Artist: Schlang Title: Little Information Deposits EP Label: Ektoplazm Date: March, 2014 01 - Gangster Computer God (75/150) 02 - Philip K. Dick Stuff (128) 03 - Plus Or Minus (67.5/135) 04 - OneHundreds (80/160) What is the fascination with project names that sound like a man's junk? Schlang is one vowel away from being known as the private parts of a man. And to title your EP Little Information Deposits suggest that you and your tiny junk have a leaking problem. Maybe Schlang is German for Itchy Weiner. Meh, maybe it's only my juvenile mind. I say itchy cause this sh*t is glitchy with heavily manipulated samples. There are elements of techno, electro, and dub all over break beats. Some of it is well done, but there are a LOT of samples. Too many I would say and the long tracks can make the listener weary. Frequent changes can be good, but there wasn't any phrase or part in any of the tracks which I could grab on to. And if you don't grab me right away then I'll be happy to introduce you to one of my closest friends. "Hi there, have you had the pleasure of meeting my dear friend the delete button?" There it is. From the horses mouth. Spoken softly and gently like a true pedophile. Oh come on, surely I'm not the only one with eyes wide open? We've been over this. Please, Willy Wonka is the poster boy for deranged kid touchers. Soft spoken (when things are under his control), plying children with candy, and inviting them to his magical home full of fantasy creatures and toys? People, this sh*t writes itself. But on to the reason why you're here. This compilation generated some varying opinions didn't it? The thread is full of love, hate, and too much broken English for my tastes. Like the rumbling earth under a great metropolis there was a shift in the music. Things were happening and change was upon us. Goa was no longer this compilation's true destination. Sure it said goa on the cover and there were sounds that made me think of goa, but gone were the Indian scales and layers of melody only to be replaced by boring bass lines and minimal compositions. Well, not totally. Sillenium by Jaia and Reflux by Hux Flux were outstanding. Where is the S is a dark journey by the Mushrooms back when they cared how their music sounded. Normally I'm bored to tears with the minimalistic approach by any Tarsis track, but Into the Static was a moody and enjoyable experience. And of course Retox and Mars Needs Women were great. But how anyone cannot be embarrassed listening to The Growly Family is beyond me. Yes. There should be embarrassment. Not bad, some really good stuff here, but I think this may have been the beginning of the death spiral. Nothing to be ashamed of though...they had a good run.

