  1. First of all, happy holidays guys, i hope you are all doing well. šŸ˜Ž Congrats to all new parents šŸ’ŖšŸ’œ I've been busy with real life (hardcore mode) for last 2 years and even we managed to put out The Purge by Lunar Dawn this year, honestly I've lost the drive for Goa music in general (yeah, The Purge isn't a Goa album), around pre-Covid pandemics. Recently, when it comes to psytrance, I'm more into full-on/Israeli stuff. Heck, I did a DJ set first time since 2011 this December in local club. And it was fun. šŸ˜‹ My old Facebook profile (with shitload of contacts around the globe) is passe for some time now, so I'm thinking about getting rid of this incognito one too. I'm getting old, and it's not like it was back in the heydays of early goa-groups and pages. Besides that, i'm enjoying some weird trap music too, extreme metal as usual and spending my time on NBA fantasy apps. Funny thing, this might be the first post ever on Psynews that I posted from mobile phone. Weird times. Overall, still checking Psynews when I can, not the music that much, but always happy to see some old-farts around here. Take care guys šŸ¤˜šŸ’œ

  2. Artist: Centavra Project Title: Antigravity Label: Globel Sect Date: July 1, 2022 Tracklist: 1. Antigravity 2. Strange Objects Part 2 3. Dark Abyss 4. Alien Presence 5. Pulsar 6. Back In Space 7. Long Way 8. Starry Sky of Sakhalin 9. Interstellar I love Russians. Is that ok to say? Let me be more specific, I love Russian people.... mmmm, I love Russian men? There we go, getting closer, I love Russian men who make trance Not specific enough? I love Russian men who make Goa Trance. There. We got there. Itā€™s Goa Trance baby and Centavra Project and Global Sect are here to deliver it to us. Centavra is the man of the hour. Itā€™s Dmitry Gutsu, a Russian gentleman who has been creating Beautiful tunes since at least 2007. And he didnā€™t just wake up one day and say Iā€™m gonna start making Goa Trance. No no no, he must have listened to it for years before that and been in love with it for just as long. Before this release it was kind of up in the air what the future of this label would be as it was going through all of the bullshit of the war situation that humans are and have always been responsible for. Just people, making bad decisions. Itā€™ll never end. And thankfully Global Sect decided that their mission for this music shouldn't end either. So they found a way to release more if it. Well done space-fuckers and let me just say that is was a good choice to put precedence on Goa Trance rather than the never ending turmoil of our species. Because letā€™s be honest. Goa is the best thing this bunch of self-assured incompetent primates have ever created A style thatā€™s hard to beat, a style that draws you deeper into itā€™s soundscapes as you search for every bit of the track, and as it sucks you in you start to lose yourself as your enthralled by the gases of the nebulae of this style Music of the past few years has become louder, more bombastic and has a certain edge to it that has felt like it has tried to assert itself into the universe. Iā€™ve enjoyed every second of it. But itā€™s been a while since we got to delve deep into the deepness of the lulling attractiveness of deep cosmic Goa Trance. Oooooh Iā€™ve missed this kind of music. The album is deep in every sense of the word and devoid of a single negative emotion. No aggression, no pain, no judgement, no message other than the glory of the cosmos and every wonder of this universe that we get to experience for a painstakingly short period of time. Sure we could figure it all out as species and find a way to prolong our existence, but not this current iteration of us. This iteration is fucked and has absolutely nothing figured out. But donā€™t fear, because there are people like Dmitry out there, people who kind of have figured things out. People who understand whatā€™s important in this world. This music right here, the right to enjoy our lives. Which is exactly what he was doing during Alien Presence until the dreaded key change fucked me up (You people and your key changes). But even that didnā€™t stop me from basking in the glory of this trackā€¦..Well until the next key change that hit even harder. (What the fuck is going in with that)? At first it was 2 too many, but as I've listened to this track over the months it has become one of my favourite tracks. I mean itā€™s unbelievable. The relentless golden shocks and groove and rhythm that pound down on you making the thought of doing anything other than moving your self around is amazing. The second half is psychedelically psychotic and considerably astronautic. And the more I listen, the less I care about the abrupt shift in direction brought on by key changes and the more I find myself wrapped up in it. It's close to a favourite. Oh yea, we in the review now. The track before it Dark Abyss gave us an equivalent explosion of gentle hydrogen gases of the universe and it did it with less but less is more, so he really did it with more. More boldness and danger, some extroversion, and a little bit of confidence. What a well rounded character to find in a song. And the opening track, yes, lets go to the opening track: Antigravity We float we soar, we fly and we charge into the stars and the nebulas and the moons and the weird planets along with unidentified life of every sort. It has that patient Global Sect deepness to it that doesn't come out roaring or flip a switch into a nightmare of explosions. It is soft, thoughtful, gentle and smooth. It's a precursor to the rest of the album (Spoilers alert) with it's satisfying build of euphoria, sparkling final break and illustrious sounds. Speaking of unidentified objects, lets talk about the second track Strange Objects Part 2.............. If you insist Centavra Project ends each segment