Sleep Night Music....?

I know for fact that many people does not agree with the popular statement of finding new name for every differents styles...

Whatsoever I decide to go thru my idea.

I find out that some of the Ambient cd's that I have are more like deep minimal beat with this big relaxing ambiance.

Well I know that my description its not really clear and that the major reason why I brought this subject.

Just a couple of exemple of what I considere that be classified as sleep night music:

1-Midnight Soul Dive on ALEPH ZERO RECORDS

2-Mimesis/art imitating life

3-Vataff Project/Kalitz

4-Solar Fields(the two first albums)

5-Ear Pleasure/compilation by CHILL TRIBE RECORDS

6-Sattyananda/Internal Activities

7-Ishq/Timelapse In Mercury

8-Intermittent Memories on CELESTIAL DRAGON RECORDS

9-Elemental Journey and Music for a busy head/ABSOLUTE AMBIENT

So my question its the following one did you believe that those record can be call by other name that just Ambient?

I wonder if maybe its already an name for that type of music please let me know.

Psychedelic ambient

or "Psybient"

that's a name for the more recent ambient with basslines/beats (ambient actually stands for BEATLESS music for as much as I know).

I think it's called like that because artists became inspired by the (psy)trance culture and sounds. Most ambient artists I know from the late eighties and early '90s were more beatless. Most of the artists I know that are making this so called "psybient" are somehow linked to the psytrance culture.

i'm not saying that there is a clear line between ambient and psybient, or that one has beats and the other one doesn't, so you can call it whatever you want to ;)

but if you're looking for more artists like the ones you named, look for "psybient" or "psychedelic chill". Ultimae Records (visit their site of you don't already know that label) has some of the very best artists imo. Especially Asura, Aes Dana, Solar Fields...

btw, if anyone wants to adjust my little theory here, please do so :)

Orbit Constructions-Andromeda

Asura-Life2

Ollie Olsen-Emptiness

V/A-Oxycanta

V/A-Life Is...

All of them have helped me to sleep with ease.

I would like to know wich genre britney spears' new album is... Since it aint like the old pop, it must be something new... LETS GIVE IT A NAME!!!! It's almost like beatpop, or bpmpop, cous it has a beat!

And maybe wutangs new album isn't hiphop anymore caus it has a guitarist and a drummer on it... So it's called rock-hop or what???

Edit: Sorry, didn't realise this was different than the other "new-genre name" topics... My bad :)

Do you think though that are perfect for sleeping?

I find both Entheogenic and Capsula too much ''uptempo'' for relaxing. Great artists of course, but IMO not so Sleep Night Music.

Evan Bartholomew - Caverns Of Time/Secret Entries Into Darkness

Motionfield - Optical Flow

Emanuele Errante - Humus

Steve Roach - The Magnificent Void/The Dreamtime Box

VA - Oxycanta (Ultimae Records)

Solar Fields - Extended

I often listen to old UK techno when I go to sleep. Not the dancefloor orientated techno, but the more atmospheric albums of: Orbital, FSOL, Emmanuel Top, Planetary Assault Systems (Luke Slater)...

Especially listening to Orbital makes me calm (not sleepy). Their smooth, atmospheric sounds and happy rhytms just clear my head. Even though the structure of their music is less complex compared to what I usually listen to, they always catch my concentration forr 100% and believe me, it takes a lot to do that :)

I can't sleep to most psy-ambient ... Solar Fields or CBL for example, it gives me goosebumps and that keeps me from nodding off, it's too good music :)

To Sync24 I can, that one suits well.

(Oxycanta I haven't tried yet.)

But for sleeping I often choose some dark ambient, that one eases the nodding off.

Or drone ambient. But I ain't got that much drone stuff yet, so I rarely listen to it.