Artist: Various Title: Future Architecture 2 Label: Neogoa / UAF Date: February, 2014 01 - GoaTree - Human Apocalypto (80/106 BPM) 02 - Crossing Mind - Virtual Mind Cleaner (139 BPM) 03 - Aerosis - Cape Quetzal (138 BPM) 04 - Celestial Intelligence - Light After Darkness (143 BPM) 05 - Adrenalin Run - Spoiled Brats (Premature Incubation Mix) (145 BPM) 06 - Dreamweaver - Penta (145 BPM) 07 - Cosmic Dimension - Alien Civilization (142 BPM) 08 - Trinodia - Psychedelic Sun (137 BPM) 09 - Magic Science & Imba - Ghost Town (144 BPM) 10 - Omnivox - Inner Polarity (2014 Rework) (147 BPM) "And thus their undying love was made ever stronger by their continued collaboration..." So happy together...You guys are like peas and carrots. Peanut butter and chocolate. The match made in heaven continues to bear fruit (I'll let your brain juggle that image) with the second installment of Future Architecture. Neogoa (Ivan Richpa) and Underground Alien Factory (Nikola Petrovic) have cemented their place in the goa trance Parthenon with many quality digital releases and cover art to boot. Did I mention that they do all this without sticking their hand in your pocket. That costs extra buddy. Human Apocalypto- "If the population goes up to the point where we destroy the resources of the earth, it doesn't matter which nation is most populous...we all get it in the neck." Cmon...you know India gonna take a big hit. This track begins as a slow tribalistic warning with chants and the ominous sample and grows into a tense blockbuster soundtrack. Welcome to the show. At first I didn't like it now I'm captivated by it. It's beautiful. Virtual Mind Cleaner- Stephan has vaulted to the top of the goa pyramid with his distinct sound. Metallic yet warm it bubbles with tendrils that leave colorful trails in their wake. Constantly changing it never misses a beat. Yeah hit me again with that. There's still some midget fetish porn back in the corner you missed. Clean it! Cape Quetzal- Holy f*ck an Aerosis sighting! Welcome back man you have been missed. So much has happened since you've been gone. Lessee...we got Bin Laden, Obama got re-elected, gay people are getting married, Putin still shirtless, Paula Deen hates Negroes...oh just so much. Now this is a danceable piece of smoothness. Shiny and warm it bubbles towards that unreachable horizon with nice layering. Love de bass line mon. You've still got it. Light After Darkness- I think this is one of their strongest tracks to date. It's organic and alive as it changes shape thrusting warm rays of sunshine into the receding night. Great work! Spoiled Brats- The first release of M-run + Stiven and oh boy it's a doozy. Loads of groove that has epic pads, power and leads that make it fun to dance to. Love this track. Penta- Dis guy? Look I know next to nothing about Penta, but if he's making a goa track I'll give him a...what's that now? Oh. Penta is the title. Well, that uh...makes a little more sense doesn't it? Like my redneck neighbor says this is a moody sumbitch. Dark and not bad. Alien Civilization- "And then the question why don't they land here? Maybe it's because we're simply not that interesting." Bingo. And holy photoshop! I am convinced this was his inspiration. Only an alien race could imagine a scenario where having your pudding pounded on camera by a D-list celebrity would lead to fame and riches. His album In A Special Kind of Place wins the award for my most delayed review. Something always seems to come up. This track continues with his style of outerspace goa with glittery melodies and lush breaks. Psychedelic Sun- Mr. Astral Clouds is at it again with a track that resembles the M-run groove. Head nodding goodness that continually churns. This guy can be counted on. Ghost Town- Imagine little Teresa's surprise during lunch when, amongst all her friends, instead of pulling out a ham sandwich she grabs hold of mommy's little friend during those long, cold, winter nights. "Omigosh! I can't eat that!" Actually you can...well, you can pretend to. A thumping track with a backpack full of sounds. It gets real growly near the end. Needed a little more variety to put it over the top, but still a scorcher. Inner Polarity (2014 Rework)- Talk about closing with a double barreled blast! Full power all the way with a massive bottom end and a vigorous pace. This will leave a hole in your wall about yay big. "Yeah I saw him. Big fat guy. He was leaking this red liquid all over the place. Kept screaming Oh Yeah! all the way down the street." What a fantastic album. These two stalwarts have done it again. Highly recommended! Artist: Skizologic Title: ReMind EP Label: Zion 604 Date: March, 2014 1. Infinity 2. Funky Virus 3. Kali Power 4. Boundless (Skizologic Remix) - Prana 5. MS Blast (2014 Edit) 6. MS Blast (Shakta Remix) 1903. Is this what Europe still uses to deliver the f*cking mail? I realize I have taken up residence in the colonies, but a minimum of two weeks to get a CD? Why not just tie it to a pigeon and throw it in my general direction? One of the many reasons I love Zion 604. Me buy CD me get instant high quality download. And when the stagecoach does finally pull to the front of my house with the CD I don't even have to open it. Zion has ripped it for me. It's like fast food without the guilt or the self hate after I just polished off a double Whopper with large fries and drink. King me! This is Maor Hasbani who compiled a previous Zion 604 release called The Kingdom. It sounds a lot like Braincell if he was infatuated with goa trance. Mastered by Mr. Eat Static Merv Perpler it sounds glorious and punchy with a rich bottom end that doesn't sacrifice the mids or the highs. Crystal clear. The tracks are comprised of strong bass lines you can feel in your chest. The grooves are twisted and the leads are gritty. Melodies? Yeah, but not the twirling, layered type. He doesn't seem interested in carrying you to Nirvana, he wants to throw you there with a catapult. Maybe a cannon is involved, but he brings the power along with squelching 303's on a track like Kali Power. It's chunky and organic with good use of percussive sounds. Very psychedelic. There's even a Shakta remix for lovers of the old school days. Before I rated the tracks I kept listening to it over and over to see if I got tired of it. One drawback may be that it sounds too similar, but with only 6 tracks and the absolute great sound it held up. There were periods where I wasn't that blown away, but then he would launch into some distinctly goa riffs that thrust me back into things. I find it a good mix of goa and psytrance that maintains its psychedelic vibe. On top of it all the digipak comes with a mix he did with Shidapu. At least that's what Bandcamp says, since I haven't had to open my copy. Recommended. Bandcamp Mdk

