heyyy, you know Quantum State! cool right, they should release another one too...

Solar Fields - Sol: It's for obvious reasons though, since I played Mirror's Edge

That's more or less what I would say too. I scored like 3 out of 17 ... I'm not a believer. I listen to the music mainly because I enjoy the sound and because I like to run to it. But I can't deny that I also like the air of mystery in some of the tracks. And I like to think about it and let my mind wander. But really believing I do only a little...

Yes, I was a huge fan of Mortiis back then aswell. Got into it as he released The Smell of Rain and there was an article in a local music magazine and I saw his appearance and got interested. From the image I thought that it was the most brutal music ever, but then I realized it actually was really damn good! The Smell of Rain is his best album IMO. The ambient he did I loved too. I got all his ambient albums he did under the name Mortiis. All of them are good, but Født til å Herske and The Stargate are my favourites... What he did later with The Grudge I didn't like a lot anymore. There's only one song on it that I really like: Way Too Wicked. And I also don't like the image he adopted. He now even ditched the mask! A pity. However, not long ago I discovered the Some Kind of Heroin remix album and I have to admit that there are some really damn good and driving remixes on it, some even done by Mortiis themselves. I'm seriosuly thinking about buying it, it's great... lol, Nocte Obducta is a german band, I understand their lyrics But german lyrics in black metal are actually terrible, to me they always come across in a kind of "I want, but I can't" pseudo-epic way ... nah... And you're right, black metal vocals are always terrible ... grunting, howling, terrible. The only band where I really like it is Finntroll, they're Trolls, they're supposed to grunt ... oh and since I'm a fan of Viking Metal, I can bear the vocals there too, because it adds to the atmosphere of battle and excitement... Although I actually like bands that have the black metal vibe, but have not so terrible vocals. Falkenbach have some good songs in this way, this one for example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dyy1NlbR7bY ... and Bathory aswell, I'm a big fan of Bathory's later albums. And I'm a huge fan of big choirs, preferrably man-choirs. Therion are my heroes when it comes to that, they've got the best symphonic arrangement. Opera metal, absolutely wonderful! That's some vocals that fit to the music.

this is great! thanks for sharing the guy's a genious. check out the other vids of him aswell ... especially the galleon and toxic ones!
-
urg ... that one really is the puke-on-the-floor kind of bad... even Becoming Insane was better ... and I didn't like that one at all either. a shame
-
yeah, cheers and thanks for the music

Progressive. I'm actually more of a proghead than a psyhead. Although it depends.

For me that's definitely S-RANGE - ANOTHER THEORY I'm waiting hands down five years for that one since the first news of it went out. The last album Space was even six years ago. There was an illegal release ... and an official single, but these two don't count for me. But despite all, Anthony's still on it and making music, I try my best to catch news here and there and ask him every now and then ... he's still producing and playing live and there are plans for some releases this year. Although there have been plans for the last years aswell, so who knows ... but I'm not abandoning hope. On the contrary. This guy's still making good music and one day or another there's definitely going to be a release Ah? Interesting news. Silion Sound was already on my list of dead artists ... good to hear he's still on it, however long it may take for another album, I'll definitely be waiting for it But there's another sorrow child of mine and that's ETNOSCOPE ... they haven't released anything in ages aswell, aside for a few compilation tracks. The last news that I caught were that the computer crashed and they gotta rebuild like half of all the tracks again ... but that news is already two years old now. A pity, for they have some great tracks in petto ... check out the sample of Twilight on their page! Rasmus now has a sideproject though, PUSHERSTREET ... with that one there's more going on. No release yet though ... hope it will come, the music is great!

