This project and this album in particular has a huge following so I figured I'd put it to the test. I don't want to piss on anyone's parade, but it's hard to see why people fawn all over this. I would put anything that Solar Fields, Aes Dana, Asura, Astropilot, or Koan has done over this. I realize it's almost twenty years old, but a classic should be a classic. The sound is techno combined with ambient textures. It's repetitive and doesn't evolve all that much. Perhaps it's a situation where those that grew up with this marked special times in their lives. Perhaps it was a soundtrack for those special and important moments. Because technically I'm not impressed. I'm ok with not liking it. That's why there is so much music out there. Something for everyone. But for those that love it, I wouldn't mind hearing why. Mdk

We have a saying in the states..."Let's just throw some sh*t on the wall and see what sticks." That's not supposed to be a literal translation. But we have something more important here. Evidence. Pure and simple evidence. It's staring you right in the face. What you are looking at is actual written proof and documented time when the careers of Azax Syndrom and Electric Universe plunged into the toilet. Quite remarkable actually that both seemed to occur at exactly the same time. So what's the common denominator? Dj Jorg. Look we can ridicule the absolutely horrid album cover all day and I believe it made it into the worst covers thread. But ultimately the music is what decides whether an album has merit and...whoo. This is some of the worst full-on sh*t I've ever heard. This is cheese Everest. Listening to this I actually experienced pain. Real physical pain. Guitars and buildups are just two of the cliche's that made the mid 2000's a wasteland of psytrance. The leads are not appealing in the slightest and it's rife with the slow down technique. Evolution? You gotta be f*cking kidding me. In an attempt to rewrite history (and/or perhaps rid the Earth of this scourge) it is no longer available at Beatspace or Psyshop. Mdk

Concept of freedom 10. Deepest Thoughts "Freedom is not something that we easily understand." Sometimes you're just in the mood for a little progressive. No, that's Progresso soup. Most tender chicken ever? It is getting colder here and that sounds delicious. When I need my progressive trance fix I turn to the leader of the pack Iono Music who very rarely let me down. This is Anton Maiko, yet another Russian residing in Israel. It's like Russia south down there. The Israeli vodka machine must be working overtime. With his third album he delivers the kind of tunes that are right in my strike zone. Flowing melodic stuff that makes you wiggle in the middle. Simple Moves dwells in the clouds, but still retains its big bottom end. New Day brings a feeling of hope with great effects. Female vocals in several tracks give the music a dreamlike spiritual gravitas. But all the tracks have that lush appeal that mark an Iono release. Washes, punchy bass lines, reverb, and delay set to 11. Yep the gang's all here. If you want to drift away this is your ticket. Hell yeah this is recommended. His debut is a rather lo fi approach with low bpms and dubby beats. There is an outer space feel where you can feel the bass sitting prominently in the mix. The tracks are short and mildly eerie in an X-files sort of way. Sometimes robotic, sometimes hopeful. I found myself looking forward to the next track to see how he would keep this minimal style interesting. And he did. Mostly. Well, some. To tell the truth the novelty wore off around track five. Not something I would routinely reach for, but a nice break when you're feeling mellow and want something a little different. Free at Ektoplazm Mdk

Take an average track, give it to Hector and he Ovnimoons it. The original was bare and laid back, but the remix was more aggressive. That's what he does. It's the dead of winter in Red Square with snowflakes tumbling from dark clouds heavy with moisture. Never seen a Russian winter? Me neither. But this will get you there faster than if you called Putin a homo. Hold your hands close to the paltry fire to gain some warmth as night closes in during Inner Fly. As the arpeggio cycles listen to the alien skitterings underneath in Supersensitive. Good layers and a nice dark atmosphere make this a treat. A little more track development would be nice, but this is still worth your time. Pavel closes with a dreamy and floating track that just melts away minutes. Pretty good. Free at Ektoplazm Mdk

