    VA - Magnet

    1. Funky Monkey / Cydonia 2. Facing / Infected Mushroom 3. 911 / Koxbox 4. Trance Former / Space Cat 5. ReFresh / Sphere 6. HelloII / Skazi vs. Dj Omi 7. Mysterya / Dino Psaras vs. Sterilizer 8. Tasty Mushroom (Eat Static Remix) / Infected Mushroom 9. Breath / Bamboo Forest Magnet is an interesting compilation from the Japanese label Vision Quest. Compiled by Dino Psaras in 2003, it features a number of high profile names yet it seems to have slipped under the radar of many trance listeners. There is no theme at work here; the track ordering seems virtually random here. This is merely another CD primed and ready for DJs to filter out some killer dance floor cuts. The opening track reunites Dino Psaras with Ian Rive for what seems to be the final offering from Cydonia. Funky Monkey is a deadly night-time stormer loaded with tribal drumming, killer bass, and spooky atmospheres. There aren't any strong melodies but a track like this doesn't need any! For fans of the classic tune Anaconda, this is sure to satisfy. As a DJ tool, Funky Monkey is nearly unsurpassed; year after year it remains a recognizable feature of my sets. There is something special about the absolutely unstoppable way in which this song unfolds. In my books, this is essential! Facing is great song in Infected Mushroom's classical style. It is completely devoid of vocals, guitars, or build-ups. The Infected duo take a deep dive into the emotional side of psychedelic trance without resorting to gimmickry. Instead, this song draws immense power from soft melodies, serene choral overtures, and subtle transitions. This uncommonly genuine piece of psytrance is a tribute to the group's innate talents; it is a shame they have left this path for more profitable pastures. Needless to say, this is essential listening for any Infected fan. Koxbox released no more than a handful of tracks from 2001 to 2005. In this time, Frank E and Ian Ion parted ways, and the sound of the group underwent a remarkable metamorphosis. 911 reflects the changing times it is much tougher than previous material from the group. Some have called it techtrance, but I don't feel as if that describes this very well. Conventional melodies are not a large part of the action, but there is never any shortage of psychedelic noises to latch on to. Funky mutant bass lines and killer kicks create an impeccable dance floor groove, and the production quality is naturally of the highest calibre. This is top-notch psychedelic dance music that transcends boundaries. Space Cat's Trance Former is an piece of full-on psytrance infused with hints of the old school spirit. The arrangement is very straight-forward, building and breaking down in the time-honoured fashion of uplifting trance anthems. Gorgeous melodies and shimmering choral voices will combine to lift the dance floor to new heights when the time is right. Sweet and saccharine. Sphere is a one-off side project from Bamboo Forest (Stephane Dureisseix; Yann Henaff). Refresh is an original composition based on am addictive morning groove reminiscent of Cosma's Saffy Smoke-A-Lot and Quadra's Orbit Simulator. Gorgeous vocals, progressive-style chord strikes, and melodies like liquid sunshine ensure a favourable response wherever this is played. Fantastic! Skazi & DJ Omi team up on HelloII, an aggressive exploration of monotonous stomping beats and sparse atmospheres. Predictably bland. Mysteryo will sound familiar to anyone who has heard Dino's Lick It album or the song End from Atomic Powder. Composed with a steady unyielding drive, this track has the feel of a crossover piece aimed at the big room trance crowd. A sparse three-note melody does little to augment the plain rhythms and simplistic breakdowns. Easily overlooked. The eighth track is the shocker of the compilation! Eat Static put a charming Latin twist on Infected Mushroom's Tasty Mushroom, spicing up the bass line with a killer salsa groove. Curiously mechanical trumpets and a hint of flute complete the transformation. What an unexpected treat! Bold, creative, and uncompromisingly experimental, this exotic dance floor anthem should inspire a strong reaction for years to come. Bamboo Forest close the album with Breath, a massive festival-friendly anthem loaded with female vocals taken from a popular Brazilian folk song. The richly synthetic Bamboo Forest groove can be heard loud and clear; this French duo sure know how to lay down a sick set of original psytrance rhythms! Initially I did not like this track very much but I will admit that it has grown on me over the years. Magnet is a surprisingly diverse compilation that is well worth tracking down. Although the quality level is by no means consistent, Dino Psaras selected some absolutely blinding tracks for this release. This is made for DJs, collectors, and fans of the individual acts featured here. Cydonia, Koxbox, Infected Mushroom, Eat Static, Space Cat, and Bamboo Forest all supply some exceptional material, so this is easy to recommend despite the weaker tunes. Ghreg On Earth - T³