I'd definitely say yes. Albeit that it's some extraordinarily GOOD dark progressive! btw, check out Prex if you like Noma

very interesting! thanks for the suggestion

A very stunning review there above ... will be hard to come close to that anyway, here's my 2 cents: first and foremost it's the other way round, the artist is called QUANTUM STATE and the album is called Subatomic Travellers. The style is rather dark, with a vibrating bassline. Not very melodic. A guitar can be heard at some point or another ... but it doesn't sound annoying. The sound comes across in a kind of dirty, non-polished way, which is actually very good for the underground atmosphere and a reason why I like this album pretty much. Another big reason is track 6, Natural Born Idiots ... that one is really a fast killer! The rest of the tracks isn't bad either (only filler I can think of is maybe the Dark Trancer ... didn't like that one at all), but none of them is as good as the 6th one IMO, not even Hippies With Credit Cards. Anyway. It's a pretty nice album that I like to listen to every once in a while ... no breathtaking masterpiece though. Still, I can recommend it

whoa, guys, respect ... I've never expected to have some of my favourite metal artists mentioned here! Summoning, yes, that's a totally great band. My favourite when it comes to epic black metal. Absolutely love them, since they're fellas from Austria aswell Dol Guldur is good, but I found Stronghold much better. Also Let Mortal Heroes Sing Your Fame. Can't speak for the last one though, I'm keeping it for a special moment ... but this song should clear out all doubts, very good one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hUhEsuwp6g8 (singing in orc language ). Minas Morgul isn't that special IMO (except for the song Lugburz). They've moved away from their black metal arrangements ... now it's trumpets, choir, marching drums and tuned down guitars. Actually brillant. You know Mortiis? POWNAGE! Congratulations, you're the first person I ever met who uttered this name not on the official band forum. What's your favourite album? Do you know all eras? The past? Sideprojects? Tell me, I wanna know! yes, Sunn O))) is awesome ... very interesting sound, practically dark ambient made with guitars ... interesting good, good... I might add: HOLLENTHON. Absolutely awesome music in the veins of a bit Summoning, but less solitude in the sound and more might and power. Hollenthon's awesome. check this out for his old stuff: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V9iYSwkICvQ check this out for his new stuff: (rough, but gets brillant in the later part) and apart from all the good and epic stuff I just gotta mention the finnish humppa metal crazyness I so love ... namely: FINNTROLL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yGywo81G6lk&feature=fvst KORPIKLAANI: TROLLFEST: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Puj0u8p5og p0wnage forever! \m/

yea, "the music in the future isn't music", we know
-
what about Göteborg? most good scando artists I know come from there... is it dead there too?
-
interesting. I was just checking samples and I'm sorry to admit, this doesn't blow me off the chair. It's far from bad, the sound quality is actually perfect, but ... it lacks something. I'm saying that because I own Memory Shell and that one was significantly better. I mean, what rights do I have to judge an album from samples, I know ... but still...

Isn't it the same with rock music? There's progressive rock, psychedelic rock, punk rock,... and "just" rock aswell.

I now officailly state that I prefer smaller indoor parties to outdoor festivals. I always said that, but now I finally can back it up with an experience -- the experience of my first outdoor psytrance (and other electronic music) festival! I went there because Kraftwerk played live (in case if you wonder at what "psy+other music" festival a band as big as Kraftwerk is playing: it was the UAF festival 2009) ... otherwise I'd probably never had gone there. Well, the weather was crappy, real crappy to be honest, but I'm not taking the weather for the reason I didn't like it, that would be naive ... besides the stages were protected from rain. Psytrance stage was inside a circus tent for example. So the weather was not the reason ... also the lineup wasn't crappy, besides Kraftwerk I got to see Penta, Rinkadink and Astrix. So what was it then? I guess I'm just not made for festivals. At four in the morning I got so fed up of all the music, the people, the dancing and all of it that I chose to walk out of there through the dark to a train station in the middle of nowhere where at 05:09 AM a bus would take me home. Seriously, I did it, I was so fed up. The organisation was horrible, the prices too high, the weather too cold to sleep in a tent ... shove it (I mean, I wasnt enraged or anything, in fact I feft with a zen-like smile and with the certainity that I am certainly not amde for this)! I don't wanna go into detail actually. I even missed S-Range, my most beloved psytrance artist (and the second reason why I decided to go, the first was Kraftwerk) ... and people who know me know that this means a freakin' lot! So that's how it was. Kraftwerk were worth the hassle and all. And fortunately there were very nice people whom I had nice talks with and such ... otherwise I'd have become completely grumpy, which would have been the worst it could get. Still, I'll probably never do that again. Next time such a big festival's around, I'll come by car, go see the headliner or the act I wanna see completely sober and then drive home. Better off with that. See and that's why I prefer it inddor, in some club in the city. I can come and go when I please, don't need to stay when I don't want, that's how it has to be. And the wonderful underground atmosphere ... dimly lit cellars with bad air and foggy view because of all the smoke, the acoustics so wonderfully cramped ... far better than a big outdoor space with lots of people. Seriously.