of the track with it leading into a distant explosion which births something new and more intense than the last. Each melody is euphoric, each act is gripping, impossible to look away from and each moment is full of the beautiful sparkling bubbles of space. The drive is harder and more pounding than the opening track with a bit more intensity brought into the mids with layering and all of the symbol clashes up above. Still each sound is smooth and silky and easy to fall back into. We've been through track 3 and 4 (Alien Presence & Dark Abyss) so let's just move along to Pulsar. Pulsar was one of the early release tracks. I tried not to listen to it to much leading up to the full release, but naturally, just like the human desire to create boring problems, I couldnā€™t help myself. None of those listens changed a thing, this was a cool track then and it a cool track now. He has created a whole bunch of sounds and used them strategically to spearhead themselves into drops and melodies and new acts of progression in the storyline. This song is built exactly like some of the best tracks of this genre in the way that it already had everything it needed to be a great track, but then goes ahead an adds another layer of power over it all along with a stellar final act to drive it home. Honestly when I hear a track like this I wish for more of them, but let's be real, a full album of this would be overwhelming and take away from the greatness of this track. If every track was Ć¼ber-charged then no tracks would be Ć¼ber-charged right? It's a favourite from the album and quite possibly the year of 2023. Iā€™m still lost in the fog of the last track by the time im a few minutes into Back in Space which is opportune as the artist is probably aware of the effect of his power, so good thing Back To Space gently propels us forward back into the cosmos. The last track was just a stop over and itā€™s time to continue. It hits us with perfectly pitched sounds and tuned layers giving us time to dream and float. All before he hits the button for hyperdrive which is purple button for some reason and speeds us into the karmic thunder storm of the universe eating itā€™s self. I guess we really are children of the universe huh? Long Way is the same starry skied, cosmi-fied banger wearing different garb. A silky smooth, Opal encrusted, violet garb. With a little extra sparkle and lustre than the other tracks but the same smoothly textured melodies I can't help but sit back, close my eyes and feel like everything is just right. After his little trick at the end of track 3 (Dark Abyss) i was hesitant to believe he was really going to build that last break of Long Way into another act. But the crazy cosmonaut does it making it the coolest moment of the album. One of the great things about this music is feels like artists aim is give you pleasure and enjoyment and when they do something like that, it feels extra nice because itā€™s like they are saying ~ ā€œNo, I am not done giving you pleasure and enjoyment just yet! Iā€™m going to give you more pleasure, pleasure with my mind and my hands." And I like that goddamned it. Just like in Pulsar the track could have ended at the 5 & a half minute point, but he gives you a build that sits just under a minute (Time well spent imo) and a final act of glorious melody. The Starry Sky of Sakhalin comes in to catch us from all of that. It has some cool beat change ups and a sparkly soundscapes, the final melody opens up itā€™s trench coat to reveal galaxies of gaseous testicles full of all of the beauty of the universe. *Nice vocals too. The final track Interstellar is a downtempo contemplative track. A track that's good for long walk while you think. About, all of the stuff and the things, the movement and the direction of this world, the force and the motion of this existence, And what the fuck is up with Crypto Currency? Very dreamy and very nice, reminds me a lot of that Katedra style that is downtempo yet full of energy and movement. Every track really is written so well. Each break spirals into this kind of sweet oblivion and then drops into a new act that gives each track new life. Centavraā€™s Music is weird. Itā€™s loud and very forward yet incredibly deep and hidden. *Moving on He also does this thing that iā€™ve really only consistently noticed in Arronaxā€™s music where it feels like he is drawing back a cosmic arrow on a cosmic bow made out opals from the planet zenon b 352, Which is weird, because their opals are buried six hundred and thirty five thousand and 2 kilometres under the molten surface. How did he get them? Did he force the local population of tribal Marglarks to dedicate their existence to building the infrastructure over generations in order to dig further and further into Zenon b 352 all so he could get some opals? Did he create generations of mythos and worship around the importance of these opals leading the simple Marglarks to focus on their digging above their own families and tribal conflicts? Did he enslave Marglarks? What did you do Dmitry! Forget the poor Marglarks for a moment will you? Back to the bow, he draws and charges before letting it go and having it come right at you with this intensity and speed. Itā€™s cool ...... and cosmic But Dmitry differs from Arronax in that the incoming attack is less of an attack and more of a happy pill that makes everything feel as if it's in the place it's meant to be. For a moment the world feels whole. Each track has at least 1 incredibly euphoric and fantastic moment which is all i really ask for. But most tracks are either full of fantastic euphoric moments or just one big fantastic moment all the way through. What Dmitry and the team over at Global Sect are doing is miraculous. I give it 5 out of 5 Super Hadron Colliders https://globalsect.bandcamp.com/album/centavra-project-antigravity