    1. The Lost Coast 2. Tea Time at Lonliness Chasm 3. All Paths Pronoia 4. Subterranean Bliss 5. Permutation City 6. Diabolical T¹opologies 7. T²ime Body Mechanics 8. SuperLucid T³rajectory 9. Neverware? 10. Apex Stellarium This review was originally published on http://www.beginnerd...reg-on-earth-t3 and http://forum.isratra...rth-t-usp-2009/ Ghreg is back with his second album T3. This time hes on a brand new label called Underground Sound Promotions, a label dedicated to promoting the underground sound and not so known artists. Ive been waiting for this follow up for quite some time, so Im quite excited to be doing a review of it. I figure I may as well start of BeginnerDJ with this review, something out of the ordinary for most but something I think youd like. After his first album, Sigilweaver, its hard to believe Ghreg can follow up such an amazing album. This time around, T3 pulls out a lot of the stops and just smashes your face with dark psytrance beats. What makes Ghreg so great is that he doesnt fall into the usual dark psytrance crowd. Darkpsy is iffy at times because a lot of producers just dont put a lot of effort into the genre, you always end up with basic basslines and non inspirational leads. Ghreg on the other hand just sends you through all sorts of mind fucts wizzy noises, great sampling, and basslines which make you shit yourself. So, lets take a look at the new album T3 by Ghreg on Earth. With all pretentiousness aside The Lost Coast Although starting out a bit slow, this track builds up into a bit of guitar sampling and glitchy symphonics which reminds you of some twisted carnival ride at the hands of a drunken conductor. Its not so much that it pounds at you but instead it acts like a warm up of more to come. With T3 opening with The Lost Coast you know Ghreg is back. Tea Time At Lonliness Chasm Is the best track on this album in my opinion. Typical Ghreg on Earth bassline with haunting atmosphere takes you somewhere else. Such a dark psychedelic beast from deep abbys!! All Paths Pronoia All Paths Paranoia is a simple but really great track. The best part about this track is the electronic voices throughout the song that talk to you. Ive always been a big fan of producers who try to have their synths talk to you so this track hits it right on the head. It finally ends in a torrent of clangy and glitchy noises, spinning round and round, almost dizzying but such a wonderful sickening feeling. Subterranean Bliss Subterranean Bliss opens with punchy kicks and a nagging stab. Like the name, it gives off this vibe that youre descending into some kind of darkness. You get the sense that youre beginning to loose your direction. This is the point in T3 that it begins to move you, youve been bobbing your head but now youre getting in a bit of the body. Permutation City Ah, now were really getting into the essence of Darkpsy. The bassline is much thicker and dark, the ambiance is beginning to take a cryptic tone and alertness. Like the title, its like youre in some post-apocalyptic world set to a soundtrack of terror. Diabolical T¹opologies This one is just a filler track, a bit of dark ambiance and moodiness that warms up the next track T²ime Body Mechanics This track came out of left field! At first it sounds like youre about to listen to a DnB track but the ambiance fades it away, but then, oh shit, it comes back to this Darkpsy DnB beat. This track reminds me of a slightly slowed down Neurofunk track, but with a lot more psy undertones. Time Body Mechanics is a nice transition and breakup of the album, setting the next tone for the rest of the album. SuperLucid T³rajectory What a sick track. Ghreg begins to experiment with darkpsy dubstep. Ive heard some dark ambient dubstep before but this is completely different and unexpected. I really wish the track was longer than it was, it has so much force. Neverware? After that little break of experimenting, its right back into the dark psy. This track is a