well, I care I'm a fan of lists, classifications and all that though, so I can understand if others don't share my views...

this is GENIOUS! thanks for this wonderful fresh experience as for the future ... I imagine big audiovisual installation things, tents with 360° projection and such. VJs and DJs working together more and more, as it's already the case sometimes. has not very much to do with the sound itself though. that's probably because we've been through a fair lot already ... there is not that much left that you still can evolve into. I believe the future eras will rather be revivals of the old, with some bit of things a little varyin' here and there...

Nice topic ... I remember some years ago I made a hobby out of searching images for tracks (lost them all though ... new computer, you know ) I remember for S-Range - Larger Plan I had one like this:
-
Hey, I never thought about how awesome the music of Da Hool actually is! I have been kinda liking it in the past, in my trance years ... but as psy came along I lost it out of my perception. Now I rediscovered it ... and boy, this is great. The music is good in a creative way and the videos are hilarious! Watch this for example (Wankers on Duty): ... the music is so awesome I can even find traces of the Fluke sound in it. Brillant. And the Mama Sweet song ( ) ... totally different to the previous one, yet just as high ranking in terms of geniality; the synth sound and the voice in this one is extremely addictive! And then there's Eichelrück, a hilarious song (because of the title) with a genious video aswell! Also Bora Bora, cool song aswell. Absolutely genious. Yet there is one thing. The gigantically awful counterweight that this guy did with Meet Her at the Loveparade ... that one is so utterly horrible that I lack of words Still, the other songs are breathtakingly great ... creative, twisted, perfect. Is there more like this? Creative electronics stuff, with a positive edge to it? Anything?

I'd say both! When the atmosphere's good, a party can be totally awesome! Wonderfully loud sound, a live set you'll never hear again that way, some good alcohol and some nice people, hey, what do you want more? I can't have that all at home, no way! I've already had some great experiences on the dancefloors out there ... and also on the ambient floors ... and they would never have been possible at home that way in that intensity. Parties, however, can be sucky (or "not that special", that's already bad enough) too. They depend on many things - luck, money, good sound, good people, good timing, good happenings, my own wellbeing (can't enjoy it when I'm ill) and more. Plus every time you have a great experience, you tend to chase it next time, so you become used to it over time and thus the joy curve is flattening. That's why a lot of parties actually are not great (or "not that great anymore"). But once you manage that everything's perfect, which still happens every once in a while, then it's wonderful bliss At home I'm independent of all those fragile factors that make a party great - I choose the time, I choose the music, I choose everything. That makes it a lot easier to have a good experience. And well, because it's so easy, I like that aswell. But it can't beat the greatness of a really perfect night out - I'm thinking of a night of that "first Finntroll humppa metal madness, then Solar Fields divine chill time"-nights, you can never beat that by staying at home, never! so actually, although I'd say both, morale commands me to vote for the dancefloor monkey, but alas, me stupid have already voted for "both", so yeah, forget it...

yes, I heard of The Drone Project... and it sounds not bad, even though I miss the acid parts CBL were so famous for... it seems their music is slowly becoming one of the depressive drone ambient kind IMO ... and I wouldn't embrace that, CBL used to have a warmer sound... ...but that strange instrument in the third video is cool they could mean sideprojects aswell ... but anyway...
-
aye, congratulations indeed
