  5. Artist: Various Title: Analogue Label: One Foot Groove Date: 2007 1. Artifakt - Baal 2. Electric Mirror - Play It From Your Heart 3. Hydraglyph - Totalled 4. Atyss - Atomik Circus 5. Rabdom L - Fire Bird 6. Zion Linguist - Twisted Radio 7. Kut 'N' Paste - Red Dragon Correkt 8. Noise Anomalie - Virus 9. S.C.A.M. - Dirty Trancin' 10. Konchord - Bounty Hunter "Them Illegals took ur jobs!" A redneck can be blissfully ignorant about a lot of things but guns, poor hygiene, and f*cking his sister probably aren't one of them. But hey I ain't mad atcha Cleetus, nobody's perfect. I am ignorant about a lot of things too. Middle East politics. Surgery. What I can and can't wear after Labor Day...Just sayin' nobody knows it all. Take this label for instance. They're from South Africa (which is already good enough for me) and I have only been acquainted with two of their releases. But holy sh*t they were monsters. If you like the night time psytrance you typically get from South Africa do yourself a favor and check out the only album from Kut 'N' Paste and Replenishing Roots from Tryambaka. Scorchers, but finding a copy of the former can be difficult as they went full-on Yabai on a brother. So this compilation mastered by The Artifakt showcases lots of dark night time goodness. The mood is heavy and the bass lines rumble. It's a solid bit of dark-themed night music and has aged well. I would say there isn't much filler and would be a solid purchase. Who knows if the label is still active cause I've come to realize you cannot rely on Discogs. Kinda like wikipedia a bit. But this label was definitely heading in the right direction. Beatspace
  6. Artist: Various Title: Passages Label: Ultimae Records Date: April, 2014 1. James Murray - Passing Through Walls 2. Fingers In The Noise - Delicate 3. Cygna - Within 4. Brando Lupi - Opal 5. Miktek - Kinematics 6. Murya - Der Blaue Engel 7. Martin Nonstatic - Moments 8. Lars Leonhard - Deeper Direction 9. Aes Dana - Units 10. Connect Ohm - 9980 (Cell Remix) 11. Max Million - Skying 12. Zinovia - Northern Wind For those of us that don't worship at the altar of Ultimae this compilation appears to be nothing special. Typical cover art presentation with a nice photo. At first glance there are only a few recognizable names (for me anyway) and I was filing this under just the next album in the release train. You would think I'd know better by now. True the artists aren't the household names we've become accustomed to, but treat that as a negative at your own peril. This compilation does what Ultimae does. Soft, gentle downtempo with somber melodies and glitchy grooves. After the opening track (didn't like it, went nowhere) we're treated to relaxing grey day music. Delicate is just that; wispy tones as rain streams down the window. Within is open mouth discovery as I journey through a hidden ice cave. The strings give it a very cold feeling as percussive sounds ping off the walls. Opal is the exit from that cave bringing a vast frozen vista into view. Kinematics is a lush march that takes its time as does Der Blaue Engel, but the latter has more melodies and glitch. Shortest here, but more memorable. The rain falls during Moments and Deeper Direction picks up the tempo. Unlit by the guy I'm actually familiar with is rich and melancholy with some haunting piano. The Cell remix didn't do anything for me and I found it a tad boring. Skying has a full and hopeful sound and Northern Wind closes it out with some nice ambient piano. Ready for me to trot out the often used maxim? While none of the tracks themselves are stellar can't do without, the flow itself is the star. Very relaxing all the way through with rich sounds echoing the hallmark of Ultimae artists. It's not my favorite Ultimae release by far, but it's soothing, quality chill. If you buy the Flac version from Ultimae I think you get the continuous mix. Ultimae Psyshop
  7. "It's time to groove electronically!' It is, it is, but this is not the vehicle. The cover screams tension (as does the title of the compilation) with predator eating predator and you would expect some hard hitting night time music. I mean come on, it's compiled by psycho Swede Wizack Twizack and he's got more than a few screws loose. Joke's on you Jack. This is some quirky and febrile sh*t. The first half of this compilation focuses on the experimental side of psy with little power and maximum of eye rolling. It's not until you get to Tommy's track that you begin to detect some balls. Which Tryambaka promptly kicks you in with a plate full of weakness. Can't figure that guy out. Wizack recovers with a sonic hallucination and the Cortex title track has some appeal uet it's still far from their best work. And because you purchased the CD and sat through this whirlwind of terrible you are rewarded with a free download. Can I decline it? I see this is available at Discogs for just under 14 bucks. Tell you what...send me the money and I'll laugh at you for wasting your money. Same thing. Tommy doesn't make very many missteps, but this one has two left feet. Cheaper here than on Discogs...even they know.