  3. Reddit, Facebook, Discord, etc. are no great substitute for forums, but forums are often poorly moderated, full of weirdos (see above), and pretty much ghost towns, so...mostly I just enjoy music in isolation, and dedicate myself to mixcraft, exploring new music, and refining my collection (updating metadata, completing discographies, etc.). I've been very busy producing high-quality mixes these years, and will be ending 2022 with another 36 hours of content published. All of that can be found on my homepage and the usual places (Mixcloud for HQ audio, SoundCloud for the more social experience). I also got into edits and production these years so I'm constantly churning out new versions of classic tracks for my own use and enjoyment. Not sure what I'll be doing with any of these dozens of projects except including them in some old school mixes when I get around to them. I have another three or four commissioned mixes to complete before I get to that though. As for reviews, I seldom get the sense that many people read them, and I tend to prefer investing my time in making recommendations on my Facebook page rather than writing reviews these days. I also got out of the habit of listening to new releases since I'm already drowning in music. I'll pick up new releases by artists I like but they end up in the listening backlog after being filed, and it sometimes takes years to get to them. Another issue is that albums are slowly becoming a thing of the past... so much of the new music I grow to love are released as singles, or as hidden gems on otherwise bland compilations, which is partly a consequence of being more dance music-oriented. Even so, a bunch of releases from 2022 already caught my ear one way or another: - Beyond Expectation compiled by my friend DJ Solitare - Club Unity, if you don't mind going further afield than just standard psytrance stuff - Filteria - Live With The Lag, but that's an easy one since I'm such a Filteria fan - Techgnosis Vol. 6, but I'm biased (as label co-founder) - Indoor - Reworks, very close to the originals but brought up to modern standards - Chaim - In Trance We Trust, for obvious reasons (I love classic Goa trance + modern progressive house and nu-disco) - Dark Elf - True Darkness, one of the very best pure darkpsy releases I've heard in quite some time My eclectic tastes are showing, ah? Anyway, it was another good year for music, and I'm looking forward to what 2023 brings us!

  4. I was having a little PM discussion elsewhere after reading this and I noticed a few times people mentioning their age. My year has been quite odd, late stages grieving for a close relative which is never good, but something lightened in spring so I think this is why I made a couple of tracks after a 10 month or so break. We have had Covid and a war that is ongoing so this without doubt affects what is probably the pinnacle of celebration music. Lot of people reflecting on various aspects of life, that takes up some time and maybe time where we need peace and quiet. It will have an impact. I still bought a few tracks but have been looking back in time to the early 2000's. I think there is a lot of looking back going on.. I think we can all understand that. I hope to continue having inspiration for new tracks in 2023. It is a good place to escape and enjoy time in a way that seems worthwhile so I cannot see any reason not to at this time. It will be what it will be. All the best in 2023 everyone.

  6. Tbf and in retrospect, the way Fullon is/ was slandered on this forum was so unnecesary and quite childish. It's just music... in general this forum has always been wayyyy too echo-chamber-ish for my taste, although it obviously had its good parts else I wouldn't have stuck around (for example the review section helped me discover some great music). Sorry for the salty post and hope everyone is having a great day <3

  7. I really wish I could organize my music in multiple folders at once. I use Tags for OSX to designate format/bit level (FLAC v WAV v MP3) but I can't use it for genres in the same way. It would be great, without making copies and wasting space, or doing shortcuts/aliases, and place files in multiple folders for easy access/retrieval when digging for music. I'm trying to get better at tagging stuff within Rekordbox, as it would kinda work the same, I just only listen via Rekordbox when actively DJing, not just when listening/looking for music.

  8. Here is what I wrote on Discogs. Maybe I should revise my review and post it in the reviews section? Doctorg Jul 23, 2021 referencing Let There Be Light (12", 33 ā…“ RPM, EP) SUNCDEP02 Really excellent sound on this 12". Good mastering and pressing. Astral Projection's remix of Filteria's "Filtertraces" sounds so classically AP that Filteria seems neither here nor there - a very sweet epic track that hovers on the edge of the saccharine towards the end, but in the right mood is a bomb. The masters of melody do not fail to deliver. Filteria returns the favour with a remix of "Let There be Light": this is altogether tougher and faster with the bigger bass of nu skool Goa. The lead melody is perhaps a bit forward in the mix, making it strident - this spoils part of this remix, which I can't fully rate. The Morphic Resonance remix of AP's "Enlightened Evolution" doesn't have shrill leads or cheesy modulations, but it can't really be said to add much, if anything, to the original, which I prefer. Two not such great remixes from the nu skool guys. I notice that neither of them has the perfect sound that Astral manage; their production is just not as subtle. Then it is the turn of Astral to remix their own track "Another World" from the album of that name. Ahhh, sweet bliss. This is almost indescribably awesome: pure spirituality in aural form. I felt my body dissolving into a sea of pulsating pixels to this track. For me "Dancing Galaxy" and "Another World" are their best albums, and that this track seems to attain another level of beauty in this remix seems miraculous to me. Wow! I'm afraid I have no choice but to conclude that the old school masters showed these Johnny come latelies a thing or two. Two great remixes from AP, forget about the other two. ~*~