Artist: Symbiote Title: Symbiote EP Label: DAT Records Date: April, 2014 1. Phantasmagoria 2. Tiara 3. Abstraktd Draeke (Federico if you're nasty) is the head of DAT Records and has played an integral role in today's goa trance most notably in making the old new again. The results have been nothing more than spectacular with releases from old school masters like Blue Planet Corporation, Crop Circles, and the massive Etnica double CD. He's like the six million dollar man making old music better. Stronger. More awesome. Every conversation I've ever had with him has been polite and enjoyable. He seems to really enjoy what he does and is probably having the time of his life. If I lived in Europe and didn't have these anchors known as children perhaps we'd travel the highways together in a van solving mysteries. We would make money by him playing festivals and I of course would play robin hood, taking advantage of the burgeoning organ black market by swiping kidneys from criminals and rich a**holes to give to poor orphans. Ah, but that's a story for another time. Symbiote is Samuel Cote from Quebec in the state north of my country that doesn't realize it's only a matter of time before it becomes assimilated into the borg. Originally made in 97 (I smell classic) Draeke gave it the DAT treatment and voila we have another EP in the arsenal. And another withdrawl from my bank account. So did he strike gold again and become the 50 ft tall jewel encrusted golden giant? Well, yes and no. Phantasmagoria is everything you could hope for. Ridiculous layers, absurd length fostering the creation of said layers, and the whole thing crackles with an intense energy that sears everything it touches. It's insanely driving music that I have never heard before. It reminds me of this one off track. Delicious! Tiara is even longer, but lacks the intensity of the first track. It's veeeeery repetitive and has more in common with dream trance than goa. Nowhere near as interesting. Which brings me to Abstraktd. The final track that drones on for almost 15 minutes at a slower speed increasing in volume to an almost abrasive level. My least favorite here. So for me this wasn't up the usual DAT standards. But hey Michael Jordan never met a shot he didn't like, but that didn't stop him from taking them. And we all know how that turned out. I don't know if he is still making music, but it would be interesting to hear what he could do with improved technology. Even though I didn't care for this EP, Phantasmagoria is a track that you should hear. Nay...a track that you must hear. DAT Records Psyshop Beatspace Mdk

Good gravy I found a whole bunch more. I sure was a prolific somebody back then. And a lot of these reviews had waaaaay too many pics and gifs. Why didn't you guys stop me? I had to update lots of them and use different pics that were a whole lot more relevant. So I encourage you to seek out my new improved shiny reviews. Mdk

Hey everybody! Did you have a good Easter? Do anything fun lately? I hope so. Because I haven't had much fun. Nothing serious mind you, but I noticed that a lot of the reviews I posted have that annoying "posted image" thing on them. Nothing worse than trying to understand a joke and missing a huge piece of the puzzle. I haven't posted in a while so that I could go through and fix them. All of them. It was a pain in the ass, but since it was solely my fault I felt it had to be done. I'm sorry I haven't posted any reviews lately, but that is going to change. I have about 40 ready to go and will begin putting them up soon. If you find any reviews that have images missing please let me know. Send me a pm. Foul language is fine. It let's me know you care. I've always been quick to pile on with the criticism of CS (and with good reason), but this is very nice. Far from perfect or a classic in my opinion, but it is floaty and hypnotic. Even though it sounds dated, it is still an enjoyable listen. Easily the best album they've released. Mdk