  8. "Change is upon us!" Yes it truly is. If this numnuts actually becomes president then like an infant the world will have sh*t itself and will need a change. And a bleaching. That's like one of those industrial hazmat Taco Bell/Arby's face melter sh*ts. Haven't heard much lately from Sita records (Only one compilation in 2015), but what they have released has been pleasing to my ears. The Protozoa series attempts to straddle the line between the mystical sound of goa and the craziness and oftentimes cheesy excesses of nitzhonot. And I must say they do it well. Goalien is arguably the master of this subset and absolutely blows the doors off with a high tempo explosion of a track. A tone setter surely that is wondrous no matter which side of the fence you sit. JBC Arkadii leans toward nitzho with frenetic scales rising and falling, but avoids stepping into a massive block of cheddar. Midi Rico got one foot caught in it yet still avoided getting dragged down. And that's the story here. It's a great mix of the two styles without getting dominated by either. You're left with powerful melodic tracks that are well produced. This is how it's done. Aside from the Goalien bookmarks Digital Dew and Landscapes From Heaven standout for me, but the whole compilation is a success in my eyes. Way to go Sita! Psyshop
  9. Artist: Various Title: Orientation Vol. 1 Label: Dacru Records Date: June, 2006 1. Chromosome - Solstice Deluxe 2. Farbo - Tranceforming Pi 3. Ephedrix - Add Guitars To X 4. Alternative Control Vs. Bishop - Anaxadora 5. Digicult - In The River 6. Freakulizer - Radioshow 7. Barak - Love and Distance 8. Chemical Drive - Last Galaxy 9. Ephedrix - Fade To Grey (Ephedrix Remix) 10. Digicult - The Zen Mind "I want to stay on track. I want to accelerate my personal growth in the right direction." Well that's noble and I don't want to tell you your business, but...you're doing it wrong. After many years listening to this music and having written hundreds of reviews could I have finally stumbled upon sh*tty psytrance patient 0? The jumping off point that infected psytrance worldwide and made full-on a four letter word? Of course not. This was made in 2006 and the mountain of sh*t was Everest level by then. But my God this is like discovering a fully preserved T-rex. Only it's not actually a T-rex at all, just a giant glob of his sh*t. This is truly unlistenable music saddled with cliche' after cliche' that will have you reaching for the aspirin bottle. And they made six of these? If you go ahead and order this be prepared to be disgusted
  10. Artist: Han Solo Title: Hyper Reality Label: AP Records Date: October, 2008 1. Numbers 2. Delysid 3. Mutants 4. Hyper Reality 5. Lamat - Fenix (Han Solo Remix) 6. Infrasound 7. Smoke It 8. Wild Humans "One of the things you learn after years of dealing with drug people...is that you can turn your back on a person. But never...turn your back on a drug." What about a person on drugs? I ain't turnin' my back on this guy either. Hey wait a minute! I know this guy. Man he hasn't aged a day! He actually looks younger! Weird Science...classic 80s movie. In the spirit of the sh*t sandwich that was the new Star Wars movie I decided to tackle the album from a much younger and more Mexican Han Solo. I mean did you see Harrison Ford limping about on the set? I think they CGI'ed his walker out of the shot. Anyway this is Jose Mauricio Fernandez Galvez whose parents were apparently afraid all the good names would be taken so they loaded him up. Well all his names created a pretty good full-on album. Now I know it hasn't been cool to like full-on since 2002 and I've even piled on like the rest of you. And let's face it the genre has deserved it. But with this album there's a lot of development. Whether that translates into the "good" type of full-on I'll leave up to you, but I sure enjoyed it. It's not just straight ahead stuff (other than the machine gun bass line), but the kind of up-tempo cheese that is light hearted. There are