  1. Gonna have to check out this movie, and hey, who doesn't love tenticles!
  2. The mist is more horror really. Predator doesn't really count either. Alien I think yes but predator no. I haven't seen blade runner btw. Wiki thinks the time travellers wife is sci fi, that was a great film but I don't think it's sci fi at all really. Have seen solaris a while ago and remember it was good but not quite how good, so can't really put it on there although it was probably around about the abyss. 1. The matrix 2. Dune 3. The animatrix (not on list) 4. Appleseed ex machina (not on list) 5. Twelve monkeys 6. Moon (not on list!) 7. 2001 8. Alien 9. Pitch black (not on list) 10. A clockwork orange (not on list) 11. The chronicles of riddick (not on list) 12. District 9 (not on list) 13. Brazil 14. Independence Day (at the very least for the many tracks that have sampled it!) (not on list) 15. Serenity (not on list) 16. Red planet (not on list) 17. Starship troopers (not on list) 18. The abyss 19. Metropolis Somewhere down but definitely worth seeing Virtuosity, definitely deserves a mention though, Flash Gordon The fifth element Avatar is down here I guess
  3. Well a lot of sci fi is another genre that just happens to have aliens in it. Whether it's sci fi horror, sci abstract, sci action or sci that would basically be high fantasy if it had elves.
  4. I'm really likeing this, this is like full on, but with darker sortof effects and moods (although more sortof subtle dark, old goa style mood not horror or anything). Although not really dark full on, as it isn't pseudo horror style mood with super dancey bass like azax or something. This album just generally is really impressing me. The tracks are all pretty great with some standout ones. Lots of great effects, haven't noticed the supposed lack of melodies, it's fairly acessable. This is what full on should be. I'll write a full review later.
  5. Silent hill? Resident evil? Wing commander I liked
  6. Gaahl is just a classic character, you guys should watch other interviews with him. and black metal does better black metal covers than darkpsy seems to. I don't mind the sortof hybrid stuff though, or one's that's actually done well. There's a few covers in this thread that look like cheesy horror though. Xenomorph qlippoth is a good black metal style cover though.
  7. I think pink floyd does a much better job at introducing you to the dark side of the moon.
  8. Well is it too acid trancey or is it too euro trancey? Haven't listened, have downloaded it and will soon though since it seems nice from the clips. I mean it's certainly not too psy trancey.
  9. Well I've only heard sheet one and closer. No one's mentioned closer so far, that album is amazing, probably going in my top 10 albums. It's like going crazy at 4am. Very psychedelic, but in a more very strong atmospheric way. Sortof reminds me of fight club actually. The version of spastik on sheet one seems to be far superior than the one on youtube (from the second album presumably?). While you can certainly criticise some minimal, can't criticise closer, it's just so intelligent and the sounds so thought out. It's not like deadmau5 or something.
  10. It's music about vampires that aren't allowed to have sex (except in teh butt) before marriage.
  11. I'm just happy i didn't see any brokencyde albums there when I looked.
  12. That actually exists? Juice is an awesome track too btw. His newer full on album is actually fairly good, not as good as old but good for full on.
  13. Well and there's also the kind've music you want to make. The feeling you get from a track isn't just it's general atmosphere and mood, it's also to do with structure as well. Sad trance is very different from sad minimal techno. There are some feelings you can't do if your music isn't maximal enough and there are some you can't do if it's not minimal enough. So I guess it has to do with what the producer is aiming for. Anyway, as I said, maybe they just wanted something different, or maybe it's just easier to get their point accross (as opposed to just plain old easier to produce).
  14. Exactly It's not euro trance It's not early acid trance It's too early to be psytrance Therefore it's fairly obvious it's goa trance. There are lots of hardstyle producers that call their music techno but that doesn't make it such, it's the genre they primarily listen to mostly.
  15. This is actually all pretty true. A decent post by bwhale, wow. Yes, to an extent, but at the same time, there are some genres that are harder to produce, but take less time, or are easier to produce but take more time. Basically: Quality: has some correlation with time spent Quality: has no correleation with minimalness/maximalsness Length of track: Definitely has a strong correlation with quality though. People add to the second half of the track, but to do so continually refine the first half so it ends up with things generally being better. Over 10 minutes tends to be excessive though. Maximalness: Has a medium correlation with time spent(i.e. if something is more maximal it will generally take longer) So I disagree, there are definitely some genres that are harder to produce then others. With the example of minimal, well exactly, that's something that is harder to produce! With fewer elements each one has to count. Rather then just throwing quite a few meh sortof melodies at you and it not being boring, but not interesting either. People have said goa takes a long time to produce just because of the number of melodies in it. Maybe the musicians got burnt out and wanted to do something more minimal? Where they can get a finished feeling and the feeling across in half or a quarter of the time. You have to balance Minimalness: Saying as much as possible with as little as possible Maximalness: Adding as much as possible while still having each part contribute and maintaining general cohesiveness. Anyway: suffice to say, there are some genres(or subgenres) that are easier to produce than others most definitely. However, definitely can't look just at how much stuff is going on in the track. A more detailed analysis for why a genre is easy/hard to produce is necassary.
  16. Hmm so many people like that atropos album but there isn't a review up for it yet. Tangerine dream/Vangelis for ambient, although that is a bit obvious.
  17. Yeh, but at the same time, some emotions I prefer to others.
  18. Yeh +1 to the random redirects to the invite friends page.
  19. Also what's with people uploading the black eyed peas? I mean the beatles or tangerine dream or acid trance or techno or ambient is fair enough non psy stuff, but some pop music? Is this fine or are you going to make some rules about it? Perhaps a non psy music category would be good as well.
  20. And what bad will you do? Or what good will you not do?
  21. "Psy-Trance innovators Infected Mushroom" Yeh, maybe ages ago.