Artist: Various Title: Prana Remix EP Vol. 1 Label: Wakyo Records Date: December, 2013 1. Boundless (2013 Re-Edit) - Prana 2. Mugen (Astral Projection Remix) - Prana 3. Geomantik (Damir Ludvig Remix) -Prana You sons of bitches how the f*ck do you sleep at night? "On a mattress stuffed with dead presidents as I'm fellated by multiple porn stars." You...bastard. I meant metaphorically. Wakyo Records has released a three track EP of some classic Prana Tracks. You know cause everything old is new again and there's money to be made and we have to have constant proof that Astral Projection did not die in an erotic asphyxiation session gone wrong. The updated Boundless is juicy and crackles with electricity. It's good, but I didn't have a problem with the original. So it's like an answer to a question nobody asked. Well I didn't ask it. Mugen was one that was in dire need of a redo. But alas it became Astralized, homogenized, and sterilized, devoid of any passion or power. Their remix is better, but is it possible to go back in a time machine and have 1996 Astral give it a look-sie? Which brings me to the track that would clear out a pool as surely as if it took a massive dump in the shallow end. A house version? Why not just put it on in an elevator? Who did they think this lifeless wet noodle of a track would appeal to? The best thing that can be said about this track is that it bears zero resemblance to the original. How could you. I'm only linking to it for the purpose of saving the evidence. By the way great cover art. Thanks for putting in some overtime on that. Beatport Mdk

Artist: Orca Title: Redefined Label: Fractal Records Date: November, 2013 1. Sweet Oblivion 2. Reduced To Dust 3. Other Mind 4. You Know 5. Magical Concoction 6. Sad Movies 2.0 7. Physical World 8. Humen Consciousness 9. Goash "Oh my God, the end is near!" The end of Orca maybe. Probably. Almost certainly actually. What the f*ck happened to you? This has to be the clearest case of alien abduction on record. It's the only explanation. The only thing redefined here is the direction of your music. From a guy who was once responsible for the psychedelic and hard hitting Fists of Fury you now make music that appeals to the lowest common denominator. Tired sounds, buildups, and unimaginative drivel. This is full-on that dumbs down psytrance. I'm still shaking my head...you couldn't intentionally make something this bad. Could you? Look I get it. While fiercely loyal the psychedelic crowd is a finicky bunch. Many a critically acclained artist will tell you as great as it is to have created something significant they would also really love to eat something more substantial than baloney sandwiches. The money is in the commercial music and it's probably nice to have money for gas. But I gotta tell you from a fan's perspective this is unlistenable. And Fractal Records...I expect way better from you. Sad albums make me cry. And this one is a Kleenex 4 boxer. One of the worst albums I've heard. Ever. Beatport Mdk

Dissonant sounds and dark journeys through a magic laden forest. That's the dream isn't it? Let's see what have we got here...Ka-Sol, yeah that track sounds like they handed in a rough draft, Gate is dreary wailing, but the Goch offering does it right. Dark and frightful it seems to strike the right balance between being terrifying and just putting a gun in your mouth. The cat in the blender style of Deep Inside shows the outright contempt for the swift justice of PETA, and Buddhas devolved into an evil trance like state brimming with tortuous screams of agony. Otherwise known as a drive through Harlem after midnight. The Grobians (Google wanted to call them the Fabiens, just sayin') is a bubbly pool of monotony. But at least nobody died during it. Actually I cannot prove that. Probably nobody died. Xmas Shoe Eater is my favorite due to its title of course, but also its funky swing and chuckling goblins. Liked Mind Warping Spirits also, some wicked fun. Lastly with the f*cking shocker of the week is some downtempo enter the dragon sh*t with Bruced Lead which would seem more appropriate on a Kaaya Project album than a forest compilation. Taken as a whole it sounds like someone spiraling into a wicked depression. This could be the soundtrack that a disturbed individual would use when he fantasizes about mowing down soccer moms in the produce department of Food Lion. If you have the slightest mental issue or irregularity please give this a wide berth. That said there is creativity here. And that's why I continue to listen to the forest and the dark stuff in the hope that an artist nails it and creates something mindblowing. Without making me want to eliminate the 10th grade of the local high school. Free at Ektoplazm Mdk