  9. I really like the concept here with artist projects remixing each other and remixing one of their own classic tracks, lovely artwork as well. I would love to see more collaborations/remixes like this. For example Artifact303 remixes of Astral Projection or MFG and vice versa. It would've been a nice addition as well if Pleiadians/Etnica would've remixed some of Filteria's early tracks from that era when he remixed their classics (Sky Input/Heliopolis era). Maybe in the future?

  10. Merry Christmas everyone! Unfortunately it seems that forums are a thing of the past. Reddit, discord, social media are the new way of ppl talking about their hobbies. I personally prefer the forum format, but hey I'm an old fart, youngsters run the internet. Personally I still listen to psytrance daily, but it's stuff from my collection. I haven't bought a single release in 3 years, since I'm broke therefore i can't contribute with new reviews. I'm also tired of online discussion, I prefer to watch YouTube videos or browse 9gag and stuff. I'm officially a grumpy old man, plus anxiety and stuff has wore me down.šŸ˜ If there's something that really bugs me though is the sad state of psytrance on YouTube. Every psytrance video that has million of views is this weird new genre that barely represent psytrance. It sounds like the most safe, commercial, boring psy you can think of. Artists that I barely know like Captain Hook or Blastoyz have millions of views. I'm sometimes thinking.. I'm listening to psytrance for 15 years, I have discussed it for thousands of hours, yet I don't know who these guys are. I still don't get what happened.

  11. This thread has already sprawled into a few different discussion topics. I'll pick just one of them for this post. I think that in 2022 I learned to listen to music again. Seriously. My recollections may be somewhat distorted already, but in 2021 there were just so many issues with moving, renovations, distractions, stress, maybe even hearing, that I was rarely able to find a moment when I could concentrate on music and really enjoy it. 2022 hasn't been exactly great either, but I think it has been better, especially the latter half. There was even a long-standing issue with HDD space and its organisation, complicating the simple task of downloading and extracting my numerous purchases. Buying stuff is something I've been trying to do and to promote, though, no matter what. Artists have had tough years and I have a constant fear of missing out. Well, now I have more disk space, a week off, and an immense backlog of barely touched music since 2019 or so. Let's see what happens. Reviews not promised, but that's another topic. Now I'll stop here and enjoy some Christmas delicacies.

  12. @RTP Yeah this one in particular resonates profoundly, as if reality itself is a living entity explaining to its inhabitating time-space limited creatures what the future holds: "Transpersonal, interdimensional, or extraterrestrial (ET) event Predictions about transpersonal, interdimensional, or extraterrestrial occurrences; predictions about advancements in consciousness or technology ā€œThere is going to be a clear distinct divide and a restructuring of society with the assistance of ET consciousness. The lower vibrational humans are going to be phased out and replaced.ā€ ā€œWeā€™ll break strings apart and discover yet another universe within them, and so forth. And we shall continue to look outwardly and find multiple universes, the multi-multi-trans-dimensional-matrix of a multi-universal multi-verse which is a never-ending fractal of infinite complexity.ā€

  15. Don't know why Logic Bomb would shoot themselves in the foot like that (but big names do strange things, echospace [detroit] biggest dub techno label out there went MIA for about 3-4 years, wether things has started sorting itself out is anyones guess). Obviously now is christmas holidays too so nothing is probably going to happen until mid-january at the earliest. Luckily I have the original vinyl pressing on TIP.W. so didn't go for the repress. Don't know if I would've at that price though! But this is a shifting market and we're not dealing with regulated businesses anymore. I think that the legal aspects of human to human trade is more up for interpretation in that merchants are now living breathing human beings with everything that comes with it, instead of heavily regulated businesses with paid employees, in that the pressing and putting out music might actually in some cases be put on hold indefinitely. And anything can happen at any time. Every purchase that I make, I know is essentially just a leap of faith! In general I want to keep buying the music, but with all the uncertainty and no information coming with bandcamp and private sellers, my buying motivation is getting a little hard to keep up... I bought a lot more music when there was actually shops around who was actually into selling CDs and vinyl.
