  1. 10 years ago HMV and Tower Records had 1000s of psy CDs. There used to Psytrance only shops. I remember the day I went in to Shibuya to visit my favourite Psytrance shop and it had closed down and had becone :( another crappy teenage girl clothes shop. The best shop now is disc union that has a mix of new and used CDs and vinyls. Occasionally you'll just find something fantastic, like Ambiant Otaku. The problem is that they got better knowledge now and it's harder to find the gems for dirt cheap these days.
  2. I was about to buy this but then I found it in my CD collection. How could I have forgotten I bought it?? It's great and needs more play time. I tried ripping these CDs to FLAC and the last track just refuses to rip. Extremely frustrating

I shit you not! Truly weird backwardness from a supposedly hi tech society.
  4. Yep and just plain wrong. It's why I'll never get a dog in this country despite the fact that they are brilliant.

I was amazed when I first came to Japan in 2003, on the news they showed the baseball scores. You know the type, if you don't want to know the scores look away now. But instead of a computer screen changing to show the scores, they had a guy with a big bit of card with the scores covered by tape, then he removed the tape to shoe the scores. This was 2003, two thousand and fucking three!! They only started using computer screens a few years ago. I shit you not, Japan can be backward as shit. Up until 10 years ago, in Yokohama the biggest single city in the country, some houses didn't have indoor plumbing, they had cess pits and a truck came round to remove their shit from their house.
  6. I was looking forward to this but I've given it two casual listens so far and nothing has struck me as being above average. I might need to give it a more focused listen and get in to the details to enjoy it as the casual listens revealed nothing like I've been hearing about this, it's been more a wall if noise with no movement or direction. I'm hoping it gets better on repeat listens, now I just need to give it a chance.

Japan is weird when it comes to technology. Some things are ultra hi tech, some ultra low tech. Ice cream cooling is unfortunately not well developed.
  8. A lot of families have them too. While I want a dog, I'll never get one in Japan. It's not a doggie paradise. Most people live in the cities but even in the countryside it's illegal to allow your dog off the leash. It's cruel to keep dogs tied up, they need to run and play.

Should've been ready with some strong tranquillisers. They couldn't wait, you just don't know what might happen, but shooting the poor thing dead was unnecessary.
  10. Physical media is still extremely popular in Japan. Record shops are everywhere, CDs still cost $30 and video rental shops are profitable. It's like the whole country has said fuck you to digital media
  11. I picked it up really cheap in a record store in mint condition
  12. In case anyone's wondering https://www.discogs.com/Scann-Tec-Facial-Memories/release/2197450 Brilliant album but that cover is
  13. I get a kind of simulation of it when I get a cold. A constant ringing in my ears in silent conditions that can become deafening. I'm lucky because it only lasts a week but it makes me terrified to abuse my ears with overly loud music.
  14. There may be a source to everything that pisses you off but it can still be irrational. My old lady example above, the source is probably my own frustration of not knowing what she's doing coupled with my desire to be outside more. But it's irrational to feel anger at her, yet I do.
  15. "Namlook" is "Koolman", a phonetic rendering of his real name, Kuhlmann, spelled backward. Never cottoned on to that For Namlook my favourites were Shades of Orion From Within Time^2 For Fax but not Namlook I'd say Tetsu Inoue - Ambiant Otaku is immense
  16. With its unique cinematic downtempo aesthetics, Unyt leads us into a perpetually expanding travel through soundcapes while playing with our centers of attention, loss of focus and a certain sense of dispersion. The album redefines Scann-Tecs approach to musical composition and introduces multi-form field recordings vaporised in an array of analog and digital tools to create surreal and behind the veil atmospheres ; wide etheral pads floating high above his distinctive, dynamic and well-calibrated low-end, slender drums, and finely carved rhythmic patterns set the pace gradually transforming free fall into a zero-G experiment. Vladislav Isaev, music composer and sound sculptor from Moscow, Russia, also known as Scann-Tec started writing music in 1996. He has since been working as Audio director for NIVAL, a Russian game developer and composing music for various TV Series. Vladislav collaborated with The Future Sound of London and Mark Morgan on several projects, with Sundial Aeon and with his partner Elena started an electronic project Broadcast of Variants. After several tracks on various compilations and two solo albums, Scann-Tec releases his third opus Unyt on Ultimae. Written & Produced by Vladislav Isaev | Monokanal Studio Audio mastering by Vincent Villuis | Ultimae Studio
  17. https://ultimae.bandcamp.com/album/unyt-24bit A new SCANN-TEC album on Ultimae (and looks like they banned him from choosing the cover art ) Looking forward to June 16th Also Ultimae know how to price digital downloads. 10 for the CD or 24bit FLAC, 5 for the 16bit FLAC or mp3 Shame not more labels price like this and one that does is one I need to keep up physical collection of