The first couple of times I listened to this I wanted to put Daniel in a dark Portuguese prison with a dead chicken around his neck. I know what you're thinking. What an odd thing to say. I only bring it up because this actually happened to a kid in a foster home in North Carolina. Seems kinda mean and f*cked up so I figured it would be a good form of punishment for Daniel. I mean some sort of retribution needed to be enacted for someone who would willingly put his listeners through the torture of 9 remixes of one track. One. Imagine being stuck in the movie Groundhog day, but instead of getting to cold cock Ned Ryerson you get to beat your head against the wall for 24 hours. Because even with the changes each artist made to the original it's still the same f*cking track. Same one. By the time Tryambaka's version rolled around I was seeing double and began to sharpen my knife. But then I got to thinking. This is probably not meant for home listening and most assuredly not meant to listen to all the way through. Maybe it's just for DJ's looking to drop some acid and thumping beats into their twilight set. Because let me tell you even though there are 8 clones they all have that in common. Eviscerating acid scalpels that are relentless guaranteed to rock the dance floors. The 9th and final mix is a laid back yet eerie dub track that thankfully let me catch my breath. So I would say there is a time and a place for everything. With my kids playing upstairs I was free to let this blare through the subwoofer and I loved it. Floral Fractal Don't know what to think about this one. Do I want to kill the Batman or do I remember that being a lawyer required incurring expensive student loans and should therefore attempt to build my client base? At times I like its varied styles and tempos. Other moments I find myself bored with it. There are nature sounds aplenty so the outdoorsman in me likes it. Guitar is also prominently featured so the unemployed redneck who hates brown people can relate to this. Kyoto is Vitaliy Zenkov and with his second album he travels between aggressive breakbeats and dreamy marijuana cloud watching. The tracks are long episodes that undergo various changes. Sometimes I got lost in them and other times I was counting the minutes. The last track is like a long Santana solo over just such a break beat. So....long story short. Artist: M-Run Title: Viral EP Label: Spacedock Records Date: October, 2013 1. Bastard Train 2. Viral After the massive praise Mario received for his debut album Some Run Just For Fun he's right back at it with a brief 2 track ep. This smacks of striking while the iron is hot so we don't forget about him. No worries my friend. Gone however is the complexity and ass wiggling goa grooves and in its place is 4 on the floor speed goa. It reminds me of Colorbox with its rapid pace like going through a mile long tube waterslide. Man, that would be fun as f*ck. 2 tracks are hardly a large enough sample size to really hold this against his album, but if you were looking for a continuation of Some Run, well this ain't it. If you're looking to spin and twirl to fast goa melodies this will get you there. BTW, don't sleep on the Ep barrage that seems to be Spacedock Records. They've dropped some quality goa goodies. Artist: Suduaya Title: Come Back To Life Label: Uxmal Records Date: March, 2012 1. Snow and Stars 2. Cellular Memory 3. Patience 4. Amethyste (feat Sati Bodisattva) 5. Eternal Angels Uxmal is a Mexican label that has been quite prolific, seemingly releasing an album or EP every week. Their progressive trance has never wowed me, but their downtempo efforts are usually quite solid. Suduaya is Louis David Roquefere from France and here he mixes mournful electric guitar and slow beats with lush pads. It's like viewing a panorama from an exposed mountaintop. Emotional. Thought provoking. Uplifting. Having been atop many a mountain you would think this would appeal to me. And it does. At times it's cold, but always clean. The vocal in Amethyste has a Fifth Element quality about it mixed with anime. I liked the ep and thought it was good. Not great, but good. Psyshop Beatport Mdk