samples in every track (many of them drug related) and if you're on the hunt for some darkness, turn away. This sh*t burns vampires. But it's supposed to, and it fulfills its mission of good time music. Layers abound and the whole production is very shiny. I will say that listening to this all the way through was exhausting. But I suppose if you ate like a fat f*ck over the holidays you need to have this on repeat. If that wasn't enough to satisfy your guilty pleasure you filthy animal, it asks the important questions. "Are there a lot of Dutch people in Amsterdam?" I dunno dude. I dunno. Beatspace Psyshop
  11. Yeah I've been stuck on this one for awhile. I've listened to it over and over again on headphones and blaring out of my speakers. Just haven't been able to get the review out. For me Sasa is one of the best psytrance artists around, making acidic and truly psychedelic music. His last psytrance album Dreamtime was a blast from start to finish and so when he sent me the files for his latest album I was really looking forward to it. Now since its release I have spoken with him and learned a bit about this album and how it came to be. This album was made over two years and according to Sasa during the worst time of his life. The cover I think truly depicts where his state of mind was (pure guesswork, it's not like I psychoanalyzed him). Well, like all good artists he has taken turmoil and turned it into great art. First off, great review Antic. That's about as in depth as it goes. Psilocybian is a very prolific artist and most of what he has shared with us is truly fantastic. I believe he has picked up the torch that was dropped by Braincell and just f*cking run with it. And as Antic mentioned the very first track is a collaboration with Mr. Cell. Of course I find it one of the weakest on the album, but it is there nonetheless. And it's not even a bad track I just treat it as an entry point into the album proper. This album is a tale of tenths (he says riding Antic's coattails) and 8of the ten are certainly more dark than the rest. As I explained to Sasa. sometimes when an album doesn't grab me right away I listen to it in reverse, last track first, just to get a lay of the land. Once the tunes are familiar I find it easier to digest and appreciate. And that's what happened here. This album is not as brilliant as Dreamtime. Well, not all of it and definitely not the first few times I gave it a spin. But after playing over and over, it hit me like a train. Most of it is what you've come to expect. Acid lines, thumping beats and evolving melodies with Flitzed Out bening my favorite. It's electric and the last track is a downtempo/psychedelic hybrid that immerses one in a post apocalyptic atmosphere. A few tracks (as Antic mentioned, I mean why the f*ck am I typing?)...not so much. I Can Feel My Brain Godhead (nasty bit of 303 business) and Oddwood feels like is should've been in the darker portion of the album as they are lush, bubbly psychedelia. None of it is bad nor even close to mediocre. That's how good this guy is, even when he's off his game he still delivers. In my opinion most of this album is great and well worth a purchase. Funny, I was recently chatting with him and my physical copy arrived at that very moment. It's a very good addendum to his previous album and I'm happy to have it in my collection. Psyshop Beatspace
  12. Artist: E-Mantra Title: The Hermit's Sanctuary Label: Altar Records Date: April. 2013 1. Between Two Worlds - The Boatman 2. The Hermit's Sanctuary Part I - "Meditate" 3. The Hermit's Sanctuary Part II - "Sleep" 4. The Hermit's Sanctuary Part III - "Requiem" 5. Howls From The Deep 6. Daydream 7. Pheremone 8. Harmonic Waves (Re-edit) 9. Nocturne 10. Lonely Sorrow "I think we should see other people." Sounded like a good idea at the time didn't it Bugs? Now you can't sleep, tossing and turning, imagining your girl gettin' twisted up like a pretzel by Daffy. You know what they say, once you go black... 