doozy, hitting an 11 minutes, quite longer than the other tracks on the album. This track has this odd flute effect to it which, for some reason or another, makes me think of some demented pied piper. Theres just so much going on with this track that its hard to describe all of the thoughts you get from it. Neverware is perhaps the best track from T3 its such a solid hit. Apex Stellarium The final track of T3. Apex Stellarium takes you through one final dark ride. It sounds as if youre finally leaving some forsaken land to return to the normal world. Youve finally escaped the grasp of Ghreg on Earth. Final Thoughts T3 is rather hard album to review because of Ghregs first album Sigilweaver, but in fairness I dont want to be judgemental and biased. You expected to be pounded by ripping basslines and squelching acid leads but instead it was much more moody and ominous. T3 overall has this sound as if youve just entered some dark and twisted surreal world. Your journey though Ghregs land is as if hes puppetting your every move, leading you deeper into some hellish world. Overall Id say T3 is an excellent follow up to Sigilweaver. Instead of going a generic route of filling up and album with similar songs, Ghreg has set T3 apart from his previous work by experimenting with new fusions. Both of the albums will compliment each other well and could easily be listened to back to back or even mixed up. I like this album. It was worth the wait. 15. Tracklist: 1 - Flamingo 2 - Manipulator 3 - Return to the Sauce 4 - Groove Attack 5 - Gravity Waves (Infected Mushroom 2017 Remix) 6 - Demons of Pain (Remix) 7 - Milosh 8 - Nutmeg 9 - Liquid Smoke Since they first emerged with their phenomenal premiere album "The Gathering", the trance duo "Infected Mushroom" changed the face of Psychedelic trance music forever. Their new album, "Return To The Sauce" includes nine new tracks arising powerful scents of the past. Like mushrooms that have grown on their land, so noticeable is the feeling that the duo created the album within their most natural place. The album throws the listener far away to a musical experience in the style of the early years of the mushroom. Contaminated from beginning to end, the album glorifies the three-dimensional sound signature of the duo, along with multi-layered melodies and riding on an aggressive baseline galloping ahead with full power. The result is a terrifying and unrestrained experience. As an infection, keeping its original shape yet still evolving and growing stronger, the album is well-imbedded inside its original roots, yet contains a clear and contemporary statement as well as a look far ahead into the future. 17. In 1997, between one significant world event to another, psytrance music, that has been planted just a few years earlier began to sprout musical buds at different corners of the world. At that time, beneath all international radars, a partnership between three young electronic music addicts began to form. Their sole purpose was to nourish these buds and grow them beyond all musical and conceptual boundaries that were accepted at that time. With this vision, as if asking to bring about the future of electronic music sooner, the young men began their journey. At first, they opened a tiny improvised studio which hosted young artists such as Moshe Keinan, Avi Shmailov, Erez Eisen, Amit Duvdevani, Udi Sternberg and many others Those, which our paths have crossed and never parted, are the young men who dared to dream the future of psy-trance and were able to make it come true. And so it was, the formerly unknown studio "HOMmega Productions" became a leading international label, firmly implanting its roots in the past, breathing the present and continuously looking ahead into the future. Those young artists mentioned above, later became Xerox, Astrix, Infected Mushroom and PsySex, electronic musical entities sharing our common vision and dictating psy-trance music. Not by chance, this album marks 20 years of our achievements. It represents a tonal creation made in the present, by weaving the past with threads of the future. The first part of the album is comprised of 10 classics remixed to play the future harmonized with the past. The second part of the album is comprised of 10 classics loyally representing our past. As if they were a painting slightly fading with time, we decided to polish the sounds by remastering the tracks yet keeping them authentically preserved. The results are 20 various crossbreeds taken from then, now and beyond...