"You take one persons tragedy and force the world to experience it...spread it like sickness." Wow, what a play by play from Infected Goa! Reading through the thread it was interesting seeing opinions change. Some loved it some hated it. This really was I felt groundbreaking when it was released back in 04. From the iconic cover to giving the music a cinematic grandeur. Comparisons to IM can't be helped, but I believe this to be wholly original. Combining psytrance with lofty symphonic elements on this scale hadn't been done before to my knowledge. It's full-on stuff yet layered well with constantly evolving textures. Partially mixed, the tracks flow nicely into each other with ominous strings and evil sounds. The album is intense and extremely atmospheric. The breaks thrust the listener back to a time when poverty was the rule, kings raced to construct the largest castle, and a dragon attack was a distinct possibility. A real shining light in the sea of full-on, this album holds up very well and comes highly recommended from me. It starts off greatly and maintains its atmosphere all the way through. There are dips however as some tracks don't measure up to the great one's like The Mist. Very enjoyable though which is good since this project seems to have been one and done. If this was a cooking show I would pair it with The Art of Being Non by Talpa with a side of Symphonic Adventures by SynSun. That should whet your medieval appetite. Beatspace Psyshop Mdk

But like Rick James said, "Pixie Sticks are a helluva drug." I have to assume that the reviewers listened to a totally different CD than the one I have. Well...had. Like an idiot that didn't know what he had till it was gone I sold my copy, Stupid, I coulda been a million... Well it would've looked great in my goa collection. How can you say this is terrible? It's brilliant, exactly the type of stuff you're pre-ordering from Anjuna. Old school screeching with a psychedelic edge. What I was going for was picking on the German propensity for order and precision. Trance Medusa Records was a German label so I thought I'd have a little fun at their expense. Sleepovers are pure and fun. Nazis took it to another level. As far as title fights with old school masters of goa trance, compilations like Goa Head, Distance To Goa, Trancentral...yadda yadda yadda are where you usually find the big boys and the classic tracks. On the big stage. Look at this tracklist? On first glance it's like the D-list in Hollywood. Paris is a metropolitan sophisticated big time city. Big things happen there. Paris, Texas is not. Reading the beginning of the review without the punchline under the concentration camp makes it seem like a random picture of one of the darkest times in recent history. Even with it my intention was never to offend and if I did that then I apologize. Methinks I've stumbled across one of the lines that shouldn't be used for humor. Mdk

After hearing the awesome Digging Mudd album I had to check this out. I wasn't a huge fan of the Buddhas, but they really surprised me with their pre-Twin Sharkfins goa trance. Unfortunately I find this less impressive. They had moments of course with the pounding Drums In the Deep and the shimmering Morron, but if you're looking for Digging Mudd 2 I'm afraid you'll be disappointed. Ka-Sol is a whole different animal. Having never cared for their brand of forest goa way back with Fairytale, they would have to do a lot to change my opinions. They did not. Come to find out I really like music that doesn't make me want to shut it off. The answer to the Riddles is the same for a crying baby...make it stop. I realize these two projects have hardcore followings. I'm just not part of it as I find it an acquired taste. Part of me likes the atonal melodies and chaos, but another part feels it can be too noisy. That said, Hangman was a wall of sound stomping goa trance. Damn that was wicked good. Terra Tronics 10. Halo This is some of the shiniest and most delicious full-on you'll ever hear. So shiny in fact that you might need sunglasses to hear it. It's dreamy melodic trance that doesn't seem embarrassed to embrace its inner cheese. Comparisons to Astrix are dead on as tracks like Circadians are loaded with glow stick melodies and just begging for a laser light show in a warehouse on the wrong side of the tracks. But I like it. It's my guilty pleasure. Full-on has become a dirty word and rightly so for some time, so uber melodic music like this is bound to draw the ire of some folks. But one thing that can't be derided is Nate's ability to layer so effectively. Sure he has more in common with Paul Van Dyk than Paul McCosh, but each song is brimming with lush atmosphere. It's akin to a football hooligan staring at a beautifully muscled man. They'll tell you they're not gay (yes they are), but they certainly seem to appreciate the effort and dedication to look that way. And that's what I think these tracks are. Finely chiseled Chippendale dancers. Full-on? Yep. Cheesy? Sure. But if you're looking for incredibly muscled men gyrating to layers of melody then step right up. Beatspace Psyshop Mdk