4 hours. I think I'm surviving on 4 hours a night. That can't be healthy. The only positive is that I get to listen to some great music when everyone is asleep. Totally quiet, I just pop the headphones on and instantly I'm immersed in the world of whoever. This night it happened to be the Romanian master Emmanuel Carpus. Having already conquered the land of goa this was his 3rd release in the downtempo arena. And boy has he progressed. The opening track is so f*cking epic that like the rest of you I eagerly await an album of dark acidic ambient. The atmosphere is so thick that you cannot help but become swallowed by it. The next three tracks (trilogy!) are comprised of soft, gentle sounds soaked in reverb escorting me slowly to dreamland. It's a happy place, where I can eat all the pizza I want and never get fat. A place where I can buy a copy of Technossomy's Synthetic Flesh, BPC's Blue Planet, and MWNM's Teleportation for just a dollar. Madness! He gets back to the delicious dark beatless ambient with Howls From The Deep and it's so overpowering I feel I might need to turn a light on. Daydream, Phereomone, and Nocturne are slow churns and like a lot of his slower stuff he brings goa melodies to almost a crawl. The effects enhance the tracks as the melodies drift into each other. Harmonic Waves also slows things down, but with a little breakbeat to keep things fresh. Lonely Sorrow closes things out with more atmospheric beatless ambient. Not as dark as the other ones, but it certainly isn't light either. This album is what you expect it to be. Slow, dreamy music with floating melodies and more than enough atmosphere. His production has always been top notch and it's nice to see him stretching its wings. Highly recommended.
  13. Yes me too. It takes time to digest the music when examples are given, and of course life gets in the way so I don't get too upset. Let's see... Tonikom...the track above is a dnb glitchy bit of techno not bad at all. They're kind of all over the place with breakbeat, downtempo, glitch...you name it. Really getting into her Found & Lost Album. I checked tracks from her last 4 albums and her beats are sick. Can see why Cybernetika would like this. That Geomatic track hits a sweet spot and is EXACTLY what I'm searching for. Dark, atmospheric and layered stuff. Ear crack surely. The Mind.In.A.Box. example was a little on the cheesy side and very synthpop. There new album has a lot of autotune and resembles Daft Punk. Still, there is something that pulls at me even if all their tracks sound the same. Haujobb does sound like a clone of FLA and I think that will take a lot of further exploration. I'll try some more and post about it later. Thanks all for the suggestions! I love exploring new music!
  14. B-55. Universe. Boom. The world needs so much more of this madness. So much.
  15. Artist: Various Title: Psychedelique Transition Andromede Label: Trans'pact Productions Date: 1996 1. Martin Cooper - Hallu Practical 2. Phushmataha - Bloomer 3. Asia 2001 - Mara-Djha 4. Ursula Azym - Asiane Tribulations 5. Asia 2001 - Fantasm 6. Asia 2001 - Mara-Djha (Remix) 7. Martin Cooper - Polivoks 8. Martin Cooper - Life Storm 9. Guarana Cupana - Shankra I believe we are all in agreement that the cover is an insult to cover art? Even MS Paint should feel a little slighted. Ok now that that is out of the way we can get on to the much more important subject of the music contained therein. First off as you probably already know this is Gilber Thenevet and his various pseudonyms for the most part. Released in 1996 the sound is unmistakably goa trance with 1996 production. It lacks the oomph that can be found in other releases from the golden goa era. Another thing the tracks are rather thin and linear. Not many twists and turns to be followed and sounds like they were just going through the motions. The remix of Mara Dhja is nice and more to my liking, but that's about it. Not terrible, but I don't have time for not terrible. Or put it another way, this is third string stuff.