Artist: Talpa Title: Emo Robot Label: Tesseract Studio Date: February, 2014 1. Emo Robot 2. Going Home ""Yesterday morning I woke up on the streets with a lollipop in my anus." See what you did you've confused Jackie Chan. Now he might try and make another movie. I think Goran is confused also. I do. This is what happens when you use aliases, you have to keep in character. Talpa = groundbreaking Art of Non psytrance. Riddler = funky yet eerie but wiggling progressive music. Same guy just different facets. This is a Talpa release. But it sounds like the Riddler. Aside from me trying to shoehorn him into boxes he himself created this is an interesting release. Emo Robot is the equivalent of a homosexual slap fight where juvenile robot voices trade barbs. But the electric effect is so throaty and funky I can't stop listening to it. Throw in that piano riff and disco hit and it sounds just like The Riddler. Going Home also has the eerie child-like melody characteristic of the Riddler, but there is also a Joe Satriani-esque guitar solo that I cannot stand. He won't you know. He won't stand for baloney! I don't know what Goran is doing these days. Expect the unexpected I suppose. Beatport Mdk

Bouncy breakbeats and plenty of bass sounds with melodies that give it a sense of grandeur. There are glitchy tendencies of course, but it's not just noise. Computer sounds are melded creatively with melody and the whole thing is rather juicy. Sometimes I think it can lose it's way, but definitely worth a listen. Free at Ektoplazm Mdk

You couldn't ask for a bigger kiss of death if you had a make out session under the bleachers with the grim reaper before 6th period history. How did that work out for you technician from Total Recall? Chis Hoy is a very important figure in psytrance as far as I'm concerned. When things were quiet he did it harder and louder. His first album provided an inkling as to where he was taking this music. It's a loud and abrasive look into a futuristic world. Full of mechanical scrapings and deep rumbling bass lines and loads of sci-fi samples. Infrared with its funky rhythmic sway and acid explosion is especially sweet. He hadn't put it all together just yet as it sounds fairly samey, but he was on his way. Timecode Bandcamp Mdk

Artist: Hypnoxock Title: Rewritten By Shiva Label: Goa-Trance.com Date: February, 2014 1. On The Eve of the Revolt 2. No Time To Cry 3. Double Zero *stares intently. Sits back in chair and exhales deeply. Tilts head in concentration* Hypno... Hypnosh... Hypnozo... *shoves books off table angrily* F*ck! I can't do it. All I see is cock! F*cking cock! It's like some flamboyant Rorschach test! This duo from Spain is well accomplished. Their album Synthetic Resurrection was terrific and they're not shy about releasing free stuff over at Ektoplazm. With a short three track ep they open our ears to their goa sound. On the Eve of the Revolt is a delicious short intro that ripples with mystery. My only complaint was that it was too short. Homies bringing the downtempo like Ra. Not Time To Cry is your typically good goa track which goes into overdrive with the help of a well placed Leonidas sample. Double Zero is the same, but the break is absolutely fantastic. Some rich storytelling right here. Feel it. Still impressed with these guys. Their productions are always warm and vibrant. They breathe life into their music even if I can't pronounce their name. Welcome to the fray my friends. Beatport Mdk

Holy sh*t enough already! The repeated sample usage from Olli is well documented and with hindsight an intervention would've gone a long way. I can't even make the stop me if you've heard this one before joke because well...you've heard this one before. Olli has been around for a long time, but like a lot of students there are some subjects which elude him. Goa trance unfortunately is his. Whether it was because he wanted to be different, didn't apply himself, or was ridiculously high he floated in that trance purgatory somewhere between psy and goa where his music had elements of both, but he wasn't really that good at either of them. I consider him a late bloomer where he found his stride when he began to create the night time full-on sound. So aside from the samples the tracks are so long. 5 minutes into the 2nd track felt like 20. I'd swear it's two minutes of music and then looped for the other 7. There are good parts in tracks, but they are overshadowed by the larger more tedious moments. Of course it's not true for all of the tracks. If the master files for 54 Bass Drums were lost in a fire I don't think we fly the flag at half mast. One thing all the tracks have in common is repetition. Repetition in every aspect. Samples, structure...you name it. This album doesn't go at the top of Olli's resume. To me, it sounds like the music fell asleep at the wheel and then plowed into a farmers market. Then we're all standing around wondering how this could've happened and should seniors get their license taken away. But ah, you...you don't mind if I scoop up a few bags of those Honeycrisp apples do ya? Mdk

Let's go to defcon 4...we've got a Nic Cage confusion alert! This is happening people! Olli. No really, Olli...I know this was made 14 years ago, so what's done is done. Water under the bridge. But Nicholas Cage is confused. You see he's had some experience with what you did. You might have noticed that he's been making the same movie for a couple decades and right now he's wondering how could you not know you made the same album 4 years in a row? Long, subpar goa tracks with samples that are still kicking a dead horse. Sure there were good parts in most of the tracks, but the amount of filler material is staggering. The Ultraviolet Catastrophe, The Future's Right Now, 2000 O.D. The Pope album is no different. Who am I kidding, he ain't listening to this. I'm sure he's more concerned with making the world look ridiculous with his garish clothing line.

