That's the colour tags making the text almost the same colour as the background. If one copies coloured text and pastes it into the new editor it will automatically insert tags (and similarly for bold, italic etc.).

Yes, for the reasons I already gave.

Apparently so - I guess that's another "feature" of the new-style editor. If you want to avoid stuff like that happening, you can use the button in the top left corner of the editor (alt-text "Toggle editing mode").