  16. Artist: Pineal Title: Cauda Pavonis Label: Blue Hour Sounds Date: December, 2012 1. Squaring the Circle 2. Cauda Pavonis 3. Pantalika 4. Stregatto 5. Nostoc 6. Zeta Landscape 7. Prime Numbers 8. Gravity Waves 9. Yonisphere 10. Induction 11. Moonbase Alpha This reminds me a lot of the Kaaya Project sound with its tablas and worldly vibe. You'll hear dubby basses melded with guitar painting a dreamy naturescape. Pineal is Domenico Canzoniero from *spoiler alert* Italy and his debut is a combination of real world instruments as well as some dissonant sounds which give the tracks an irregular feel. Certainly is interesting. Sometimes it plods slowly along (Stregatto) or it gets a little busy (Zeta Landscape). The whole thing is a little odd and can be difficult to fully embrace. There isn't an absence of melodies as much as there is a collection of sounds. Soundwise it's great and crystal clear thanks to your boy Aes Dana who did the mastering. Not for me, but if you're in the mood for something different give it a go! Psyshop
  17. Artist: Various Title: The Ancient Secret of the Flower of Life Label: Sangoma Records Date: November, 2013 1. Entropy - Hamakor 2. Parus - Vremia 3. Antagon Vs. Ectogasmics - Degradation 4. Sunchild - Think In Tongues 5. Dragon - Flower of Life 6. Mubali - Entering the Neuron Community 7. Fractal Cowboys - Fluid of Life 8. Arjuna Vs. Deepbrianfrombosis - Fractacality 9. Primordial - Time Lord 10. We Are Noise - Acid Milk For All 11. Neesha - Great Ride "There are certain things we can do to become super human." The sexy lady tree will tell you the secret is all in the hips. Anyone else think this gif is a little...sinister? Sangoma is like the foresty darkpsy little brother of the older and well established Timecode Records. I absolutely loved almost everything that Timecode released so I'm hoping that Sangoma will continue the tradition. My first experience with them however was with Gaspard's ode to naptime Seems Legit. It wasn't legit. So not legit that I quit. Hammer shoutout! But hey that's why pencils have erasers right? This compilation is my second go round with Sangoma and I have to tell you...bring a f*cking flashlight. This is dark. Seriously so. Thumping bass lines and kicks rumble menacingly below swampy bubbling. If you're a fan of the Timecode sound this may take some getting used to. While the night time psy from Timecode was also dark there were always melodies that would carry you above the fray. This sound is more psychedelic forest and aggressive. Perhaps it's the logical evolution of darkpsy. It's a hallucinatory journey where sounds are stacked like dead bodies and the mood is decidedly...evil. Metallic leads sound like the dragging of relics across concrete. It's loud and a lush cacophony of sound that requires multiple listens to truly appreciate. Some tracks are horror movie ready and most are a twisting concourse into the mouth of madness. Heavy stuff if you decide to listen in one go. I'm not sure where I stand yet, but I certainly cannot stop listening to it. Sangoma Bandcamp Psyshop Beatspace
  18. "It can only be attributed to human error." No, no...leave him be. If you know a better way to workout those elbows I'm all ears. Now this is something different. Hard, abrasive, rhythmic techno that flirts with trance. Teases it. Like a hot chick that knows she's hot. Metallic and alien sounding it's just what the doctor ordered when you need to get away from the bright sunshine. This is a rusty machine that grinds up cheese with the harsh sounds of metal scraping concrete. The squirmy 303 in Kein Traum reminds you that goa ain't dead yet. Whipbird is a psychedelic goa car crash that left me wanting more. I like what was posted earlier in the thread when someone rated it 1/10 - 9/10. If you get your mind right and are in the mood for it this is nice.