X-Tension Aquarius - Welcome To Mars Typical German reaction, take something fun and wild and make it decidedly unfun. So clinical and by the numbers. Worst. Sleepover. Ever. In a world where old school masters of goa trance are engaged in title fights this compilation is the undercard. In Paris. Paris, Texas. Yep the local venue that is the weekend home of the flea market and swap meet every other Thursday for one night only brings you second (third?) tier goa from such acts as Prophets of Psycho, Mos Fet, and Liquid Lunar. I'm sorry, who? Why not put the guy that sang Chocolate Rain on there? The always scorching best track Messiah ever made Hypnosis starts things off, but after that it's slim pickings. Looking at the tracklist if this was closing time at your favorite watering hole I'd be afraid when they turned the lights on if I were you. And that's why you don't judge a book by its cover you bunch a racists. True some tracks aren't as polished as they could be (function of the time and technology), but don't let that stop you from exploring the depth of psychedelia here. There are numerous blazing old school goa trance tracks to be found. Supersonic Wind is hypnotic when the female vocal comes in and Jericho shrieks with piercing leads. Phonetik with it's goose like wail belies its aggressive nature. But Space Flipper combines the gentle whalesong with a snappy 303 and ride it to goa glory. Recommended. Mdk

Ten years along and unfortunately it doesn't pack quite the same punch when I first heard it. Things change in a decade. A decade ago I smoked weed. Now? Now I refill sippy cups. So let's see...bass lines? Pure full-on. Melodies? Good in places, but during others it's like brushing your teeth with a cheese stick. Home loves the samples and they are everywhere. I love a good Samuel L. Jackson declaration as much as the next guy, but when I say these are everywhere I'm not kidding. It brings the power frequently, but doesn't all full-on? Some tracks have sweet breaks and good transitions, but my self conscious informs me that I've outgrown this Israeli full-on. But I know what you're thinking... This review needs more boobs. I'm with you dawg. I'm with you. Only thing is thanks to Susan in accounting HR has let me know that I'm on a bit of a short leash. One joke about a midget, a vat of mayonnaise, and a soccer mom and now I'm the bad guy? Whatever. This was DAT Records second release and all Draeke has become is the Suntrip of the old school. Crop Circles, BPC, Etnica...all wonderful additions for any goa collector. And let's face it this one is a history lesson as sure as if it was taught in a classroom. Trance tracks that laid the foundation for Blue Planet and probably inspired many others. Some of the tracks come off as simple sounding and repetitive, but realize that some of this stuff is two decades old. Probably older than some of the posters here. The sound is delectable to the ears and to get the unreleased and remastered tracks from this iconic project for such an inexpensive price is a real no brainer. People that were in the scene from jump will love these melodic trance gems and for those of us who were late to the party it's a chance to enjoy the quality of their earlier work. Obviously there were those who were hoping for a 2CD collection of goa stormers (always a good thing), but one...that was never promised or marketed and two, sometimes those tracks don't exist. No matter how hard you wish for them. I for one am grateful for what was assembled. This project had a knack for creating hypnotizing deep trance melodies and merging it with twirling goa style. DAT Records has really become an essential part of this scene and I will continue to support them. This thread reminds me of a joke. And we sat there and water flowed over us and it was beautiful, beautiful. The sun was glistening off our beautiful young bodies and we climbed up out of the water and found that we were all...covered...with...leeches!" I love being a goa trance fan these days. There is so much variety and different styles from which to choose. One trend that labels like DAT Records, Zion 604, and Anjuna have honed in on is our seemingly insatiable desire for unreleased old school goa. Apparently the artists of the golden days knew this time would come so they held on to their DAT tapes of tracks that previously never saw the light of day. Anjuna is a label that is really going balls out with their releases including limited edition inverted CDs as well as T-shirts. Tribal Encore (their debut compilation) was a success releasing tracks