Favourite Major Goa Compilation Series?

Personally I heard Distance to Goa first... didn't like it much and at the time I was mainly listening to Psy. After that I heard Goa Head which was what got me into oldschool Goa. Destination Goa I heard for the first time a week ago which totally blew me away with it's eastern sounds and very atmospheric tracks.

Which one do you guys prefer out of those 3 or are there another Major Noteable compilation series out there?

Hmmm I find tantrance 4 and 6 the better of the series....

Yeah, I don't have the compilations but have all the tracks from the both and you are right, but you have to agree that Number 5 was pretty sucky. :D

none actually .... i prefer artist albums or VA albums from a certain label which feature those label-artists...preferably with tracks that arnt really on any other compilations

dunno...but i like some coherence in albums...not just collections of "hits" or big artists...

plus with those compilation with label-artist you can hear them evolve :)

[think i.e. the matsuri comp or the koyote comp]

[all imho of course :P]

Actually it's a very hard choice to say which one is the best... I agree with what the others said here...

All of the classic series have fantastic compilations between them... :)

Distance to Goa 1-7

Destination Goa 1-6

Goa Head 1-8

Tantrance 1-7

Pulse 1-7

My favourite from each series:

Distance to Goa: 4 & 5

Destination Goa: 2 & 3

Goa Head: 3 & 6

Tantrance: 4 & 6

Pulse:1 & 3

Don't know if it counts, but for me it's definitely TIP's colours series: Yellow, Orange, Blue, Phosphorescent, Beyond Colour + their re-releases / variations released on Nippon Crown.

I have to say Distance To Goa although Vol.9 & 10 were horrible!

Then Destination Goa series, ranges from superb (vol.5) to just good (vol.9 & 10).

Goa-Head, Pulse and TanTrance started really good but they all ended releasing boring German progressive and techno.

I myself am a Destination Goa freak all the way. The Goa Head series never really did it for me as I quickly realized that I own most of its tracks on proper artist albums and label compilations...

Distance To Goa has some gems, yeah, and those DJ mixes were cool, while the Tantrance series contained some tunes which would wound up shaping my future taste in music. I eventually got turned away from that series as most of those Tantrance V.A.s contained famous tracks I already owned on other releases, prior to buying the afore mentioned compilations.

GOA-HEAD

My favourite compilation series ... the only one that really got the transformation of this scene right - at least until volume 20. Meanwhile there's already fullon on them, a big disappointment. But until volume 20 Goa-Head was the best compilation series out there for me...

As for the music I vote for Destination Goa series for high quality stuff.

As for the design I like Tantrance covers created by Georg Reimann

(not forgetting Mark Neal and Organix works for Dragonfly, Flying Rhino and Matsuri).

Totally agree with you on Georg Reimann and Mark Neal aka Dusk Demons artwork, they have been a great source of inspiration for me :) and i think they captured very well what was inside the on the CD/Vinyl.

That is one of the reasons I prefer the vinyl media. :)

The vinyl sleeves are much bigger than the CD ones and you can find more details and get the better understanding of a design concept.

Guest The Journey Man Project

1. Tantrance: High quality releases that always had good sound quality and awesome covers. They alway had th ebest tracks whether it was real goa or the later minimal/tech styles

2. Destination Goa: Good quality, I felt their only downfall were the outlays fo the cd, pretty boring for those who buy

3. Distance To Goa: these alway someohow managed to be my fav cd's for sunrise... they had really nice acid melodic morning tunes