  19. Artist: Prosper Title: The Speed of Sound Label: Joof Recordings Date: October, 2007 1. Atlantis 2. Falls & Rises 3. Future Perfect 4. Nights of Belgra 5. None of Those 6. On The Run 7. On Wheels 8. Purple Fish 9. Untitled Dreams 10. Zero Tolerance Merry Christmas b*tches. Man I wanted to dump all over this thing. So badly. Jokes were coming to me while I wasn't even thinking about music. But I couldn't. Well...maybe a little. First off this is the third album from Serbian Nikola Vujnovic and it is a digital release. How to describe...a mix of progressive and psy with a little euphoria sprinkled over the top like the sweet confection it is. Think of full-on crack. There is nothing psychedelic about this. You'll find more psychedelia in a Teletubbies episode. It's commercial sounding and cheesy at times. When f*cknut said he was going for the music I almost lost it. Of course you are dinkus, we all are. We just don't feel the need to say it. You're play by play was wholly unnecessary. That said you will find some ass wiggling tracks here. It's fairly strong on groove. Also some of the tracks began as simple full-on yet continued to develop. This is music that you listen to at the club when you're smashed out of your gourd and think it's the most awesome music that you have ever heard. Loud and shiny you never want the night to end. But then comes the hangover and you can't believe you did that last night. Beatport
  20. "Tell me your fantasies. Tell me your secrets. Tell me your deepest. Darkest. Fears." "Ugh, gee ma'am, that's a little...I mean, isn't that a bit personal? I just wanted to know where there toilet is." Noise Unit was a project between Marc Verhaeghen of Klinik and Bill Leeb from Frontline Assembly. When Marc left for whatever reason (my daughter suggested unicorn hunting) Rhys Fulber stepped in and it became a FLA side project. This album however brings everyone in including Haujobb which to me sounds too much like hand job and now I'm all hot ans sweaty. "Honey? Babe, will you help me do some uh...research?" This is very dark industrial music without the screamy vocals. And it's more dance oriented as well. Sometimes it flirts with goa and guitar riffs resembling the FLA classic albums Flavour of the Weak and Millennium. It's futuristically post apocalyptic and sometimes downright funky! If you're a fan of FLA or industrial tech-trance then lace up the Doc Martens and step to this. Awesome stuff here.
  21. Artist: Opale Title: Anaconda's Dance Label: DAT Records Date: December, 2015 1. Anaconda's Dance 2. Kundun 3. Twister Sound 303 4. Hackers Is it possible to love a label more than DAT Records right now? Like the rest of you it was Christmas, Han...Chanu...Kwanzaa all rolled into one when my brand new copies of the Pleiadians arrived. It's been a long time coming, but the piece de resistance was finally realized. The biggest question I had was how is DAT going to top this? IFO is arguably one of the greatest goa trance albums of all time and the 3 CD version from DAT? Well I don't mind telling you that I may be a little bit gay for Draeke right about now. Now I ordered the two EP's that were ready at the same time because there was no extra shipping and I also wanted to support a label that has given so much. Didn't really know who they were or give much thought to it. Like Tom up there I think I'm in love. Opale is Greg Bailay from France and was apparently a music producer in the mid 90's. This music was made in the early days of goa trance, but you would never know from the sound quality. According to Draeke the mastering was so good they just left it as is. Remarkable. And the music...twisting melodies and leads scream through filtered strangulation. Anaconda's Dance opens things up with shimmering melodies and cochlear popping leads. Kundun builds the tension until the last moment while the 303 gasps for air. Twister Sound 303 has the full throated madness that sounds like Daimon's Codex from Suntrip's Temple of Chaos, but with more layers. There's a weird part near the end when it sounds like a new track sprung out of the mix. Don't mind it, but it's really noticeable. The last track Hackers is another rapid whirlwind of melodies full of fury. It's a great EP from an unknown artist from back in the day. Perfect for those who love their goa trance to be of the storming variety. I hope he is still producing goa trance so that we might see a full album one day. So...don't worry about your Pleiadians hangover. Your boy Draeke has the remedy. DAT Records Psyshop Beatspace
  22. Two trips rookie. There's no shame in two trips. Yeah this sh*t is weak. It really hasn't gotten better with time, actually the polar opposite. I gave it 5 years and all that grew was my disdain for this album. This is your mom's VHS sex tape in the era of streaming media. Tell her to Go Pro next time she wants what the mailman will deliver. A cathode ray television in a world full of flat screens. You get the idea. I thought that some new and awesome headphones from an awesome benefactor would help. And they did. They helped me realize how much weak sauce this is. And that it no longer requires any trips.