you wouldn't hear from other labels. I didn't like all of them, but Anjuna realizes that all of the tracks are part of the rich history of goa, and pleasing everyone all the time is an impossibility. I've had discussions with them and they are more concerned with keeping that history and old school spirit alive than in turning a profit. Once again their latest compilation contains tracks that were either previously unreleased or only found on vinyl. Taiyo (Process Imperfect Simulant Remix)- The original track can be found on Cyclone and the Chakra Remix can be found on Geomantik. I like this one the best. It sound s more organic with beeps and squeals above the deep bass. X-Files (Visitors Remix)- Yeah...no. This is some thumping psy with tribal screams and I don't care for it. Whatever, I didn't like the original version either. That said as a remix it's a win because it is so dramatically different than said original. Sun Invaders [Full Moon Mix]- Syb Unity Nettwerk (Kris Kylven) doesn't make bad tracks and this is no exception. Constantly evolving this is pretty good. Distorted Waves Of OM (Slight Return)- Nervasystem and Aether deliver one of the tracks of the compilation. It squelches and squeals coalescing it's layers into quite the stomper. Lot's of folks are excited about Anjuna's next release which is some unreleased Nervasystem. Me being one of them. Awesome track and you gotta wonder how this puppy never saw the light of day. Inordinately Haggard (Live)- Psychedelic goa to the core! Browling like a lion and bubbling like a vat of steaming acid this track shrieks to anyone who'll listen. Sometimes sharp sometimes laid back it's a definite highlight. Full Potential- Another track that never made it to primetime or anytime actually. Lots of alien noises and dark psychedelia especially near the end. Spaced In- Graham Wood (Half of the Infinity Project) up next with another unreleased gem. It gurgles and bounces with head nodding goodness. Nothing too intricate, but when you layer all that bubbling it makes twirling much easier. Varstar- If Distorted Waves was number one than this is 1A. Darkness has a name and it's Varstar. Feel that low bass deep in your physical center as sinister vibes bursting with evil froth over. God it's so clear and lush I feel as though I could squeeze it through my fingers! Master Of The Universe (Epic Live Re-Mix Live with Front 242)- And now the one that got mouths salivating. Already one of the greatest goa tracks in history, but now with more Front 242! It's live so you can hear the crowd cheering which I like. Always gives a boost of energy. I don't know what part Front 242 played in this tale, but I don't hear additional vocals until near the end. It sounds slightly different with a more symphonic quality. This second release from Anjuna is two scoops of win. Rare and unreleased old school goa trance will always be welcomed as far as I'm concerned. Like the debut compilation I didn't fall in love with all the tracks, but I respected them. And please, remixes that don't sound just like a clone of the original? Where do I sign up? The sound quality is rich like chocolate cake thanks to Mr. Tim Schuldt. That guy is boss. Highly recommended for all your psychedelic goa trance needs. Congratulations Anjuna! Bandcamp Mdk

This is such a superb album. Futuristic shreds of melancholy ideally suited for gazing from atop a massive glacier. I am transported on surfboards of imagination above the sea of civilization. It's just an album that lends itself to dreaming. Mdk

Track after track of Tales of Heads goodness. And that hadn't even been invented yet. The music is every bit as psychedelic as that cover with constantly undulating whip like leads. It's a multi-layered live wire that will get asses out of chairs. Full-on? I suppose. But in the same way that Yugo and a Porsche are still cars. "Fast and Furious 8...Slow down and smell the azaleas." Too soon? But because it meant so much to so many. The music isn't important. I don't ever have to hear it again. It's the message. The message is the take away and it's one that applies to anyone who has challenges in their life's journey to overcome. So basically everyone. Like he said, "from the fires of tragedy growth begins." Music means a lot to everyone and by revealing his story perhaps this may lead to others finding strength when attempting to conquer their own demons. I know this. After hearing this, I hug my kids a little tighter. Kiss my wife with more passion. And enjoy more of what this life has to offer with the wide eyed amazement of child.