Hypnotic chasing the almighty dollar. That ruined what could've been the most potent 1-2 punch in goa trance. The only thing missing is an awesome cover. Mdk

Know how I know? For starters, there are 6 tracks and the size is 66.6MB. "I am evil Homer! I am evil Homer!" Whattya need a f*cking roadmap? That's some evil sh*t. You know that's what he was going for it's not a f*cking accident. Do you know how hard it is to make a file size come out to that exact amount? Second, look at the bpms. Barely average a c*nt hair above 70. Waiting for the last bit of ketchup to tumble out of the bottle clocks in at 80. The producer is from the Midwest and it's a known fact that the portal to hell is around there some where. And then there's Charlie Sheen. Yeah he's on here. And he's "winning." There are quicksand slow beats with underworld bubbling. Dubby basses and satanically manipulated samples. Even the track titles are dark. It's not for me, but I can appreciate the effort and attention to detail. This isn't just some cut and paste sh*t. Free at Ektoplazm Mdk

Artist: Various Title: Memories From Goa Madness Label: Goa Madness Records Date: November, 2013 1. Into The Vast Dark Ocean EPHEDRA AND OMNIVOX 2. Overdose RADICAL DISTORTION 3. Initially ASMIK 4. Pray For Mars MERR0W 5. Light Up The Sky OMNIVOX 6. Ancient Aliens RADICAL DISTORTION 7. Trip Through The Heart Of The Galaxy EPHEDRA 8. Psychoactive LIQUID FLOW 9. Jurassic Attack AGNETON *Sitting on toilet typing review on phone* Dude, what si...si... "D-E! D-E!! Motherf*cker why won't you type D-E!?!" Great so now I can't finish my review while I'm on the hopper. I'm trying to multitask but wordpad on the Samsung is making that a tad difficult. Hit the fan. Oh aliendna99 didn't your mother ever teach you if you don't have anything nice to say, say it with gifs? See? See...it's not so fun to wear the cone of shame is it? But why so abrubtly negative? Was your jacket covered in minus signs still at the dry cleaners? I'm poking fun and he is entitled to his opinion as we all are. One thing we share is a love of goa trance so I figure the more labels that decide to release it the greater chance for variety. And we all win when that happens right? I've ripped Goalogique for their first two compilations as I felt they were subpar so I suppose that he's doing the same thing (although from his post it seems he did it from solely samples and we know how that can go), but I won't deny that label my support. This business is too hard. Now to be fair he's not calling them out because Goa Madness Records is a new label, but because he feels the music is just homogenous new school same old same old stuff. And to a certain degree he's correct. "Dude, what side are you on?" Both. None. Wigro I'm Switzerland. But I agree with his complaint kinda. If you're one of those who believe that goa trance these days sounds like it's churned out like processed food (it's not) then you probably won't have many positive things to say about this release. It certainly isn't going to rewrite the "formula" for goa trance production. But you know what not many do. The compilation opens with an absolute ripping track by Ephedra and Omnivox. Pure class. I really enjoyed Ageneton's high energy track and Psychoactive is one of the best tracks ever to come from Liquid Flow in my opinion. And the Merr0w and Radical Distortion tracks? Thick melodies and piercing leads that lend themselves to maximum twirling. The only one I wasn't thrilled with was the Asmik track. The key change didn't sit well with me and at almost 9 minutes it felt twice that. Still not bad at all for their very first track. If you're looking for goa trance this compilation is quite good. Leads scream with bite and it's very danceable. The sound quality is also fantastic. Wait a minute...what was the problem again? Well worth my money and a great debut compilation. Great job Goa Madness crew! Psyshop Beatspace Mdk