  23. Artist: Human Error Title: The DNA is DOA Label: CRL Studios Date: April, 2012 1. Population 0 2. The DNA is DOA 3. Overrun 4. Inevitable 5. Hopeless Utopia (c0ma Remix) 6. Satcom 410-NE (Tokee Remix) 7. Hopeless Utopia (Dyskhord Remix) 8. Satcom 410-NE (Lucidstatic Remix) 9. Finite (Pandora's Black Book Remix) "Once you actually start to look around...you start to wonder if you'd be doing society a favor by getting rid of all these people." Ok the Donald Trump hordes are getting out of control. Please know that this is a very vocal minority of people that follow this douche pickle. Imagine a not so distant future where the basic normalcy of life has been disrupted. Where democracy has ceased to exist and man has reverted to his more tribal instincts. Technology has evolved, but not all are privy to it and everywhere are faded and crumbling monoliths to our past greatness. Not prospering. Just surviving. Pretty much every post apocalyptic movie ever made. May I introduce you to its very bleak soundtrack. Human Error is Tom Box from the UK and he has created quite the atmosphere full of futuristic melancholy. He explores all areas of downtempo with breakbeats, dark ambient, and industrial glitch. It flows from still quiet to aggressive menace all while carrying its sense of dread like a scar. Worth a listen surely and it's one of those name your price digital albums. But I'll warn you the latter part leans heavily towards the industrial side of things. Human Error Bandcamp
  24. Artist: The Faithealers Title: Until The End of the World Label: Neogoa Date: November, 2015 01 - Spiritualizer (141 BPM) 02 - Welcome To My Mind (141 BPM) 03 - Bio Genetic (127 BPM) 04 - Speed Of Light (150 BPM) 05 - Let There Be God (138 BPM) 06 - Angels & Demons (146 BPM) 07 - Dark Matter (130 BPM) 08 - Until The End Of The World (65 BPM) "Wow, this really is easier than they make it sound!" Jeez lady it's not a f*cking salad. Time for an oil change so before I get out the juice and sprinkle it like vinaigrette, I gotta take my oldest to school. I'm getting my oil changed in a town about 40 minutes away. Sure I could've gotten a local grease monkey to do it, but going this route accomplished three things. One, it's a free service. Came with the car so you can't beat free. Two, the cleaning service is coming today and I didn't have time to straighten up. Doesn't that sound stupid? Why do I have to straighten up before the cleaning people come? Isn't that what they do, you know...clean? Lastly it's a chance for me to be alone and blast this 43rd release from Neogoa all the way to the dealership. The Faithealers are Markku Louhio and Kris Kylven. Yes that one. Btw, Google autocorrect wants to call him Kris My Oven. Suppose it could be worse. Now Kris has put his hands in a lot of pies most notably as UX, part of Juno Reactor, Syb Unity Nettwerk and certainly don't forget the industrial sounding EON Project. This is an anthology of unreleased tracks from 2000-2013. The first half of the album swims in the waters of tribal psytrance. Think Elysium, but more aggressive and less goa. Thunderous kicks and tight percussion rumble underneath driving sounds. The first five tracks are like a long Ayahuascan trip. I've thrown up after too much chocolate milk so I think I know what I'm talking about here. Angels and Demons evokes powerful religious imagery and Dark Matter rises to a cacophonous climax...and then drops away into silence. The final track is a short, but emotional downtempo closer brimming with black magic. The whole thing sounds great and while there aren't any spectacular tracks it is a super sensory experience. Powerful and groovy with nice ethnic touches. Recommended. Free at Ektoplazm
